Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Hello, Fortunate Girl. Thank you for your work on Pompeo Leoni. Ingratis, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi, Fortunate Girl. Thanks for creating this interesting article. I have marked it as reviewed. Thanks in particular for taking the trouble to attribute it as a translation from another Wiki - not everybody bothers to do this but it is important. Best wishes, Ingratis (talk) 05:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Codex Windsor moved to draftspace[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Codex Windsor. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:53, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Fortunate Girl. Thank you for your work on Merlerault. Klbrain, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Just a few things to note when creating pages: avoid WP:PUFFERY, punctuation goes before references, and you can use template rather than copying to the navbox to the page - this means that the navbox content will change over time as the template is updated.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Your recent article submission has been rejected and cannot be resubmitted. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by Chaotic Enby was: This submission is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: This is an essay mostly based on primary sources and, to be blunt, uncritically repeating Nazi ideology. The "historians" being quoted like Fritz Schachermeyr were Nazis publishing their "theories" in the 1930s and 1940s. There is no secondary analysis, and this is, very clearly, not an encyclopedia article.

I do not think this can be improved into an article without, like Germany in 1945, rebuilding the whole thing from scratch.

Use of translated_page template on Draft talk pages[edit]

Hi Fortunate Girl, and thanks for your translations. I noticed a couple of them, Draft:Equine sector in Germany and Draft:Crisis of July 1917. I just wanted to thank you for adding the {{translated page}} template on the Talk page, and to let you know that this template should be placed with other banners (if any) at the top of the page, and without any section header or signature. I have edited Draft talk:Equine sector in Germany and Draft talk:Crisis of July 1917 to move the {{translated page}} template to the top, dropping the section header and your signature, so you can see what I mean.

Going forward, please continue adding the {{translated page}} template as you have been, but without section header or signature, as shown in those two examples. If you have other articles in Draft space that use the {{translated page}} template embedded in a section, can you please move the template to the end of the header banners, and remove the section header and signature if there is nothing else in that section? This is not an urgent task, and it isn't a serious problem, but it's about following our conventional style, so if you could take care of it, it would be an improvement. Adding 7804j.

By the way, I do translations also (not via OKA), mostly from French, sometimes from German or Catalan or other languages, so if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks again for you contributions to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 00:52, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Racnela21 Can you add this advice to our instructions too (since you're working on wikifying them)? Probably worth also sharing in our chat since I've seen several other translators add their signature in the talk page today 7804j (talk) 05:51, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll add it and talk to them Racnela21 (talk) 11:24, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunate Girl, I noticed your recent translation/creation of Draft:CBGB's and the Birth of U.S. Punk, along with the addition of the {{translated page}} template on the new Talk page, Draft talk:CBGB's and the Birth of U.S. Punk, with the correct appearance (no section header, no signature), so thanks very much for noticing, and following up. One tiny issue: the {{translated page}} template goes *after* all the Wikiproject banners, including the OKA banner, so, it would go under the {{OKA}} banner, not above it. This is really a minor point, and is no big deal, just something to keep in mind for next time. Thanks again for your translations. Also, no section header above the banners; and the Talk page shouldn't have a section header at all, until you or some other editor starts a conversation on the Talk page about something.
As long as I'm here: Wikipedia titles are in sentence case, not title case, so it should be: "CBGB's and the birth of U.S. punk" (no capital B or P). If you know how to move a page, feel free, otherwise don't worry, an Afc reviewer will fix it if and when it is approved. Mathglot (talk) 06:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
