Community Portal/Bulletin board

[edit]

hi there! i noticed you wanted to add Wikiproject Extreme Sports to the bulletin board [1]. If you look closely at the wikicode, there is a little formal process for proposing such a thing; really it is just for format and timing sake. Next time please be aware that you should make it look like the other entries and add a pull date. I've fixed it for you, so don't worry about this time. :) JoeSmack Talk(p-review!) 16:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portals and so forth

[edit]

Hi Bwyard and welcome to Wikipedia!

Portals, userpages and images are kinda secondary to our main purpose here. You'll be better off throwing yourself into an existing portal and editing articles (our main purpose), making either "wikignome" edits (little but valuable edits) or expanding articles (take a bad article and make it better).

If you'd like an unwanted tip from me, click the "Random article" link on the left of your screen (a coupla times if needed!) until you find an article that needs love and attention. Give that article some love and attention. Do the same again a few times, then Esperanza is likely to pitch up here and thank you for your work - they do that type of thing - and invite you to join them. They have lots of people who can help with your userpage etc. Most of Wikipedia's best users have developed a user page after they've started serious editing.

If the random article thing doesn't help, go to User:SuggestBot and add your name where the bot suggests. After a little bit of time, she'll get back to you and you'll have a list of articles she thinks (she's a robot, she doesn't "think" as such, but still... :) you might like.

I'm going to drop you a welcome message below. We try to send these to everyone when they first get involved, but you might have been missed (sorry!). The links in it are a hard read, but well worth it!

Give me a shout if I can help again. ЯEDVERS

Welcome to to wikiproject mathematics. I put your name in the correct place in the list. You may like to add some details on your interests and a bit of background about yourself. You may also like to add WT:WPM to your watch list. Thats the place where the mathematical community hang out. --Salix alba (talk) 17:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

email address

[edit]

Hi, noticed you had your email address on your user page. This is probably not a good idea as lots of email spammers will find it. Rather than have an email address you can go to your preferences and register an email address there. Once you've done this there will be a link in the toolbox on the left of the screen with a link to click to send an email. --Salix alba (talk) 17:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

THE WIKIPEDA IRC SPAM PROJECT IS RECRUITING NOW

WHY ME
Your recent request to use VandalProof software has been refused as you have too few edits to the English Wikipedia.
We need editors to look through recently edited pages and decide whether the links are spam or not.
If the link qualifies as spam, you will need to revert the page to remove the link and warn the 'spammer'.
This will increase your edit count and allow the VandalProof team to approve you in future !
In fact, the Wikipedia IRC Spam Project shares many VandalProof administrators and users.
HOW TO JOIN

  • 1. Install an IRC client.
(ChatZilla, IceChat and X-Chat are free. X-Chat works on all platforms) - a full list is available here.
  • 2. Visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam
This channel lists, in real time, all external links added to Wikipedia.
Around 50% of the links listed are suspicious and need to be checked.
We flag especially suspicious links in RED.
  • 3. Begin Checking Links
Click on any diff (the Wikipedia URL) listed in the IRC channel to begin checking and reverting as necessary.
    If you revert, remember to place a spam warning {{subst:spam1}} → {{subst:spam4}}
We need to be able to block persistent spammers just as we do persistent vandals.
  • Remember - If you need help or admin intervention visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam-t

POLICY Before you begin, please read WP:EL and WP:SPAM. These polices are the basis of spam fighting.

Best Wishes - The Wikipedia IRC Spam Project Team

you responded on my talk page with wanting to know how to download mIRC. The link to the download is here. Click on one of the download links (assuming that you are on Microsoft windows), and it will download. Then run the install program once it is on (just double click the .exe). Basically from there it is simple, you join server irc.freenode.org and join channel #wikipedia-spam. Do keep in mind that that client is shareware and you will have to pay $20.00 to use after 30 days. There are free alternatives I can point out if you would like. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 20:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey Bwyard, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks--Cronholm144 18:00, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
