Speedy deletion nomination of Joe Kasper
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Joe Kasper requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://jcusports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/joe-kasper/1153. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Onel5969 TT me 13:16, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from 2022 Stonehill Skyhawks football team into 2023 Stonehill Skyhawks football team. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 15:23, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

For someone who started only two months ago, you've done excellent work in writing articles on Division I football teams and other topics. From my count, it seems all that's left in terms of Division I seasons missing articles for this year is four in FBS and 40 in FCS (out of 261 total teams). Notability of created articles
[edit]Please add more reliable sources to the articles you are creating or make sure there is enough of them before creating. A few tips
[edit]Hi. Thanks for your articles recently on college/NFL players. A few tips:
- In the infobox, if the position is two words, only capitalize the first - for example: Wide receiver, rather than Wide Receiver. And in the article, the position should always be spelled lowercase (for example: John Smith is an American football wide receiver...)
- Dates should be spelled as May 3, not May 3rd.
- Numbers under 10 should be spelled out - say, Beanie Fan caught four passes during the 2022 season, scoring two touchdowns (not Beanie Fan caught 4 pass during the 2022 season, scoring 2 touchdowns)
Otherwise, nice work! BeanieFan11 (talk) 20:40, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- Alright thanks for the help, appreciate. Butters (talk) 21:06, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi, Friend!
[edit]I spotted a number of your player stub articles in the New Pages feed where I was reviewing things. You need to be careful posting up pieces on NFL Undrafted Free Agents unless they are documented with multiple pieces of published writing substantially about the subject since there is no "automatic notability" bestowed upon players who have not made an NFL roster and played a game. It is my belief that sourcing does actually exist for most such players, mind you, but one needs to dig up two or three such sources and make sure they are listed in the article or things are apt to come to grief through the deletion process.
I do not want to discourage you from your efforts, only to suggest "better fewer but better" is probably a strategy worth pursing. All the best, —tim /// Carrite (talk) 11:52, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- P.S. I see above that this is already happening. The best way to protect your work is to source out your work with multiple independently-published references of presumed reliability.

May 2023
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:21, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Butters.From.SouthPark,
- Please do not cut and paste content from one article to a blank page. This create multiple versions of articles which we can't have for attribution purposes. It divides up an article page history. If you disagree with an article being moved to Draft space, then please move it back, do not start a new version in main space. It's preferred that you work on the Draft space version until you are ready to submit it to WP:AFC but if you want to work in main space, then return the article to main space, do not start a new version. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:31, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

[edit]An article you recently created, Thayer Thomas, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:23, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Onel5969: You really need to stop with your non-policy based moves to draftspace – Thomas and Durden most certainly are ready for mainspace. WP:DRAFTIFY says to draftify only if it meets one of the following three:
it does not meet WP:STUB; or it would have very little chance of survival at AfD; or it meets any speedy deletion criterion.
This clearly does not apply in this case. BeanieFan11 (talk) 13:17, 17 May 2023 (UTC)- And in its current condition it meets all of those. Onel5969 TT me 20:39, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

- This should not have been returned to mainspace without improvement. This sort of action can be viewed as disruptive and will often result in the item being proposed for deletion. The post above requests that it be submitted for review, but this has not been done. The item appears to be about a non-notable athlete with little if any, career to speak of; it is still subject to new page patrol and may be an AFD candidate. Eagleash (talk) 13:25, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

- @Eagleash: I agree with Butters here and think this was actually an inappropriate move by Onel5969. The policy on draftification states that it only should be used when the page is "obviously unready for mainspace" and meets one of the following three:
it does not meet WP:STUB; or it would have very little chance of survival at AfD; or it meets any speedy deletion criterion.
– as for criterion one, the article is not a stub, for criterion two, it has a very good chance in my opinion of surviving at AFD, and for three, it absolutely does not meet the speedy deletion criterion. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:32, 19 May 2023 (UTC)- @BeanieFan11: I am uncertain that it could meet WP:SPORTCRIT but as you will have seen, I left the item in article space where it is still subject to NPP. It should not have been returned to main with no improvement or effort to improve and without completing the review process. Eagleash (talk) 16:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Eagleash: Normally I would agree that it could be disruptive to move a draftified article back with no improvements; however in this case (and for a lot of other cases involving Onel5969) the article is in perfectly acceptable shape as-is and never should have been moved to draftspace in the first place - also, for sources to show notability: PFN, SI, HERO Sports, AL.com, Charlotte Observer, Winston-Salem Journal, etc. (I had actually planned on doing his article prior to the draft but didn't find enough time to). MLB Draft picks
[edit]Some of the non-first round draft picks do not need notability standards, I would recommend working on these articles in drafts and not publishing directly to the mainspace until GNG is established (generally I think 4 refs should do it). Over the past couple of years there has been more of an uptick in editors keen on heightening the notability threshold for athletes and nominating them for deletion. I'll try to add some refs to the recent articles created, but there are some draft articles on a few of the second rounders where you can also find them. Best, GPL93 (talk) 13:29, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Creating redirects
[edit]Hi there. I see you've created a number of redirects from minor league baseball player names to their associated team lists, but without adding any content to those lists. This isn't a productive activity, because it will frustrate readers when they find we don't have information about these players. College football players
[edit]Hello Butters.From.SouthPark,
Hope you're doing well. Please do not guess a player's place of birth unless it is explicitly stated in a source. This puts a lot of misinformation on Wikipedia. A player's "hometown" listed in their college bios is very often not the same place they were born. I was born in Arizona but my hometown is 350 miles away. Other people were born in one city but grow up and attend high school in a nearby city.
Please be more careful about this. Sometimes, their college bios will state their place of birth in a "Personal" section near the bottom. For example, Jaydon Grant's Oregon State bio clearly states he was born in Portland, not West Linn. JTtheOG (talk) 02:02, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- P.S. Please double-check your spelling as well. There are multiple typos in the articles you publish. I suggest a free tool like Grammarly to help. Lastly, only capitalize the first word in each section title (College career, not College Career). Happy editing! JTtheOG (talk) 02:02, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

College football players
[edit]Hey Butters,
Just a reminder that the city where a player attends high school is not always where they were raised. Unless you have a source confirming where they grew up, it's better to just state where they attended high school. See the edits I made to Jaylin Williams (American football) as an example. He was born in Mississippi and lived in three other states, even attending two different high schools in two states. Cheers, JTtheOG (talk) 21:25, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

- Um most of those are either routine, short little mentions of him, or in some cases not even directly about Edwards. I mean come on the CBS "sources" are just box scores that mention Edwards a few times.-- Yankees10 01:13, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

College Football Pages
[edit]@BeanieFan11 are the page Daijun Edwards and Terrion Arnold notable Butters (talk) 01:18, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- They both seem somewhat borderline (on the edge of being notable/not) - I don't have a strong opinion right now but make sure to be careful in what articles you create - try to get at least three in-depth articles on the players from good sources (usually a few hundred words total focusing on the player is alright - as for what types of sources, Yankees10 was mostly correct in that newspaper sources like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are good ones; other ones mentioned by Yankees as being less-than-great such as 247Sports and Bleacher Report can contribute slightly I believe, but are not given nearly as much weight in discussions - while its usually ok to have them in the article, they shouldn't be the best sources you've got). About your creation of Shilo Sanders
[edit]Hey Butters.From.SouthPark! I wanted to let you know that you need to do some cleanup after moving drafts to mainspace. Any templates like {{Draft article}}, {{AfC submission}}, and {{Draft categories}} need to be removed to avoid having the page listed in a bunch of maintenance categories. Please also make sure to create the talk page and add associated WikiProjects so the new article can be brought to the attention of other interested editors. Style issues
[edit]Butters.From.SouthPark, I appreciate all your work in recent months on college football articles. There are some recurring style issues that I want to address. As on Brashard Smith, you have a tendency to use the subjective mood ("would") inappropriately. If something happed in the past, just write about it in a normal past tense. The narrative of historical documentaries often uses the subjective mood to draw the viewer into the present moment (e.g. "the Germans would lose the Battle of Stalingrad"), but for our purposes here, that form is clunky and inappropriate; see WP:INTOTHEWOULDS. Second, linking to a college football program and piping to the name of the university, e.g. [[Florida Gators football|University of Florida]]
, is poor, Easter-eggy form; see MOS:EGG. Address the university or the football program, but don't write one and link to the other. Finally, in infoboxes, the place of birth for American locales should end in ", U.S.". Jweiss11 (talk) 18:05, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes I was just coming here to say the part about the "would". You've created a few articles since this comment and you for whatever reason continue to use the word unnecessarily.-- Yankees10 01:08, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alright, so what should I say? Butters (talk) 02:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Just generally try to avoid using the word "would"; instead of "Beanie Fan would throw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his debut", you could say something like "Beanie Fan threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his debut". BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:37, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Copy-pasting from drafts into articles
[edit]Hi, note that generally you shouldn't copy-paste the content from a draft and start it as a new article - like you did with Quinyon Mitchell / Draft:Quinyon Mitchell - as then the page history is erased. Thanks. BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:35, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Quinyon Mitchell
[edit]How is this person notable yet? Why are you continuing to just ignore what "significant coverage" is? Why did you just straight up copy/paste from the draft without moving it? Yankees10 23:42, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11: As the draft creator I believe you'll agree with me on the first part.-- Yankees10 23:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Yankees10: I think there's a weak case to notability that could be made, although I think it'd still be best remaining in draft - the Toledo Blade has a lot of coverage of Mitchell and then there's some other brief pieces of coverage on him from various outlets, mostly in discussing him as a draft prospect - he seems to be a very promising player so I'm surprised there hasn't been more coverage of him - I had started the draft with the intention of expanding it once more coverage came but User:Dogloverr16 and Butters worked on it today and put it in mainspace. The article 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes football team has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable; this is nothing but a schedule of upcoming events - anything specific to the team can be added to Ohio State Buckeyes

2024 college articles
[edit]Butters, the general rule of thumb is to await until the completion of a college football season before creating articles for next season. So we should wait until after the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 8 before creating 2024 season articles. In the meantime, there's lot of work to do on the 2023 season and all the seasons before. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 21:12, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alright what is their I can work on from this season? Butters (talk) 00:07, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- The 2023 team season articles could use updates to the lead sections to reflect the performance of the team as the season comes to an end. For example, see my last two edits to 2023 Purdue Boilermakers football team. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:10, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Corey Hetherman, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page King's College. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Thomas
[edit]Hey Butters, do you think you'd have the time soon to expand the stub you started on Nathan Thomas (American football)? It looks like he's now the only stub on a 2024 draft pick left and I think it'd be neat if we could have every 2024 pick with at least a start-class article. (I could do it otherwise; let me know if you want me to do it instead). Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 20:25, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

DYK
[edit]Not sure if you have any interest in the Did you know process, but I think - if you add about 300 characters to satisfy length requirements - Keaton Bills would make a good candidate: "... that Bills plays for the Bills?" Let me know your thoughts. BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:11, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know I don't really get the DYK's. Butters (talk) 23:41, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Could you do me a favor since you are an administrator and move the Draft:Elijah Collins to an article for me as it will not allow me to. Butters (talk) 17:48, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not an administrator, so I can't perform the move directly, but I'll make sure it gets moved soon. BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:15, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Also, regarding DYK – its supposed to be a sort of showcase for new articles that have interesting facts (displaying those facts – aka "hooks" – on the main page to attract readers). I had previously considered writing an article for Bills since it seemed like a decent potential hook. If you'd like me to try to get it nominated and approved for you let me know (we have until May 30 to decide). Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:24, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- How is it written? Butters (talk) 19:13, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- The DYK hook itself or the nomination? BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:28, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- both. Butters (talk) 22:40, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- The hook – at least, the one I think would be best – would likely be something like I mentioned in the opening message (e.g. "... that Bills plays for the Bills?"). Nominations can be made here, but the article needs about 300 more characters of prose before it would qualify – to satisfy DYK length requirements. BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:56, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I decided to expand it a bit and nominated it at Template:Did you know nominations/Keaton Bills. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:06, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I believe you have some experience creating/editing college football rivalry articles. Thanks for your work in this area. We really need more of it around here. I was wondering if you have ever taken a look at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Sports/American football#Rivalries. There are numerous other football subjects with requested articles on this page as well. DYK for Keaton Bills
[edit]On 20 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Keaton Bills, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Bills plays for the Bills? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Keaton Bills. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Keaton Bills), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Ethan Hampton. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and major writing should be done in draftspace rather than leaving a completely empty article in mainspace. Question
[edit]Do you have any interest in creating any older (mostly 2010's QB's) college football player articles? Random example being Purdue starter Elijah Sindelar. I can help you find sources and such. I can gradually add new names in a list under this post, just wondering if this is something that would potentially interest you. Yankees10 22:18, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe Butters (talk) 22:34, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok well I found some sources on Sindelar if you are interested.-- Yankees10 22:39, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
So you don't appear to be interested in this but yet you continue to create the most random run of the mill players.-- Yankees10 23:32, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- What's wrong with that? Butters (talk) 23:44, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- there is nothing wrong with not having interest in creating the guy I brought up. Just some of the guys you do create and completely random college football players and aren't notable. AKA "run of the mill"-- Yankees10 00:01, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Butters.From.SouthPark,
It looks like you took a valid draft article, turned it into a redirect to a main space article which you created by copying and pasting the draft article on another page. This is really improper conduct, to usurp an article created by another editor. I hope you haven't done this before. No one cares who gets credit for creating an article so don't take that away from a fellow editor. It makes me want to investigate all of your article creations to see if they are valid. Liz Read! While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Proposed deletion of Clemson/Ohio State football rivalry
[edit]The article Clemson–Ohio State football rivalry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
WP:Notability This matchup is not much of a rivalry. Aside from a couple playoff meetings, there is no real display of a rival nature between the two, especially since they have never scheduled each other in the regular season. Yes, there have been controversial moments between the two teams, but those details can be best suited in the pages for the respective games they took place, since they are all postseason games, so they will have their own pages.
