List of NFL nicknames Tom Brady “The G.O.A.T”
How do think that nickname shouldn’t be added...?Do you want me to add more Credible links to verify that every NFL writer calls him the goat!? Also the paragraph was pulled off NFL.com
How about you just google search “ whos the goat of the nfl” and see what comes up… Matty634 (talk) 21:21, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Matty634 while I agree many people (not me) call Brady the G.O.A.T., I also agree with the revert by Dissident93 as its not a very unique nickname. Its common as every major sport tries to find "a GOAT". Another thing, as reported by CBSSPORTS (and one of the top results when I searched "whos the goat of the nfl"), according to Pro-Football-Reference.com, Brady statistically is not the greatest QB ever, Peyton Manning is. As said in my revert, if you still believe the nickname should be added, please start a discussion at Talk:List of NFL nicknames or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League. Thanks. John D. Naylor
BeanieFan11, thanks for removing that 1896 reference. That was a weird copy/paste error I made, I guess. I had just added that reference to 1896 Missouri Tigers football team and 1896 Vanderbilt Commodores football team, where it belongs. Jweiss11 (talk) 01:16, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Advertisements
I'd like to further explain why I removed quotes of old advertisements at Green Meadow, Delaware. Our Reliable sources policy tells us that "Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". Although most newspapers are trusted sources with good editorial oversight, ads (as explained in WP:SPONSORED) are not subject to fact-checking and are published verbatim. They fail both the "independent" and "reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" requirements.
It might seem like it would be OK to quote an ad if it's clearly described as such, and in many types of writing that would be the case. However Wikipedia content is bound by our Due weight policy, which tells us to cover "all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources." If something only appears in an unreliable source such as an ad, it doesn't merit inclusion here.
A rule of thumb I like to follow is that Wikipedia articles are based on what independent reliable sources say about the subject, not what the subject says about itself. –dlthewave ☎ 18:19, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of John D. Naylor
The article John D. Naylor you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:John D. Naylor for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Navboxes
Can you make navboxes for the ACC coach of the year and those of other college conferences? Bigmike2346 (talk) 13:25, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- I would recommend against making such navboxes. I don't think conference awards rise to level of significance such that they warrant a navbox. And coach bio articles tend to have a whole lot of navboxes already! Jweiss11 (talk) 14:51, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Your decision to restore all of these men's soccer articles, for which there is extensive consensus that redirects are the right decision, is incredibly disruptive, especially since there is an open AFD regarding this exact issue. You should revert your changes until AFTER the AFD has concluded, not before. Jay eyem (talk) 23:11, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
Dude, stop
There is already established consensus against the articles you are restoring. This was already settled in past AfDs and the most recent AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2019 Ohio State Buckeyes men's soccer team. Do I seriously need to take this to AfD? Jay eyem (talk) 15:52, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

I disagree with your reversion; the user in question has made only a single edit that hasn't in some way been involved in promoting a political meme after making a series of 20 small edits on October 5/6. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 15:42, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

CCNY
Thanks for taking up the CCNY challenge. The sourcing I found did not indicate the school was known as "CCNY" in the 1870s, nor was there any indication of a "Lavender" nickname. Let me know if you find any evidence of that. If not, and assuming the articles are rescued, we should consider moving to "187* City College of New York football team" or something along those lines. Cbl62 (talk) 03:34, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: sorry for the late response, I did not find them known as "CCNY" either, and would support moving the pages to 18__ City College of New York football team". BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:56, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello!
Hello! I wanted to reach out and inquire if you would be interested in helping me create a page for Shepherd Rams football. (full disclosure, I graduated from the school.) The team has made it in the past six years to the DII National championship, as well as the semi-finals, and is relatively routinely a power in division II, so I do believe it would be worth creating a page separate from their athletics page. I have no experience creating pages, but thought maybe you would be interested in helping.
Ps, your input in all of the recent AfD pages has really helped me understand the process and policies better (as I clearly jumped the gun on 2016 Shepherd Rams football team,) so I wanted to express appreciation in that regard. Spf121188 (talk) 20:48, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Spf121188: Sure! :) I can help you create an article for the Shepherd Rams football team (I was surprised when you said they didn't already have one, considering all of the program's accomplishments). What would you like me to do? BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:53, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Well, I’ve never created a page, or even a template for one, so I’m not 100% sure where to even start. But, your template for Lock Haven football I feel like would be a good start. I think I could be of help to find some independent, reliable sources for program information (given that I know a decent amount about the football program there,) but the technical side of creating pages is where I struggle still since it’s new to me. If you have any guidance or resources on how to begin the page creation process, I think I can surface some sources to support creation for the page. Let me know where to start. Thank you again for your willingness to help with this! :) Spf121188 (talk) 03:29, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Spf121188: I created a draft article for the football team here, which we can work on. See if you can find which years they won the conference championship and add them in the section titled "championships" (I added instructions there). It would also help if you could write some in the history section and add some references about it. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:45, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes! This is great. Once I'm done with my work day I will be able to help fill in some blanks here. Thank you for helping me with this! I'll be in touch as I work through this. Spf121188 (talk) 19:53, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Good morning Beanie, sorry I didn't get to work on this yesterday, I had a busy work day, but I will make time this afternoon/evening to add to the page. I'll keep you updated, thanks again for helping with this! Spf121188 (talk) 13:02, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello again! I'm doing some work on the Shepherd football draft page, but I'm having trouble with how to go about writing the history of the program, so that's where I am currently, but I'll keep working on it and hopefully we can have a good draft soon. Just wanted to keep you updated. Thanks again for your help! Spf121188 (talk) 16:47, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. I could write the program history if you prefer, I just would need a few sources post-1970s (I can find references for years before that on Newspapers.com) which talk about it. Also, see if you can find what they were classified as from 1966-1975. I see College Football Data Warehouse [1] list multiple classifications for the same years, which I do not think is possible. Howdy! Just a quick warning regarding article creation.
It seems like you've been creating a lot of articles for football players that fail speedy criteria a7 / WP:GNG. I would recommend taking your article ideas to WP:AFC. Happy editing! Hyperwave11 (talk) 23:58, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperwave11: The topics you nominated for speedy deletion easily meet GNG in my opinion (that's the only reason I created them) and I believe the nominations are ridiculous. Please take them to AFD if you believe they are non-notable. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:10, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- See WP:NCOLLATH. Hyperwave11 (talk) 00:11, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperwave11: Multiple of those do meet NCOLLATH! Could you revert those placements of speedy deletion? BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:11, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperwave11: I'd also like to note that failing NCOLLATH/NGRIDIRON is completely irrelevant if the topic in question meets the general notability guideline, which, I believe each article you nominated (and nearly every other article I've ever created) meets. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:28, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- Jack Kraynick, no notability in college football, or not present in article, never played professionally, and did no other notable things under another catagory.
- Wally Garard Never played pro, no notability as a college athlete WP:ROUTINE
- Frank Gore Jr. nothing but WP:ROUTINE
- Cain Madden high school does not make a subject notable except under extraordinary circumstance. besides that, college career is nothing but more WP:ROUTINE
- Tiawan Mullen Honorable mentions is not notable. the rest is more WP:ROUTINE. Hyperwave11 (talk) 00:19, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Hyperwave11: Frank Gore Jr. easily meets GNG, you're calling it all "routine" which in my opinion is nonsense. Jack Kraynick is a historical NFL draft pick, and I believe he meets GNG with the articles cited in addition to multiple articles on Newspapers.com. Wally Garard is the same. Cain Madden and Tiawan Mullen both meet NCOLLATH for being on the 2020 All-America team. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:21, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- "Frank Gore Jr. easily meets GNG" mind elaborating?
- What makes historical draft picks on their own notable?
- Regarding Cain and Taiwan, I'll concede those do pass, I was unaware of exactly what the all-america team was, so had no reason to assume notability from it. Hyperwave11 (talk) 00:27, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- Did you even do a google search for Frank Gore Jr.? Also, about Kraynick and Garard, I believe they have notability through articles you can find on newspapers.com, which is why I created them. And I have 11,000+ edits, and 480+ article creations, with none being deleted, so its safe to assume I have some understanding of wikipedia's policies on notability. - @Hyperwave11: While I agree not all of them qualify as SIGCOV, the ones that do easily prove a pass of notability. Also, a search of him on Newspapers.com brings up many additional results. You can nominate him at AFD if you still believe he is non-notable. BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:35, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

- also, from what I'm reading, all the sources for wally seem to fall under 1e, but nothing else there passes gng, gridiron, or ncollath, leaving the rest to sorta be WP:PSEUDO
I feel like there's a case to be made as to whether the article should be structured to reflect that, or if that warrants the bio structure you chose, but I feel like that should be up to a third-party, we've both let our emotions cloud our judgement and probably aren't the best folk for it regardless of qualifications. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

DYK for Lonny Calicchio
On 19 December 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lonny Calicchio, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that placekicker Lonny Calicchio was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles to the practice squad, promoted to the active roster, named starter, and released all within eight days? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lonny Calicchio. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lonny Calicchio), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sydney Rooster historic players
Hi, I see you made many AfDs for these players, which I an inclined to agree with you about (that being, without a name, how can we even try to determine notability). Would it not have made sense to have had a bundled discussion with them all together, given the vast number? If it then transpired any could be determined as notable or the names known, take them out. As it stands, they all seem to be in the same state with the same rationale. Just a thought. - I guess I forgot that they could be bundled when I was nominating them. Is there any way to "merge" AFDs? Though I think the outcome would be the same either way. BeanieFan11 (talk) 20:11, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- I am unsure of the process of merging an AfD once its created. Many of these (maybe all) perhaps would have been better suited being prodded instead? A week without interaction would result in an expired prod outcome anyway, but maybe worth bearing in mind. Bungle (talk • contribs) 21:45, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe, but I had a feeling someone might de-prod them due to the SNG pass. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:47, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Afd Categorisation
Hi there, just thought I'd say that rugby union and rugby league are different sports, and so rugby league players/staff/clubs/etc shouldn't be included in the rugby union AfD category. I appreciate it's a bit confusing and was likely a mistake from the thanks on the removal. Not sure there is a specific rugby league AfD category, so perhaps a message on the rugby league WikiProject might suffice given the number of AfD's. Many thanks. - I left a notice on the project talk page. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:31, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
