C'mon!!! DO IT! :P SQLQuery me! 06:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
~*Giggle*~ Hi Lara! Well, I think it has been mentioned lately. I was waiting for my dear friend, Phaedriel, who was to be my nominator. Unfortunately, I may have to decide to proceed without her. I will have to start thinking about it more seriously I guess. ArielGold 06:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Phaedriel has retired? LaraLove 07:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, she has not edited on any project since the end of September, and I have not heard from her via email in over a month. I would not say she is retired, but it does appear she's on a break, and I am not sure when she would be available to do the nomination. ArielGold 07:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Must be busy with the job promotion. Well, if you are interested, there are plenty of people willing to nom, I'm sure. I'm one of them. Just let me know. LaraLove 07:10, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
I bet you can make 'most nominated at RFA' :) C'mon, whom here is willing to nom!??! I'll start the RFA in my userspace in a bit... :P SQLQuery me! 07:18, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Hahaha, cute, SQL :p I think that too many nominators is a bad idea, personally. I think one nominator is sufficient, and at most, one co-nominator. More than that, I personally don't think is necessary. Editors are free to add their reasons, for both supporting and opposing, with diffs and examples, and I think that is just as helpful to explain why one has the opinion they do. I'll have to talk to a couple of people. Some of them may be away for the holidays, so we'll see. ArielGold 07:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

(u)Pfft. I CALL CO-NOM! :) SQLQuery me! 09:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Do you remember which one? It is possible it was an imposter, there have been a few imposters created in the last day with names of known editors here. ArielGold 14:02, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, no. Will let you know immediately if I do see it again. Shir-El too (talk) 14:17, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you please help me

I started Adam Lasnik page because I saw reference to it in Search engine optimization page under sub title Search engine optimization. Sory I did not know you have to build a page in a sandbox first. Can you guve me a command for building a page in the sandbox. And what do I do once I finish with it, do I just move it? Also is it okay to build Adm Lasnik page, or there is a block request to Wikipedia by Adam Lasnik not to have his page? Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 14:11, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel :) First of all, Happy Thanksgiving! Now, I'm afraid I bring some unpleasant news—remember this? Well, it's happened again, now over at the Portuguese Wikipedia. I've asked for a block, and will ask a bureaucrat to rename the account so you can register. Best wishes, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 23:35, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Ugh, I did work my way down the list of sister sites, but after making about 30 accounts, I took a break, and I guess I didn't get to Portuguese WP. Thank you for noticing it, and for taking care of the request to rename, as I don't know the language. I really appreciate you letting me know, and if you would let them know I'm over here, when it is renamed I'll go and make the name. Thank you so much, ArielGold 05:58, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello! about cards...

Hi Ariel, I keep seeing cards on users talk pages every where, e.g. thanks for supporting my RfA sorta thing, and I thought wouldn't it be great to have a template for that sort-of thing,

So I hope one doesn't already exist, because I have been playing with parser functions for a while now!!
Neway heres some examples:

{{User:PhilipBembridge/Sandbox/Gift|style=3|message=Hi Ariel!|title=Hello world!!|sig=~~~~}}

There are more options inc. a christmas and halloween one so far

{{User:PhilipBembridge/Sandbox/Gift|style=halloween|message=Hi Ariel!|title=Hello world!!|sig=~~~~}} {{User:PhilipBembridge/Sandbox/Gift|style=christmas|message=Hi Ariel!|title=Hello world!!|sig=~~~~}}

Hope you like them!! PhilB ~ T/C 17:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Heheh, it looks like you have a few bugs to work out, when I click on the link next to "edit" I ended up editing your sandbox! lol I would suggest that you use something like this extremely sparingly, as not everyone likes their talk pages "decorated", so to speak. In fact, some editors have a note at the top stating they wish to not receive smilies, or RfA thanks, that sort of thing. I'm not sure that a template for them is really needed, honestly, as most editors would just create their own. This isn't to say you can't use them to learn parser functions, of course, and feel free to try them out on me, but don't be offended if I remove them lol. ArielGold 17:09, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah, you clicked on the edit tab next to the title, that sends you to the template's edit page, that was a problem that was easy to sort out though, I added __NOEDITSECTION__ to the template page
And by doing that, you've removed all the edit sections from my page, or any page that the card is on, lol. And, the headers don't display as intended now, you should remove headers completely, have one card per page, don't make it NOEDITSECTION, because otherwise, it puts all cards on the page. Users can add their own headers. Templates should never force a section header, IMO. ArielGold 17:16, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah good point, sorry :-( , I removed the title
Apart from that, is it a good template? from some looser (XD) called PhilB ~ T/C 17:20, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Also, your style 1 was designed by me for my RfA thanks spam. While you're free to use it, I'd really prefer you not. I created that as a play on my name and my heart with my user page color scheme and would prefer it not be spammed all over WP by a bunch of people. At least not in the exact color format I created it in. Some distinction would be preferred. Thanks for your consideration. LaraLove 17:25, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Honestly Philip, as I said, I'm not sure it is needed. And, as Lara mentions, when using another editor's personal style, it is perhaps a good idea to talk to them first about it. While granted, everything here is GFDL, and free for all, it is just a nice courtesy. I would definitely not move it into template space, but if you want to leave it in your userspace to use for yourself, sure. Personally, I'd make it smaller, more discrete, less obtrusive, etc., and don't take that personally. While I think that the occasional card is nice, I also think that they are not something that should be used excessively. I think it is great that you're learning coding stuff this way, and again, feel free to practice here, it is a safe place :o) ArielGold 17:28, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah sorry LaraLove, I should have probably asked the people I addapted the designs off... I will go do that now PhilB ~ T/C
Is it okay if I change the image, but keep the colour scheme? P.s. what do you think of the idea? pps i wasn't planning on moving it template namespace, it would be used tooo much (understatement) —Preceding unsigned comment added by PhilipBembridge (talkcontribs) 17:32, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I think that it would be an okay thing to have, but if you want to work on more coding stuff, make it so that the individuals can choose their own image, size, and color schemes, by setting an Image: and color numbers. That'd be a bit of coding challenge for you! ~*Giggle*~ ArielGold 17:42, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Now that newest version I like much, much better! Small, unobtrusive, very nice. Still something I'd use sparingly, but much nicer for a general purpose "card" of sorts! ArielGold 17:43, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Its now a lot smaller and I found a different image, p.s. could I use this image Ariel? i know that you use it. Neway, i will be a while now, off for my tea XD PhilB ~ T/C 17:44, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

It isn't "My" image, lol. Of course you can use it. ArielGold 17:48, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm fine with that, PhilB. Looks cute. I like that idea better than the Smiles that people send. Very cute. Good size. LaraLove 17:49, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Lara! pfft I hate those "User has smiled at you" it sounds soo cheesy to me! although I have never got one :-(
I am currently working on the documentation, hoping that other people will be able to understand it as well as me! PhilB ~ T/C 18:47, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Merry Christmass!

Hi Ariel, I know its a bit early, but I hope you appreciate my ickle Christmas card for you! XD PhilB ~ T/C 18:47, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

That's cute! I'd make it red and green, instead of black and orange, though. Kind of looks like halloween, lol. (That's just me, though!) ArielGold 18:53, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Eh you see it as black and orange? :-s I see it as gold and dark green (perhaps I should find web safe colours instead of inventing them)
Anyway, I was torn between red and orange and I thought that the gold and green would match the tree, perhaps I could do two designs PhilB ~ T/C 19:06, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
If you would like a halloween one:

I need to ask someone about using that one first though... PhilB ~ T/C 19:06, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
I just noticed a comment up above somewhere saying it would be good if people could choose there own images etc., I'm afraid that I was one step ahead of you ;-p , well you can change some things:

{{User:PhilipBembridge/Sandbox/Gift | gimage = Image:Emblem-favorites.svg | message = Hello World!! | boardercol = #990000 | bgcolour = #996655 | textcolour = #ffffff | opencolour = #cccccc | sig = ~~~~ }}

which gives horrible colours!! PhilB ~ T/C 21:26, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that message. I was actually looking for both of them as it were. The alternate account box was just to show the background colour - as I don't know how to get that brick colour on {{User inactive travel}}.

If you want to help me with my template-editing skills, then all help is much appreciated. Thanks, --Solumeiras talk 14:52, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Okay I made the template, with the background color you wanted, there are three parameters: First: Month/Day of return. Second: Year (optional), and third: Place of visiting. It is here: User:ArielGold/sandbox2

Example use:

{{subst:User:ArielGold/sandbox2|January 1|2008|Ireland}} which results in:

I'll post this on your talk page, as well. ArielGold 14:58, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I'll have to try and learn a bit more about ParserFunctions!! You've been a great help! --Solumeiras talk 15:29, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm still tweaking it so the punctuation works with, or without the parameters. When I'm done, would you like me to update the template, or just drop you a note here?

Feel free to do both of them, it's up to you. Thanks, --Solumeiras talk 15:33, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I'm not sure I can get all three to be optional, lol. While I know how to tweak some to make this work, I'm not a code-y person, so I'm not able to figure out why it is doing what it is doing, lmao. I think that making the two dates required, and the place of travel optional is the best solution, so that's what I'll do. ArielGold 15:35, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Message from someone who doesn't like video deletions

Hi. Sorry I yelled like that, but I just don't like anything from the internet to be deleted. And it just so happens that another of the articles I recreated was deleted: The one for Ariel's Beginning. I've acted like this ever since the DMCA deleted my first AMV (A Foster's AMV called "Eduardo's Belief in Desire" which features Do As Infinity's "Desire") from YouTube. I was even more angry when I was banned from Never Forgotten's forum for posting innappropriate material (originally made by Nathan James "njhcerebus" Henderson), and I still will never forgive Cynthia "Sparky" Read for banning me. I told her again and again to un-ban me, but she still has not done that and never will. Isn't there anything in the internet that doesn't like anything to be deleted? If there is, I'd be happy. Thanks. ~~LDEJRuff~~ (talk) 16:21, 25 November 2007 (EDT)

Hello :) I must be honest, I am not sure what your comment is referring to at all, so I will just point you to what Wikipedia is not, and also let you know that generally, YouTube has copyright issues, so if you added an external link to something from YouTube, and I removed it, that is probably why. Also, per the external links policy, links to video are discouraged, as readers should not be expected to have special programs to view content (audio/video links). I should also note that I don't delete articles, but there are a specific set of criteria for deletion, and if something you wrote was deleted, perhaps you could review that page to see why. If you did create a page that was deleted, I'd suggest that you ask the deleting administrator the reason, and I'm sure they would be happy to explain it to you :) Cheers! Good work unlinking dups, but please don't unlink years when they're part of a full date, even if they are already linked earlier. In those cases the wikilink serves to allow users' formatting preferences to work - it's not there as a link in the conventional sense. See WP:DATE#Autoformatting and linking for a fuller explanation. Colonies Chris (talk) 16:40, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Personally I'll stick with Blue or Parmizan, but I knew someone who kept a Brie as a pet under the porch steps: they trotted it out whenever they wanted to get rid of certain guests. ~ Seriously, just dropping in to say "Hi" and ask you to peek at "Berlinka". I tinkered a little, the story appealed to me for some reason. Thank you for your good wishes. Someone once pointed out that the distance between birth and death will be constant no matter what we do - so why not have fun while we're at it? Most important: I forgot to ask about e-mails on WP; I'd have sent one instead of leaving this message - I gather it's much more private than talk pages? Sweet dreams, Shir-El too (talk) 10:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, you'll need to set an email address in "my preferences", and enabled email from others after confirming your email, (which Wikipedia tells me you haven't, when I try to email you), but that is private, for discussing family stuff, yes. :o) ArielGold 10:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Please, advise

Since you have helped the Jayne Mansfield article to become what it is today, I'd like to draw your attention to another article split off from the main one - Jayne Mansfield in popular culture. It has been nominated for deletion a second time here, and the supports so far are three way - "Delete", "Keep" and "Merge" - with a few comments thrown in (mostly by the nominator and I). Would you take a look at the debate and the article? Even if you stay away from voicing your view on the debate page, you can advise me on my talk page (may be lend a hand, too). I hope I am not canvassing :P. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:35, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't consider something like this canvassing, in fact, it is appropriate to notify editors who may be interested in an article when it is nominated for deletion as a courtesy, so please don't worry about that. :o) However, I am personally not a fan of trivia/pop culture sections in articles, much less an entire article devoted to them, lol. I don't think the sections are relevant to the subject, except in limited cases, and those can be added into the article's prose, rather than a dry list of disconnected items. I will take a look at both the article, and the nomination, and give my thoughts, but they are just my own personal opinions, although guidelines do discourage trivia/pop culture sections, consensus keeps many of them in some cases. Thanks for letting me know! ArielGold 14:39, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Beginning Portal Review

Hello Ariel, would you please take a look at a portal that I've been working on. User:Rocketmaniac/South Carolina2 I used North Carolina's Portal as a template. But now it, the editing of the page is weird. For instance, to edit the Intro I have to go to User:Rocketmaniac/South Carolina2/Intro to see my data....... not with the normal "edit" button. Did mess something up? Or was North Carolina's portal just a bad example to copy? Any suggestions how to "spruce" it up a little? Thanks. I know I've been asking you to fix my "problem" pages. (but you so good fixing my stuff) Rocketmaniac (talk) 12:12, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, just glancing at it, the reason it doesn't work when you click "edit", is because right now, it is in your userspace, but the edit link is for Portal:South Carolina/Intro, which does not yet exist. I would think once you moved it, it would work, but honestly I'm not a big expert on portals. I'll tell you who is awesome at it, is The Transhumanist, if you want to ask that editor for help, although I'm not sure if they are busy with other projects or not. The thing about copying portal templates from other portals is (and I found this out the hard way after I wanted to copy a style to use for a bookmarks type page), they often have so many subpages, and so many things that are customized just for them, that trying to copy them leads to massive headaches, lol. You have it mostly working, although you have /pre formatting in a few spots, because of leading spaces/tabs/indents, but I imagine once you move to portal space you can fix those easily. Let me know if you need anything else, I think it looks good, considering how hard it is to do portals! ArielGold 23:56, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks you looking at it for me. I've post the question to The Transhumanist and we'll see if he (??) can answer the question better. Again, thanks for looking it for me. Any idea about the on-going issue with the flag icons in the List of astronauts? Rocketmaniac (talk) 00:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I was thinking about that issue today as a matter of fact. I honestly don't know. I personally think that entire list needs to be changed, put the names into a table, or something, I don't know. But the flags drastically add to the page load time for someone on dial up, so I'm not sure. We could ask on WT:FLAG for opinions, maybe? ArielGold 00:46, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
WELL, after only 30 minutes after I posted the question to The Transhumanist, it was fixed. He did not go into detail as to what he did, but he worked his magic. Now, as far as the List of astronauts is concerned, should I post the question to WT:FLAG or would it be better to come from a "big time admin" person like yourself? Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
LOL I hate to break it to you, but I'm not an admin, or a "big time" anything :) I'm just an editor like yourself. I saw TH's note to you on your talk page, he said that the targets were to the Portal:South Carolina, which, since it doesn't exist yet, caused the problems, and he changed the links to be User:Rocketmaniac instead. When you move it, you'll have to change all the links back for it to work. I am not sure what to do with the flag thing, honestly. I know you went to a ton of work on that, and I personally think it looks much better, and it certainly loads a lot faster, but that's just my opinion. I think maybe it could be re-done as a table, where flag icons can be appropriate, but I don't really know. ArielGold 12:27, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, you seem like an admin the way you are helping EVERYONE out. I guess then, you are just a "big time editor". I will post a question on WT:FLAG when I get home from school. (I'm just about finished this this semester thank god). Rocketmaniac (talk) 13:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I'd suggest not posting the question there just yet. I'd like to dig a bit deeper into the valid uses of flags first, the history of the style guideline, and look into past flag disputes and their resolutions. I think that a list may be a valid use of them, even if it does slow the page down, so let me look into it first, okay? Thanks, ArielGold 13:33, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello

November is officially almost over! But I thought you might appreciate this, as you seem to enjoy the pun. I (talk) 06:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Creating a "Category"

Good morning "Big time editor" (LOL, I need to create a wiki award for a "big time editor" and present it to you). I was working on my South Carolina Portal and wanted to create a list like Category:Texas-related lists. But clicking on the "edit this page" doesn't should much. How does one create a "Category"? Thanks, Rocketmaniac 13:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, first, I'm a bit unclear, do you want to create a new list for the Texas-related lists category? Or are you talking about creating a new category for current lists of South Carolina related topics? Would there be enough articles/lists to need a category? If there are only a few, you can always use the "See also" feature to link them together. If you decide that you do need the category, you just create it by typing a short explanation of what it does or, like the Texas one, just add the portal link, and then simply adding the category to the pages you want to be in it. ArielGold 14:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I want a "Category:South Carolina-related lists". I was trying to see how the Texas one was built but didn't understand how it was coded/written. I have the data for the Category here User:Rocketmaniac/South Carolina-related lists. Rocketmaniac 15:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Category created: Category:South Carolina-related lists. (FYI: When you link a category on a talk page, add a colon at the start: [[:Category:South Carolina-related lists]] so it doesn't add the page to the category.) Just add that to each page in your list. I did a couple for example. ArielGold 15:47, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Awesome! I'm able to add articles, but I don't totally understand what you are saying about adding a link to a talk page. Also, since most links begin with "list" they are all showing up under the "L" category. How do I put them in different sections, ie put "List of Governors of South Carolina" under the "G"? Rocketmaniac 16:00, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I saw that, it is because the Governor's list is done by a default {{state}} category template. I'm not sure if you can change them, I'd have to look at the Texas ones more closely. And re: talk pages, I just meant like, here, with your first post you tried to show me the Texas category, but it added my talk page to that category, because you didn't place a coloon in front so it would display, so to me, the sentence looked like: "wanted to create a list like ." (I fixed it so it displayed) I don't mean adding anything to any article talk pages. Just explaining about how to make a category visible when discussing one on a talk page. ArielGold 16:03, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Okay, to sort by something other than "L" for "List", add a parameter, for example: List of South Carolina state parks: [[Category:South Carolina-related lists|State parks]] - That should work. Let me test it out... Yep that works. ArielGold 16:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Nexen

Hi ArielGold,

PLEASE!! Just let me finish the revisions that the other administrator asked me to do. PLEASE!! Remove all the warnings from the page. Thanks, Oilwebguy —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oilwebguy (talkcontribs) 19:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Dear Oilwebguy, as a representative or employee of Nexen, Inc, you are in a conflict of interest by editing the article, and blanking nearly the entire article is not acceptable form without discussion. Please show me where a Wikipedia administrator instructed you to blank the article of nearly all information, and I will repeat the action personally. However, if you are referring to a Nexen administrator, I'm afraid that they do not have the authority to make such a decision. Please review the policies and guidelines found in the help menu to understand more about Wikipedia, and please do not blank the article. Instead, discuss the issues you have problems with on the article's talk page, and due to a conflict of interest, it would be best if you allow neutral, non-involved editors to edit the article. Thanks! ArielGold 19:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks you for all of your help. If you have a chance could you take a look at my article and let me know if I have added enough references to prove the article should not be deleted. Also, I can not figure out how to put in a cite. Any advice? Thank you Jaymes10 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaymes10 (talkcontribs) 20:19, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jaymes, you can find information about how to properly format footnotes at WP:CITE and templates at WP:CIT. As for the sources you added, they verify information like education, etc., but the person may still not meet the notability guidelines for Wikipedia. For the awards, citations need to be found for those, and that may be able to establish notability. I looked for reliable sources on the person, but wasn't able to find any initially. Hopefully you can find more. Cheers! ArielGold 20:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I understand that there isn't a lot of internet information on Mary Style Harris but she is written about in many books and has been an important person (african america and female) in the area of genetics. I have added a few more books to my sources. After reading the guidelines it looks to me like Mary Styles Harris meets them. Please let me know if you agree. Thank you Jaymes10 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaymes10 (talkcontribs)

Hi Jaymes, I removed journeytowellness.com from the references, as that is not a reliable source, and I consolidated the other reference using the multiple reference format. (P.S. please remember to sign your comments, by typing four tildes at the end, instead of typing your username, this will automatically sign it, linking to your userpage, and date it, (~~~~) ) Hope that helps! ArielGold 22:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Could journeytowellness.com be considered a relaible source because it is Mary Harris' company so she may have written the information herself? Also, she is a doctor, should that be added before her name in the begining of the article? What types of sources are missing that would qualify as establishing notablity?Jaymes10 22:14, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Reliable sources are third-party sources, such as media reports, professional journals, etc., and her website is a primary source. It could be used to verify basic information, but for the most part, self-published sources aren't considered reliable. Please review the biographies of living persons policy, which will explain much more about why sources are important with regards to biographies. As for referring to her as "Dr", it should not be done in the prose, but as she has a Ph.D., that can be added after her name in the opening sentence, and I've done that and linked it to the article. Hope that helps! ArielGold 22:32, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Removal of sources

You're going to have to explain to me your reason for removing the three citations to 2000 AD from Frances Lynn, as your edit summary is somewhat misleading. You stated that Wikipedia is not a WP:RS, and cannot be used as a reference - please see WP:V#Sources. Please be advised that I am not referencing Wikipedia, I am citing three specific issues of 2000 AD in which her stories appeared. These are primary sources and can be cited as such per our policy at Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. Primary sources that have been published by a reliable source may be used in Wikipedia, but only with care, because it is easy to misuse them. For that reason, anyone—without specialist knowledge—who reads the primary source should be able to verify that the Wikipedia passage agrees with the primary source. Anyone can refer to the comic and ascertain that the stories were published as cited, so the cites are in line with policy. Hiding T 20:31, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, crossed posting, I explained on your talk page as you posted here, it was a simple mistake on my part, and I was in the process of reverting myself when you did it. As I explained on your talk page, I'd been watching the ongoing COI issues with the subject editing her own article, citing non-reliable sources, such as geocities, and other non-reliable sources, and I did not realize those were added by you, as they appeared to be her simply citing the Wikipedia page on the comic to verify her writing for it. Again, my apologies. ArielGold 20:36, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
No trouble. I thought that was what the problem was, but I just wanted to check. Sorry if I came across as a pompous arse. Hiding T 20:34, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I just added the direct citation [2] at the 2000 AD website. Gordonofcartoon 20:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry, I believe that one good turn deserves an other, however, you are correct I shouldn't be so rude in my edit summaries. I have contributed to Wikipedia for a long while now, and I really should know better. The next time I encounter vandalism I will be more courteous, with my comments. Still you have to admit the user was being stupid. 74.133.9.95 03:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, I completely understand. But it is best to use neutral edit summaries, to avoid any further antagonism or problems, as I'm sure you understand. Welcome back again, and thanks again for your help with removing unhelpful edits! ArielGold 03:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Are you an admin? Can you delete La Salle Brickfields‎. It is a test page. 74.133.9.95 03:53, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Nevermind someone else already has. 74.133.9.95 03:54, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Ooops sorry I did not see this. But, no I'm not an admin. I probably could have found one to delete the page, though, but you could just tag them for deletion. And hey, if you'd like to read up on what has changed, with regards to vandalism patrol, feel free to check out my guide on it, it would probably help refresh your memory. Cheers! ArielGold 03:58, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
I remember how to revert the vandalism just fine. It's reverting POV edits that I can't remember any of the templates to warn users with. 74.133.9.95 04:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, all the templates are hard to remember, it is best to use {{subst:uw-test1}} for anything not obvious destruction, as most of the stuff is just test edits, but there are templates for blanking, for WP:BLP, for NPOV, for unsourced statements, all sorts. I have a link to all the templates on that page, let me grab it for you... Here ya go. Hope that helps! ArielGold 04:22, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
That is a lot of templates. Can you get an admin to clear out Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. It is getting full. 74.133.9.95 04:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Also [3] this page is semi-protected and I can not revert the vandalism. Can you take care of it please? 74.133.9.95 04:32, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

 Done ArielGold 04:34, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism is backlogged again. 74.133.9.95 05:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
It fluctuates, backlogged is 4+ reports, but they get cleared out pretty quickly. There is a bot that adds a backlog tag to the page, to alert admins when there are a number of reports, so rest assured, someone will attend to it :o) ArielGold 05:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Blatant vandalism should get a serious warning. When the vandalism is testing I warn them with the standard 1-4 test templates. But serious vandalism i.e. swear words, personal attacks, et al, get a serious warning. When did that change? 74.133.9.95 05:16, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
This type of thing is not blatant vandalism, and doesn't deserve a block threat on the first notice. Yes, it is an unhelpful edit, and should be removed, but it should be warned with {{subst:uw-vand1}}, or more appropriately, {{subst:uw-test1}}, and not with a message that threatens to block the editor. Also, the parameter for article should be used, to link to the article the message relates to (see the templates for instructions on how to add the parameter). The vast majority of reverts are tests, or simply unconstructive edits, and even if they use swear words, standard notices should be placed, rather than threaten a block. Malicious vandalism, like someone who obviously knows Wikicode, and replaces a page with obscene images, or formats background colors or fonts for disruption, or adds megabytes of information, deserve an "only warning" template with a block threat, but for most of the stuff you will come across, it is best to use the templates that are standard, in escalating order, rather than the {{subst:Blatantvandal}} template. WP:AGF is almost always to be done with first and second incidents. I'm not sure how long you've been gone, but that Blatantvandal template even explains that it is not used for first notices, and gives the links to the proper templates to use. Policy has changed, and indeed, is ever changing, so it is possible that when you were here before, this system was not implemented. But I suggest that you use these levels, 1-4, in consecutive order, as this is the standard way to notify disruptive editors. Cheers~ ArielGold 05:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Userboxes

Hi I was wondering if you could tell me how to put userboxes on my page? Thanks! --Leamarie411x2 03:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello Leamarie! You can find all sorts of information about userboxes at Wikipedia:Userboxes, including instructions for different layouts, and links to a variety of types! Hope that helps! ArielGold 03:48, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, but I went to that page, and I find it very confusing. Most likley because I'm probably among the younger Wikipedians.--Leamarie411x2 04:01, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, you have to find a userbox you like, and then you can add it via tables. If you just have one or two, you can add them, but they sometimes have display issues when doing it that way. If you pick a couple and would like to let me know which ones, I'd be happy to add them to your userpage for you if you wish. Cheers, ArielGold 04:04, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi I figered out. I was looking at the wrong part of the page. I have a ton of animal userboxes now!--Leamarie411x2 04:21, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Grats! I fixed it up to remove the formatting issues for you, but I can put them into tables that are easier to organize, if you want. ArielGold 04:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Could you put it in tables in groups: Cats Dogs Other Animals for me? That'd be great!--Leamarie411x2 04:28, 2 December 2007 (UTC) Hi If you do put my userboxes into tables for me (PLEASE) I'd like the categories to be Animals, Food, Music, The Arts (for now). Also, where is the "This user plays the flute" userbox? I play the flute, and saw it on your page, so I want that userbox. You can also just give me the code if that's easier.--Leamarie411x2 04:54, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Okay I did most of that, added the flute box, added a header and a colored border, and some hidden code so you can see where to add things, just look at how each one is set up, and you should be able to figure it out. :o) ArielGold 04:58, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

How do I find the hidden code(where is it?). Thanks for the tables. I have to go now, so just leave a post on my page. Thanks.--Leamarie411x2 05:06, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

You'll see it when you edit the page, it says your name, and has directions. It is between characters that look like this: <!--Leamarie put userboxes here--> Goodnight! ArielGold 05:08, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel Can you go to my page User:Leamarie411x2 and click on the sandbox link at the bottom for me? I started a draft of a stub or an article, I'm not sure which one it should be yet, and I'd like to know your opinion on it so far. Thanks--Leamarie411x2 22:48, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel I added a ton of book, movie, and music userboxes. Could you put them into a Books table, a Movie table, and a Music table for me? That would be much appreciated! (HSM and red/blue Narnia go in movies. The flute can stay where it is.)--165.154.18.152 00:04, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel I'd really like it if you could check out my sandboxUser:Leamarie411x2/Sandbox and post your opinion on my talk page! Thanks,Leamarie411x2 22:19, 3 December 2007 (UTC)22:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Leamarie! I took a look, it needs to be formatted per the manual of style, and it would be best if the citations were put into templates for standardization, and to explain what the pages are. The awards would need to be cited, to be able to verify them, but it looks fairly good for a beginning stub. I'd suggest working on it in userspace, before moving it to article space to avoid possible deletion, but the person does appear to be notable. Cheers! ArielGold 22:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

tumor growth factor

I suggested a redirect of "tumor growth factor" to "transforming growth factor" in the articles for creation page. Somebody had changed the "tumor growth factor" title to "tumor Ichy" instead, causing you to reject my page suggestion. In this case, is it correct to re-submit the redirect on the articles for creation page? Should I be using another page to do this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.174.87.104 (talk) 18:59, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Ahhh, that explains why I was unable to verify the name, lol. I'm not sure who changed it, probably someone experimenting, but that definitely makes more sense. I'll create the redirect and change the submission. Thank you, and sorry that someone did that. Cheers! ArielGold 19:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Peterjohnbrennan, more socks

Hi ArielGold. I just notice you tag User:Franz Anton Basch as a sockpuppet, and thought you should know about this, if you don't already. -- zzuuzz (talk) 01:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey Zzuuzz! I didn't know you'd done that, lol. I filed the Checkuser case tonight for the newest spurt on the Guy Sebastian articles, after compiling some initial evidence, and the case found all those new ones, so the underlying IP was blocked. We tagged all the accounts after checking to see which was the oldest, to know who was puppetmaster. That's interesting to know it spilled over into other areas back in August. The accounts Alison found were created in spurts, with 5-6 accounts created on a single day, as sleepers, and to evade blocks. I tried to go forward in the history, but did not find the result, was the checkuser done for that IP, do you remember? ArielGold 01:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Ariel, please explain to me how I "vandalized" Dinant by adding "See Rape of Belgium". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.20.216.186 (talk) 06:23, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

See the note I left on your talk page. "See also" sections are done differently. It was my mistake that I referred to it as vandalism, and I left a note in the history to reflect that, and removed my notice from your talk page. But, I hope you can understand how both the bot, and any real editor, would see an IP adding "Rape of..." and see it as an unconstructive edit, if they knew nothing about the subject. I took the time to look at your contributions, and realized what you were trying to do, so I fixed my mistake. Sorry again, Cheers, ArielGold 06:29, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Admin

Hi Ariel. Have you ever considered standing for adminship? I just noticed that WP:RFA is empty and thought to myself who do I know who might make a good candidate? Obviously, since I'm here, you're one of the people that came to mind. At quick look at your contributions didn't change my mind. The only potential problems I saw are that you haven't been an active editor for as long as some RFA regulars may want and some users prefer users who are article writers. If you want me to nominate you, I'd be glad to, though I would want to look at your contributions a bit more (drug testing and taking a polygraph are optional). Note that the RFA process can be quite harsh. Do not hesitate to decline for any reason, including that you want someone else you know better to nominate you.--Fuhghettaboutit 01:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Ohhh one of my favorite admins, and favorite usernames! (I laugh a little every time I run across you, so thank you for that!) Yes, this issue has actually been discussed with me before I am most honored that you've got confidence in me. I have waited for a month, hoping that Phaedriel would return to do my nomination (she wished to do it), but it appears she may be wiki-breaking for a while. As for article writing, I've written several GAs, and have two other GAs that I've helped, as well as being the major contributor to multiple articles (see userpage for a list) but yes, the edit distribution is due to the fact that A.) I "lurked" to learn policy/guidelines prior to digging my heels in, and B.) I retired this summer, so my time is all mine now, and I've chosen to spend it here. ~*Grin*~ I highly respect you, and appreciate your confidence. I will let you know what I decide, if you wish, there are several others who have expressed interest in a nomination for me as well, so if Phaedriel cannot do it, I will have to make a decision. Thanks Fuhghettaboutit! ArielGold 01:44, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Now look, flattery will get you everywhere. "Highly respected;" "favorite admins;" thems be fighting words. Thanks for that:-) And I'm also glad my username tickles you. There's no hurry so mull as long as you'd like—I'm not going anywhere (you should also take your time writing your "acceptance speech," regardless of who nominates you). Bad form that I didn't look carefully enough to see the contribution list right smack on your userpage (I looked at the links at the top and didn't see the category (though I did run you through the Wannabe Kate editcount shredder). Again, take your time.--Fuhghettaboutit 02:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I think if she archived all the discussions about adminship separately, it would still make a healthy archive :)  — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 07:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Might take two different ones actually... ;) Jmlk17 12:32, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I think if you counted all the editors who have offered to nom her as support votes, it would be a snowball success. LaraLove 16:29, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. Screw RFA. Let's just contact a steward or bureaucrat and explain why WP:SNOW applies.--Fuhghettaboutit 16:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Hahahha, um... yeah, somehow I don't think that's something likely to happen, lol. Thanks all of you for your confidence, it does mean a lot to me, I hope you all know that. ~*Hugs*~ ArielGold 16:58, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Even though I don't know that much about admins, I think you should definately be nominated, Ariel.--Leamarie411x2 17:14, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Heheh thanks Leamarie ArielGold 19:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

New user could use your help

What’s your take on this?

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:Contributions/Lblinn

see help desk entry and Girl Guides of Canada. She blanked a page, is representing an org, and oh yes, Guiding is part of Scouting. RlevseTalk 20:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I posted to help desk, and added more information for the editor on their talk page. Indeed, since she gave her "title" as "Marketing Co-ordinator Marketing & Strategic Alliances", there is a definite COI here. I suggested that she refrain from editing, and use the discussion page to suggest changes, allowing a neutral non-involved editor to implement them. The other issue was that her entries were blatant copyright violations from the organization's site, so I have again reverted to the version you reverted to earlier, and explained to her why that is not something Wikipedia can allow. I hope that helps! ArielGold 21:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Odd happenings...

Have you had any odd happenings on WP lately? During the last hour I had a requested page come up blank (like a blank page), a bot adding my name again after I signed with the 4~, and finally my computer froze solid in the middle of an edit. Odd. Hope you're keeping amused - and warm. ~*Hug*~, Shir-El too 02:12, 5 December 2007 (UTC) PS my Username doesn't appear in purple like it did. What gives?

Hrmmm, I had some funkiness with templates the other day, but nothing I've noticed today. But, with regards to your signature, have you changed it in "my preferences"? Did you check the "raw" box, but have no signature there? It isn't linking to your page, so something happened with it. I'll check to see if that's something happening to others, but I haven't noticed it. ArielGold 02:16, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
BTW I want to substantially re-write the article on the Hell Fire Club and Sir Francis Dashwood based on the book by Daniel P. Mannix. His version of events and chronology substantially differ from the present article. What do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shir-El too (talkcontribs) 02:21, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
You were right, the Raw Signature box was checked - but I didn't check it! I know: last time I was there to enable e-mails and left that box ALONE. I disabled e-mail communication just now: it seems awfully one -sided when one party is revealed while the other is concealed. What kind of confidentiality is that? My bedtime now; will be back when I can. Stay ~*WARM*~, Shir-El too (talk) 02:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Just so you know, if I email you from Wikipedia, I do not know your email address. But yes, you would know mine, as it would be revealed since I was the one who emailed you. But the only way I would know yours, is if you were to either email me from Wikipedia, or reply to my email to you. This is why it is best to reply to someone you do not know on their talk page, or not at all, so you can keep your email address private. Either that, or get a gmail address to use only with Wikipedia. :) And yes, it is very cold here, too. Blah. 20 degrees (f) or so, and 6 inches of snow. Brrrr. Glad you got your signature fixed. ;) As to those two articles, I honestly don't know a thing about them. But as long as reliable sources can be found, I don't see why you can't re-write them. :) ArielGold 02:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Designing...

I hear, from a reputable source, that you did a remarkable job sprucing up his talk page with a bit of creativity and so on and so forth! I'm not asking - indeed, I can't offer anything in return - but if it's something you enjoy, would you perhaps consider taking a quick look at my userpage? Let me know if you fancy a new project :-) Thanks for listening, Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 06:20, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, I do fancy a new project! All I will need to know is what color scheme you prefer, and if there is anything special you'd like, such as a central focus picture, and if you'd like to have your awards in a subpage or if you'd like them on the userpage as they are. It is all up to you, but I could certainly do whatever you wish, with a little direction as to your preferences. Let me know! ArielGold 06:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Colours? Up to you, but I'm in the Royal Navy, so basing it around Image:UK-Navy-OF1.svg would be wonderful, or at least having that displayed somewhere visible, but not as the main focus of things. Having the awards on a subpage would be a better idea, I think too, so that there's a bit more space for me to actually tell people who I am and what I do! Three key words for you: crisp, professional, naval. I am notoriously bad at being creative, so I am afraid I can do no better than throw words like that at you. I look at your 'Navigation bar' at the top of your userpage, however, and I find myself pining for a similar one (But without the purple flower, obviously). Other than that, go wild. But professionally so. And thankyou! Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 08:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
No purple flowers!? AHHHHH! ~*Giggle*~ No problem. I was thinking of a navbar for you as well, and I'm sure that I can come up with some naval themes, or at the least, something more masculine and crisp. While I'm obviously not a minimalist with my own design, I've done many other editors' pages, and some are quite minimalistic (User:Eliz81, User:Jakew, User:NancyHeise, User:Timotab, User:Marci Bowers Helper, User:Jreferee, User:Dreadstar, User:Kaeso Dio, User talk:SQL, and others that I've just forgotten at the moment, lol.) I'm going to sleep on it, as it is bedtime for me, and I need to think of a nice design, but I'm leaning towards something similar to this with a different color scheme, as that's a really nice, minimalistic, clean layout. Take a peek at the rest and if there's anything you like, or hate, let me know, and I'll get to work on it tomorrow. Night night! ArielGold 08:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Ariel is very good ;) Thanks for the smile as well :) Tiddly-Tom 19:02, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
User:Dreadstar is quite nice, and User:Tiddly Tom has a lovely colour scheme... please know, however, that I'm not a minimalist either! I sort of want some space to talk about me, and things I like, and what I'm good at, and so on and so forth. Professional - but not minimalist per se. I don't know, have a play! Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:44, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Yep, I'm working on it, I had to go run errands, but your scheme will be gold and black, and there will be plenty of information for you to write whatever you like. I've written a bit for you, just to make it have something, but you'll be able to add whatever else you wish. I'm working on the navigation bar now. ArielGold 23:49, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
