I saw you were curious about your success rate on AIV at User_talk:Flyguy649#Hey.2C_I_have_an_off_the_wall_question. I ran my tool on you and it gives only three removals without block from you 87 reports since January 3rd(when the tool reads back too). This is a very good record, I know of at least one admin right now who had a 34% failure rate prior to becoming an admin(though this is a poor standard to judge yourself by).
Wow, that is super awesome that your tool is working! 96.5% success rate isn't too shabby, lol. I sort of see AIV as a real last resort, so I'm glad to see that I'm correct the majority of the time when reporting. And just a super job on that tool, that's going to come in very handy I'm sure in the future! Thank you Until! Ariel♥Gold06:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, that was very beautiful, I'll remember it. I see you're also taking up mentoring (adopting); these skills are useful there, you're adoptees have someone to turn to ^^. Also it was both actually, I have lot's to do this week. Ciao Bali Talk21:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Howdy
How goes it? Havent spoken in a while. Happy 50th anniversary of the Sputnik launch... The soviets did something right at least lol. (♠Murchy♠) 11:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Woo hoo! Watching live interviews from KSC as I type, they're interviewing Andy Thomas on the 50th anniversary. Pretty wild it has been that long. Sheesh. Good to hear from you! Ariel♥Gold11:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I knew about that when it went up. No big deal, I have no real opinion. Doesn't bother me either way, lol. Ariel♥Gold12:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Sig Question
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but why is the Talk in my sig not a link to my talk page? It seems like I'm doing it exactly the same way you and other people have yours set up... I must be missing something! AvruchTalk01:44, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi Avruch, a page cannot link to itself, so you'll see here, that the "Gold" of my last name, is not a link, just as your talk will not be a link when on your own talk page, and they may appear bold, because it shows you're on the page the link goes to. Hope that helps explain it! (Similarly, if you're on your userpage, you will see that Avruch doesn't link. Test it out, it is kind of a cool feature!) Ariel♥Gold01:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, it isn't really so obvious because it isn't explained anywhere when you make your signature (that I've noticed, anyway). Once you realize it, naturally it makes sense, but trust me, I spent probably 5+ hours or more messing with my sig thinking it was broken for this same exact reason years ago, so don't feel bad! Ariel♥Gold01:55, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't know, really. I don't do audio stuff online (or anything that requires an external application, lol), so I don't know what those end up sounding like. But hey, if you want to, go for it. Although it may be hard to put the proper shock and awe into your voice when you read his reaction to the Vanguard launch attempt, LOL. I mean, it was way sad, but can you imagine reporting on that, from his point of view, he's so enthusiastic, reporting on this huge event, and then after 4 seconds... its gone, over. Failed. That had to be just, well, I mean, it was probably less than 4 seconds, but he talks really fast when stuff is happening, so the commentary as it shows sounds longer, but still, would be kinda hard to reproduce, lol. Of course, again I really don't know what spoken articles are supposed to be like, so hey, maybe you skip quotes and stuff, I dunno. I'm working on another bio article this morning on a conservationist, hee hee. Ariel♥Gold11:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Mm, yah, I wondered over that; Technically speaking, you're not supposed to dramatize the readings, just read. It's more difficult than it sounds. Do you have an article without the dramatic quotes that you could recommend me to cut my teeth on? Into The FrayT/C11:25, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually, you may not want to do that one, as it isn't really finished. It would end up being a lot different I imagine once it is finished. Hrmm... I dunno offhand. Ariel♥Gold11:46, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Mm. Maybe I'll aim for something more established like Alan Shepherd or Buzz Aldrin, things in progress are apt to need frequent changes. I like the idea of starting in the Space project and was fishing around to look for something to cut my teeth on. It would be fun to mix a reading of Barbree's article if there's a public domain version of his broadcast at Vanguard, but that doesn't strike me as likely and attribution would be difficult. Wait...wait. Who was the guy who was mission flight director for a long time? Blunt-speaking guy. He's been on a lot of documentaries about space missions. I want to say that he was Mission Flight Director for Apollo 13, maybe. *lip chew, scurries off to look around* Into The FrayT/C11:55, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Hee! Sorry 'bout that, and sorry to bug ya. Just lookin' for someone to bounce ideas off of, for which you're a popular target 'round these parts. No coincidence that, 'cause you're the awesomeest. Or, as I would have it, u roxors. And, as an added bonus, Krantz is from Toledo, which is my hometown. So. All is well. Thank you! Into The FrayT/C12:01, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey, you're never "bothering" me, ever! And you're more than welcome to bounce ideas off me, I don't know if I'm much help some of the time, but I'm around for you to do it just the same! Krantz is a pretty awesome guy, and there are tons of NASA items on him that would be available via the public domain license, so I'm sure you'll find a ton of stuff, even probably audio recordings. Ariel♥Gold12:05, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Both, yes. Sound files can be added to pages, but the soundbite would have to be found first, and be under public domain. Since he was not working for NASA, the copyright would be owned by the radio station he was working for at the time, and unless it has been released to NASA, may not be in public domain (50ish years ago, not sure what the time required for public domain on sound files is). Ariel♥Gold13:44, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
If it exists, would it not come under fair use? After all, TV/radio stations use soundbites from elsewhere all the time. And for a fair use rationale, no free version of the live reaction could be found, and the soundbite does improve the listener's understanding of the subject. Just a thought. — TimotabTimothy (not Tim dagnabbit!)13:47, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
True, and good point. Hrmmm... I'd actually think that NASA would have that archived somewhere. As for how to embed the sound files, they are little tiny boxes on a page, placed at the bottom, that clicking them launches the file hosted on Wikipedia. I can't think of an article off the top of my head to show you an example of what they look like, but next time I find one I'll show you. (And good morning Timothy!) Ariel♥Gold13:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee yes, thank you! I didn't see you were around or I would have asked you to test it, lol. I changed it to a lime green bar with a bright blue border, pretty vibrant! Hee hee. Thanks dear! Ariel♥Goldat 09:10, October 5, 2007
Wikitarded
User:68.143.88.2, who is involved in the discussion on wikitarded's username has some troubling interactions with other users on the talk page for 68.143.88.2. If they are the same person , then I would be concerned. If the user is the same person, and cvan be encouraged to make good contributions than I think he will be an asset to the project. I the interactions will be like the ones 68.143.88.2 is having, well, the user name discussion will be the least of his troublesDie4Dixie18:27, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I did notice this as well. Their history is not exactly spotless, lol. The truth is, whether you or I, or an admin thinks a username is a violation, is not going to matter. I doubt the name will be unblocked, and I don't think it should be. (That's just my own personal opinion, not because I am personally offended by it, but because I realize that others will be, and it would be an issue with harmony.) AGF doesn't extend to usernames, (or so I've been told, although I do tend to AGF with most usernames unless blatant), so I think the editor should just make a new name and move on. If the IP and that username are one and the same person, and their recent flurry of posts following the block of that username is interesting in that respect, it seems to me that if they wish to improve the encyclopedia, arguing like they're doing back and forth, isn't really helpful. Again, that's just my impression though. ~*Shrug*~ Ariel♥Gold18:46, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

The three-month long Summer Assessment Drive, organized by Psychless, was a huge success! It ran from June 1 – September 1, and reduced the backlog of unassessed articles from 113,385 to 56,237. In all, over 100,000 articles were assessed. Over 60 people contributed in some way.
A barnstar has been created for exceptional work on Wikipedia biographies and for assisting the project. The Biography Barnstar is listed with the other WikiProject awards and can be awarded easily with a template. See the template page for more details.
The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below)
We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future.
This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page

Please stop suggesting usurpation
Please stop recommending that new users, requesting accounts, should request usurpation. This option is only open to established users - according to WP:CHUG:
To ensure that good use is made of popular usernames, usurpation is reserved for established users. It is expected that an account requesting usurpation will have existed for several months and made non-trivial contributions to the encyclopedia.
May have been me; I've mentioned it before at WP:ACC, I know, but I believe the last time I did, I added the caveat that they would probably have to create an account and establish themself before the 'crats would honor a request. Into The FrayT/C12:05, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Fixing Benazir Bhutto photo?
Hi. I noticed that you had some interest in the woman article. Given that Bhutto is slated to return as PM of Pakistan, I tried to upload her picture. By the looks of your page, I presume that you are savvy with photo uploading. Would you know how to fix my attempt to upload her picture? Thanks. Dogru14400:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
This image link has been fixed on the woman page. The image file is named "Benair Bhutto.jpg", not "Benazir01.jpg", so you have to use the former in the Image link. --MikeVitale00:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing that Mike. I don't think I've ever edited that article, unless it was to revert vandalism, so I'd have been pretty clueless, lol. Thanks. Ariel♥Gold04:02, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
It was really just a matter of renaming the image on the woman page. No special knowledge of either article needed, per se. :) --MikeVitale15:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I had my sig pointing to only my talk page for quite some time. I believe it's the more relevant link. If and when someone wants to know more about me, they know where to find it anyway. (that, and the shortness of the wikicode as I explained earlier, to avoid cluttering the wikicode of talk pages with a long signature code.) — Dorftrottel, was: aldebaer 14:50, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I know my code is long-ish. But what matters more (to me) is that it isn't overly distracting or long in the display. The code itself, is three lines, I've tried trimming it, but I think having it link to my contribs is a good thing, but yes, it is long in the edit box, lol. Ariel♥Gold15:02, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

LOL Don't say "nevermind", hee hee, I know what you mean! And I agree that long code is a headache when trying to post on long pages, including mine. I'm thinking about ways to shorten it, lol. Ariel♥Gold15:27, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Makeing a bold suggestion, I say I would omit the heart character first thing. But don't listen to me, I guess I'm somewhat biased against heart characters in general... — Dorftrottel16:36, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Omigosh you want to cut out my heart! ~*Giggle*~ Actually, one character won't make much of a difference, and it is very "girlie" which is why I use it. I'm thinking perhaps moving the special contributions link (that is the heart) to my first name, and leaving the heart without a link. That would eliminate quite a few characters, but leave my userpage unlinked, which as you said isn't a huge deal. It's not that I don't understand your opinion, and even respect it, I hope you know I do, it just is that to me I guess it isn't a top pet peeve, lol. ~*Hugs*~ Ariel♥Gold16:42, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Now that you mention it, it probably is sort of a pet peeve of mine... curious, who'd have thunk it? — Dorftrottel17:00, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

It seems there is a movement towards allowing all sorts of usernames I'd consider violations (and not because they offend me, but because they prevent harmonious editing by hundreds of thousands of editors). While I understand leniency, I think that people are forgetting that so many editors work on this project, if ten people find a name offensive, and one doesn't, it gives a good indication that the majority of editors would be offended. I understand the reasons for those who are more liberal and lenient, but I think that the harmonious editing of so many people is what should be considered, more than a single person's personal views. We shall see, but I just have a feeling... Ariel♥Gold08:39, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, then it will be very interesting indeed! As for the other, there's a good editor with the username User:Murderbike, so prolly just the word murder isn't too bad...but if it's used poorly then it would be bad. Dreadstar†08:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, that's a bit different, a bike that's "murderous" means "evil, awesome, killer" etc., but to say "I am a murderer", that's referring to real-life violence, no question about it. I considered leaving a username concern template, but decided to watch to see if they edit first. Pointless if they never bother to edit, I guess. Ariel♥Gold08:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Sometimes, I don't mind being wrong: 06:12, October 8, 2007 Illinois Nazi (blocked indef by Rlevse (ABD)). 1 comment(s) removed.) Another editor had commented agreeing the name was completely inappropriate, so we're both right, thanks my dear M&PLD, MD, EF, KKJ, BS & AE! Ariel♥Gold10:26, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, thank you, m'lady, this was a great learning experience for me! Next time I'll know and we'll take care of those inappropriate user names! Way cool! Dreadstar†16:08, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi
Hi Ariel, thanks for your note, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. At the moment I seem to be either a) working, or b) exhausted from too much work. Unfortunately I'm only able to do the absolute bare minimum of Wikiing as a result. :( Hopefully things will change in a few weeks. Best, Jakew10:55, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Awww, poor Jake! Well I'm glad to know you're okay, busy, but doing okay. I hope that stuff calms down for you soon! Drop me a note when you have time! Ariel♥Gold11:01, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I see that you've followed in my footsteps on the DAB page for screws. I assume that you have read User_talk:GM_Chrysler, whom I suspect of also being User:142.176.114.105. As I stated on GM Chrysler's userpage, I personally don't have a problem with dropping f-bombs IRL, but I think that unless it's truly necessary on this encyclopedia for context, alternate language should be employed...Not for any kind of censorship, but more for professionalism. To that end, the user has removed alternate text that I (IMHO, and I realize all that goes along with that) find more acceptable, that of "Slang for sexual intercourse".
Also, as far as I can tell, it is perfectly acceptable for DAB pages to have sub-list-elements. Reference Tanker and Mutual. When two topics are related (as are Screw (simple machine) and Archimedes' screw), then indentation or sub-list-elements appear to be called for. In this case, that association has been broken. --MikeVitale13:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, okay well that's just because I have no idea what an Archimedes' screw is, lol. I'd honestly never seen a disambig page with sub sections but it makes sense when you put it that way, so I'll go ahead and revert to your earlier version. I agree that there is really no valid reason to use the F-word rather than "Sexual intercourse" which is the exact same thing. Ariel♥Gold13:14, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
And you know, I'm leaning towards a WP:UAA anyway. Per WP:U: "Usernames that match the name of a company or group". Granted, the user has not purported to be affiliated, but just the name recognition alone is probably not acceptable. I'm going to ask for another opinion, but I'm leaning towards reporting it. Ariel♥Gold13:19, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Heh, and I was considering asking for an IPCheck on the username vs. the IP address as I mentioned above. I had forgotten about that part of the UAA policy. --MikeVitale13:21, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Eh, I doubt a checkuser request would get approved at this point. But I'll have to find an admin online to ask about the name. Ariel♥Gold13:23, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I've tried bumping the question to an admin who is usually active on WP:UAA. He last edited a few minutes ago. In a bit, if I see no signs of activity and have to presume I caught him just as he was going offline, I'll look for another. It seems inappropriate to me, but my experience implementing username policy is limited. :) --Moonriddengirl13:57, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
All right. If I get no response from Rlevse within another few minutes, I'll let him know that I've sought an online admin and head over there. :) --Moonriddengirl14:01, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Rlevse thinks to use a request to change name, and then RFCN if he refuses. I don't suppose you'd want to do that would you? LOL. Ariel♥Gold14:05, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
reset indent I'll happily follow through. You've already engaged him on the other issues, so an uninvolved editor on the name is probably a good approach. --Moonriddengirl14:08, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
No thanks, I prefer my sig simple and readable. Honestly, though, I've been on Wikipedia for nearly two years now, so I ought to have realised. I've been using a raw sig on my main account for ages! Incidentally, how did you notify me on my talk page that you had replied here? That's kinda neat and would make things easier for me.--Voxpuppet (talk • contribs) 13:46, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, it is a take on a template that is used, that I customized. The blue one is at {{talkback}} and the format is {{talkback|threadname|yourname}} (you just put your name, not the User: part in the name field, but for the thread name, you'll need to use the full thing, such as User:ArielGold#My signature... but without brackets. You can experiment here if you want to try it out). And no problem on the sig thing, not everyone wants colored signatures and that's totally cool. Ariel♥Gold13:49, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, the small talkback template is wrong, then lol. The thread is in the middle, and username goes at the end. At least for the smaller version I was using that I customized. I know because I really botched a few of them doing it how they said it was done, lol. (The smaller version doesn't have instructions, so I went off the talkback one, and evidently they are made differently.) Good morning Timothy dear! Ariel♥Gold14:35, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Ready and willing
I answered your note at my page because that seems to be your Operating Style. :) But I figured I'd let you know that I did here, thereby rendering completely useless my effort to honor your usual style. --Moonriddengirl13:43, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Well, in all fairness, I seem to not be consistent. There are some folks I know will check back here, and others I know will reply on their own talk pages, so... this all combines to make me rather unpredictable, lol. Either way, feel free to reply to the above thread for Mike to see as well, hee hee. And thanks! Ariel♥Gold13:46, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I forgot to thank you
Ariel, thanks for coming to Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami and giving me your comments. I eventually did eliminate most of those references and am in the process of cleaning up all the references. Thanks for taking the time to come and lend an educated eye to the page. NancyHeise14:37, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I just popped over and took a real quick look earlier, when I offered my opinion. I understand wanting to have tons of citations, but when they're placed all in a row (instead of after the specific sentence they reference) it is highly visually distracting, and not something you'll find with good or featured articles. I went back and checked on the review earlier today, and the suggestions there are all spot on, the references still need a bit of work. However, all of that being said, I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever, that you'll be able to resolve the issues! I also would echo the reviewers suggestion to use the template for citations fully, adding in the author, publisher, title, date of publishing, etc. That information is just really helpful to readers. Anyway holler if you need anything else! (And you don't need to thank me, hee hee, I'm happy to help!) Ariel♥Gold14:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Ariel, I am doing what he said to do to eliminate the repeating of the references but when I do that it messes up the reference. Can you do just one of the references the way he wants them done so I can copy and paste that one for the rest of the references. I can do the whole page if I can just get the first one to work. I can not figure that out yet. I have to go back now and undo my last edit because it created a mess on the page. Also, feel free to fix my user page any way you like. Thanks for being my special person to help me with this project. I don't know if you are a religious person but I am saying in my heart every time you help me "God bless this lady!" NancyHeise14:59, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay give me a few minutes to go read what he's talking about and see what you're doing. I'm going to get a cup of tea first for this, hee hee. Ariel♥Gold15:07, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Ariel, I found an example I can work off of. Dont spend your time on this, I think I can do it now. I have been using the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago as an example to follow since it has been awarded WP:GA. One of the references (number 6) has the format that Dr. Cash is talking about. I am going to copy and paste that format and see what happens. I can do this now. Thanks for your help!72.144.30.8416:01, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Ariel, I see what you did and am going to copy that for the rest of the references that are multiple. Thanks for coming to the rescue again. (and again and again) NancyHeise16:25, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Anytime, my pleasure! I also left a pretty good explanation on the article's talk page about how to do those multiple refs, but feel free to holler if you get stuck! Ariel♥Gold16:27, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Cool, because I still didn't know who it was after you explained it, lol. I don't know anything about Japanese cartoon stuff, sorry! Ariel♥Gold18:59, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
*Gasp* Japanese cartoon stuff? Oh dear. Next think you know, you'll be calling Science Fiction Sci-Fi and belittling the Lord of the Rings as "that Dungeons & Dragons stuff". Teasing, Into The FrayT/C21:08, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Question
Hey Ariel— what's your opinion on this name? I ask because that's the real life name of, as well as similiar to the user name of, Jdforrester, an Arbitrator and the standard accompanying access levels. I'm suprised that this hasn't been a problem already, especially because Kirill Lokshin, another Arb, commented on his talk page, and should probably have picked up on it, leading me to wonder if it isn't a problem after all. Thoughts? isaid04:39, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Pardon the butt-in, but I think it's different enough. It's a reasonably common name. However, you may want to ask Jdforrester's opinion. It may be that he (James D. Forrester) can just use a hatnote on his user page to state that he isn't Jdforrester. -- Flyguy649talkcontribs04:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, as for it being similar to Jdforrester, I don't think it would be considered similar. "Similar" with usernames refers to similar content, not context. So yes, it is the same last name, but the username itself is not remotely similar. I'm sure James Forrester is a pretty common name, and I don't think that we could ask someone to rename just because another editor has the same first and last name, (even though they don't use the first name in their username). His contributions show a knowledge of the project, and are useful, so I'm not sure I'd do anything about it. He isn't identifying himself as being the same person, and Jdforrester's signature is "James F.", so, well I guess personally don't see a problem. You may want to run it by Flyguy AD though, they've probably run into same-name type issues more than I have. Sorry that's probably not much help, lol Ariel♥Gold04:53, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, edit conflict and it is as if Flyguy was reading my mind! And I'm pretty sure Flyguy meant the hatnote would say he's not James D. Forrester, lol. Ariel♥Gold04:55, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Eah. I guess it's not that big of a deal. It was just that they have the exact same name, and Jdforrester is a well known figure. Thanks! isaid01:47, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh ye Ariel, source of great information and the owner of a much-watched talk page...
I didn't just pop over today to tease you. I've also come to tap your brain, or the brain of anyone watching here. User:Labs1950 has uploaded some photographs of paintings and I believe that's a copyvio . . but, I'm not strong in that area. So. Um. Do you know? Can I take a photograph of an otherwise copyrighted painting and in that way dodge the copyright...? Strikes me as...no. But, hey, I've been wrong before. Just once. Cheers, Into The FrayT/C21:11, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I, too, have been wrong once before. However, if the painting is copyrighted (and that copyright is still enforceable), then what's the difference between taking a picture of said painting, and taking a picture of your television in order to get a "screen capture"? I would say there's no difference (aside from quality, perhaps.) Television stations aggressively enforce their copyright over screencap-type contents, and those are acknowledged as not allowed on WP. --MikeVitale22:12, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Works which contain other copyrighted works (derivative works) - these are not permitted, so don't upload them!
Screenshots of TV shows, movies, DVDs, and software.
Photographs of art, statues, commercial packaging and often toys.
Drawings of copyrighted characters from TV, Comics, or Movies, even if you drew them yourself.
Now, keep in mind that commons is for free images only, so no fair use rationale can apply, but if the uploader is claiming to be releasing it under a free license, he's wrong (unless the artwork, such as the Mona Lisa, is out of copyright and in PD. — TimotabTimothy (not Tim dagnabbit!)02:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, this is not an area I really have a ton of experience in, (images), but per the WP:IUP:
User created images
Such images can include photographs which you yourself took (remember that rights to images generally lie with the photographer, not the subject)
Photographs of three-dimensional objects almost always generate a new copyright, though others may continue to hold copyright in items depicted in such photographs. Photographs of two-dimensional objects (such as paintings in a museum) often do not.
Also note that in the United States, reproductions of two-dimensional artwork which is in the public domain because of age do not generate a new copyright — for example, a straight-on photograph of the Mona Lisa would not be considered copyrighted.
So, generally speaking, photgraphs of old, old paintings are probably acceptable, but if these are photographs of paintings from a recent era artist, and the uploader claims them to be his own work, he's wrong, per the IUP, and Timothy's link above, and Timothy hit it right on the head. And thank you Mike, and Timothy, for being here while I was sleeping! You guys rock! Ariel♥Gold05:17, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I see... sure it is a good thing to have a contributors category and also a user's category. I think we can rename the Category: User KIS to Category:Wikipedians with Keep It Simple layouts and create a Category:WikiProject Keep It Simple Participants, what do you think? ℒibrarian212:04, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, I think we could leave the current category name, and just add another one. Let me think about it, the category name should ideally be short. I'll ponder this. :) Ariel♥Gold12:06, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
They want to change User KIS for sure, and about a members cat they say it must include "participants" as per policy. See if you like or feel free to change it as you can like it most :) {{WP KIS}} adds to [[Category:WikiProject Keep It Simple participants]] ℒibrarian212:53, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
That looks fine, but who else wanted this? I don't see anyone besides me and Hertz commenting on it, lol. If you don't feel it is needed, that's okay too. :) Ariel♥Gold12:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
No, I want it too and just asked Jakew as well. I am sure that future contributors will want it also. I also made this box for who likes boxes: but I don't know why the frame doesn't show :( ℒibrarian213:24, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, yeah that box needs some work. I have to go talk to my accountant (darn taxes due in 5 days) but when I get back I'll work on that, k? :) Ariel♥Gold13:26, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I searched the awards page and found just the right one for you. Thanks for being a tremendous help and taking time to educate me in the ways of Wiki editing. If the Archdiocese page makes it to Good Article, it is only because of your help. Thanks Ariel. NancyHeise04:10, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL Thanks Nancy, I hope the article does make it to GA, you've put so much work into it, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Ariel♥Gold11:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure either. Must be some sort of similar project like KIS in the past? I dunno. I asked for the history, but I can't fix whatever coding problems there are, after Jake took over all the coding, I don't have a clue how it works anymore. Sorry :( Ariel♥Gold11:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I am sorry you felt it necessary not to support my RfA at this time. As you probably know, my RfA did not succeed. I will attempt to get some more experience and diversify myself before applying again in two month's time. I hope I will have allayed your concerns by then, but if not, feel free to comment the way you feel you should. Thank you for participating in my RfA. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn)18:17, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey Cobi! I'm really sorry it wasn't successful, truly I am. I remained neutral simply because I spent a very, very long time learning things, and every day, I'm still amazed by the depth of Wikipedia's infrastructure, and I find new areas still after two+ years. I honestly have no doubt that you'd be super-awesome at AIV, but I was simply concerned that you get a little more one-on-one time with editors, conflict resolution, that kind of thing, because once you're handing out blocks, I have a feeling you'll have a lot more conflict lol. I truly think you're a great editor, and a huge asset to the project, and I have no doubts whatsoever that in a month or two, I'll be supporting you instead of remaining neutral. And if you've ever got a question or need any help and can't find anyone else online, check me, I'm on a lot! lol. Ariel♥Gold18:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
The article was re-created after that AfD, using the recommendations given by the closing administrator. Just because an article in poor condition is deleted via AfD, does not mean it cannot be re-created again with proper style and citations, and if it is, a CSD tag for "recreation" is not valid. The problems with the article back when it was deleted was it was written like a resume, and not an encyclopedic entry. This current article has been reviewed by administrators and bureaucrats, and does not qualify for CSD. You're free to put an AfD tag on it if you like, but it isn't an automatic CSD just because a previous, poor form of it was deleted via AfD. Ariel♥Gold20:21, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Note that "recreation" is not the same as "repost". An article is fair game for CSD provided the copy is substantially identical to the deleted version and that any changes in the recreated page do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted.[3], but that doesn't apply in this case. — TimotabTimothy (not Tim dagnabbit!)20:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you so much for always having my "back" so to speak, for keeping an eye on my talk page when I'm not around. Honestly, I appreciate it so much, and you're just such an awesome editor and vandal fighter, I can't count how many times you've "beaten me" to the revert, lol. I just want you to know how much you are appreciated, and how much good you do. You rock! Ariel♥Gold21:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Heh. No problem. Ignoring of course the giant mistake I made just now, I'm usually pretty good at it. I watch my watchlist somewhat more often than the recent changes, so I tend to pick up on vandalized user-pages a bit more often than most. Thanks for the complements! Gscshoyru21:27, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I saw nothing. And that's hardly "giant", by any means. I was fine with your revert, and just replied on the editor's talk page, it wasn't a big deal at all to me. But, it just reminded me that you're always out there watching over things, and I really appreciate it, as I'm sure others do as well. Ariel♥Gold21:30, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
(ec) Oh, and while we're at it -- you're a pretty awesome person too, at vandal-fighting and whatnot. Besides you're probably on my watchlist because some vandal dislikes you, which is a good sign you've been doing things right :) Gscshoyru21:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, well, it was a big screw up to me. For some reason my troll warning bells were ringing in my head, and that was hardly justified. Gscshoyru21:33, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
No worries at all, dear, and yes, my page has used up its share of Band-Aids, but thankfully, my wiki-friends are around to patch it up nice and pretty, and you can hardly even see the scars! Ariel♥Gold21:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
