Maybe you can help with this
I have been doing a lot of GA Reviews lately and have come across some GA noms that have basically been abandoned by their nominator (hasn't edited since September). I've placed Talkbacks on the appropriate WikiProjects about 5 days ago asking for someone to work with me on them and no bites. Do you know anyone who might be able to work with me on them, I'd review and they could edit? The articles are in pretty decent shape and I think they will qualify but the content needs some adjusting. The article reviews (as much as I can do so far) are: Talk:Leggetts Creek/GA1 & Talk:Eddy Creek (Lackawanna River)/GA1. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 04:51, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, my friend. I really do not know much about GA. I'd suggest posting at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations or Wikipedia:Good article help. Sorry I can't be of help. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:07, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
CU?
Hello Anna - I've just seen the edit history of your talk page and seen yet another possible sock of Profile101. I saw that the account was blocked based on behavioural evidence, but this user's English seems a little better... also, they didn't target a particular non-admin whom they usually target often. Would it be a good idea to run a CheckUser to make sure nobody else is behind this? Thanks in advance, and have a good day. Patient Zerotalk 12:10, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Patient Zero. Maybe that is a good idea. I do not know who it is and I am not a CU. It is best for you to ask someone working the SPI who is a CU and also familiar with p101. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:31, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Just seen this - sorry, I didn't receive your ping. I'll go ahead and do that now. All the best, Patient Zerotalk 11:35, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Just a small request
Hi Anna, hope you've been well. It's been a while since I last came here (apart from the christmas/new year templates). May I just ask, for my user page protection, It was originally protected indefinitely under the "User request within own user space" clause, but I only just realised that when the late JohnCD (I'm sure you've heard the terrible news about his passing) changed the protection level to Extended Confirmed, he accidentally left the reason as "Persistent Sockpuppetry". If you can, can you please change the reason back to "User Request within own Userspace"? Also, I'm not sure if my user page is move protected too, but if it isnt, will you be able to move protect it too or should I go through RFPP. Thanks! Class455 (talk|Stand clear of the doors!) 17:18, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Class455. As it stands now, your page is Edit=Require extended confirmed access (indefinite) Move=Require extended confirmed access (indefinite). To change that to the exact same thing but with a different reason in the summary, I'd have to remove and readd the same protection. Are you sure that is what you want? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:13, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I want. Yes I know it seems weird, but I'd like it so that the reason is specifically clear. Also, if you have time, can you please take a look at a new article i have just created, Southern Railway Strike (2016-17). Thanks!Class455 (talk|stand clear of the doors!) 00:15, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- Done. Now "[Edit=Require extended confirmed access] (indefinite) [Move=Require extended confirmed access] (indefinite) (User Request within own Userspace)" I hope that is okay. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:26, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- I gave the railway article a quick read. Sorry I can't give it a more thorough review. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:37, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thats fine! Thank you, as always. Class455 (talk|stand clear of the doors!) 08:00, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Hamster stink
If the hamsters force you to open the windows, I suggest creating a "hamster box", which is ventilated to the outside, not into the house. If that makes it too cold in there, you can add an incandescent light bulb to heat it up. StuRat (talk) 06:30, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
- Good idea, Stu. I'll raise it and see what others say. And there's no worry about too cold. Winter here is short and like a New York November, and hamsters like it cold anyhow. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:25, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
- As for how to do it, maybe crack the window open, place the hamster box near it, and seal the part of the box not touching the window, and seal the rest of the window crack, using lots of tape and plastic sheets. It will be ugly, but it's only for a month or two, right ? StuRat (talk) 17:42, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
- Good idea again, Stu. I'll suggest it. Hopefully, though, this year won't require it. Many, many thanks for the kind and thoughtful suggestions. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:37, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
- You're welcome. StuRat (talk) 21:44, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Sophie Cruz
Anna, could you please help me to get a photo of Sophie Cruz? Thanks. Gandydancer (talk) 17:36, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Gandydancer. Oooh, that's a tricky one. I don't see a website for her. I usually contact their agent or them directly. Have you tried Flickr for a freebie? I will pour through the commons pics and write to folks at Womensmarch.com. They must have a way to contact her considering she was a featured speaker there. Any other ideas? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:21, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Anna, I did google a photo on her and there are many from when she made such a news splash with Pope Francis, but no Flickers at all. BTW, I have spent more hours than I can count trying to get photos in my articles, some taken with my little Brownie which were deleted because no editor at Commons would believe that I could possibly be that old when I said that I was the photographer. Anna, the older I get and the longer I'm here (10 years) the more sick I get of some things...for example the tags placed on her article. You seem to be so good at going with the flow and I give you a great deal of applause for that. I was rather pissed off at Madonna's speech where she just had to say "fuck" three times and just added, of all people!, Cindi Lauper's comment about it. Good advice, for sure... :) Gandydancer (talk) 19:13, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply, Gandydancer. It is so nice and so appreciated that you make efforts to get photos in articles. I think they are really important and give articles a lot of substance. So, where are all the photos of the speakers at the march? You'd think someone would have taken one of dear Sophie Cruz. As for Madonna's speech, I'm afraid I missed that. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:45, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Sock springs eternal
'Will to meaning' (User talk:Will to meaning) started up after 'Sterilazation by cupcake' was blocked; 157 edits, 11 overlaps with Cupcake, on University of Vermont 'Will' was the next editor following Cupcake. Types of edits and edit summaries are the same. I see that you tried, thank you. I don't believe this editor will stop without meaningful intervention—something we are not equipped to do. The only thing I can think of is to offer a mentorship in copy editing. Which is likely not good for the editor or for building the encyclopedia. I don't offer that myself—can't spell and my copy of Fowler is out of date. User:Neonorange (Phil) — 09:11, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Request for protection of user space pages
Hi Anna, hope you're doing well. Can I please ask for the following pages in my userspace to be indefinitely extended-confirmed protected per "User request within own userspace", just to prevent any vandalism by socks:
- User:Class455/Awards
- User talk:Class455/Editnotice
- User:Class455/Editnotice
- User:Class455/Speedy Deletion log
- User:Class455/PROD log
- User:Class455/London Buses route 434
This saves me having to submit a rather large RFPP request and the team working there would start to wonder why I'm submitting a mass of pages. Thank you very much! Class455 (talk|stand clear of the doors!) 13:12, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Considering that the article is about you, and the links you provide are questionable (see WP:SECONDARY), I suggest posting those links at Talk:Nick Egan with a sentence like "...Here are some links that may help support facts in the article. Need your help for review
Hi Anna Frodesiak. I am Tuan. I just made a new article, title as thapene, a village in Luang Prabang, Laos. I would like to have your support for review and approval. Thank you very much for your constructive advice. Tuan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dttuan (talk • contribs) 01:27, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Tuan, and welcome.
- Wow! That is an impressive article for a brand new editor to create. Putting something like that together in nearly single edit is something we very seldom see.
- Now, to be frank, my first thought was that it may be copy pasted from somewhere. I see you did actually add some copy pasted content to Community forestry. It was removed by User:Diannaa (deletion log). So, I checked. This tool shows bits and pieces that are copy pasted from elsewhere. Then, I just added a random sentence to a search engine and found this:
- I am not sure why the tool did not find that. But, it makes me ask you: how much of this is copy pasted or close paraphrasing? So, I must ask. How much?
- Let's sort out this copy pasting issue first, and then work on the next matters.
- Good morning Anna Frodesiak. Thank for your critical and helpful comments. As a new working on wikipedia, I am happy to learn from your and whoelse helps alots. I will work carefully on this article for improvmenet. Cheers. Tuan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dttuan (talk • contribs) 02:05, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Tuan. Actually, please tell me about the copy pasting. That is very important. How much of this is written by you, and how much is copy pasted from other sources? Please say. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:42, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

- Hi Tuan. So, I see some copy pasting. How much of it is written in your own words. How much is directly copy pasted from sources? Do you understand what "copy pasting" is? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:48, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

- Hi Anna Frodesiak. Now, we could go for each session in the article to know how and what copy / past. History: From my own information I collected and wording with adding sources / links - Geography: From my own information I collected and wording adding sources / links - Ethnicity and demography: From my owon information I collected and wording adding sources / links - Cultural and regional: From my owon information I collected and wording adding sources / links - Ritual ceremonies: All information regarding time of rituals I collected from elders and villagers. Some words I qouted from other sources. Please let me know what parts of words in this article I 'copied' but without sources, I will work on them for improvement.Thanks. Tuan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.160.54.130 (talk) 03:10, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Tuan. I am not sure what you mean by "collected and wording". I am talking about you reading a source and copying the exact same text and putting it into your article. You know the sources and how you wrote it. Did you:
- A: see the source then write from your own mind, your own sentences, and add that new text to the article,
- or,
- B: see the text in the source that someone else wrote, and copy it exactly and add that same text to the article?
- Did you do some "B"? Any? All? Did you write any or all in your own words? Thanks, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:31, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Anna Frodesiak. Here is process of making this article. 1 - Collecting information from the field (in Thapene village). 2 - Writing article from field collected information. 3- adding sources, links and some words form sources, but just only in part of 'Ritual ceremonies'. If it has mistakes from quoting 'words/texts', kindly let me know. Thank. Tuan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dttuan (talk • contribs) 03:41, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

- (talk page watcher) Special:Diff/769378603 is copyvio from ABC. Special:Diff/767258218 could be copied from here or another site with the same summary. — JJMC89 (T·C) 04:41, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. When I first checked the site(s), they looked like some sort of blog or user-edited thing. Yes, this appears to be definite copyvio. Many thanks. I'll let the user know. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:13, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Anna, hope you are good :). Check out UCAV and check to see whether this gells into your stub in any way. I noticed your posting on MILHIST. I know a little about this area and would be happy to help out. Regards, Simon Irondome (talk) 01:33, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Irondome. I'm well, thank you. I hope you are the same. :) Thanks for the link. I've made an edit there just now to add and link drone strike. I also changed at drone strike: Unmanned aerial vehicle --> Unmanned combat aerial vehicle. Please feel free to expand the drone strike article. I am way out of my elephant. :) Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:08, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- I think you are on to something here Anna which could be valuable. The subject is scattered across many articles, even including Artificial Intelligence and ethical issues, of which there are too many to mention in a short post. Unsure of the way forward, but we may have an enhanced article or articles in the making here. You have raised a very important topic which goes beyond merely the tech and current usage of this emergent aspect of warfare. Ground and sea operating UCAVs are also in current deployment by the way. Rise of the machines if we are not very careful in three decades or so.. Si Irondome (talk) 02:29, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- I must agree. Please see the discussion that prompted me to start it: Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science#Military drones and what they do. Now, please do me a favour and ask the first few females that you see. Ask them how a drone strike works. I bet almost all will say that the drone sees something and is flown into it with a warhead on it. In other words, that drones are one-time-use flying bombs. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:56, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- I will ask my significant other tmrw when I see her! I shall report back her answer verbatim. It becomes more problematic when the "person" in the loop is removed. At the moment, the "operator" sees something, etc... Irondome (talk) 14:21, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. I shall await a response on that. As for "operator", yes, and when it comes to "rise of the machines", yes too. I think, if you poll people asking for A or B (A is "We humans will pull out of this death spiral and be okay." or B "The human experiment will end in tears, and we're all going to go off the cliff pretty soon."), the vast majority of people will say B. Odd isn't it? People all have kids with hopeful futures and everyone is just sitting around watching all this happen.) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:37, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- Well I went over to Heather's flat after a crap day. After a welcome cup of tea and some equally welcomed hugs, I broached the question. "What are your thoughts on drone strikes?" - Hi Irondome. Thank you for asking her. I guess that sort of makes the point. There are a lot of people out there who do not know that drones fire missiles. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:15, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

- Hi Adi Narayana, and welcome. Maybe. Do you own the developers? Do you have a connection to the developers? Did the media write about the developers? Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:33, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
No i don't own the real estate developers but it's my friends business,No media didn't write any thing about it but it is officially verified by Google search engine and other real estate portals,if you agree i will just publish its Company Name and it's place of operations and i don't give any extra information on top of that, thank you Adi Narayana (talk) 02:31, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

To Edit Right of abode - Help Desk
Hi Anna Frodesiak! I saw that you rv'd this question on the Help Desk: To Edit Right of Abode with the edit summary: (rv. this has nothing to do with using wikipedia). It takes quite a bold stance to rv an actual question on the Help Desk unless it is blatant vandalism. As I read this, it was a legitimate question regarding editing. Could you please tell me why you chose to rv it? and not simply either direct the editor to the Talk Page Right of abode or allow another editor to answer with a more knowledgeable approach? Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 22:06, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Maineartists. I am sorry. I did not notice the "... in order to edit..." or even that in the title. I wasn't paying attention. I reverted and posted at his talk advising him to use the refdesk. I shall correct things and apologize. Again, I am sorry for my mistake. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:46, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hey, there! No need to apologize. I actually thought I missed something myself. I was reading it, but was afraid I wasn't seeing what you were seeing (which I've been known to do!). That's why I didn't "undo". Thanks for being so open to resolution. I knew it was all in good faith. I was hoping to learn something new; and actually, I did: we still all make mistakes at times and the best way to make amends is simply to restore and redirect. (Between you and me: it was a rather strange Help desk question) Thanks for being who you are! Keep on keeping on & happy editing! Best. PS let's see who actually answers the post! Efc1878
Hi. Are you currently active? I need advice/help from an active administrator regarding an editor, so I am looking for an admin that is currently online and willing to help. I contact you as you are the most recent admin at WP:AIV. Qed237 (talk) 20:26, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- I am here, Qed237. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:29, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Qed237. I do not know if his timestamp edits are appropriate or not. I posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Timestamps. Others should arrive and sort it out. Is this a reasonable approach? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:34, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Thanks. I will make this short, so if you need more information just ask. Basically Efc1878 (talk · contribs · logs · block log) has been editwarring earlier at Séamus Coleman and he was blocked twice. First for initial edit war (example diff) and the for doing the same thing after fist block expired (diff). Now he did it yet again included in an other edit (an attempt to hide it?) which you can see in this diff. After that I gave him a final warning at his talkpage, since it was discovered a long time after (about a week) I thought I could not go back to AIV, but then he responded by copying the warning I gave him and added it to my talkpage. He even copied my signature and just changed it to his name. Can he do that? He clearly still wants to edit war to insert his version. Qed237 (talk) 20:38, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Also the discussion has been held recently as he was blocked the first time. You can find it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 108#Timestamps. It is a clear case of Efc1878 edit warring to get his version (and he tries to hide it in other edits now). Qed237 (talk) 20:44, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Qed237. Thanks for the diffs and your patience. I'm still reading and trying to figure out what is happening. Please give me a bit of time. :) We'll get it sorted out. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:49, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi again, Qed237. I cannot make heads or tails of this timestamp business, but will consider it a content dispute, which is none of my business. Edit warring and disruptive editing is. I have therefore posting at his talk about warring and not observing BRD. I hope that helps. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:00, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Okay thank you very much. To keep it simple, the infobox is updated with timestamp to tell when the stats are correct. It is important so readers can see "Oh, it has not been updated since 2014" so they can see that it is out of date. Efc1878 however has a habbit of modifying these timestamps to his own likings instead of when it was updated. As you say it is a content dispute, but he is clearly edit warring (which is why he has been blocked twice) and he continues even after those blocks, which made me annoyed. I was not involved from the start but was alarmed by his behaviour. Let's hope your warning help, and if he reverts again I hope see it and that I can contact you again or go to WP:ANI. Qed237 (talk) 21:06, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi again, Qed237. I do not even see clear consensus about timestamps, and I am guessing that both ways are used in different articles. Is that correct? If so, then if you are the one that makes it one way, and you get reverted, then you must also observe BRD and not start reverting. From my point of view, if this is a content dispute, then whoever changes the stable version must accept being reverted and take it to talk rather than reverting back. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:12, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Many editors does not even care as long as it is a timestamp after the most recent match. So for example if the team played a match at 4pm on 25 March, then the timestamp should be after that match had finished (othwise we give false information and readers might think the last match is not included). The problem with Efc1878 started when he only updated the date and not the time, so for example if the timestamp said "03:16 19 March" then he just changed the date so it became "03:16 25 March", but match had not finished at 3am. Now he just updates the times randomly instead of just putting five tildes (like he has been explained how it works many times at his talkpage) which causes these problems. He does not even know how to sign his personal talkpage posts and for example here when he edited while being blocked he put "18:20, 10 April 2017 (UTC)" when he edited 17:18 (UTC). And as explained earlier at my talkpage, he just stole my signature instead. Perhaps not a big deal, but when he does it in discussions it looks like he edited before the editors above him if you look at the timestamp. Qed237 (talk) 21:28, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Just as a final comment before I leave this. Mattythewhite made this edit in which he updated the infobox, checked the stats, and then updated the timestamp when he updated the article. After that Efc1878 started edit warring with this edit. Pretty clear how he does not accept edits of other editors but wants his version. Qed237 (talk) 21:34, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- I see that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:39, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

- Hi Qed237. Yes, making times appear different from when the post was made is disruptive and therefore not permitted. Please let me know if he does that again. As for your sig, well, I am not sure they are copyrighted. :) I don't know much about etiquette and protocol there. I just use a normal sig. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:39, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- WP:SIGFORGE. Qed237 (talk) 21:42, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- Not a big deal, it is more the fact that I suddenly got a level 4 warning that was a total "payback" of some sort and the fact that he used my signature was just evidence that it was completely copied and not a legit warning. Qed237 (talk) 21:47, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- The warning was just part of the fight between you two. I won't comment on that.

- WP:SIGFORGE, eh? Interesting. I never saw that before. The signature copying is debatable. He uses your font, size, colours, etc., but his name is still Efc1878 while yours is Qed237. I'm not sure anyone will confuse the two of you. If you want to cite precedent, please do. I have no clue how the community views such copying. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:57, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, in theory, though I feel there is little point in a series of escalating blocks in short succession when it's clear he won't/can't mend his ways. We're simply delaying the inevitable. GiantSnowman 19:34, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Ent
Can I get a second opinion on putting NE Ent into the WP:ORCP queue? The reason I ask is his AfD stats superficially seem all over the place, but I checked most of them and in every case he clearly showed evidence of WP:BEFORE and put up a good argument. Indeed, he only seems to get involved in AfD when it really matters. So I think he should pass the AfD barrier; it's just I fear people would pull those stats up at an RfA. I think Ent should have been made an admin years ago, he's done a lot of good work at ANI in defusing ugly situations, not least the DangerousPanda desysop. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:58, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie333. Does NE Ent even want to be put into the poll? Have you asked? Normally, they are self-entered. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:30, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) His participation here has been very sporadic lately; sometimes weeks go by between editing sessions. I think that, more than AfD, would cause people to downgrade him. I agree with Anna that while people can be invited to put themselves into the poll, it's their action to take. --MelanieN (talk) 22:54, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- That {{noping}} template seems to need some work ...
- Yea, never cared too much about Afd per se, but occasionally found it useful to redirect a too personal discussion on ANI (aren't they all?) back to the discussion at hand.
- Due to some real life changes (all good) I've limited time and interest for Wikipedia right now, except for an occasional editing session; due to a rave review in the Wall Street Journal I was just looking at Feist (singer) in dismay, I'd need some time to make that read like an actual article (In 2012, she had a ham sandwich...). So I'm flattered by the thought but it's not something I could pursue right now -- is there a critical shortage of mops? NE Ent 00:42, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yikes. The history of Module:No ping shows that noping was broken from 05:14, 18 April 2017 until 01:30, 25 April 2017. Johnuniq (talk) 04:30, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Airport article refs and 223.206.*
Hi Anna, I noticed your message on User talk:223.206.250.230. You may well have already spotted this, but it's clearly someone who hops around many different 223.206.* IPs, so actually engaging them in conversation may well be problematic. Lack of edit summaries and removal of references is a major theme. I've reverted more than a few of them. I can't remember for sure, but I may well have escalated to 4im warnings and/or {{uw-multipleIPs}}
after the first few cases. To the best of my knowledge, we've been unable to get any talk out of them, hence the escalation from gentle to harsh warnings. It's quite possible that there may have been some AIV reports and blocks as well. I can't tell for sure if there's malice or similar behind any of it (but without any active communication from them to aid in that analysis, the behaviour is problematic and block-worthy, in my opinion). Just some context/info for you, in case you're late to the party on this one. Murph9000 (talk) 20:37, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey! Why did you delete my draft?
"Non controversial" cleanup makes it sound like that article was never going to be made.SomeWikiuser999 (talk-contribs) 19:18, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi SomeWikiuser999. You are very welcome here, however, please understand that we are all here to help build this encyclopedia. I deleted that draft and the redirects to it because, as a complete newcomer, and considering your edits so far, it would have almost no chance of being useful. Please, before you go creating guideline pages, why not edit constructively? How about adding good content to the mainspace or starting an article? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:28, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- I thought I was supposed to have a right to use the draft namespace. You can delete it if I submit it for creation and it's still not good. Also, the phrase "...as a complete newcomer..." sounds kind of like a statement of seniority.SomeWikiuser999 (talk-contribs) 19:39, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- I see you just recreated Draft:Wikipedia:Don't tell the admins how to do their jobs. The "right"? Please don't WP:WIKILAWYER. Creating that draft is more disruptive than anything. It is wasting our time dealing with it. "Seniority"? No. Experience? Yes. You've been here 1 week and made 58 edits, a small percentage of which have been constructive. - Hi there, SomeWikiuser999. Look, you seem like a nice, very young, enthusiastic person who would like to help Wikipedia. I'd suggest letting that draft be deleted and starting on the path to constructive editing. What are you interested in apart from (I'm guessing here) fighting vandalism? Animals? Bridges? Castles? There are lots of articles that need making. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:52, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Before unblocking this user (if you decide to do so), could you please address some of the conflict of interest issues? Seems like they're only here to push their family and its accomplishments. That said, the copyright issue is more significant, as evidenced by the re-uploads of deleted content. – Train2104 (t • c) 14:14, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Train2104. Good suggestion. The user is still pretty far from being unblocked. Apart from copyvios and COI, he has still been uncommunicative until now, shows signs of possible CIR, and frankly, has been dishonest as well. He may never be unblocked. Samuel Holden page
Anna, please review the Samuel Holden page. I added in a reference. I hope this changes your mind about deleting it. EddyReady (talk) 02:36, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello and welcome EddyReady. The reference you added is not a reliable source. Unfortunately, the article has little chance of surviving. The subject is just not notable. I am sorry. Please read WP:42. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:42, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

I added in another reference. Do you think it will save the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by EddyReady (talk • contribs) 23:39, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi EddyReady. No. Any sort of wiki is not a reliable source. Honestly, media coverage of Samuel does not seem to exist. Once he is covered in the media in, say, five or six magazine pieces all about him, then, he can have an article. Also, (and I say this because I've been around a long time and know the signs), if you are Samuel or connected to him in some way, then you should not be pushing for the article. It would mean that you are trying to promote the subject. When the subject is notable, someone will surely write the article. Now, if you are Samuel or connected, (and please do not say if you are), we could really, really use a photo of Richard Holden (politician). Maybe have an old photo from a shoebox somewhere gifted to you. Then, upload it to Commons. We would be grateful! Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:48, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- I am very sorry but I am not connected to him and I also do not have any pictures of Richard Holden. I added in a new reference from imdb. I will remove the Wikipedia one.

Juan help or advice?
I came across Juan, a set index, because I'm writing about Chinese libraries (and may write about Chinese books), and want to link the term juan in the Chinese sense of volume or fascicle.
Then I got in over my head trying sort out WP:SETINDEX from DAB, as I tried to explain on the TalkPage there. It seems to me that Juan (disambiguation) is a Redirect, not a DAB, but I'm not sure whether to edit or move or merge it.
Not one of the universe's major challenges, but I saw in the Edit History that you stepped in at one point and might help again if you are not engaged elswhere. No problem if you are and many thanks in any case. ch (talk) 04:16, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, ch. I'll respond over at Juan talk and provide a link to this thread for background and transparency. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:52, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Since he obviously does not like anything I say, I write directly to you instead. All I did was to leave a very short message about Wikipedia:Standard offer, but he insists on personal attacks so I requested talkpage block at WP:RPP which has now caused a lot of disturbance. Did I do something wrong? Qed237 (talk) 14:51, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Anyway I wont be writing at his talkpage anymore, was just trying to help and gave him information about standard offer without responding anything to his repeated personal attacks. Qed237 (talk) 14:58, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
I retracted the request that caused this new set of personal attacks (diff of removal) and leave it all for you to handle as you feel appropriate. Qed237 (talk) 15:02, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Picture at the front
Hi Anna! I like the big picture that you can click on the frames to go to the appropriate articles! Just one question: what do each of the pictures mean? Do they all represent something of you? I can't really feel confirmed about it because there is very little text captioned on it (despite the fact it says "Anna's cafe"). — AWESOME meeos ! * ([nʲɪ‿bʲɪ.spɐˈko.ɪtʲ]) 12:46, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

After a little haxing....
Hello! I'm the dude who guards the Lovely Professional University page. I noticed you reverted an edit made by an IP looking to remove the 'controversial' part. First of all, thank you for helping me out there! The more important thing is that after 5 min of investigation, I think it's safe to conclude that the IP belongs to the University. I've provided the link below. http://www.ip-tracker.org/locator/ip-lookup.php?ip=124.253.5.65 King Kunta (talk) 16:51, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi King Kunta. First, thank you for guarding that article. I cannot understand how you see, from that link, that IP belongs to the university. Also, if it is from the uni, do we know if it is used by students in a computer room, or staff? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:49, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
The location of the IP and the uni is the same. I can't really find out if it's a shared up though. If I'm not wrong, some editors have tools for that right? King Kunta (talk) 16:40, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi King Kunta. Yes, some do. However, they use them for confirming sockpuppets, not for finding out if an IP is staff or students' computer room. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:42, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

- I'm not quite sure what that is. I see an empty square. Maybe it doesn't render. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:58, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- I see a box as well, using this old laptop. To see these characters you need to have an emoji font on your system; they only started coming with the Mac OS a couple of years ago (smart-phones & Windows systems too, probably, but I have no experience of those). There are a couple pictured here. I notice a few users using emoji in their sigs these days, but without a supporting font they all look like boxes or blanks, the same as text in writing systems not covered by the installed fonts.—Odysseus1479 19:21, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Tallest Buddha Statue
Hello... Lay Kyun Setkyar is 424 feet high including the Base. Spring Temple is 420 feet high including the Base. But You described Spring Temple is the tallest Statue. Why? Thukha Oo (talk) 03:47, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
Hello.. Laykyun settkyar is 424 feet high. (Not 381 feet). So, I want u to describe Laykyun Settkyar is the Tallest Buddha Statue in the World. If u have doubt, come and see the real height of Laykyun settkyar. Thanks... Thukha Oo (talk) 03:56, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Thukha Oo. List of tallest statues and lots of sources say that Spring Temple Buddha is taller. Check the articles. Spring Temple Buddha is total 502 ft. I also see lots of sources saying Laykyun Sekkya is not that tall. Where are your sources that say Laykyun Sekkya is higher than 502 in total? Second set of eyes
Incidentally, I need someone uninvolved to take a look at the overall contribs of the editor creating the articles at issue here. I've run across the same issues with him in some rodeo articles and he seems to have caused similar issues on some golf articles, possibly some boxing ones too. I think he might be an undisclosed paid editor, but my radar is sometimes off when it's a set of articles where I am involved. I asked him flat out and got a non-answer, which raises my suspicions (usually a false accusation elicits an outraged denial, not an outraged counterattack...) Montanabw(talk) 00:00, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there. I posted asking him directly. I hope that is okay. I think it is a good place to start. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:30, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, that was fine. That said, he may want to slow down a little. A cursory run through that list shows that he mostly creates very low-quality stubs that, based on content, appear to mostly be of marginal-at-best figures. You can kind of see why I kind of was wondering if he had a motive to create as many articles as possible... I checked to see if he was in the wikicup or a DYK regular, and he's not. Montanabw(talk) 05:48, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

- Don't worry Montanabw. Nobody really thinks you're an evil kitten-eater. :) I'm sure you two will work it out. Besides, it is now entering the 200,000 keystroke stage, which is where everyone usually runs out of steam. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:09, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi there. I just saw you edit another article, and you're an admin, so I wonder if you can help me. - Hi Magnolia677. It is reasonable to want a response. However, the editor has the right to remain silent. If he does, you can certainly just revert his edits. And yes, often reverting prompts the editor to speak up in defense of his edits. If he does not, and rather restores the edits, then we can deal with that then. - I didn't try the coordinates, but used ACME Mapper in topo mode to locate each individual township. Then I highlighted these on the map he had provided as a source. The temperature data was very close, but the elevation was off, and there was no listing for snowfall (which he had added to the template). Thanks!. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:05, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Magnolia677. Please try the coords. If the temperatures are very close, as you say, then I don't care if they are in the article. If you care, then they are disputed edits. He must discuss or they stay out. If he is guessing at elevation and snowfall, or not providing a source, then those things can rightly be considered disputed, unsourced, poorly sourced, original research -- that sort of thing -- and may be removed. If restored without discussion, he ought to be blocked. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:16, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Please contact me if that happens rather than getting into an edit war. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:54, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Northamerica1000 has given you some chicken feet! Chicken feet promote WikiLove and hopefully this has made your day better. You can spread the WikiLove by giving someone else chicken feet, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
Thanks for uploading the images of peen tong at Commons, which has served to improve the article on English Wikipedia, and thanks for your other uploads at Commons as well, such as this one. North America1000 23:18, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Candidate search project
Thanks for starting up the poll candidate search project. I was beginning to lose hope in RfA until I saw what you were doing. I don't plan on participating in the project (I'm not experienced with Labs or SQL in general, and I don't feel I could safely vet a candidate.), but I was thinking: maybe you could have a list of candidates who took the ORCP after receiving an invite through this project. The list would then display the numerical average result of the ORCP and then, if they went on to try an RfA, display the result of that, too. We already have lists of successful and unsuccessful RfA runs, so I don't see the harm in one more list having to do with RfA. This list would also show at-a-glance whether or not the project is being successful. — Gestrid (talk) 22:24, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Gestrid. We do have this, which shows who took the poll after getting the post. We will eventually add a column for those who went to RfA, if this all works out and goes forward. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:40, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
Template:Islands of Hainan
Greetings.
NONE of the so-called "outlying" islands that were in the template have anything to do with Hainan. If you disagree, please discuss the matter on the talk page and put a notification on my talk page.
With thanks in advance, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:27, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Pdfpdf. No need for all caps. Sure, let's discuss things at Template talk:Islands of Hainan. And just to set the tone: I do not care that much either way. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:51, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

C. Carl Anderson
You noted that my latest draft of this proposed article had been pasted. it was pasted from a letter I had sent to Anderson's widow, since I had trouble locating my earlier draft. No copyright is involved. I wish to make other changes but had not had a chance to do so. William J. PeaseWilliam J. Pease (talk) 19:41, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, William J. Pease. I understand. The problem is that the text appears at this Amazon page, and so we must consider that text copyrighted according to their site's conditions of use. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:56, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- There is a chance that Wikipedia will accept it if you send in permission. Please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials to find out more about that. However, I have been advised that the chance of that text being accepted is very small because it appears at Amazon. Please consider writing another text from scratch. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:30, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Anna Frodesiak: I will simply give up. It would be absurd to ask for copyright permission, since no copyright was involved. I cannot see how Amazon was implicated. Wikipedia's Kafkaesque labyrinth of access has me defeated. William J. PeaseWilliam J. Pease (talk) 19:07, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi William J. Pease. Do you mean give up and not use that text, or give up and never write the article? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:21, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- And I do understand how this seems Kafkaesque. It is for your protection. I mean, we do not know you are the real William J. Pease. John Doe could register this username and then claim to be you and wish to use the text. The real William J. Pease arrives and sees his work used without his permission. I know you are William J. Pease, but we have to follow this procedure just in case. Otherwise, Wikipedia could be sued. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:40, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Vending machines
Hi Anna: The Vending machine article is lacking images of Chinese vending machines, except for File:Orange juice vending machine - 01.jpg, which is quite nice. For starters, check out the Various food vending machines gallery section of the article, which would benefit with a greater-globalized overview.
So, if this article is to be improved, it's up to you, and only you at this point (joking) . North America1000 13:41, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

If you just keep reverting, you will end up blocked and unable to modify the article. What outcome do you want? To have the article the way you think best, right? - Chanels4ever, here comes the magic: Others are watching that page. State your case. He'll state his. Observers will weigh-in. If you're right, they'll side with you. Maybe they'll suggest a middle ground. Who knows? It works by community consensus. If everyone disagrees with him and you make the most sense, it's tough luck for him. Give it a shot. - Hi King Kunta. It is a promo piece, an advert, a sales pitch, and a full-colour brochure. I stopped half way through reading it to phone them and enrol. Yes, sharpen the scissors and start cutting! Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:39, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

photo of Frazier Mohawk
Hi Anna,
This is a reply to you query regarding a photo i own of Frazier Mohawk. Unfortunately, i don't own any photos of Frazier, as I never took any photos of him. Actually, it was the other way around....he took some photos of me in the recording studio. There are some photos of us in some studio magazines, but I don't own them and there are copyrights attached to them. Do you know Frazier from Canada?
Best,
Walter

- I'm sorry but lotsofwords.com is not a RS. I happen to have a Swahili-English dictionary here and the entry for "etimram" reads: Etimram: disgusting, revolting, repulsive, producing an intense feeling of disgust or repulsion. Usage: "That open-faced sandwich was disgusting, as though somebody put marmite on it. But why would anyone do that? That stuff is horrid." Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:09, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

I may be wrong but it looks like User:Abrish211 (who you blocked) used sock-puppet User:HPinjani to use Wikipedia:Twinkle to vandalize 50 articles in less than two hours. Check this out
Look at what I just removed from the List of fermented foods article (diff). I swear, I didn't add it there. Is it a fermented food? North America1000 23:16, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
- Gross! That's it. I'm going to delete Marmite and risk getting recalled. :)
- Is Marmite fermented, you ask. Hmmmm, does rotten, putrid, rancid, and fetid count as fermented?
- See also: stinky tofu (I've smelled it and it smells like poo. On a desert island, I'd prefer a case of that rather than Marmite wash up on shore.)
- Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:29, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

- Gross too! You really like odd foods, eh? Well, you'd love China. There's some stinky stuff here. Then again, the West has salami and cheese, which smells like feet. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:05, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

- Don't come here! There is something they eat here in Isan, sometimes twice a day, that is so vile, if you were walking along a path in the forest in the beautiful State of Main in the Fall and caught a whiff of it, you would be leaving the trail to look for something you would expect to have to report to the police as the remains of a week old homicide. And there's also the fried scorpions and barbecued rat that are a take-away snack on a stick in every market. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:02, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Kudpung กุดผึ้ง. I ate grasshoppers or crickets in Thailand, not sure which. They were okay. I think I ate some scorpion but I don't remember. There were grubs too, but I passed. You refer to green papaya salad, but that is good and doesn't smell, does it? What smells? I remember seeing roast rat but didn't eat any. I think that was in Pai. I like Pai. Five pm +32 degrees then 6 pm quickly -1700 Kelvin. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:15, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- Ah, I see now. I don't remember that. Yes, pickled fine, aged fine, fermented is gross. I heard something about Iceland's fermented shark that can clear a room. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:19, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'll pick at a bag of fresh fried crickets with an occasioal beer before dinner, The Somtam they serve here is absolutely vile. I gag if I go near it. I think it's something to do with their home made fermented fish sauce. We have a lovely papaya tree right outside the back door. Ripe papaya is nice. I won't have the somtam in the house. When my wife wants her daily ration she has to go up the road to her mother's house. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:26, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Kudpung กุดผึ้ง. With so many culinary choices, why eat things that make one gag? People sure are strange.
- It is common here for certain people to have an aversion to the smell of cooking goat. I love it but am dissuaded from making it due to some cry babies in the house.
- Papayas are great. I am often in the countryside and they are easily found on public roadside trees. Free, fresh papaya is a good reason to live where we do, eh? Funny thing is, unlike other fruits, it is hard to spot an odd-tasting one. Sometimes they look great, but are not. We also have roadside Clausena lansium, wild lychee, star fruit, longan, and others. Lovely! Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:55, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- Pardon if I'm interrupting. Funny to see this mentioned, in the last 12 months I tried Japanese nattō which is their stringy "stinky tofu". Have not tried crickets or silkworm larvae but saw them as street food in Korea many times. Took a pass on the wriggling just-cut-up octopus sushi in Korea too. I have to admit that the food choices unusual to my palate weren't shocking, just interesting, but seeing whale meat for sale casually in a Japanese grocery store was shocking. - Bri (talk) 18:04, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- I'm pro-whale meat. (Please don't hate me. I love whales.) I love piggies and piggies are as smart and sensitive as dogs. As long as people are going to eat meat, they might as well get the most meat for each animal they kill. Thousands of piggies living horrible lives then getting killed could be exchanged for a single whale living a good life then getting killed. (How they kill a whale is not great, though.) A tofu-eating planet would be best, but that won't happen. Thanks for letting me bend your iar. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:55, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- Not far from me in a province called Sakhon Nakhon there are several farms that breed dogs for human consumption. In France where I lived for a great many years, horsemeat is a speciality and steaks are quite delicious - there a horse butcher shop often called Chevaline, in most French towns. But dog meat... Na. I think the Chinese eat it too. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)
- I've asked for a pic of rat-on-a-stick at the Vietnam and Thai wikiproject talks. Fingers crossed.

Kudpung, please keep an eye out for the below. You've opened a can of worms. And I hear they're delicious, but not as good as worm-on-a-stick.
- Sai krok Isan
- Nom yen
- Espresso yen
- Oliang

- If a serious effort is undertaken to organize an Asian food interest group, even if just for pictures, pls keep in mind that many North American cities have large and diverse populations. I'm thinking Cascadia in particular. Plus, residents who travel to Asia frequently. Anna, I just added an individual who I think is highly qualified to the list. Just wondering if this is still an active initiative? Haven't seen much happening there. Also, I was thinking of adding a column for the person who adds a name, just to keep track of my own additions, if you think that is sensible? - Bri (talk) 18:02, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Bri. Well, there are around 60 entries needing vetting. I was waiting for more before getting started. This is because last time it took over 200 names to get results. But, yes, it is active. I guess there are no more names coming in, and I should get started on the vetting. I will get back into it. Thank you kindly for adding the name. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:15, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Sure. Hope I didn't jump the gun on adding an assessment on the last addition; I wasn't sure if that was reserved for admin's or other regulars to the page. - Bri (talk) 22:25, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Bri. Of course it is fine. Anyone can do anything at those pages. Thank you so much for contributing! :) And do not worry to much about the AfD figures. Recent RfAs show a trend to not caring too much about that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:37, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- If I can be so bold as to plug another one who I think is a strong candidate, it would be Nagle. - Bri (talk) 22:45, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

- I should point out that he is a public figure, as stated on his userpage. Just thought you should not be surprised by this, as it's kinda unusual for an admin candidate. - Bri (talk) 23:06, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- That could be an issue, but he can decide for himself. Admin actions inevitably upset some people, and those people have been known to make threats. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:12, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Systemic issues
- Maybe it's too early to do this and apologize in advance if it's coming on too strong. But I wanted to give you an off the top of my head reaction to the two recent "no thanks" that candidates gave. It concerns me that we may have a system that seems to partition good (experienced, trusted) editors into mutually exclusive groups:
- Community organizers/motivators/thought leaders
- Content creators
- Patrollers/fixers/monitors (i.e. cops)
- My impression from the sidelines of many RfAs is that many participants are looking for a good all-around candidate, not just one in the third category. But the only ones who will endure the RfA process are looking for a front-row ticket to the third list. Which we need, don't get me wrong. But what if we aren't generating the balanced admin's anymore? The Internet isn't standing still, and this tech/community base needs to be able to evolve and move forward, which means more focus on the capabilities in the first category IMO. Which also happens to move us towards a more open, inclusive, less judgmental and punishment-oriented community culture, which in many ways has evolved in spite of our efforts to be more inviting, open and attractive to a diverse (non-male, non-geeky) group of contributors. The admins, like it or not, have a lot to do with establishing these norms. - Bri (talk) 22:06, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
- Do they? Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:30, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Do they? How do we establish these norms? We just go around cleaning stuff up. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:45, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Uh, WP:TIAC for one example. Shutting down rancor with the block button. Norms of what's blockable I know evolve by consensus from all contributors by the book. But realistically don't you think there's an element of some are more equal than others at play? Surely the Wikipedia:IPs are human too essay captures at least a gist that we really don't treat every editor the same. Wikipedia is a human construct and we inevitably separate into "insiders" and "outsiders" but here we call them "regulars" and Randy in Boise. If you don't see that, you really need to go to an editathon and see what happens to newly constructed articles by first-time editors. Or create a legitimate alternate account and do a trial yourself. - Bri (talk) 05:59, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Wow, Bri, that's a tough one to answer. Admins decide on what is tolerated or not. But non-admins do too, like when a bunch of non-admins all think someone should be blocked and admins follow those community wishes.
- As for "some are more equal than others", yes, but I'm not sure it is about insiders and outsiders. There are great content creators who can be really disruptive and uncivil. They are tolerated more than others because they are a net-positive compared to someone behaving the same way with few good contribs.
- As for "punishment-oriented", that is totally not why admins block. They deal with one case after another. There is no time or energy for anger or vindictiveness. They just want the disruption to stop so they can get on to the next matter.
- So, what would suggest to improve things? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:14, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- It's getting late so I'll just link Wikipedia:Why is Wikipedia losing contributors - Thinking about remedies for now, which I have in fact not contributed to, though perhaps I should. Especially pertinent to what we just talked about is §Abuse of power and §Possible solutions. I think there's a lot more to say, though, about what's often perceived as a generally corrosive environment, and the part that admins take in sustaining or at least tolerating it. - Bri (talk) 06:28, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- So, what would suggest to improve things? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:14, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Whoa! Wikipedia:Why is Wikipedia losing contributors - Thinking about remedies is gigantic! :) If you could just give me a concise example of what I could do better, that would be great. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:41, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Anna, unfortunately no solid advice at this time, sorry for venting if that's how it came across. But maintaining a healthy community is an important issue to me. I'll think about it some more in the context of admin recruitment specifically. I should say your efforts to take this forward are appreciated, if you don't know it already Bri (talk) 19:16, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

- No apologies necessary, Bri. You weren't venting. You just want to improve things. That is a good thing and why we are here.
- About admin recruitment, the candidate search thing is the limit of my effort. It should bring a few admins into existence. However, it must start with that raw list. I begged, and got 60 names. I need more. I will probably end up handling the raw list and vetting myself. (I'm still not sure if it will be worth the effort. Some of the projects I start are lemons. That's the way it goes. You don't know if you don't try.)
- As for me helping to improve things in other ways you describe above, well, I probably won't be much help there. After nearly a decade, I just don't think I have it in me. I am at my personal capacity with adminning, the bit of content I still do, and stuff over at Commons. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:37, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Please wait for me to update the article. Hong Kong University Press articulated on this in a book. This is a secondary source since Hong Kong University was not involved in this network.

- Hi Loststeak. Ironically, I cannot view that because google is blocked here in China.
- I will not delete it. I just put the speedy deletion tag back. Others will decide. Also, one source will not be enough. See WP:42 again. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:16, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
Kind invitation
Hi. Thank you for the kind words and the invitation to try to become an administrator. This is something I have thought about off and on over the years, but it's not something I can reasonably undertake. I'm fully occupied, mainly with trying to get articles to GA or FA and by doing reviews at FAC. If I add new tasks, I'll have to eliminate old ones, which I don't want to do. Best of luck in your search for admins. They do very important work. Finetooth (talk) 20:37, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Finetooth. The kind words are deserved. You are a great editor. I totally understand how you feel about adminship. If you're doing fine work, and the bit would take away from that, then carry on without it. Thank you anyhow. If you ever get sick of creating fantastic content and start to seek tedium and a sort of slow death, please drop by Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Best wishes. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:15, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

ORCP
Hey Anna. I was looking at Ritchie's comments today [6] at ORCP talk, and was reminded of having similar concerns when ORCP started up. Have a look at this discussion, which you participated in, in October 2015. This discussion started 3 days after ORCP officially had its first candidate. It was quite prophetic. It isn't that anybody did anything wrong. It's just humor nature to try to build structure into something where structure is absent. It's also the case that as bureaucracy grows, the more bureaucracy is needed. Worse, it is very difficult to remove bureaucracy once it has been put into place. Eventually, the bureaucracy reaches a level where the entire system becomes unusable by the average person. ORCP is a long way from that, but Wikipedia isn't :) Anyway, I don't mean to cause despair, but rather suggest we might need to rethink ORCP and try to get it back to its roots. That's difficult, but I don't think it's impossible. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:33, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Hammersoft. I totally understand. I've been watching, reading and thinking. I'll drop by with some input. Hopefully ORCP can be saved. Many thanks. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:02, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Your question
You asked if I am Makeptcgreatagain. Not I although I am very interested in Arkansas education issues. I grew up in Little Rock and now live in the Ozark Mountains. Sadly our state is falling into the same abyss as many others - saving tax dollars by enfeebling public education and pricing college out of reach of too many.
End of sermon. Why do you ask?
Bubbainbv (talk) 17:38, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there Bubbainbv. Thanks for the response. Good sermon! Austerity in the form of robbing public education will certainly hurt young people and their/America's future. But why tax the rich when trickle down economics works so well? Ha ha ha. Sorry, sad joke. The only supporters of trickle down economics are the rich and the stupid.
- Yes, as you see in this history, an editor who is now blocked added this content. Then you went through the history and restored some of the content in this edit with the edit summary "...Added details pertinent to the state of administration of the institution...".
- Had you just registered, I would have been quite certain you were him. However, since you registered in 2013, I thought it unlikely, but something worth asking about. So, thank you for saying, and that is about it. :) All the best, and happy editing. (Work hard to put control of your country
backinto the people's hands! That is all that matters now.) :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:19, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for thanking me when you used the thanks messaging system on Wikipedia to thank me. I am thankful that the thanks messaging system is presently working, and therefore, thankfully functional. Oh yeah, Meat rules!. North America1000 02:44, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

- Now, thank you for the thanks for the thanks. It's thanks to you that there is all this thanking in the first place. Of course, it was I who first decided to thank you, so I really have only myself to thank.
- Actually, I'd like to thank all those who supported me from the beginning, especially my thanking coach.
- Anyhow, thanks for reading this. I can't thank you enough. Really, thanks.
- Seriously, if you say "thanks" too many times, it starts to sound strange.

- Some folks here didn't see it as functional, hence my effort to hopefully improve it. There's also a draft that another user developed on the template's talk page. North America1000 12:10, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

If you add just one entry to Template:Sandwiches, I'll leave you alone about it...☺ Is it impossible to find collaborations nowadays, or is it just me? North America1000 13:01, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it is hard to find collaborator. Maybe Wikipedia is melting. I will see what I can add to the template. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:01, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
- No big deal. I was sort of "experimenting" to see if I could get someone to add to it just by asking! Also, another user recently added 16 more entries there. North America1000 07:09, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Check this out
Check out the new Pizza in China article. North America1000 07:09, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Now that is good! Why didn't I think of that? :)
- Pizza in China, from my experience, is bizarre. Supermarkets carry this fake pizza that is horrible bread with white food-paint to resemble cheese. There is Magritta Pizza company that sells pure, pure, nasty, stone cold rubbish. Just horrible stuff that should never be called pizza for 2$ slice. It's worth $0. I lived in central China years ago. Two pizza restaurateur from Vancouver opened a pizza place nearby. They had no clue. The pizza was great, Canadian-style pizza. Big mistake. Too bad Chinese people back then hated cheese and wouldn't eat bread unless it was totally sweet. Also, they opened the place in a basement of a mall. You had to go down stairs to even see it. Chinese people don't like embarrassment or surprises so didn't want to venture down only to change their minds. With few customers, they ended up trying to make thicker, sweet pizza and sell other dishes. Too little, too late. They lost a half a million RMB and went back to Canada with their tails between their legs. Oh, and Pizza Hut is here in Haikou. The pizza, if you can call it that, is a huge, huge, huge rip-off. Kids like it, though, and it does better than McDonalds, which is vile anyhow. KFC does well but they put way too much coating on and cook it in warm oil, so it is basically paste-covered chicken. Nothing crispy about it. Burger King, new in Haikou is empty, mostly due to the fact that their cheapest burger is about $4 CAD, totally overpriced. There, that's the skinny on pizza and other fast food, from my POV. Oh, and we have an oven and my pizza rivals the best NYC has to offer. Ha! Anyhow, good on ya for making that article!! Darn you're good. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:00, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
By the way, I think you read Wikipedia:Here to build an encyclopedia and took it too literally. They mean "...here to help build..." You're not supposed to build it all by yourself, you know. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:05, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- (ec) Wow, thanks, and also thanks for the detailed (verbose...just kidding!) reply. Well, I ordered a pizza earlier tonight and thought about pizza in China. So, I researched it, and in the process I learned a great deal about the topic, which is something I knew nothing about before. I also learned that there were previously Pizza Corner restaurants in Haikou (now owned by Papa John's Pizza). I haven't been able to find sources to verify Pizza Corner's former presence in Haikou yet; perhaps you could find a source. Feel free to expand the article, but since I have nominated it for DYK, just be sure to cite content!!! Pizza rules. North America1000 09:10, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- I remember a Pizza Corner upstairs here. It was like a starbucks with a pizza area. It was gross. It closed.
- Here, they sell a large (actually teeny) pizza (a large in China is a small in Canada) for $12 USD. It is not good pizza. I can make an equally big pizza at home for 10% of that price. Anything "special" in China is a huge rip-off. Labour, rent, cost of goods, etc., is cheaper here. If I can make a better pizza using retail ingredients for 10% the cost, and they are buying wholesale ingredients, then their cost must be nothing. I bet they are selling 6 RMB of food for 86 RMB. What a scam. I should open a pizza place. I would be a natural restaurateur. I'd call the place "The Shrieking Infant". That would draw them in. No, wait. Let me think about that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:29, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- I actually looked into opening a pizza restaurant some years ago. It can be a profitable venture; the markup is typically rather significant compared to raw food costs and overhead. Never came into fruition, though. I still may do it someday. North America1000 09:33, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

- Yet more: if you're not aware of it, Yadkard is great for automatically generating citations from sources. I use it all the time, and it's a great time-saver. It works really well, but occasionally requires tweaking the output a bit. North America1000 09:23, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

This discussion (rant by me) lead me to check out Fast food in China. Odd. Few edits. Not even a link to fast food. I added a few navboxes and will return to have a second look. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:45, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Such Roast Fish
-
What kind of fish
Such Roast Fish (translates to = "Fish, done this way, done as such...") is a recent trend. There are many of them in Hainan and maybe on the mainland too. Picnic benches rather than chairs with backs. App-only menu and payment. Loud music. Noisy youth shouting over the the loud music. Insufferable. Competitors are popping up. "What kind of fish" is one.
Other restaurants that may appear soon: "Such Gross Fish", "Fish? Not As Such.", "Are You Sure This Is Fish?", and "I'm pretty sure this is not fish."
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:09, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hey now: I don't recall ever seeing the Fast food in China article before. I performed a few edits there. The page would certainly benefit from more work. Regarding the fish restaurants, you could add content to Seafood restaurant regarding these if it's worthy. North America1000 02:06, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing the strange ref at Fast food in China.
- Yes, I didn't even know we had that article either. It's a good subject.
- I don't think those restaurants are notable. Also, I am not a big fan of writing about companies, although I have done a few.
- I love fish. I love pizza. One day they will combine the two an teach fish to make pizza. Then it will be loaf city for the humans.
- Cheers. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:14, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- In the meantime, you could have some seafood pizza. Hey, does What kind of fish serve mystery meat? North America1000 02:19, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- I get it. You wrote Seafood pizza. Stop trying to write the entire encyclopedia yourself.
- I never ate at What kind of fish. But we do have mystery fish here. They are called "fish balls". Imagine a squid-scented superball that gives you cancer. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:21, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Well, fish balls are sort of like chicken nuggets, prepared from a meat slurry (surimi). What's actually in them? Hey, you stole my smiley! North America1000 02:26, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Surimi, gross. I didn't know it existed. What's the name of that pink foam in McDonalds that was in the news?

- And what's in fish balls? I'd say fish sweepings and gelatin? They're pretty rubbery and firm.
- Speaking of fish balls, they are used in a sort of Chuan (food) dish here. Food is skewered and presented. Unlike chuan, they are not barbecued. Instead, they are put into a hot soup for a roadside snack. Common items are seaweed, fish balls, tofu, mushrooms, and I forget the others. Do we have an article? If not, I can find out the name and we can make the article. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:43, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Is fish "sweepings" fish scraps, or fish poop?
- Inre McDonalds: Probably pink slime (source)
- Inre soup: Potential title could be fish ball soup?
- All this talk about food is making me hungry.
- Malatang! I made an edit there just now with a rough translation. I will get more pics of that. We only have two. Then I can make a commonscat for it.
- Sweepings = scraps
- All this talk about fish balls is putting me off eating ever again.
- Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:02, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- I made a few edits to Malatang. Re fish balls, yeah, other fish dishes are much more "agreeable" (e.g. crab cakes, fish and chips, shrimp cocktail, etc.) North America1000 03:08, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for those edits, North America. Also, I took a couple of pics of Magritta pizza and their menu. I will also get some pics of bakery, Carrefour and other supermarket pizzas. They may be suitable for your article. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:12, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

- Magritta Pizza is the name of the restaurant. There are a number of them in Haikou and probably elsewhere in Hainan and maybe the rest of China. They are all lacking customers and have very old-looking pizzas under glass waiting for customers. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:18, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Question about a certain blocked user's comment
Hello Anna,
I noticed the interaction that you had on a certain user talk page. He was horrible and mean to you! You were very patient. I think that the eventual decision to block the user was correct and justifiable, in light of his refusal to choose a more reasonable user name and much more importantly, due to (possibly ORES or other toolserver-facilitated) detection of the user as a repeat sockpuppet and worse.
Here's my question: I found that user, and your talk page, because of a comment the user left on an article talk page. I have nominated the particular article for deletion, even after re-writing it, as I just don't think it is notable enough for inclusion. Regardless, the sole content on that article's talk page is a strange and inappropriate comment written by that user. Can I delete his comment on the T+D article talk page? I don't know if that is acceptable, as blanking talk page entries isn't encouraged. In this case, since the user was blocked and the comment is meaningless (or worse), I thought it might be okay. Every time I return to Wikipedia to check on the article's proposed deletion status, I see that comment, and it annoys me. Thank you for considering my inquiry.--FeralOink (talk) 04:49, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi FeralOink. Hmmm, well, we could consider just letting it sit there. The article is likely going to be deleted, and soon. When that happens, the talk page will be deleted too. The user, Dioldo, is now permitted to edit again at that account. And that editor gets upset easily. So, maybe just letting sleeping dogs lie is the best plan. If you disagree, please say. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:11, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't realize that he was permitted to edit again! I agree then, it is best to just leave it the way it is. Thank you!--FeralOink (talk) 05:18, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
