Frost flowers (sea ice page)
Hey Chzz, thanks for the help with the page. I've put one picture up, and am hunting round for some better ones to add. All the best Triboy123 (talk) 18:13, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- OK; please note, I have submitted it to "Did you know" - please see Template_talk:Did_you_know#Frost flower (sea ice). I didn't want us to run out of time with it. If you do come up with a better suggestion for the tag-line, or a better picture, please add it there. Also, keep an eye on the suggestion - there may be questions there. If it disappears from the listing, don't panic, it probably means it has been put into the queue - see the links at the top of that page. Chzz ► 10:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Nick de Angelis
This is Edieangelo who had been trying to complete the Nick de Angelis page. I thank you so much for your help. Yes, absolutely delete the other two pictures. I believe the article has been properly referenced re: Allan Stone Gallery, web address, books published with Nick's illustrations. I am sorry; I must seem like a complete ditz but all these03:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC){{{{{}}}}}[[]] are so foreign and confusing to me I feel like I am trying to learn Chinese. Anyone (and I am sure once the article goes 'live' there will be other 'editors' as Nick died at age 83 and was an active artist for 78 of those years.) who wants to see Nick's work can go to the website and see it there. I guess once the other two are deleted I can go forward and double check my references and ask for a review. It is not that I am so anxious to have it 'live' as that I am anxious to have it over with. I work three jobs and trying to do this is emotionally and mentally challenging me at a time in this economy when do not need additional challenges. Thanbkyou SO much for your help! - Hi again. Sorry if it seems confusing; we try to keep it simple, but Wikipedia is enormous.
- Re. signature - when you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured here.
- Re. the two pictures - they've been deleted, thanks.
- If you could get permission emailed to us from the copyright holder, by them sending us a copy of user:chzz/help/myboilerplate to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the pics attached, please do - and let me know; I will sort it out from there.
- If you are able to add reliable sources to the article, so that we can make it live, let me know - or if I can provide any other kind of help with it. Best wishes, Chzz ► 10:50, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Received your message (starting with "Displaced Message" and will work on your suggestions
Chzz,
I got your April 1 message and will start some work on your suggestions. I've copied them to my pc. Also I have a copy of the current version of the article there. The safest thing is to modify that copy and see how changes look.
Ideally it would be Simplest to have that second, modified copy in my User Page. I don't know if that is reasonable (copying and pasting into my User Space?).
Some of the suggestions are easy to do. I have to look at them more carefully.
But there remains one problem. What attracted me to the Birch Reduction article was not only my interest in it. But, not wanting to sound egotistical, it turns out that I am the only one who is really capable to deal with the subject thorougly and accurately. It comes from my having worked on and published in that subject somewhat uniquely. The others who worked on it and published are Arthur Birch himself (no longer living), Leo Radom who is not an organic chemist and primarily a phsical chemist and who has been out of the field, Aksel Bothner-By who I would guess is retired (Carnegie-Mellon) and was involved only at the beginning of the Birch work. My publications are the ones which provide the basis of understanding. There are plenty of organic chemists who use the reaction but that is quite different than understanding the mechanism in real detail; I suspect that most have not understood most of what I've published since the isotope trick was pretty unusual.
Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying that having the person who uniquely is involved with a subject then not being the one to describe it - may be something which sounds good in Wikipedia but isn't good. Carried to an extreme, it would doom Wikipedia's ability to have difficult material.
Chzz, I would hope that is not the case. If it were I would not want the Birch stuff to come from me and I would put it into some review article.
I hope that makes sense.
Would it make sense to bring that viewpoint to Wikipedia in general?
Anyway, I'll start going over the article on the other things.
Chzz, on an item completely separate from the Birch stuff but related in philosopy, in my main page there has been for over three-months a request for References and Links to items on my own Page. It has been stated that objective references for information there are needed. There has been a request for people to help. But there has been essentially none, again probably for the reason that few people if any will have the interest or ability to find those links and references. I took it upon myself to put two or thre more Links (References) in - One from Yale describing the Chittenden Award one from the ACS giving the winners of the James Flack Norris Award and one giving the winners of the AIC (Amer Institute of Chemists) Pioneer(ing) Award.
I'll end here and use my energy on the Article.
Best wishes,

- Userspace 'sandboxes' - feel free to make and use as many user subpages as you like. No problem with that. I have just edited your user page, User:Hezimmerman, and added links to the existing subpage and some others ("test one", "test two" etc) which do not yet exist, and so are red links. You can click on those and create the pages. The links on your user page will make a convenient place for you to get back to them, at any time. You can of course edit your user page and change the names, or add more.
- Referencing your own work - there is nothing inherently wrong in this, as long as you a) take care to only state facts that are supported by your published works (and nothing not published in reliable, third-party sources), and b) you maintain a balance with any other sources that may be available. Please review the essay (which is not policy, just a commentary), Wikipedia:Articles with a single source.
- Re. the article about you - I will make time to look at it, ASAP, and I will let you know. Chzz ► 20:50, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I have that user's talkpage under Watch. Earlier before I typed {{helpme}} on his talkpage, he was making edits on his user/talk pages asking questions. I don't know if he is sincere or what. - I've tidied up the article quite a bit, tidied up the users talk page, and added a bit more guidance.
- By the way, I noticed your own talk page is getting a bit long. Would you like me to set it up to 'auto archive' things more than a certain number of days old, and have a little 'archives' box on the top? If so, just let me know (here) - and how many days old. Chzz ► 05:17, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

How to upload a photo
Heyyy Chzz....i have this photo of a Maratha soldier with me....Wikipedia doesnt have a proper pic of the same....i need to use it the Wikipedia articles....but how should i upload it....kindly help...thanks....Kesangh (talk) 13:57, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. It all depends on the copyright status of the picture. If it is your own picture, that you personally took, you can just upload it at Commons.
- However, if it comes from the internet, or a book, or something then it is very likely to be copyright. We could not use it without permission from the copyright holder - they would have to email a special 'permission' to us. Let me know if I can help further. Chzz ► 05:22, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks a ton buddy....actually....1 of my frns used it on orkut....jus copy pastd it in my PC....actually its a painting....Kesangh (talk) 16:51, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- In that case, it might be complicated. It depends how old the painting is, and what countries rules apply. I suggest you ask on Wikipedia:Image legality questions - best to make sure of the right approach. It may well have copyright problems. Chzz ► 17:25, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Referencing
Thanks for the help. Sisiluncai (talk) 16:22, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi
Hi Chzz, Greetings from sunny Thailand. I have a technical question about a redirect for an article I want to write.
Some time back I contributed to an article Johannes Maas (missionary). I had a disagreement with another editor (over a detail on religion), who saw I had contributed much to that article, and he nominated it for deletion (I think out of spite. I had talked to you at the time about some of their edits which I felt were motivated by revenge). There was no consensus at the first attempt, but the second time, these who voted to keep did not repost their keep votes, and it was deleted. (You can find it in the archives, I think.)
I would like to write a new article Johannes Maas. However, that name redirects to Johannes Leonardus Maas. Is there a way to change this so I can use "Johannes Maas" for a new article which will not redirect to "Johannes Leonardus Maas"? Thank you so much for all your kind help. รัก-ไทย (talk) 05:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- สวัสดีครับ
- I also love Thailand, and I miss it. One day, I will return!
- I see that you have already solved the redirect problem yourself, so that's fine!
- You might want to add a 'hatnote' to both articles, when it is done, such as
{{otherpeople3|the missionary|Dutch racing cyclist|Johannes Leonardus Maas}}
(and vice-versa);
- Also, I have a favour to ask you. I am working on the article William Windsor (goat), and I would be very grateful, if you had a moment, if you could have a look at it.
- You could add any comments to Talk:William Windsor (goat)/GA1.
- Cheers! Chzz ► 15:48, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- More help needed, please. I rewote the article (Johannes Maas), adding new material. Now some editor deleted my new article (Johannes Maas) and changed the redirect to go back to Johannes Leonardus Maas. Please check that article to see what they have done. I cannot find the new article which I created, since Johannes Maas is redirected to Johannes Leonardus Maas. The two editors that are doing this appear to have a trouble past, as they are neither registered, nor have a page. Thanks so much. (You are welcome to Thailand any time--but it is extrememly warm now!!) รัก-ไทย (talk) 17:46, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I found the Deletion Log listing (12:57, 7 April 2010 JzG (talk | contribs) deleted "Johannes Maas" (G4: Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion. Also G11 and lack of independent sources.). Is there any way to retreve the deleted page? It was a new article with new notability notes. รัก-ไทย (talk) 18:06, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- The best way is to speak to the person who deleted it - just ask 'em if they can put a copy of the deleted article in your userspace - if they can userfy it. Chzz ► 19:19, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Hope this helps!

Re: Constraints
(1st post copied over, to keep the thread in one place Chzz ► 04:28, 5 April 2010 (UTC))
Hi there.
I am still concerned about the constraints section in List of best-selling music artists, which has been tagged as OR for some time. I didn't want to simply remove it before I spoke to you, but really, it has to go - it is 'meta information', not factual, and not supported by reliable sources; it infers that the 'rules' for the article differ from the standard policies and guidelines.
I am pleased that our previous discussions resulted in what I believe to be a more neutral style in the article - ie the bracketed listings; I think that has been a huge improvement. However, I think this issue with constraints does need to be addressed, and I welcome your own comments on the matter. If we need to discuss it to get consensus on the talk page instead, that would be fine too; I just wanted to ask you in person first. Chzz ► 00:48, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
---
Hi,
I honestly don't think we could find sources to specifically support the statements within the Constraints due to the nature of what the section intends to cover. So, as much as I'd like to keep the information as it delivers some of the basic factors that need to be looked at while observing record-sales, having it removed altogether due to not being able to source it is understandable. Perhaps, later on I'll re-insert similar information using a kind of language for which we could locate sources. Thanks for asking me first, I respect that, and welcome back by the way.--Harout72 (talk) 03:59, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Timex ( If you have time or nothing to do )
I'm hoping you can help with an archiving problem I'm having. I set up User:MiszaBot III and had it working, then I started to try to tweak out just right for me, trying to set the auto archive a little closer to the incoming messages, just tweaking. Anyway got to a point where nothing was being archived so you have to wait a couple days just to see how it's acting. So I got to a point where I just re-loaded the program/commands and now it did (today) archive some threads, good thing. Now I have two archive boxes, User talk:Mlpearc below the archive header. The first one is the one I would like to stay with and use, I like the "Hide" feature and the "search window" I would like to keep, but can live without. I made the second one to hold the links to the archived pages That already exist. The first was keeping them in the "hide" tab and creating new pages after the maxarchivesize value was reached. I could just let the first box just start from this point and go on. But I would like to install the pages I already have in the "Hide" section, but I don't know how or if it can be done. I still don't know if the new Install will create new pages as needed automatically I might of Blanked out the line command for that I don't know. I created a Archive Index Page here, User talk:Mlpearc/Archive index, just to have them around and won't have to spend time tracking down if I need something that's been archived, (I have made future links to sequential pages).
Nutshell I want to keep and use the top box with the hidden archive index. What I don't know is how to insert archived pages in that box and I still need to find out if it will auto-create new pages. Sorry for the rambling but if you could take a look at it I would be very appreciated. P.S. Your autograph would be cool also Mlpearc MESSAGE 06:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi Chzz'! You participated earlier in the sticky prod workshop. The sticky prods are now in use, but there are still a few points of contention.

I have your request for Links to Awards and for a brief list of publications - Will Do
To: Chzz From: Howard Zimmerman
I have your message (repeated below) and can supply the References for Awards. A number of neutral links and references are given in my Howard Zimmerman page. I'll pick out all that are neutral. And I believe I have some more.
Also I can supply the References to Articles, my 1975 Book and Chapters. I have literature references and wonder how to get the corresponding ISSN/ISBN's. Perhaps in SciFinder; I'll check.
But actually all of my publications along with brief write-ups are giving in that "User:New Artcle name here" which has a list of topics which correspond to items already in Wikipedia but not really complete or properly references and also to topics which might be written at some point.
Chzz, I'll look for a photo.
Best
FROM: Chzz [edit] Re. article Howard Zimmerman Re. Howard Zimmerman
"I have started working on this, and will continue to do so, as time permits - it may take a while, but I'll keep at it, between other things.
Do you have an appropriate photo that we could add? ideally a 'headshot', and reasonably recent - and/or any other particularly relevant pictures, such as e.g. you working on something in a lab, or delivering a talk, or whatever.
You could also assist in two other ways;
Do you know if there are specific references for the 'awards' - ie websites that list them? It may be that we can only 'prove' some of the awards, and we may have to remove others Could you provide me with a list of the most important papers and books that you have published or contributed to? Not too many; perhaps 10 or so, and please give full details (ISSN/ISBN, publisher, date, etc) Note: Please do not edit the article yourself, directly - because we will then have the same 'autobiography' issues. Feel free to make suggestions though.
Otherwise, I'll continue to try and improve it, so that eventually those tags can go from the top.

Moved from my user page
Chzz, here are some of the things you wanted. I'll get the rest before long. But here are the references with ISSN and ISBN numbers. Also, I found a picture of me which may be all right. It is in .gif forrmat. There are 17 references. I tried to select those which are "landmarks" but even with 17 I had to leave some really good ones out.
For the requested links and references, I'll work on that next.

Change of article name in AfD log
Thanks - I was scratching my head over that! JohnCD (talk) 14:16, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- No probs, sorry about any overlap; I was in the process of moving the article, moving the AfD, updating the link to the AfD in the article, fixing the linkage in the AfD, etc. A "/" in an article name is a pain. Cheers, Chzz ► 14:19, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Excuse Me
Why did you do that?
You have issues. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.30.191.15 (talk) 18:24, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hello. I work on many, many different articles and problems. Could you please tell me what you are asking about? Thanks, Chzz ► 19:44, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
So, anyway.....
Regarding my signature not showing, thank you for your advice. You were right. The box was checked. Howz it now? musant (talk) 19:13, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, glad you got that fixed, great!
- I just had a bit of a look at Jim Kelley Amplifiers, and tweaked a few things, which you can see in the history. Oh - I fiddled a bit with the talk page too.
- Nice picture - is that your own amp? I bet all the lights go dim when that thing is turned on :-) Cheers. Chzz ► 20:52, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the tweaks! I never would have spotted some of that stuff. In fact it took me a while just to find the changes you made. Really appreciate it. Question for ya, is there a proper way to footnote a particular sentence, as opposed to the entire paragraph?
Thanks, Chzz! musant (talk) 23:40, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, absolutely; that's the whole idea of using inline references. You just put the <ref> part directly after the sentence concerned. You can also use 'named references' to use the same reference several times. I'll add a guide on your own talk page. Chzz ► 09:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
AGF
Is always deserved and expected - In the particular case I saw a set of problematic edits - and suspected the worse - then, a user I have no clues about starts to makes claims on my talk page - I actually have made more templated welcomes in the last 24 hours than any such item that the user claims (ie where are the diffs?) that you have to join in - I am really curious - why? SatuSuro 11:07, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- There was nothing to say that the unsolicited editor was previously somebody else (sul says 161 edits) - and as far as I can tell the claims about biting newcomers is rather broad and without diffs - what is one to expect? - as a person not in knowledge of who the person is, who comes on board with a comment about my reaction to one editor - who happened to get it wrong? I remain intrigued as to the knowledge you have of the 161 edit user was previously around, and feel the necessity for me to take criticism from what I had assumed was legitimately a 161 edit user - there were no diffs - and youre backing it up. Odd SatuSuro 11:22, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, you are quite right - I should have given diffs. Or probably, I shouldn't have bothered to mention it at all. Anyway, I see that it has all been sorted out. Chzz ► 12:25, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Nah hey worse things happen at the coal face - have a good day (mind you the ambience of this place and the real world suggests we live in odd times) - and well lets hope you never meet anything like david http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:DavidYork71 in action - it can be a bruising experience :) - cheers SatuSuro 12:35, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed; I come from D.H. Lawrence's stomping ground, so we're used to coalfaces. By the way, in scooting around I came upon the RfA comments in User talk:OlEnglish#Wow - no politics at RfA? Hahahahaha. Best laugh I've had in some time! Chzz ► 12:41, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

- Arrgghh I woz wandering around Manchester and Alderley Edge last September - and watched motorway holdups (the other direction) on my way up to the Berwick on Tweed territory. As for all that stuff in 4 years that I have watched such a weird and wonderful range of issues at that aforementioned ( I get out the uzzi and slowly disengage the lock on the kalashnikov as I hear the word wondering over the valley...) that, that I shall not name - I can think of better things to do [32] if you look at the purple bit - you can see I have a thing about project tagging or two) I would say with all these asides - that the un-namable has more broken about it than there are potential and probable wrong turns on Manchester motorways :( SatuSuro 12:51, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I've passed it as a GA, so keep up the good work! fetchcomms☛ 01:46, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Moved from user page

Chzz,
I put the requested links on my own Talk Page but don't know if you will note that, and if that is the best way to get the information to you. Thus I'm putting this on your User page; I couldn't find User:Chzz/talk.
In any case I have a good list of Links as you requested. Some I had sent earlier but there are new ones. The best one is the Chemistry Department's list of All Departmental Awards going back very far; the Department apparently started this very long ago. But it does require manually searching in time to find me among the awardees.
The list of links follow below.
Best wishes, Howard
AWARD LINKS Note: The best link is the Chemistry Department Pages which list all of the Chemistry Faculty Awards. One needs to search through them by years.

regarding my new article learnacy which is marked for speedy deletion
I will go through your suggestions and the Wikipedia tutorial tomorrow lol. I have mostly cited from the book "power up your mind" by Bill Lucas in my initial comments in the article from my memory and interpretation of the book, I understand that direct quotations, not interpretations are required from that "published article". As far as scientific evidence goes I am sure Bill has valid references I will look into this tomorrow. Regards gr8sage lol :-S p.s alternatively may I suggest the article be written properly by someone more academically minded as I have learning difficulties lol thus my interest in creating the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gr8tsage (talk • contribs) 11:54, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
