I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Grand Mufti of India's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article. Reference named "timesofindia.indiatimes.com":

- From the references given in the article, it is very clear that the existing Grand Mufti and the Deputy Grand Mufti were appointed by the Prominent Islamic organizations mentioned in the article. They don't even know a new Grand Mufti has been elected to the post. It's totally fake and sponsored drama by one south Indian Sunni Rebel leader Kanthapuram A.P. Abubacker Musliyar and his followers. If you are checking his history, you can see that he made these type of fake appointments for himself to make the people confused.

The predominant Sunni scholars of the country selected kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar to the position of New Grand Mufti, according to the Times of India, the most circulated and authentic newspaper in the country, report. So, without showing any evidence, writing one person's own calculation and false information is against the procedures of Wikipedia. that is removed here, and bring out the authentic information . School of thoughts diffrence in islamic jurispidence is not an issue to appoint someone to the position of Grand Mufti. Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar had aquired all the knowledge in four school of thoghts , also got permission to give Fatwas in Four Madhabs from the time of his completion of Studies in Islamic theology.

- The Hindu and The Times of India are believed the most credible newspapers in India. The institutions you mentioned have not any authority to appoint the Grand Mufti. You should prove it. It was reported in Malayalam paper which was started to tarnish AP Aboobacker musliyar and that is not at all a source.

- Don't try to fool yourself. Please check all the previous Grand Mufti's of India and check who selected those Grand Muftis.
- You also agree with the statement that previous Grand Mufti's are the same what I have mentioned, but even though the authority who selected the current Deputy Grand Mufti and himself don't know this selection and paid news or sponsored drama will not be a proof for appointing a Grand Mufti. The page easily qualifies for deletion as it does not have any reliable references to establish notability. I did not make any changes to the page but just added tags to improve the references. And there is nothing in it to do with my edits in this page. See, my edits are not any politically or religiously inclined. Whoever the Mufti is I don't have anything to care. What I wrote is the organisation International Union of Muslim Scholars is linked with islamic extremist activities, and Mr Bahaudheen is a member of it. That organization is not at all a Sunni oriented. So a man who is linked to anti sunni activities should have a dubious stance and all his arguments shoulde be viewed in such a perception too. The second one The organisation he represents in Kerala is worked like a part of Muslim League, a political oraganastaion and both the oragansations' one of the supreme leader is hyder ali thangal. Kanthapuram ap abobacker musliyar is not part of this political game in kerala, so hatever progress he brings out to the mulsims in coutry this nadvi comes to oppose it. Request for comment - Grand Mufti Controversy
[edit]Akhtar Raza Khan was formerly known as the Grand Mufti of India by Barelvi Muslims. Upon his passing, the position was left vacant with no formal announcement on who was to succeed him. On the 24th February 2019, a conference was held in Delhi where it was announced by a singular organisation that Kanthapuram will now be the Grand Mufti of India [1]. This caused a split in India, with the followers and family of Akhtar Raza Khan, as well as other Muslims from Kerala, making a rival announcement that Asjad Raza Khan is actually the Grand Mufti [2]. Some reconciliate the controversy by saying that Asjad Raza Khan is the Grand Mufti for Hanafi Muslims and Aboobacker is the Grand Mufti for Shafi‘i Muslims, as they both follow different versions of Islamic Jurisprudence, while others such as Dr. Bahaudeen Nadwi from his rival faction in Kerala refuse to accept him as Grand Mufti outright[3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] To summarise, it is inaccurate for this article to assert as fact that 1) Musliyar is the Grand Mufti and 2) Grand Mufti is a position appointed by All India Tanzeem Ulama E Islam - no citation provided for this, simply because an organisation appoints someone in this position does not mean they have a formal standing to do so e.g. Akhtar Raza Khan was not appointed by All India Tanzeem Ulama E Islam. 3) When a single organisation has appointed, it is incorrect to exaggerate this as plural "prominent Muslim organisations".

- @Irshadpp: This is not my specialist area, and you haven't referred to the guidelines etc you've looked up. My take on this is, and I am by no means certain, per WP:COMMONNAME, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed is probably the common name. While per MOS:HONORIFIC the honorific Sheikh would normally be omitted this would probably come under the exception "Where an honorific is so commonly attached to a name that the name is rarely found in English reliable sources without it, it should be included.". @Djm-leighpark: Wikipedia avoiding such salutations (Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biography#Honorifics) like in articles Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Ali al-Qaradaghi, Mahmud Shaltut, Ibn Taymiyyah etc. In this article, his real name is Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar. As he is Abubakr s/o Ahmed, arab media called him Abubakr Ahmed with honorary salutation Sheikh, which means leader. Current Grand Mufti of India Dispute
[edit]As far as I can make out there are two claims for Grand Mufti of India, probably as explained by [1], which is why a ding-dong is occuring over who the Grand Mufti of India is. Rather than having a running edit war can the completing claims be placed here in a way people with no knowledge of the background of the claims can understand. - I beg to differ. We do not regard Musliyar as Grand Mufti of India. Neither is he much known to public, nor his few fatwa's. I don't know how he got this much coverage. I feel to make it clear, that for fatawas Indian Muslims look at Darul Ifta's, the schools established for legal and religious guidance of Muslims. The top of them being the one at Darul Uloom Deoband, others include the one at Madrasa Shahi, Moradabad — however, right after Kifayatullah Dehlawi, Deobandi's have regarded no one as Grand Mufti of India, and this is why the likes of Mahmood Hasan Gangohi are only called as Grand Muftis of Darul Uloom Deoband. See, for example Times of India and Hindustan times and New statesman which mentions Mufti Habibur Rahman as the seminary's Grand Mufti. The Barelwi's regard their scholars as Grand Mufti of themselves. Musliyar is however, chosen by some organizations to be their Grand Mufti — and thus he is not Grand Mufti of India at whole? Though, accepted to his followers. I request a History section be added which discusses all these issues; only that can protect this page from 3-sided vandalism. Telegraph states that Kashmir has a separate Grand Mufti, similarly there is Amarat-e-Shariyah in North-East India, with which Mujahidul Islam Qasmi was associated, he is known as Qazi only because he was the top authority in giving rulings. It should be noted that it is consideration of own followers. Similarly, Musliyar considered as Grand Mufti of India by his followers. One way I might see forwrd is adding a section to the article to say some groups do not regard XXX but see others another as the highest Mufti for their School of Islam (apologies if I have not put that right). A hatnote may need to indicate that being the Grand Mufti of a state such as e.g. Kerela does not qualify as the overall grand Mufti of India for this article. - Mufti normally, in today's scenario is used for someone who studies the ifta course at any seminary. It is not same as faqeeh who interprets Quran and takes rulings out of that, a Mufti is one, who gives a religious verdict referencing it back to faqeeh. For example, Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari has a fatawa institute in Leicester, and in a fatwa, he mentions, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Ibn Abidin, Muhammad Yousuf Ludhyanwi have ruled so and so, and this is my opinion. The latter people are then fuqaha because they derive the ruling from explicit texts.
- I do not think that Mufti is a Sunni only term. As I have stated, that in India, different states have their state Mufti, whom they call their Grand Muftis, like the Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir is connected with governmental office, as [BBC Urdu] states but that doesn't make him GRAND MUFTI OF INDIA at any cost. Musliyar has neither been selected by the state Muftis who've highest authorities in respective states, and nor has he been selected by top religious institutions of India. One thing is that Hanafi can't follow other imam jurisprudence, however, other imam can follow hanafi jurisprudence, because Imam E Azam is the eldest imam in all four imam. [edit]The Electoral college was introduced to the list of Grand Mufti's table at [2]. My "electoral college" can simply mean the group who elects someone. As used in the article this implies on a casual read, especially when prefixed by "the", that there has been a continuous college ... it is not cited that this is the case, and my best good faith understanding, possibly incorrect, is different bodies have done the election.
