Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 11:52, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing my attention to this rule. I understand the need to prevent edit warring, unfortunately in this case my edit is actually being wrongly accused to be defamatory and removed by a non-impartial individual. I would appreciate if my contribution to that page were re-added again as if you read them I'm sure you will see they are appropriately sourced and not defamatory. This user is also trying to wrongly report my account simply for making this edit. SunniObserver786 (talk) 13:00, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Photo of Akhtar Raza Khan

[edit]

Dear friend, you cannot simply remove a photo because you say the person in the photo would object to it. That’s not how Wikipedia works. If you personally disagree with the photo you still have no right to impose your view on the Wikipedia community. Best regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 15:42, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. I have read the Wikipedia rules, which state that not all photos are acceptable, such as "those that are unfairly obtained" and "those that unreasonably intrude into the subject's private or family life"[1]. In the case of Akhtar Raza Khan, due to religious beliefs, he prohibited photography[2] and so any photo is a blatant invasion of his privacy. I think the Wikipedia community would understand that his photo is such a sensitive topic and as a compromise, mention can be made either on the page or the talk page about his views on photography which explain why his photo is not displayed. Hope you understand the sensitivity of this matter. SunniObserver786 (talk) 16:58, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
While I can understand your viewpoint there have been unsuccessful attempts to remove this image previously. Individuals can remove the photographs from their rendered display if necessary, which should be sufficient if it upsets you. If you wish to change Wikipedia then ask at WP:TEAHOUSE or other help links above about the correct way to raise an RFC proposal; any other action is likely to be seen as disruptive. There are I things I do not like about WikiPedia policy but it is necessary to go with consensus. Alternatively it may help if you raise Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Islam and perhaps an RFC could be raised at MOS:ISLAM which might allow for a change of policy in particular circumstances — pragmatically I do not think your chances of success are high but I could be wrong. Removing images as you have done here, or poorly raised discussions, may well be seen as disruptive, at worst case leading to a block. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 17:50, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining this. There was no malice intended in removing the photograph, I had no idea previous attempts had already been made to remove the photograph and that such an edit would be so contentious. I will explore the options you have provided to hopefully bring the issue to an amicable conclusion. As mentioned previously, this is not a problem about upsetting me personally but more about respecting the wishes of the deceased and his family.
