Question about article naming, merged systems

I created Rowan–Salisbury School System with an endash between Rowan and Salisbury because I thought that's what should be there. I later see most systems like this use just a hyphen (and sources outside Wikipedia use hyphen). For instance, Alamance-Burlington School System uses a hyphen. Basically, I thought that since Rowan and Salisbury were two separate municipalities (county and city) that there should be an endash there. However, since this name really applies more to the school systems being merged, I just started to wonder. Is there a guideline on this. I've seen WP:HYPHEN and WP:ENDASH, etc., but was unsure. Currently leaning towards changing it to be dash, but wanted to find out from others which would be more appropriate there because this could affect other article names. WP:ENDASH says "A hyphen is used by default in compounded proper names of single entities", but I can see why it's confusing. I'd go with a hyphen here since a school district is a single entity, similar to "McGraw-Hill". In looking at the school district's website, they appear to use a hyphen instead of the en-dash. Now, if the two were separate districts and had some kind of cooperative effort, then I'd use an en-dash, similar to the example of the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. --JonRidinger (talk) 03:34, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Dash vs. hyphen dispute has been a long running dispute within the Wikipedia community - there was only recently a proposal for a moratorium on discussion/page moving over the issue. While I have never seen a school related article reach the level of move warring that Mexican–American War once did, I would advise anyone thinking of switching school related article titles from hyphens to dashes or vice versa to approach the issue very carefully. If you do move the page and are reverted, I would strongly recommend leaving it and moving on. CT Cooper · talk 17:41, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

I think I will change it to a hyphen on the Rowan-Salisbury article (Don't think it will be reverted since it appears that I'm the only one editing on it, but you never know). Request for help

Folks, we received an e-mail from a teacher about an article created as a school project: Hlfs ursprung. Obviously it needs a lot of work (formatting and referencing to name but two areas), but rather than load it up with maintenance templates and risk discouraging the article's creator, would someone who has time please take a look at and see what can be done? I have looked over the article- and looked at the very much shorter article on de:Wikipedia, and it is difficult to know where to start. I have the impression that much of the article is a copyvio that has been mechanically translated. There are clues in phrases like 'We are proud of our...' that suggest that much comes from this FE colleges substantial website. Even the title is problematic- Hlfs Ursprung would seem to be more accurate. Basic facts are hidden, like the number on role and the age of entry. May be this would be better approached by encourage the enthusiastic editors to improve the article themselves.

  • Go througn and add references in the simple <ref>origin of this fact in plain text</ref> form.
  • Rewrite each sentence in English- removing the Denglisch structures
The fear of getting involved lies in the vast range of spin off articles needed to do the subject justice, and the corrections needed to articles visited. Categories that need creating

As a side-effect of something else I was doing, I found myself with a list of ~5000 categories to which articles had been assigned but the categories did not exist, it's probably about 15% of the total red-link categories. It was easy enough to apply a few crude filters to them to split out 40 or so relevant to this Project. Some of them need bringing in line with Wikipedia standard formats, some of them are probably too detailed, some might need some Project discussion about what standard format should be applied - but they could all do with eyeballs from several people, particularly ones who know more about US high schools than I do!!! I made some comments in the list, but reviewing these is not going to be trivial and then you need to check the naming and look to see if they have sufficient content to create a category. I looked at a several and they fell into three groups. Misnamed categories, categories that probably make sense to create and categories that in my opinion should not exist. So if anyone is going to look at this list they should not act without really doing some digging. Also some were empty when I checked and others were user pages under development with errors. Eight free items in education in Canada infobox?

Can someone associated with this project please glance at Template:Infobox education in Canada and its history and Talk page? Another editor recently added four additional free items to that template bringing the total number of free items to eight. I contend that is a ridiculous number of free items for this (or any other) infobox and it indicates that either the template needs to be edited or someone is trying to add material that shouldn't be in the infobox. The original editor has not responded and I'd appreciate a sanity check because this seems like a very clear issue to me. Thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 21:38, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Gymnasium zum grauen Kloster, Berlin

the geographic coordinates given for this school are incorrect. Those currently listed are the location that the school occupied before World War II. The successor to that school, which was in the center of Berlin near the city hall (so-called Red City Hall, on Alexanderplatz), is now in on the west side of town, in the district of Schmargendorf. The correct coordinates are 52.485822,13.293056.

I can't figure out how to change coordinates...text edits are easy and I do them all time!

Any way to watch for ads?

Articles of educational institutions suffer from a clear problem - the institutions themselves spamming them, in the delusion that they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. As such, since this project deals with such a wide range of articles, I was wondering whether anything was possibly set up to watch for such incidences.

If not, would anyone know of any easy way to compile a list of all of these articles in order to watchlist? -- Mentifisto 21:55, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

There is a dedicated watchlist maintained by the Toolserver although it may be slow at times. This link provides a constantly updated list of all changes to school articles. If you wish to monitor school pages regularly, you can put this link on your own user page too. It also helps to catch vandalism and spam.

VisualEditor is coming

The WP:VisualEditor is designed to let people edit without needing to learn wikitext syntax. The articles will look (nearly) the same in the new edit "window" as when you read them (aka WYSIWYG), and changes will show up as you type them, very much like writing a document in a modern word processor. The devs currently expect to deploy the VisualEditor as the new site-wide default editing system in early July 2013.

About 2,000 editors have tried out this early test version so far, and feedback overall has been positive. Right now, the VisualEditor is available only to registered users who opt-in, and it's a bit slow and limited in features. You can do all the basic things like writing or changing sentences, creating or changing section headings, and editing simple bulleted lists. It currently can't either add or remove templates (like fact tags), ref tags, images, categories, or tables (and it will not be turned on for new users until common reference styles and citation templates are supported). These more complex features are being worked on, and the code will be updated as things are worked out. Also, right now you can only use it for articles and user pages. When it's deployed in July, the old editor will still be available and, in fact, the old edit window will be the only option for talk pages (I believe that WP:Notifications (aka Echo) is ultimately supposed to deal with talk pages).

The developers are asking editors like you to join the alpha testing for the VisualEditor. Please go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing and tick the box at the end of the page, where it says "Enable VisualEditor (only in the main namespace and the User namespace)". Save the preferences, and then try fixing a few typos or copyediting a few articles by using the new "Edit" tab instead of the section [Edit] buttons or the old editing window (which will still be present and still work for you, but which will be renamed "Edit source"). Fix a typo or make some changes, and then click the 'save and review' button (at the top of the page). See what works and what doesn't. We really need people who will try this out on 10 or 15 pages and then leave a note Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback about their experiences, especially if something mission-critical isn't working and doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar.

Also, if any of you are involved in template maintenance or documentation about how to edit pages, the VisualEditor will require some extra attention. The devs want to incorporate things like citation templates directly into the editor, which means that they need to know what information goes in which fields. Obviously, the screenshots and instructions for basic editing will need to be completely updated. The old edit window is not going away, so help pages will likely need to cover both the old and the new.

Despite its title, this is an arts education project and school in Burkina Faso started by a German film director and and run by a German charitable foundation. I bannered it with this project, vis-a-vis its education aspect. If anyone here wants to take a look at it, it needs drastic copy-editing as it currently reads like a news release. Standalone lists of alumni

A number of standalone lists of alumni of Sri Lankan schools have been nominated for merger back into the schools' articles. The nominator has suggested that any standalone list must have at least 100 entries. This project's comments are welcome:

Some sort of cut-off number makes sense, and 100 is not unreasonable. I would also question how many people there are on some of those lists anyway. Few have WP articles. Although many of the names are referenced, too many of those individuals concerned look unlikely to be able to merit a WP article. So, my view would be to prune back the lists and merge them into the school articles. Edwardx (talk)
That makes sense. And just because a list is allowed to be standalone according to guidelines doesn't mean it should. Doing what's best for visitors is our first consideration. I think we should look at the parent article and the list article and decide. There is an inherent bias on Wikipedia and prominent people from countries like Sri Lanka are much less likely to have their own Wikipedia articles than people with trivial accomplishments from a country like the USA. I think it helps the reader to have the names included in such articles so long as the entry can be referenced and it is clear from the reference that the person is of sufficient note. The inclusion of names might also help to encourage the creation of articles. Dahliarose (talk) 17:07, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
@Anna Frodesiak - I agree with you, we should look each article separately rather than follow a "one size fits all" rule. I note that User:Cossde has gone ahead with mergers even though this discussion is still ongoing. But his over-zealous actions do help us decide if the alumni list "overloads" the parent article. I list below the size of the parent article before and after the alumni list has been merged:
So bytewise the first four articles (and possibly Rahula College) are overloaded by the alumni list, the others aren't.
@Dahliarose - You are absolutely right that so many notable people from non-English speaking countries do not have articles. This is undoubtedly due to there being so few active editors from non-English speaking countries - I can probably count the number of active Sri Lankan editors on one hand. Having these notable people on lists will help encourage editors, even editors who aren't familiar with subject, to create the articles.--obi2canibetalk contr 14:24, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

By "bytewise" I mean if the parent article is already huge and cannot accomodate more bytes. (Oh, and some articles get smaller in your list above. I don't understand that.)
In terms of dwarfing the rest of the content, in some cases the alumni sections are big compared to the rest of the content, but the benefits of a single article weighs heavier.
My reasons for a section within are: convenience to visitors and increased viewing. I still haven't heard your reason why these should be standalone lists. Please tell us. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:51, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying what you meant "bytewise". My main reason for having separate articles is to avoid giving too much weight to the alumni list in the school article. In the case of the first four articles, the alumni lists dominate the articles. The school article has in effect becomes a list of alumni with a little bit about the school. WP:SPLITTING recommends splitting when "a section of an article has a length that is out of proportion to the rest of the article".--obi2canibetalk contr 18:25, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
That makes good sense, and some of the sections are uncomfortably big. It's a case of lesser of two evils. I'll tell you what, let's settle the inclusion criteria thing and then get back to this. If consensus is to prune the lists down, then the proportion problem may be settled. If not, I'd be happy to see some of the most out of proportion ones split off to standalones. Would that be okay? No really true. The columns are dynamic in that they will flow based on the size of the display or browser window. Try reducing yours in size or even make it the size of a 4x3 display. You will see how the list changes based on those changes. I will agree that it may be necessary to make the columns a tad wider. Feel free to adjust the width parameter. Inclusion criteria
Tough call. Only allowing items with articles hurts per inherent bias, but a freeforall means bloated lists of non-notables and periodic googling and pruning. We could try an invisible comment with likely limited success. Suggestions? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:59, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
My view is that as long as an entry complies with WP:NLIST and WP:LISTPEOPLE it can be included irrespective of the whether it has an article or not. The tough bit will be deciding if an entry is notable.--obi2canibetalk contr 19:07, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Those are the primary way of dealing with these sorts of things, yes. In terms of whether an entry is notable it's probably best to assume that if it's not a hoax and the notability seems reasonable then it probably is notable. I seem to recall that, for some reason, the way things are dealt with at List of Old Harrovians and Harrow School has been held up as an example of a good way of dealing with stuff. I note that there are some on the list there who don't have articles - yet they seem reasonable in terms of notability to me. It's entirely reasonable to suggest that in non-English speaking areas of the world we're much less likely to have articles on people who would be notable if they were British or American. In theory I suppose all on a list should be cited as well for that matter - that will be much more difficult for non-English speaking areas of the world again.
It's also worth pointing out that categories can also be quite useful in such instances - although this doesn't help if people don't have an article of course.
In terms of the number of people needed to get a list going - to be honest I'm not sure there needs to be any quantitative criteria here. It strikes me that it's much more important to judge things case by case. If it feels that it does then go for it - for example, at this diff for Westcliff High School for Boys I felt the list needed to go to its own article. Increasing imbalance and need for list of principals in Jaffna Hindu College

Regarding Jaffna Hindu College: This is just one of the group with expanding lists. If we can sort this one out, it could give us an idea of how to treat the others.

So, should the alumni list break away? Are the items all notable? Should the list of principals be there? Is the imbalance in section sizes worth it to avoid inconveniencing visitors with a standalone list? Is the imbalance a big issue? Two recently-created articles on American elementary schools

Pine Valley Elementary School and Haw creek elementary school
Keeping in mind that their creator is a fairly-new editor, I'm not sure what should be done with this content. There are no claims of notability, the single reference in each is to an official website of some sort (one website is not for the school itself, but to its county or state), they do not seem to be notable enough for standalone articles...perhaps a redirect into their school districts or something similar? It seems to me that they would either need re-directs or perhaps even the two articles would be CSD'ed or PROD'ed... Shearonink (talk) 00:50, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

California University of Business and Technology

California University of Business and Technology (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) began as a flagrant copyright violation (all the mission statements, etc) and although it was removed it was replaced. It's pretty heavily edited by editors with obvious COIs, as is pretty normal for school articles, and there has been at least one attempt to claim it's accredited, a claim that is not on the web site. Yesterday I removed the copyvio, replaced a 2010 primary sources tag, and (to my mind) clarified what it means to be California state approved. An IP deleted that bit, and then an account (obviously the same as the IP, reinserted the copyvio. I removed it this morning and reinstated my 'clarification', and I've just been reverted again (all the edit summaries suggest the editor doesn't like me). Woodstock Special School

Another editor created Woodstock Special School. Since the school serves children to the age of 11, it would normally be redirected to the education section of the article on the community. (Since this school is in England, there is no school district article to which this article could be redirected.) An argument against redirecting the article is that the school is for kids with behavior issues, so it is not a "garden variety" primary school. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 20:05, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't really know what to do about this. It certainly seems to be rather promotional for an encyclopedia article, but it's knowing what to cut out. The only section in notables I am still having problems with is "Scholars, scientists, and inventors". And frankly, I feel a bit out of my league trying to evaluate the references for that one. Another SPA has re-added some entries (the redlinks) and added some references. I had gone through them and redlinked the ones that appeared notable, but the SPA decided to put back the ones I deleted and redlinked them too. All with no discussion. It is getting pretty frustrating. The history section looks kind of dubious too, and since their claim of founding date has them in the 10 oldest high schools in the US, I would like to see some secondary sourcing. This article is a monster of sports results. While I appreciate that emphasis on sports in American schools (according to the majority of Wikipedia articles) is more important than academic achievement, these lists are really OTT and are stuff for the school's magazine. I delinked a lot of nn primary schools at List of schools in Victoria, Australia , some of which had direct inline links to their websites. As far as I know, unlinking primary schools that are not likely to have articles is the norm. I know I have done that in the past along with other editors. I seem to remember a few objections, but when explained to the editors who had questions, they seemed to accept not having links for all of these schools. As far as providing external links, I don't think that is needed since we should have an article on the organization that operates the schools (with the exception of some small organizations) and the school can be covered there, all be in maybe only a mention. This could also be handled in the list, take a look at List of Clark County School District schools which provides space for notes about the school which minimizes the temptation to create an article. This has already been explained to you several times and with links to relevant guidelines and the use of external links. In short: Wikipedia is not a link farm to non notable organisations. Anything in Wikipedia that does not conform to guidelines will eventually be addressed, but please understand that the workload here is voluntary, and different users have different priorities for the time they spend with their editing; we, the coordinators and participants of this schools project do our best, but there are tens of thousands of school articles, schools lists, and school district pages and our time is also limited. If you would like to help remove the spamlinks, please do so; you may also like to add the schools' localities pages to the school entries if you have time, and link to them in the correct manner shown. My issue is that while stating that you were only deleting Redlinks you have deleted Bluelinks as well, something that you later said you did on purpose as well. Hampstead School controversy

Those of you in London may have heard about the controversy involving the blog criticizing the Hampstead School. It is now worthy of attention due to the national UK-level press coverage. Please ensure it remains in the article.

This is also a lesson to school administrators in general. They need to be careful about the "Streisand effect" as taking punitive action can generate newspaper articles which means the school controversy becomes Wikipedia-worthy and will be recorded forever. Can someone who is knowledgeable about the Wikipedia editing process and has a confirmed account please update the page for Coginchaug Regional High School? I am annoyed by the lack of content (such as a picture of the school's mascot, the Blue Devils - it simply shows a map of Middlesex county at this time and it would be nice to see some more identifying information - even the town seal or Regional District # 13 logo would be better than that! Also, the out of date website - which should be http://crhs.rsd13ct.org - is out of date, so the link does not work). I am not able to do so myself as my account is unconfirmed and the formatting is somewhat confusing to me so I do not want to make an error.

3A high school

Many articles about US schools contain the phrase "3A high school" or something similar. I can't find anything relevant in the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A or 5A disambiguation pages. Is there an article that explains it? Peter James (talk) 22:19, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

University Interscholastic League explains the classes for Texas. It appears that lots of states have similar classifications of schools by size, but each with their own criteria. Kanguole 22:37, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Ohio High School Athletic Association has a brief section that mentions the divisions (Ohio uses numbers like the NCAA does with Division I being the largest schools and so on, but they vary by sport...football has seven divisions, but some sports just have one), but not in great detail. In school articles that mention the size classification (which, in many states, can extend beyond athletics), it should be mentioned what the classification is for. Doesn't need to be a bunch of details about it, but something like "the school competes in class 3A, the third largest size classification in the state." Better articles for each state's athletic or activity classification should be available as well to link to. --JonRidinger (talk) 23:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Middle schools

There is a current trend in regard to middle schools in Houston to restore formerly redirected middle school articles. See Pin Oak Middle School and the AfD discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pershing Middle School (Houston). I personally see no reason why middle schools can't all have articles, but that is not what has been decided. What I find disturbing is the sourcing that is being held up as sufficient to show notability for these schools. Basically, no middle school would be expected to have much of any coverage outside the local area. Conversely, all middle schools (public ones anyway) will have some coverage locally. Both of the above mentioned schools are being claimed as notable because they were used as an example in an academic study, one for a book and one for a reviewed paper. I do not see that as the detailed coverage that WP:ORG would require. Just as easily, another school could have been used. Because the author of the studies chose these schools does not speak to their notability IMHO. Would it be appropriate to discuss a change of wording in the school article guidelines notability section to state that a middle school needs to show "exceptional" notability? What I had in mind is a school on the NRHP, or a school where something truly historic occurred, or possibly a school where some new educational approach that has stood the test of time started.

I guess what I am trying to say is, either they do or they don't. In the two cases at hand, I do not see anything being brought forth that says anymore than the schools exist and someone noticed. Well, they do exist and someone will notice. I think some more restrictive wording on the guideline will help alleviate that. Gtwfan52 (talk) 22:33, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

I've been following those issues too. What we need to understand is that local coverage about a new classroom block being built, do not assert notability irrespective of how many local newspapers or webs sites reported it. Nor is notability inhereited from an otherwise notable teacher who won a national life saving award or a notable former student who handed out the prizes on on Parents' Day. There is too much use of sources and scraping the Internet for fleeting mentions in attempts to make some schools notable. Such schools need to be notable for something they have done. It would be better to accept almost all schools as "encyclopedic," and to stop worrying about "notability." American public schools and many private school campuses are included in the GNIS, our most official gazetteer. The only real question for me is whether there is enough encyclopedic information to require an article, rather than an annotated entry in a school district or locale article. I know that, between state and federal databases and newspaper stories about siting, construction, bond issues, and elections, every public school in California has too much encyclopedic information to squeeze into a list. OTOH, many of the rocks, ravines, and subdivisions in the GNIS should be in lists, since all we know is their location and elevation. --Hjal (talk) 03:15, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Mead Junior High

Please see Mead Junior High. I gather that this is a junior high school in Chicago. The page contained a redirect to Community Consolidated School District 54, but it also contained several sections worth of content. I removed the redirect, resulting in a page that does not have sufficient context to identify the subject. If more content can be added, the page may become an article. Otherwise, it would probably be best to restore the redirect and remove all other content. (Redirects with additional, invisible content cause problems for various editing tools.) Could use attention. This was supposed to be merged into Pequannock Township High School after an AfD in 2009, but that never happened. This dif[1] shows the difference between its state at the AfD and now. Perhaps it should stay, but it's badly written and even says "This page was produced by a fellow PTHS band member." I've just removed a paragraph added years ago claiming judges were biased. It's a bit odd it isn't even mentioned at [[Pequannock Township High School].  DoneThe Howard School and The Howard Grammar High School - an article about a secondary school in Kent recently unilaterally redirected to an implausible name in order that an article about a secondary school in Atlanta can usurp the "better" name. Both articles are sourced to only a single non-independent reference, but the Atlanta one is also wildly promotional (and probably needs checking for text copyvio as well). December 2012.
Sorted, but some page renaming may be needed. The Howard School was originally about a school in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 2008 an editor did a cut-and-paste move, replacing the original content with information about the UK school. The same editor copied that information to The Howard School (United States). I put things back to how they were a few days ago, but clearly the creator of the US article, who did the move a couple of days ago, is miffed about his article being usurped, so it may be better to consider some renaming, e.g. The Howard School being a disambiguation page, then the articles themselves being moved to The Howard School (Kent) and The Howard School (Atlanta, Georgia). --Bob Re-born (talk) 22:37, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Really, The article is currently at Howard School (Rainham, Kent, England) and The Howard School (Kent) is a red link and should remain so as The Howard is no longer a Kent school. It is a Medway School. As we disamb by LEA not ceremonial county The Howard School (Medway) would be more appropriate. The possibility of using the locality is fraught with danger- The Howard School (Rainham Mark) would work but The Howard School (Rainham ) won't due to the proximity of Rainham (Essex)! As you can see, the admin who sorted out the page history also sorted out a bunch of renaming. While this isn't 100% perfect it is much better than we had before. So, for example, The Howard School is now a redirect to the disambiguation page Howard School where the two (Kent and Atlanta) schools can be found. Sourcing and footnotes in lists of alumni at Wasilla High School

There is a disagreement at Talk:Wasilla High School#Palins about whether a list of notable alumni should include in-line sources footnotes. WP:ALUMNI says those footnotes are not "required" if the notability of the person is covered in their own article, but some editors maintain that means footnotes are disfavored, or disallowed, while others believe in-line sourcing should be added when possible. Notability question

I have deleted the list of "notable stundents" from MES's M. M. College of Arts and Science, Sirsi as there was no indication as to why they are notable and the list was unsourced. Sure, I have little time but glad to give you a few pointers. On principle, I have never touched US side articles - but I am willing to suggest directions from a European perspective.
  • Sign-up as an editor. You will then get a talk page, and our helpful bots will warn you of errors and phopahs. Excellent- as they save time in the long rum.
  • Worry. Wikipedia articles must be notable (schools are), they must not read like advertising copy or be used as puff pieces. You have done right to declare that you have an indirect pecunary interest- that covers you if challenged. Keep it factual.
  • Everything that goes into the article must come from a secondary source. A company report is a (primary source)- the Town newspaper reporting this is a secondary source. (Better to include a primary reference than none at all then fight your corner)
  • Everything must be referenced - that means a reference per paragraph- and one for each 'wow' fact. So how do you do it- look at any article I have created and you will see a list of books under the heading Bibliography, (each has an author and a year) I use the template you get by pressing the {{}} button top left editor. Now the clever bit- when I want to insert a reference, I type {{sfn}} actually {{t|sfn|name|year|p= XX}}. We will help you out if it doesn't work first time.
  • Add wikilinks to other articles. (Better to over-link when you are starting.)
  • There are many terms you use that may need separate articles written, these acronyms are your bread and butter but meaningless outside your sector. It is really exciting to get them all explained on wikipedia- it fills a hole.

By the way, don't create an account called "LincolnSchoolsWiki" or anything similar, that would get blocked promptly. Something like "GregWorkingForLS" would be fine, but it's not compulsory to choose something so specific.

ClemRutter is also correct that another approach is to copy the existing article into a draft space, make the desired edits, and then point others to the updated copy so they can see exactly what edits you are proposing and how they would integrate with the rest of the article. If you do, it's often helpful for us if you can be very explicit about the changes that made so we don't have to spend a lot of time going back-and-forth from the original article to your proposed version to determine what has changed (and, unfortunately, we often have to check to see if other changes were made and are trying to be slipped into the article unnoticed). I'm glad I found this topic. I'm looking for help on Central Elementary School (Albemarle, North Carolina). Others have accepted that the historic building makes it notable. It's not on the NRHP as far as I know, but the extensive work done on it might be a problem if it were nominated. There is an effort underway to get the old Central School building nominated (Central was in one building from 1900 or earlier until 2007, and in 2007 moved into a building built in 1925. But here is where I need help: one of the people who helped with the article can't understand it and has made some unconstructive edits. Request for a correction of School Name In Wikipedia

Desouza's School shouldn't be referred as Desouza's English Medium School, Rourkela. Instead it Should and is only referred as Desouza's School only. It's a English Medium School and everyone knows it but it isn't referred as so. Because when abbreviated it short name is DEMS ( Deepika English Medium School) which is already a school in Rourkela and mainly referred as "DEMS". It can tend to create a lot of confusion across people trying to find it or try to use it in abbreviated form. The school is only referred as "Desouza's School" and Rourkela is the town in which its situated. One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Nothing to do with COI editing, but I have noticed a couple of school articles recently, that appear to be totally unsourced promotional leaflets just like this one. This is unfamiliar territory for me so I thought I'd ask. Is this acceptable? In other areas where I have a little experience an unsourced article like this wouldn't last five minutes without being pared back to a stub. Suggestion - Examples for Template:Infobox school/doc

Here is a suggestion. I have added a list of examples for Template:Infobox school/doc. The examples were added for the following reasons:

  • To help reduce confusion of understanding how the template can be used.
  • Help make users have an actual representation and usage of what information to include in infoboxes.
  • Some examples follow guidelines or standards and actual usage by schools
  • The idea was from Template:Infobox UK school/doc which had some examples listed in a table.
  • Also consider the amount of parameters and fields that makes the template confusing. If a user misunderstands on how to use the parameters and fields for a particular school of a country that affects on how the information can be used correctly. I'm not entirely sure what's going on here, but I think we should have a discussion before making any major changes to the documentation. Being bold is great, but this is ultimately a collaborative project and so when there's disagreement, all editors should be willing to discuss it until consensus is reached. That may take some time. Suggestion: Adding section for FIRST Robotics?

I, and thousands of others, can speak from experience when I say that FIRST is at least as formative, and important to local culture, as art/music programs, which I know that you (collectively) endorse sections for.

Unfortunately, at the moment it is not part of the standard to add this sort of section. Worse still, it fits under none of the current categories:

Not athletic, because despite being a very sport-like competition, it involves little physical labor (during the competitive aspects)

Not music, for obvious reasons.

Not co-curricular, because the teams are often loosely associated with the school, simply because the school cannot pay for the entire program (and in many/most cases does not pay for anything but the head mentor).

Not curriculum, because it is almost never taught as a class (though there are exceptions).

So you can see the conundrum that many face, upon both wishing to be recognized, and being a significant part of the culture (in some places for more than a decade), but having a general lack of awareness from the larger community (as in outside the town).

It would seem the best place would be to put it in with other activities at the school, such as the debate team. Include it in a simple list of activities. Thank you for taking care of that Kudpung. Would it be acceptable to add that school to WP:WPSCH#E? I've tried to find some third-party sources to support what is written, but haven't had much luck. Most of what I see is either primary stuff (i.e., from the school's official website) or from user generated sites like this, this, and this. There seems to have been a terrible incident involving one of the school's student, and there is some newspaper coverage of that, but not sure how much of that needs to be or should be included in an article about the school itself. Also, the page seems to have been targeted by various IPs, perhaps former students, etc., so it has seen it's share of vandalism. Do you have any suggestions on possible ways to improve the article, or ideas as to where to try and find some more reliable sources? You can add it to WP:WPSCH#E if you like but it's no guarantee that it will get any dedicated attention. In its current cast the article is a fairly respectable school stub. If there is more information of a neutral kind that can be added, the article can grow to the stature of our more complete school articles per WP:WPSCH/AG, but there is little to be gained by forcing its expansion in a way that turns it into tabloid style drama - which is unfortunately what a lot of people think an encyclopedia is for. If there is dirty washing to be hung out, it can be done on external sites and there's not even any need to link to them. Checking over the editing history, there doesn't appear to be any recent interference to be of immediate concern. Keep it on your watchlist though and report any blatant vandalism to WP:AIV. I stumbled across the article the other day by chance (I was checking on something I read at the Teahouse) and removed an EL I thought was inappropriate. There appears to be at least a few editors working on trying to improve the page, and there's even been a suggestion to merge it with Summit Children's Residence Center. I'm sure everything will eventually be sorted out one way or another and multiple people will be watching the page in case the IPs come back. This list of "school redirects" eliminated thousands of hours of work on individual school pages, without a means of recourse. This is an outrage where as of now over 1750 school pages have been thrown away..see for yourself. These are not all STUBS. My school page had 9500 characters and was visited by many in our community. Notability is in the eye of the beholder, not some faraway editors view of what should be NOTABLE.

As the editor who redirect our school page states, "This page contains information on the reasons User:JaconaFrere will revert edits and is NOT a Wikipedia policy or guideline, but rather one user's explanation on their use of rollback." DavidPickett (talk) 07:42, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Listing of Administrators a violation of WP:NMCHK

Would listing principals/officials at a school be a violation of Wikipedia:Namechecking? I've also noticed in some instances where several vice administrators with no real notability are included in an infobox. I came across this article by chance, and saw that it mostly relies on primary sources. So, I added a {{primary sources}} tag to it. I then noticed that it also the article also contains 9 infoboxes, one for each school it discusses. I'm not too familiar with school-related articles, but I've never multiple infoboxes used like this before in any Wikipedia article. Is this something commonly done with school-related stuff? For example, there are ten campuses (schools) in the University of California system and each of these are discussed in some detail throughout the article, but none are provided with their own infobox. In addition to it's over reliance on primary sources, the "Atomic Energy Central School" article seems to have problems such as embedded citations and quite a bit of unsourced content, but the number of infoboxes seems to be what really stands out. I have seen multiple infoboxes like that in articles on US school districts, but only very rare occasions. The better solution would be to make a chart to organize the information for all the schools rather than a chain of infoboxes (I've done one at Kent City School District#Facilities as an example) or just a list. Usually, multiple infoboxes is the result of non-notable schools (elementary and middle schools) getting merged into the district, diocese, or local jurisdiction (county, town, city, etc.) article and rather than organize that info, editors just left the infobox they moved from the redirected articles. In cases like the University of California, the various campuses are notable on their own, so they have larger articles and each section has a "Main article" link at the top. In this case, and at this point, there doesn't seem to be enough sources to warrant splitting all nine into separate articles, so it's just a case of organizing the info better and finding some secondary sources.
As for the content itself, the saving grace is that the article is generally not making any outstanding claims about the schools, like them being the best at something or going on about a specific program's accomplishments. Most is just a little bit of history, the grade levels at the school, and classes offered, i.e., not controversial or questionable info. Secondary school articles tend to have quite a few primary sources just because some of the finer details (like classes offered and even demographic data) aren't often covered in secondary sources. I found two embedded links (which, in the bigger picture, isn't that bad...I've seen much worse!), and one of them can be removed easily since it's also used as a citation and the other is just the Wikimap location.
Best recommendation would be to make one infobox for the system and then have a chart for all the schools combined (can even have a place for photos), and then the sections just need basic cleanup. The state of this article is very similar to a lot of school articles. Again, I've seen much worse, like articles dominated by sports or with loads of weasel words and boosterism and/or full of other uncited extraordinary claims.--JonRidinger (talk) 03:15, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

International schools that have closed due to war/conflict?

It would be interesting to do research into international schools that have permanently closed due to war or conflict? Weren't there such schools in Baghdad, Iraq or Damascus, Syria? Afghanistan? The former Yugoslavia?

I just wanted to mention this discussion taking place about whether 60 or so articles on Korean colleges should be deleted for lack of notability. I'm against these proposed deletions based on the manner in which they were nominated, though I agree that some of the schools may not be notable enough to be included on Wikipedia. Yes there are, and yes it is! The guidelines you seek I believe are WP:USCITY, which are maintained by the Cities project. IMHO, the private school section needs references for each entry, and the last one needs to have all the address info removed. The whole education section needs layout work and cleanup. If I were editing it, I would remove all the public schools except the high schools, move the Catholic high school to private schools, add info on the school district and make sure all the districts and all the high school level schools were wikilinked, red or blue. Do these count as international schools?

There are Russian overseas schools that use a Russian curriculum and are operated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They take children of diplomats for free. Some schools allow other families to send kids there on a tuition basis, and some say that they can only get non-diplomat kids if the ambassador approves. In the latter case, would these Russian schools count as "international schools"?

Yes, my understanding of an international school is a school which is catered toward nationals of a particular country living overseas, where the curriculum used is either of their home country or is international in nature (e.g. International Baccalaureate). I wonder if the best way is to see if the Anglophone literature defines it as an international school. I haven't seen any English articles about the Russian schools so far. Please see the List of schools of the Dallas Independent School District. The list looks pretty but I think the editing structure may be complicated for a lot of people, and the info may quickly go out of date. Shouldn't think be a simple list that is easier to edit? I think that the color columns that show grades are the only problem. Using six colored cells for a junior/senior high school is no more informative than "7-12." International schools and navigation templates

Hey guys! I am making regional navigation templates for international schools. I base the templates largely on how different agencies subdivide schools:

So far I have single templates for Spanish, Pakistani, Indian, etc. international schools (for countries which don't have as many international schools)

AFAIK I don't know of a single formal organization for American and British international schools. Instead there seem to be individual agencies focusing on geographic regions, so I will focus on making templates oriented around those agencies.

Sometimes the geographical designations aren't exactly the same. For example: The AEFE splits Latin America into three pieces. The ZfA has "Central America" in one zone and "South America" in another. MEXT puts all of Latin America into one zone. This is reflected in the templates.

As for reasons why I'm focusing on international schools this month:

  • 1. These templates and articles can be "bridges" connecting geographic regions together. Someone may find interest in an international school in, say, Lima, and then encounter a template that encourages her/him to find out more about the local Peruvian schools. Or somebody looking at schools in Brussels may encounter one of the international schools and find himself/herself looking at info about German schools in Europe.
  • 2. International schools are often studied by academics, especially if they have unique programs. Liceo Mexicano Japones in Mexico City is one example of a school with many papers written about it.
  • 3. These international schools often have broader interest bases: Both among locals in the city where they are located and expatriates in other countries.
  • 4. Some Wikipedias have much stricter notability policies on schools. Having articles in the English Wikipedia makes up for not being able to have articles in the native language(s).
  • 5. There is a possibility of recruiting students at these schools. I started Wikipedia as I entered the 9th grade (first year of upper secondary education in the United States). High school students at these schools are wealthy enough to have the proper equipment and likely have enough free time to edit Wikipedia, and I think high school's a good time to learn how to be an editor. In addition they may be fluent in multiple languages, allowing them to translate material and edit multiple editions of Wikipedia. They may also frequently travel, allowing them to take photographs useful for the Commons. As they grow up they may establish programs to teach other people how to edit Wikipedia, and this may trickle down to locals of the host countries of these schools.

According to school article common outcomes notability is presumed when the school serves senior high school/sixth form level. The text clearly says the article serves up to age 18. That means it does, in fact, assert notability, and A7 is not appropriate. I think the deletion should be reversed ASAP. If there are questions about the notability, please let an AFD take its course.

Ok, I reviewed the article, the above link you provided, and other relevant information. First off, the link you provide WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES is clearly stated as an Essay, and not a substitute for an assertion of notability. Secondly, I reviewed WP:NSCHOOL which says that is must meet the notability requirements of WP:ORG (which it CLEARLY does not). I guess for some unknown reason, a 3 line article about a school only citing itself, nowhere in the article stating why it is notable is exempt from WP:A7, so you will have to forgive me as I have speedy deleted many many other articles with far more content than this. I reversed my early close, but strongly disagree with the above statement which you cite from an essay that says "...notability is presumed...". WP:NSCHOOL clearly says that they must adhere to WP:ORG which it blatantly fails. The article is 3 lines long, citing only its website, and in no way provides even a modicum of evidence why it is more than a building, in a foreign country, that people spend time in. @Chrislk02: I found a source which gives some information on the school's German curriculum program and I'll add it shortly. Anyway, Chris, I think it may help to consider why the common outcome is "keep" even if the articles only have enough citations to establish their existence, rather than enough to satisfy WP:ORG. In other words, even though the page is technically just an "essay" it reflects the actual practice of the editors on Wikipedia. Do you want me to try to find some sample high school AFDs? The problem that I am concerned with is a "turn the other way" mentality. Just because it is the way that it happens most of the time does not mean it is the best thing overall for the project (There are many times in history where the "status quo" was overturned based on a principle (think suffrage, slavery as extreme examples). In the cases I mention, somebody said "I know this is the way things are done, but, based on this principle (e.g. equal human rights), it should be changed." At the end of the day, the content in that article is un encyclopedic, per the WP:DUCK test application of WP:NOTABILITY (the underlying principle based on the identity of Wikipedia as an encyclopedia). I read your additions, and trust me, props for going to the work to find them, but at the end of the day, if I were to show somebody that article and say "Did it come from an encyclopedia", or "from the summary of a PTA meeting", I suspect many people would select the latter. That a school had a difficulty finding a german teacher with the potential that the German classes would have to be cancelled is not encyclopedic, regardless of whether prior articles on schools have been kept or deleted? @Chrislk02: IMO if you think the whole practice of keeping these high school articles is flawed, it may be best to start a village pump discussion or a sort of wider discussion in the WP:Common outcomes page. Otherwise other editors who are accustomed to seeing these articles generally be a part of the encyclopedia for years and years will be asking questions. There are cases where a subject is "automautically presumed notable" and the AFD is treated as being negative. Consider Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Northern_Mariana_Islands_Department_of_Public_Safety as a similar example. This was the state of the article when it was AFD'ed.
I went ahead and did a search for high school AFDs. They largely stopped after 2010. There was one case where a public school was merged into the larger school district: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Creekside High School (Utah) (2013) but "common outcomes" was invoked here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chittaranjan English Medium high school. This cases ended as a no consensus: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oakhill Christian School

Please help

I don't know anything about this project, but reviewing articles about schools and continually tagging them for no references and issues related to biographies of living persons is starting to wear on me. Doesn't there have to be a reference for every claim for notable alumni? A list of staff? How does a school article get through the creation process with no sources whatsoever? I use STIki, a editing difference, semi-automated program that continually alerts me to school articles with few to no references. I am tired of nominating these for deletion because it seems as if this WikiProject lets anyone create an article with questionable notability and few references. What do you want me to do when I find a school article with no references? What do you want me to do when I find a school article containing names of living people with no references? I really want to help, but don't know how to proceed. Please don't tell me to find references on schools, I would rather drink all the water out of my fishtank. I've read the archives of past discussions on this topic and the water is even muddier (but not in my fishtank). Best Regards,

Don't nominate the article for deletion just because you don't want to find the references yourself. (Secondary schools are deemed to be notable by default so they will not be deleted.) I'd say, continue to tag articles with no references, or leave that to someone else. Delete any alumni who are not notable enough to have a Wikipedia article of their own. Adding to the above, feel free to also delete any student and staff names except the head of the school (usually the principal in the US) and anyone that is WP:N. Naming a bunch of names of NN people is out of guideline for school articles. And Alarics is mainly correct. I let the editor know that I am reverting their edit due to the lack of references related to the names listed in an article of living persons. I thought I would share it with you here. No no Afd tagging from me for schools but I will tag with no references and delete content about living persons that have no wikipedia article OR have no references. Nav boxes have been set up for 200+ school districts in the U.S.: Category:United States education navigational boxes by state. What does a good school district nav box look like, and what helps determine when one would be useful? Many seem to have only a handful of links to real articles in Wikipedia; many have red links to elementary schools, which will likely always be red links. Contentious article on Newton Public School district -- issues of anti-Semitism. We need serious help.

I was hoping some folk from here might lend a hand on the Newton Public Schools article. There is an edit war going on between me and another editor concerning an edit of theirs. Their edit involves charges of anti-Semitism while I'm protesting that there's way too much space being devoted to the issue and questioning whether the edit is neutral. Please ensure articles on school districts and certain schools in the U.S. and Canada have articles in non-English languages

Those of us from the United States and Canada understand that our education systems absorb the children of immigrants and make them into Americans and Canadians. Part of this process is ensuring their parents know about their children's education and the history and culture of their schools. I have been making an effort to have articles on U.S. and Canadian school districts, as well as select senior high schools, translated into and otherwise established in non-English languages for the benefit of immigrants living in the United States and Canada.

In theory you may write about any school district in any language Wikipedia, and most Wikipedias allow articles on senior high schools. However it is best to focus on whichever languages are most relevant for a particular school district and/or school.

  • Some school districts operate sections of their websites in multiple languages. Determine which languages they are and either: A. start stubs in these languages or B. request native speakers to write Wikipedia article in the relevant languages.
  • Some school districts do not have special websites for particular languages, but they do post translated documents (codes of student conduct, permission forms, meal schedules, dress codes, etc) in multiple languages. Note which languages these forms are printed in. For example while the San Francisco Unified School District has Spanish and Chinese websites, I discovered that it also has documents available in many other languages.
  • Some individual schools have websites and/or forms in other languages. I found Detroit Public Schools listed brochures of individual schools. I noticed Detroit International Academy for Young Women had a brochure in Bengali and discovered that many ethnic Bengali girls attend the school. I asked a Bengali speaker to write an article in Bengali and he did so. Since Lee High School (Houston) had a large number of Spanish speakers I started a Spanish language article.

For those of you who know Spanish: It is the most prevalent second language in U.S. schools, so please get busy with creating and expanding school district articles on the Spanish Wikipedia if you are interested in doing so. There are large numbers of Spanish-speaking immigrants with low English fluency in the United States so Spanish is a very important language for school district articles. I do understand that technically other language Wikipedias are separate from the English Wikipedia. I had to consider what is the best place for a request generally aimed at U.S. and Canadian-based Wikipedians related to article writing. If the majority of American Wikimedia users regularly participated on Meta I would posted there. Since relatively few of them do, I figured that EN was the best place for such a request. I think this is a good idea and that this project talk page is one good place to post it. However, I'm not sure my pitiful Spanish is up to this. How about posting links to sister projects, if any, or to a few good school articles in Spanish and other likely languages? @Hjal: - The Spanish Wikipedia doesn't have an education project, but it does have a USA project: es:Wikiproyecto:Estados Unidos. The founder is a bilingual English-Spanish speaker based in San Diego, California, named Alex (User:Alex357 or es:Usuario:Vrysxy)
The main directory for schools is es:Categoría:Escuelas de Estados Unidos while for school districts it is es:Categoría:Distritos escolares de Estados Unidos
An example of a Spanish translation of a high school article is es:San Diego High School, made by Alex himself
More examples of translations: en:Walled Lake Consolidated Schools near Detroit, Michigan, into Japanese and Arabic: ar:مدارس والد ليك المتحدة and ja:ウォルドレイク学校区 (based off of the fact that the school district published handbooks in these languages)

Of course, since our readers might live in English-speaking countries, we wouldn't want to leave out anything that we already decided was encyclopedic. @Hjal: - It took me awhile but I added the education template to all of the American school district articles on the Spanish Wikipedia. I think now those articles make up a majority of the articles belonging to the Spanish education Wikiproject. BTW es:Liceo Mexicano Japonés may be an idea for a model. I'm still writing stubs on school districts on the Spanish Wikipedia. I usually cite school district documents written in Spanish to show what each district's Spanish name is, and it's also a way of showing that there is a significant Spanish-speaking population in that district. I think primary schools should be held to the same requirements as other non-school organizations, as they almost always die at AFD unless they meet WP:GNG or WP:CORP. Therefore, I am "testing the waters" and looking for "early support" of a new criteria for speedy deletion:

davidwr, there's already a (relativey new) policy that educational institutions are exempt from A7 so it is unlikely that the community will revert a consensus that represents progress/evolution in our way of thinking. Also, we do not delete legitimate schools either; if they are simply not notable, as is the case of most primary and middle schools, they are redirected, an alternative that is supported by our deletion policy and evidenced by several thousand redirects of school articles. Elementary school articles

I thought there are not supposed to be articles for elementary schools. I noticed some vandalism today at Zachary Lane Elementary School, apparently made by an IP editor at the school, and reverted it. It appears the article was written entirely by students and/or others from the school. Almost all of the content is completely trivial and sourced from the school website. Another article with similar issues is Edward D. Neill Elementary School. In any case, I assume these articles should be deleted but I have no idea how to handle that. The schools, in my opinion, are clearly not notable and should be quickly deleted. I would assume than most elementary schools in the world are not notable. Per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, generally elementary- and middle-school articles are either deleted or redirected to the relevant school district. The deletion would come after a deletion discussion through WP:AFD. Now, this isn't to say that all articles of this type are deleted, but this is the general trend. AfD is not necessary for clear cases of non notable schools. Unless there is a rare special reason to debate the fate of a school (or other) article, AfD is primarily a forum where deletion is generally expected to be the outcome. For non toxic articles and those that fall within WP:OUTCOMES, it is in fact a policy that redirect is preferred over deletion. Redirect is a non contentious process and if an article later meets inclusion requirements it can easily restored without discussion or admin tools. For the process, see WP:REDIRECT. Just a reminder, there are elementary and middle schools out there that meet or at least arguably meet WP:GNG, WP:ORG, or some other notability criteria. On the flip side, there are a few high schools which, despite existing for more than a year or two, have zero mentions anywhere except in directory listings, government documents, and other places where the mention doesn't count for purposes of demonstrating WP:Notability. Since WP:OUTCOMES would say "keep" it's up to those recommending deletion or "redirect" at AFD to step up and say "I did the research, I can't find anything on this school except these directory listings (1, 2, 3, etc.) and these other mentions which don't count towards notability (1, 2, 3, etc.). When redirecting instead of nominating for deletion based on WP:OUTCOMES, editors should do a sanity check to make sure the page isn't an even close to being an exceptional case. UK Academy chains spamming

I came across this Outwood Grange Family of Schools blatent piece of commercial propaganda. There are multiple issues with this article- I slapped a COPVIO on to draw it to admins attention- being short of time. It then cascades to create an article on each one of their business units. Apart from the cut and paste from a school prospectus, the promotional tone of the writing,these organisation are highly controversial and political in there actions and represent one political parties POV. It is alleged: Their status allows them to undercut teacher salaries, underfund the schools generally and slice off a large portion of the budget for vague management costs. Can I warn project members outside the UK to watch out for this spam, and to be aware it is not benign. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 19:05, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

It's also very worrying that it took since February, with edits by experienced schools article editors in the meantime, to pick this up. The article as it stood on 1 Feb might be worth keeping - I assume notability could be shown through various press routes at that stage. Good spot. Suspect Indian colleges

Having chased around trying to educate the creators of some really well, simply crappy Indian 'region' school, college and University pages, I'm surprised (IIRC) I haven't come here before.

I have also raised this with admin Alexf [4] on his talk-page, as he has very recently had dealings with one of the involved accounts, who all seem to be the same person, but who has avoided a 'sock master block' (?) by apparently not using the accounts 'abusively', IIRC only one sock Prashantpandeyking (talk · contribs) has been blocked. This is an edited version of what I said to AlexF.

Any way, I began 'poking' around' after coming across:

It took me a while to realise I have come across most of the related accounts before.
These pages are almost identical, and use exactly the same references on each page! The sources however now look (deliberately?) bogus to me.

  2. "Pradesh" - (University Grants Commission) is dead

  4. "About U.P.P.S.C' - only goes to "Official Website of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission", seems irrelevant and provides no information
  5. http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/regulations/revised_finalugcregulationfinal10.pdf - Actually works!

Searching for Ref #3 on WP [5] led me to Ramabai Government Women Post Graduate College, whose content is very similar to the 3 places listed above, and may be the 'original' that has been copied from. Explains the 2011 source retrieval dates for pages created in 2014 & 2015. This was however created by Ined2011 (talk · contribs) who has not edited since Nov. 2011. But Ined2012 (talk · contribs) did edit that page in Oct. 2012. Interesting!

• Based on the user name, Prashant Pande (talk · contribs) may be the latest incarnation. They also share an interest in Rajesultanpur and TV channels, but not colleges (so far). Others such as user Rajesultanpur are into editing Rajesultanpur, colleges and TV channels.
They do seem to be capable of creating decent pages, like RIC,Rajesultanpur first version here. Why they create what appear to be bogus pages with the same text escapes me, unless they are in fact meat-puppets, not socks?
