Rodger Young Bio

[edit]

Hi, Hjal. Just to give you a heads-up, I removed the external bio link to Rodger Young that you placed on the Starship Troopers page. Links to other wikipedia pages are preferred, and since this page already links to Rodger Young at the first mention of Rico's transport, this didn't seem appropriate. If the bio link is appropriate, I suggest that you put it on Young's page. Cheers, and happy editing! -- Pawl 18:39, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, yes, I agree that the link to Rodger Young that you added is reasonable. Second, I'm not so sure sure about linking to the USS Valley Forge is smart - someone clicking through should be expecting to go to something about this ship "Valley Forge", not its namesake. (Well, actually, according to the naming convention that Heinlein cited, iirc, ships of that class were named after locations that "mudfeet made their names shine", not previous ships.) Similarly, the link to Ypres might be confusing to someone not familiar with the story, but I'm hoping that no one thinks that a ship collided with a city while "over Klendathu" - but perhaps I need to go in & rephrase that part in the article. (Lastly, now that I think about it, I don't think that Valley Forge or Ypres were of the ship class called "corvette", but I need to go back and read the story again.) -- Pawl 00:42, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Fremont Unified School District discussions

[edit]

Hey Hjal,

Thanks for the information. I have made the necessary changes to the American High School article, and made sure the original links to American High School now go directly to that page. I also added a disambiguation page for American High School. I am currently working on a larger plan to edit and clean up the American High School article, as it has relatively few sources and it is somewhat length and rambling.

Look forward to working with you in the future.

Hey Hjal, I am actually in the middle of finals right now, and I am planning on doing a lot of work on all of the articles that I have created, standardizing all of the pages and possibly going around the area and adding photography of the schools to all of the pages. I have designed a larger plan for the American High School article. As you can see, I am making applying a new organizational scheme. The first section that I have added so far is about the Student Body, and I plan on adding and reorganizing the rest of the article into sections about the Administration, Sports and Clubs, Academics. I have not finalized the plan for this, but I will figure this all out next week when I am back home. -Sukh17 23:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hjal, Thank you for your support in keeping the article for Gomes Elementary School. Please reexamine the page for Gomes Elementary School. I believe that this article now has proper assertion of notability, as well as other useful details which have all been clearly referenced. Hopefully this will all be enough to hold onto this article. Thank You. Sukh17 20:45, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Hjal. I just noticed that you removed some information from the Fremont, California page. Although I personally did not go to Mission San Jose High School, and do not personally admire it, the information and claim of MSJHS as a prestigious high school is very true. Additionally, it is the second oldest high school in Fremont. I am sure finding the sources and specific numbers to support this claim will be very easy, so perhaps it should be included. I am welcome to any other ideas. --Thank You! Sukh17 Talk | Contribs 06:51, 8 March 2007

  • I know that it is the most prestigious. I took it out for the reasons given in my edit summary (especially the uncited vanity aspect), but also because the information is out of place in the City article when no specific details were included about the other high schools. If somebody editied the section into a bulletted list, with bits about each school (Washington oldest and on NRHP, MSJ 2nd oldest and consistantly highest ranked academically, Kennedy a technology magnet or whatgever, etc.), then I think that it would fit in fine. It would still draw vandals, but there's no escaping that. I didn't check the history to see if you had added that bit--I was following the vandal to some other articles while you were getting rid of the bulk of the vandalism.--Hjal 07:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I didn't add that part to the article. It was just a little suggestion. Anyhow, appreciate the input as always. --Thank You! Sukh17 Talk | Contribs 07:12, 8 March 2007

hiya. I began some much-needed work on the Nancy Reagan article, but there seem to be some technical difficulties. As a fellow member of the WikiProject Biography, and a fellow secret cabal member (fnord ;) ), I would like to call upon you for a bit of assistance figuring out the weirdness there. Please chime in if you have a view

[edit]

There's an interesting experience going on over at WikiProject California, and WikiProject Southern California.

Some time ago, WikiProject California members had placed their project tags on all articles about California cities. Those tags have been in place for some time. Recently certain members of WikiProject Southern California, after discussion on that project's talk page (only), decided to remove the WikiProject California tags for (almost all) Southern California cities, and replace the tags with WikiProject Southern California tags - only.

That is, the WikiProject Southern California members didn't simply add the WikiProject Southern California tag to Southern California cities, the WikiProject California tags were completely removed. This was done apparently without consultation with the WikiProject California members.

We are gathering responses to the following questions on those projects' talk pages:

  • Do you have a view whether the WikiProject California tag should be removed from a large number of cities in Southern California?
  • Do you have a view whether city article for Southern California cities should have more than one WikiProject tag?

Please let us know if you have a view! Spamreporter1 16:07, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Independent proposal for WP:CAL and WP:SOCAL tags

User Spamreporter1 has made a proposal for the tagging issue. He was not previously involved with either project before seeing this discussion, and I belive that his opinion therefore is NPOV. The suggestion is that articles that have no state-wide scope be tagged only locally. Please go to this section on the SoCal page to provide input. —ScouterSig 18:46, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're off to a useful start in the NCES model. I have created article for nearly every one of the List of school districts in New Jersey and this would have been a useful model. Unlike teh attitude for schools, there has been little effort to delete school district articles. I would strongly suggest starting with the school districts, expanding these articles with district information, and then using that as a starting point to create school articles, first for high schools and then working our way down. Once you start looking. its remarkably easy to find reliable sources for high schools. There's little reason that virtually any high school can't have a pretty thorough article created in a short time. Keep it up and let me know if I can help. It would be extremely helpful if you could compe up with a procedure to extract the NCES data to be plugged into the template.Alansohn 19:09, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

School merge template

[edit]

I've reverted the school template. As a world encylopaedia Wikipedia has to accommodate all countries, not just the US. Such a template makes no sense for other countries (ie, the rest of the world apart from the US and possibly Canada) which don't have school districts. Perhaps there should be a separate US-specific template if there is a need to mention school districts. I would have thought that the word "locality" would cover school districts anyway. Dahliarose 18:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Despite the fact that WP is intended to accomodate all countries, it is not necessary that every single word or phrase apply worldwide. In many cases, such as this one, that is not even possible. An American "school district" is not a "locality" as most speakers of American English would understand the term. It turns out, as discussed in WP's own Locality article, that for the U.S., at least, "locality" does not "mean" what most of us have been using it to mean in school-related discussions.

In geography, a locality is a place. This is the primary meaning of the term, from which other uses derive. Specifically, the term "locality" is used by the United States Board on Geographic Names to refer to the name of a place that is neither a legally incorporated or defined entity (like a township or city), nor a specific geographical feature such as a river or mountain. [citation needed]

So, I am thinking about language for the template and for the Schools Project something like this: "It has been suggested that this school-related article be merged to the appropriate article on the place where it is located (city, town, township, county, etc.) or on the school district, division, agency, parish, diocese or other organization that controls it." Virginia has "school divisions" rather than "districts," with elected boards but no power to levy taxes. Catholic schools, which make up the largest group of non-public schools in the U.S., are frequently associated with their diocese, rather than their parish, while I think that may not be true of church-related schools in England and elsewhere. This list can not be exhaustive, but it should certainly be more than "locality."
I think that specific templates for major English-speaking countries and other countries with large numbers of school articles might be a good idea, but I'm not up to making them. Since the variations have to addess both usage and local administrative differences, it would be a difficult task. In the meantime, it seems to me that the use of the word "or," as in "locality or schoold district" is sufficient to indicate that there is more than one reasonable option without creating a U.S.-centric constraint on British English speakers.
Although I disagree with some of your school-related posts, it has seemed to me that you were trying to move us toward a workable concensus. It has also seemed to me that that your comments regarding the U.S. v. The World are not as helpful.--Hjal 19:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD's and WP:N

[edit]

Hi, I thought it would be better to continue this discussion here rather than fill up the NPWatcher talk page.

I have to commend you on your use of one of Cicero's classic oratorical techniques, although it is somewhat weasley to say things along the lines of "If I didn't have to assume good faith, I'd have these nasty things to say about another editor."

As for WP:N, perhaps I am not understanding you, but I can't find any of the "steps" you are referring to. Can you help me out in that regard?

In the meantime, I must point out that no amount of cleanup will confer notability upon a nonnotable subject. Similarly, we cannot assume that somebody will come along later, find something notable about a subject and add attributed statements backing it up.

Thanks.

--Butseriouslyfolks 07:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:N#Merging
A topic can fail to satisfy the criteria because, though it may be found in published works that are not simple directories and that are from sources that are independent of the subject, it is mentioned trivially rather than being an in-depth subject of the works. Information which is given only superficial treatment or which is tangentially mentioned in discussions surrounding the actual focus of a work, is not sufficient to build a full, sourced encyclopedia article that stands independent of the main subject.
One common recommendation across all notability guidelines is not to nominate articles on such subjects for deletion but to rename, refactor, or merge them into articles with broader scopes, or into the articles that discuss the main subject, which may be created if they do not already exist.4
Note 4: Some examples:... Wikipedia:Notability (schools) recommends that individual articles on schools where there are no non-trivial published works from sources other than the school itself be merged into articles on the towns or regions where schools are located, or into articles on the school districts, education authorities, or other umbrella school organizations as appropriate.
Wikipedia:Schools is currently inactive, but that note remains as one of the few bits of actual consensus reached in the discussions there. Schools articles are also nominated for deletion when what they need is cleanup or citations, but, again, the nominators usually do not post those tags or make any efforts to improve the articles themselves.
BTW, I didn't like rhetoric and dropped it after a few weeks. I don't remember seeing you comment in other AfDs, so I don't actually have an opinion of you, just of the program you are using to outdraw the other patrollers. However, no impartial reader could spend time at AfD without noting that many (not all) of the editors voting for deletion are particularly nasty, clearly violating Civil and Bite. Of course, that same reader would also note that many of the editors voting to keep are immature and shrill, also to the point of violating Civil.--Hjal 16:33, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I see. There may have been consensus for that at the time, but I'm fairly certain there is not currently. There is a group of active inclusionist editors that have taken the position that all high schools are inherently notable and entitled to articles at WP. There is another group of deletionist editors, which I suppose I have fallen in with, that believe that WP:N requires that notability be properly demonstrated on an article-by-article basis, even when dealing with schools. (The members of the latter group have differing opinions on what sort of notability is required. Is one state sports championship sufficient? Must there be press coverage from outside of the school's area? Do notable alumni make a school notable?) While I believe most of the deletionists would be satisfied with merges, I fear this would upset many of the inclusionists.

Part of the problem is that there's no AfM process that I'm aware of. You can add merge proposal templates to these articles, but they're liable to be removed by editors who don't agree, and there's no timeframe or standardized process for decision making, so you have to follow up on every one after a reasonable amount of time. For these reasons, it is a lot less time consuming to propose deletion. Many of the AfD's are closed as "merge", so the same end is reached.

And yes, you are correct, there is a lot of incivility on both sides. I have taken steps to try to cool things down, and it seems a little better at the moment. Hopefully, somebody will do us all a favor and forge some kind of consensus on a new WP:SCHOOL guideline. It would save many people time and energy. Until then, it's a standoff.

Mill Valley entry revision

[edit]

Okay, I see what you are saying about redundant intros, but it is spurious to claim that Mill Valley "began" with John Reed. Mill Valley, as it was later named, was a byproduct of Spanish (and later, Mexican) developments throughout the Bay Area, which marginalized the previous people who lived there. That is why I added much on to the "early history" section. Why did you take the liberty to remove it? I consider it extremely exclusive and almost racist to assert that Mexico just found this land, gave some to John Reed, and Mill Valley was born. I have put the early history back up and left the intro. If you object to my account of the early history of the area, please edit it. I do not see why you removed it. o0O [GUTH3] O0o 01:01, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • When I saw that the intro had been deleted, I clicked through your two edits and reverted to the prior one--I didn't see how much material you had added in your second edit. I just now went to undo my edit and add the intro to your version, but you completed your edit before I did. I have no objection to the early history material in general. However there are a few specific problems: the deletion of the Geography section is non-standard for articles about cities and other settlements; the general outline of the article is getting farther away from the city standard; the Early history section starts with material that might be better addressed at length in the Marin County, California article, with info here limited to content that is specific to Mill Valley; the new material needs more linking and references, while links to individual years without full dates need to be dropped. However, all of that can be accomplished over time, by you or me or others--at lesat it is really enclyclopedic and will not be challenged as non-notable. If you haven't already, you might want to look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities#Article structure example for a U.S. City. When I can, I'll start a discussion about expanding some sections on the article's talk page. Sorry for the inconvenience regarding your edit.--Hjal 01:30, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry for the misunderstanding. I agree with the points you have made above, and I hope we can work on keeping the article encyclopedic. I can be rather long-winded when it comes to any type of history (even summary), as that is where my interests lie. I will take another look at it and see what I could possibly move to the Marin article. Thank you. o0O [GUTH3] O0o 18:12, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Anne Lamott. Making a statement that the slapping incident described in the Salon article that you used as a reference was child abuse is POV; it may be shared by others, but not all. Your edits to Waco siege have been reverted by another editor as extreme, as was your previous edit to Che Guevara. Please read Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, which are available by clicking on the Help link to the left.--Hjal (talk) 20:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

The above message merely proves that the powers that be on wiki are leftists and anything that does not agree with a leftist POV will be erased.

Next time you have time to spend on research, you might want to see where corporal punishment of minors falls on the left-right spectrum. In the US, I'm pretty sure that the strongest opposition to spanking is on the far left, not the far right. BTW, I have no power here beyond what they grant to any user.--Hjal (talk) 16:39, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Read this article, written by 'Slappy' Lamott herself.

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2006/05/22/lamott_fight_son/index.html

She put her hand in his face. This was not 'spanking' this was abuse. He was a child at the time. That makes it child-abuse.

If I were to slap YOU in the face you would react as if Hitler had come back to life. But when a leftist/feminist icon like 'Slappy' Lamott hurts a child, that's just A-OK with you.

You deleted the reference to 'Slappy' Lamott's child abuse because it fits your leftist agenda to do so.

I could be wrong. If you are not a leftist pig then put back the reference in the main article. Show the world that she is a child-abuser.

I wait, holding my breath. NOT! .

If you go back and look at the edit I made, you will see that when I deleted your commentary I moved the link to her Salon article up to the end of the lead paragraph and formated it as a proper reference. Check the article history yourself if you don't trust anybody else, or just click this --> [1]. I am not a political supporter of Ms. Lamott--I'm not sure what her politics are, really--I only watch her page because I used to pick up the garbage at her family's house in Bolinas. This article is the first thing I've read of hers in years. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm curious about your apparent support of the Branch Davidians. Does a single instance of a mother slapping her son bother you more than serial statutory rape?--Hjal (talk) 20:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you go back and look at the edit I made, you will see that when I deleted your commentary I moved the link to her Salon article up to the end of the lead paragraph and formated it as a proper reference.

Wooptee do-da-dee. She is still a child abuser. The words "child abuser" belong in the heart of that article. But KKKlintoon forbid that a liberal icon suffer any criticism.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm curious about your apparent support of the Branch Davidians. Does a single instance of a mother slapping her son bother you more than serial statutory rape?

What really bothers me in that case is that the KKKlintoon administration sent in tanks to murder the citizens who's taxes had paid for those tanks.

Again, it's OK because a leftist politician can commit murder and wiki will support it. You support it. You try to excuse the crimes of the KKKlintoon administration by bringing up the crimes of David Koresh.

However bad he was, did that justify murdering those children? Apparently you think it did.

Shades of Tiananmen square, another murder by tanks that was fully supported by communists like yourself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.203.234.109 (talk) 22:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hjal,

Thanks for the welcome and sorry for posting so much. I didn't know the policy. If you can see, I made a post that should be able to stay up.

I do have one question though. How come Molly West is able to stay up when she doesn't have her own article. Is there proof that she appeared in any of those magazines? I mean if you need some stuff to write about her, let me know. I have some stuff that is pretty interesting that could go in her article. I'm just saying, if she doesn't have an article but still can be on the page, why can't I? I'm not writing anything absurd. There are many other alumni who are more notable than her that aren't on the page: Chris Jefferies, played for the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls; Dennis Springer, a knuckle baller who played in the MLB and gave up Barry Bonds 73rd home run; and then Matt Garza who I added.

Just sharing my thoughts.

Anyways... again thanks for the welcome and sorry for posting my name so much. --Herny118 (talk) 01:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

First, all my additions are sourced with reliable sources. What reliable sources do you have for your statements. As I responded to the Humboldt County guru on a similar comment - if you have reliable sources to make changes, you are of course free to make them. If you don't, your edits will be viewed as vandalism - and you seem to recognize the drama occasioned that would by occasioned by that. Furthermore, nearly all the CDPs for the 2000 census are just that - not applicable to anything other than the purpose they were set up for. Many don't mention the articles I have created, so even a redirect is inappropriate even if you can find that the place is within the CDP's boundaries. And finally, there are plenty of reliable sources that Los Angeles is in Los Angeles County, California - but a redirection of that would be just as disruptive. Removing encyclopedic material from the Wiki is not helpful; I suggest your efforts are better spent expanding the articles than dumbing down the Wiki. Draft lottery (1969)

[edit]

Today I tried to rewrite this article to "clarify and smooth" but inevitably I touched the substance too. (Along the way I introduced some in-line links to SSS, for reason given at the talk page, section "clarify and smooth".

Regarding the substance, I wonder about the call for induction and call for physical exam, which SSS mentions. Apparently that draft system was used to call for physical exam through 1976; that is, through 1975 lottery numbers. Maybe this shouldn't be in wikipedia but I have started to clarify it (I hope) at the ends of section 0 and section 1. You may be knowledgeable and interested. I see your note on the talk page two years ago, "Almost all of us at 195 or lower who were 1-A got orders to report for a physical during 1970.--Hjal (talk)". (a) How did you get 1-A status without a physical exam? (b) Did you mean to say 195 or lower called for a physical, or called for induction? (c) Do you recall that anyone else was called for physical without induction, up to number 215 every year through 1976, SSS seems to say. --P64 (talk) 20:36, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I may have made an assumption that I was recassified to 1-A automatically when I lost my student deferrment, pending the the results of the physical. However, I'm not sure.--Hjal (talk) 07:51, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. So I'll leave it until someone else comes along. --P64 (talk) 21:21, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IBAs

[edit]

Hi Hjal - I have been dropping most of the IBA categories because they do not appear to actually be Important Bird Areas as defined and identified by BirdLife International, which is what the category is for. As far as I can see, of the 200 or so genuine US IBAs, hardly any are categorised as such (Salton Sea is an exception). As far as I can see people have been adding the US IBA cat to any site they consider important for birds, which is not what the cat is for. There may also be some confusion with the American Birding Association or the American Bird Conservancy designating sites as important outside the BLI process. The US organisation which is identifying IBAs for BirdLife appears to be National Audubon. If I am mistaken on any of this, please let me know. Cheers. Maias (talk) 22:02, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Women's history editathon

[edit]

Hey - Sorry for the late notice, but since you have yourself tagged as living in the Bay Area, I thought you might appreciate notification that we’re having an event Saturday! It’ll be held at Hoyt Hall, an all-women's house of the Berkeley Student Cooperative from 3 to 6 pm tomorrow. The main event page is here. Anyone is welcome to show up, but we’re expecting a significant number of people to come who have literally never edited Wikipedia before. If you’re an experienced Wikipedian who would be able to provide useful help to some of the newbies, your presence would be especially appreciated (and it might be a good idea for you to show up at 2 or 2:30 instead of three. Thanks, Kevin Gorman (talk) 02:02, 6 April 2013 (UTC) I’m AWB’ing this message to all Wikipedians who have tagged themselves in the bay area. I’m sorry if the message isn’t of interest to you; feel free to delete it. I’ll be unlikely to send future messages in a similar way, but if really don’t want to receive future messages of this sort, please let me know. [reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary School District, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NCES (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wikiproject overlap

[edit]

Thank you for this edit: [3]. i had tried to explain policy on projects to that editor, who simply refused to let me include freeways contained entirely within the Bay Area in the Bay Area task force. now that you have also reverted one of his edits based on policy, not ownership, i may include them once again. PS i have revived the Portal:San Francisco Bay Area.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 04:09, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Followup: User:Rschen7754 has again argued (User:Mercurywoodrose#Your additions of WikiProject tags) that including california highways in the SFBA task force that are entirely within the San Francisco Bay Area is not appropriate. I have tried to cite policy as i understand it, at: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Archive 19. Is there any way you can help, as i have cited your edit as support for adding them back to the sfba task force. I am willing to abide by decisions based on policy, but this has always seemed like ownership to me.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 07:52, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also of note, there is a new proposal at [4] that would address these issues in another way. --Rschen7754 08:10, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mariel Hemingway's CNN Interview Allegations about her Father

[edit]

@Hjal: The gratuitous inclusion of the unproven, defamatory sexual abuse charge allegations by Mariel Hemingway --- (who pretty clearly, and sadly struggles with a number of still unresolved, self-centered psychological, or even pathological issues concerning her now deceased parents) about something she says she thinks might have happened to one or both her sisters (although never spoken of, nor confirmed by either of them), and that she says probably wasn't even remembered by her father, who she rambles on to say was probably drunk at the time, according to her --- are not of a caliber of material that should be included in an encyclopedia-quality Wikipedia article! Please don't keep re-inserting this, as the allegation is unsubstantiated, and is quite defamatory about Jack Hemingway, who was greatly admired for his entire life by most of us who knew him. Perhaps this material, as it really says more about Mariel Hemingway and her problems, than about her father or anyone, or anything else, could be included in the article about her, here: Mariel Hemingway --- if you judge it appropriate and really think it should be in Wikipedia at all. Without question, if we were dealing with a BLP here, it would have to be excluded, but just because he is now dead, doesn't make it anymore worthy of inclusion. Thanks, and happy editing! --- Professor JR (talk) 10:44, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I would caution against even including this sensationalized, good-for-the-ratings, CNN stuff in the Wikipedia article on Mariel Hemingway --- for there we would be dealing with a BLP situation, relating to not just one, but to two living persons: both Mariel, herself, and her sister Joan. --- Professor JR (talk) 11:02, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UCSF project

[edit]

Hi! I am currently revamping the UCSF project. I created lots of pages and added a lot of content, but there is so much still to do. I saw that you are part of the SFBA task force, so I thought you might be interested and I wanted to invite you to collaborate once more. In particular, we need to add content, do maintenance, and we really would benefit from pictures, so if you are in SF and could help that would be great. Thanks!Eccekevin (talk) 15:09, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hjal! We are looking for editors to join WikiProject University of California, San Francisco, an outreach effort which aims to support development of UCSF related articles in Wikipedia. If you are interested in joining, please visit the project page, and add your name to the list of participants, check out our To Do list, and join the discussion on our talk page. Thanks!!!

June 2019

[edit]

Information iconHello, Hjal, I saw that you made a draft for a new article at User:Hjal/Fort_Bragg_Unified_School_District. Short term hosting of potentially valid articles and other reasonable content under development or in active use is usually acceptable. But in this case, you haven't edited your draft for a long time. If you wish to improve the draft yourself, please do. Otherwise, you may consider donating it to WikiProject Abandoned Drafts (a participant can help). I think there's info there that could be merged into Fort Bragg Unified School District. GretLomborg (talk) 20:54, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was working on the FBUSD draft with the intent of replacing most of the existing article and then proposing to the various Schools groups that it be used as a template for mass creation of school district articles. I got discouraged by deletionists and others and cut way back on editing. I hope to come back and go ahead with this plan, but feel free to take the actions you suggested.--Hjal (talk) 13:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Thank you! I used to pick up the garbage at his small house on the Bolinas Mesa, but I can't add anything about that (not that I remember anything else, anyway).--Hjal (talk) 16:00, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Qwrk’s user page says that he is retired. Makes it hard to reason with somebody. In any case, it if very difficult to AGF when advertising is listed as a rationale for this entry. Over the last five or mor years, it does appear that the link I added to Ms. Larson’s site has become a bibliography of her professional publications, which may have an advertising intent, but which would now be an easy way to show reliable info about the subject without depending on users to create a maintain a separate list. It is also clear that Ms. Larson met the notability requirements at the time, and therefore she still does; I’m not sure what she’s doing now, but it doesn’t matter. I haven’t tried to deal with such a deletion request in a long time (probably never on a phone) and I hope that a proper signature is entered automatically. Hello! Wishing you a Happy Earth day on the behalf of WikiProject Environment and WikiProject Ecology.
