SPA ,,Dąbie"

Hello

I'm writing because of your message. Firstly, I reckon, that the name of page shouldn't be changed. Plase look at the right corner of the website - SPA Dąbie. Official name of company contains quotation mark. Secondly, could you please tell me, what's wrong with my article Szczecińskie Przedsiębiorstwo Autobusowe „Dąbie”? Is anything wrong with grammars or vocabulary? If you tell me, what kind of mistakes have been done, I will improve my article.

P.S. Sorry for the mistakes I have done. I'm not a native speaker of English language. I have been learning that language. Szczecinolog (talk) 17:49, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I seen you are right about the quotation marks, but I don't see why it should be („Dąbie”) as opposed to ("Dąbie"). As for the copy edit tag, there are just a few minor grammatical errors which a copyeditor will eventually attend to. For example, "Those buses had been bought from 2005 to 2008." should be "These buses were bought between 2005 and 2008." or alternatively "This series of buses was bought between 2005 and 2008." If you have any more questions feel free to ask. You also might want to check out the Polish ambassadors to help you. Happy Editing! Winner 42 Talk to me! 22:46, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your message! I've shopped at the one American Apparel store they have in my country. Does that count? In any case, I have tried to offer relevant citations for my edits and tried to maintain a NPOV etc. I welcome any and all suggestions you have that will help me contribute Wikipedia-worthy edits! Wog

I removed the guff from the article Wog because it's simply not true. There are zero serious etymologists who believe the "Wily Oriental Gentleman" story is true, and in fact this is probably the canonical example of False Eytmology, as are ALL etymologies based on acronyms (see also "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge").

The person who added that info is being coy, but the fact is, his source is not remotely authoritative. The section I re-inserted (from a previous edit; I didn't write it) included an unimpeachable source. 50.132.67.150 (talk) 02:01, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

I wholly agree with 50.132.67.150. I've reverted to an earlier wording. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:15, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

2011 KW48

The reference doesn't talk about 2011 KW48 (nor VNH0004). And we are in June !--Io Herodotus (talk) 21:33, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

@Io Herodotus:I'm not sure what reference you are referring to. The reference you tagged says

According to the New Horizons’ twitter feed, @NewHorizons2015, and Principal Investigator Alan Stern, the New Horizons probe will make a long-range encounter with a Kuiper Belt Object in January 2015. The object is temporarily designated VNH0004 by the mission team. It does not yet have an International Astronomical Union designation.

and

The encounter will take place at a range of about 75 million km, a distance somewhat subject to change depending on how the probe makes its course correction.

These statements appear to support the statements made in the article. Can you please clarify? Winner 42 Talk to me! 21:42, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the correction!

I very much appreciate your stopping by my talkpage to let me know that I shouldn't be restoring blanked warnings from talkpages. Chalk it up to inexperience on my part (which isn't an excuse, I know). While I didn't violate 3RR on the IP's page, I think I did earlier today on another talkpage - they're blocked now as a vandalism-only account, but I don't think that excuses me. Do you think I ought to turn myself in for warring? I did break the rules, after all, and if I need to eat a short block that's only fair. NekoKatsun (talk) 22:02, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

What you did is so minor I wouldn't worry about it. There is no need for a block because they aren't supposed to be punitive and now that you understand the policy you know what to do. This is a relatively minor guideline that no one knows about to start off with, everyone has to learn from somewhere. Winner 42 Talk to me! 00:39, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank You!

Winner 42, I really appreciate your help. I have saved the URL's on a document for the help sites you recommended. Did you have to correct each entry? Jet 21:42, 25 June 2015 (UTC)jet

What I did was I went through and changed the "assessdate" parameter in your references to the "date" parameter. For future reference "assessdate" is for the date you looked up a source and "date" is for when it was published. Winner 42 Talk to me! 00:41, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Republic Metals Corporation page

Hello Winner42, You recently nominated my page on Republic Metals Corporation for speedy deletion on grounds of notability. I have edited the content of the page to include more information about the company's notability but seem to be unable to add it to the page as it is locked only for use of an administrator. Is there anything you can do to help me make the changes, or if you would like, i would be happy to share the changes with you to see if they meet your standards of notability? I look forward ot hearing your thoughts. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hilastrul (talkcontribs) 16:41, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Hilastrul: User:Winner42 isn't an admin, so there's not anything they can do about it (I'm not either before you ask). They are only notable enough for a Wikipedia article is there is significant, independent coverage about them in reliable sources, per WP:GNG and WP:CORP. If you think they meet this, consider writing a draft article using WP:Article Wizard, and submit the draft for review. If/when a reviewer thinks the draft is good enough, they can get an admin to unprotect the page. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:20, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your review of Lo Mein I've dug up a few more references, added a note to the draft, and resubmitted. I'm primarily working on Eringer's non-fiction, which are significant historical works within the spy genre, it just happened that I finished Lo Mein first. 2015 GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2015 GA Cup - June 2015

Welcome to the GA Cup! In less than 72 hours, the competition will begin! Before you all start reviewing nominations and reassessments we want to make sure you understand the following:

  • This is a friendly competition so we don't want any cheating/breaking of the rules. However, if you do believe someone is going against the rules, notify the judges. All the rules are listed here.
  • If you are a new editor or new to reviewing Good article nominations, it is imperative that you read the 4 essays/guides listed under FAQ #4. If you do not understand something, ask a judge for clarification ASAP!
  • The competition is not entirely about who can review the most nominations. Per the "Scoring" page, there is different criteria in which you can earn more points. Theoretically, you could review 10 nominations and have 80 points but another user could have reviewed 5 nominations and have 100 points. Yes, we want you to review as many nominations as you can as this will greatly increase the number of points you earn, but you must also keep in mind that every single review will be looked over by a judge. If we find that you are "rubber-stamping" (in other words, the review is not complete but you still passed/failed the article) you may be disqualified without warning. The same applies with reassessments. If you just say that the article should be delisted or kept with no explanation, points will not be awarded.
  • Remember, to submit Good article reviews and reassessments on your submissions page (Some of you have not created your submissions page yet. Only reviews/reassessments submitted on your submissions page can earn points. If you participated in the 2014-2015 GA Cup, you still need to re-create your submissions page.). Detailed instructions on how to submit reviews and reassessments can be found under the "Submissions" page. Ask a judge if you need clarification.

Also, rather than creating a long list on what to remember, make sure you have read the "Scoring", "Submissions", and "FAQ" pages.

Now some of you are probably wondering how on earth the rounds will work.

The rounds will work in a similar fashion as the previous competition, with the exception of the first round. Round 1 will have everyone compete in one big pool. Depending on the final number of participants after sign-ups close, a to-be-determined number of participants will move on (highest scorers will move on) to Round 2. We guarantee that the top 15 will move on (this number may change), so make sure you aim for those top positions! Moving on to Round 2, participants will be split into pools. The pools will be determined by a computer program that places participants by random. More details regarding Round 2 will be sent out at the end of Round 1.

It is important to note that the GA Cup will run on UTC time, so make sure you know what time that is for where you live! On that note, the GA Cup will start on July 1 at 0:00:01 UTC; Round 1 will end on July 29 at 23:59:59 UTC; Round 2 will commence on August 1 at 0:00:01 UTC. All reviews must be started after or on the start time of the round. If you qualify for Round 2 but do not complete a review before the end of Round 1, the review can be carried over to Round 2; however that review will not count for Round 1. Prior to the start of the the second round, participants who qualify to move on will be notified.

Finally, if you know anyone else that might be interesting in participating, let them know! Sign-ups close on July 15 so there is still plenty of time to join in on the action!

If you have any further questions, contact one of the judges or leave a message here.

After sign-ups close, check the Pools page as we will post the exact number of participants that will move on to the next round. Because this number will be determined past the halfway mark of Round 1, we encourage you to aim to be in the top 15 as the top 15 at the end of the round are guaranteed to move on.

Cheers from 3family6, Dom497, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Roberta Grossman

Thank you for reviewing my recent submission on Producer Roberta Grossman.

I work for Ms. Grossman and was hired by her to write and submit an entry to Wikipedia.

This is my first time submitting, so it is a little daunting to read all the rules.

Is the major problem that I did not include citations within the article? Because I provided all relevant and correct footnotes at the bottom of the page to verify the factual correctness of her biography.

If I cite, for example, her employer's website, Katahadin Productions, as a source, does that meet the Wikipedia standards?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sydney GA review

I was just reading your comments at Talk:Sydney/GA1 and two things jumped out at me as really needing comment:

  • "Any more recent population figures/estimates than 2011?" - In Australia, a census is only carried out every 5 years and accurate statistics are generated only then. The last was in 2011. Any population figures later than that are estimates and nothing more. The article contains a 2014 estimate so I don't see what else is necessary.
  • Regarding "See also" "This section could use serious expansion with the introduction of many more related links" - WP:SEEALSO says the "see also" section is also not mandatory, as many high-quality and comprehensive articles do not have a "See also" section", so saying that the section should be expanded is at odds with producing a good article. A high quality article should contain no "see also" or "external links" section. Any links in these sections should, ideally, be incorporated into the body of the article. --AussieLegend () 02:49, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
@AussieLegend: Fair enough, my main issue was that the population figure usage was inconsistent between the census figure and the official estimate, but obviously a very minor issue. I'll admit, I haven't read MOS:SEEALSO until you pointed it out to me. I suppose it felt odd to have a See Also section of such a large topic with only one page there. And of course I wouldn't fail or hold back the review because of it. Thanks for the feedback. Winner 42 Talk to me! 03:55, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Most of what you wrote was quite reasonable and I agree with the fail. I was surprised when the article was nominated. It went through a major expansion in the second half of 2014[19] by a new editor who had some issues[20] and I'm still dubious about some of the edits that he made. I just haven't had time to review them all. --AussieLegend () 05:09, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

How close is the article to satisfying the GA standards? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:22, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
@Dirtlawyer1: Relatively close compared to other GAs I've reviewed. In part due to a questionable speedy GA review a few years back. Main issues are a bunch of dead links, a few prose tweaks, and bringing the article up to date. Good luck. Winner 42 Talk to me! 19:23, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
W42, I'll try to start chewing on the dead links in the next 24 hours. Hopefully, there are archived versions available for most of them through the Wayback Machine. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:11, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

What exactly did i do wrong?

You've just threatened to block me on here for adding external links for a players profile. Why? What is even wrong with that. It isn't spamming at all. Thursby16 (talk) 19:28, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

@Thursby16:I'm very sorry. Not what I meant to do at all. I was looking at the wrong edit in WP:Huggle, there was an actual spammer I was trying to revert. Again, I'm very sorry, honestly I feel really bad right now. Winner 42 Talk to me! 19:34, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Abdelhameed Goudat

Somehow I got the wrong URL copied-I meant to copy the ref that was on there that the profile actually has stuff from as you can see on the ref on the article. Wgolf (talk) 00:51, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Looks like they deleted most of it and is now just a db-person (or db-no content depending on how you look at it) Wgolf (talk) 00:53, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

HI, I erased it from the page as the info is incorrect, and was originally created by someone who admitted to changing in maliciously on TWITTER, I can send you the proof if you wish. There are many other articles out now that prove that the statements made are untrue and so I removed it, as wikipedia isn't a one sided web platform, and shouldn't be reporting false info, based on incorrect reporting. Thanks and best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lemonsandlemons (talkcontribs) 15:41, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Yoruks

hello I removed a map from Yoruks page, because it is not showing where Yoruks live in Turkey. It looks like somebody has just crated it from his imaginations. I am a Yoruk and I know where they live in Turkey. I wanted to write this down for the reason I removed it, but I didn't know where I should leave the message.

Can you please remove that map from that page? Its giving wrong info about Yoruks. Or can you please state a source for it?

Thanks, Fish :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fish2015 (talkcontribs) 16:49, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

@Fish2015: Sorry I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to, but if the information is incorrect it should be removed. You can explain it is inaccurate using the Edit summary, this shows other editors that you have a reason for removing it. Winner 42 Talk to me! 18:50, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

NOOB

Hi winner 42, Sorry for the arbitration request, I'm new to wikipedia's practices when it comes to a dispute with another user. I just didn't know how to resolve an issue with another user, since I understand the change war issue, and I thought that arbitration was a mediated conversation with an admin and users disputing a topic. Thanks for understanding. Also, what would you recommend in this situation? Honestly not even sure if you are an admin... haha. Belnap.research (talk) 18:19, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Winner 42,

I wanted to contact you for reverting back a quote about a back massager on the Vestavia Hills High School page. Under the Mascot section, the quote references John Oliver, the satirical news anchor, referencing a back massager being used as a sexual stimulator. I do not feel that this is necessary or contributes anything to the page of educational institution for children. Though a footnote is put on the quote, that does not necessarily make it a worthy contribution. I look forward to seeing it removed, and would happily discuss further.

Btw I added a speedy deletion tag to Vestavia Hills Dogwood Festival, though perhaps it could be merged with Vestavia Hills, Alabama. But there are no references at all. The 'Vestavia Belles' may be significant though--another symbol of nostalgia for the Antebellum South in the same town...Zigzig20s (talk) 21:17, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Zoë Buckman

Hey Winner 42. Since you reviewed this at AFC, Zoë Buckman was moved to the mainspace by the article creator from Draft:Zoë Buckman/User:Allicamp/Zoë Buckman without being approved. I'm not familiar with the AFC process, so I'll leave it to you to take any necessary actions. — JJMC89(T·E·C) 03:19, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

@JJMC89: I'm not entirely sure what is going on with the IP editor and these two accounts, it seems suspicious and unusual but nothing appears to be actionable. Otherwise, the article in mainspace seems to meet notability standards, even if it leans promotional. Generally moving your own draft to namespace is frowned upon, especially if there is a COI, but it is permitted if the draft is good enough not to be deleted. Winner 42 Talk to me! 03:52, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Is a histmerge in order since the article was moved by copy & paste, or is it ok to move it that way? — JJMC89(T·E·C) 04:05, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
@JJMC89: A histmerge will be needed, I would G6 it, but patrollers have significantly improved it, I'll tag it, hopefully some admin can come along and fix it. Winner 42 Talk to me! 04:12, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Winner, thanks for the ping. My RfA didn't so much fail for lack of experience, (I'd been quite active for a few years) rather that there were problems with my article deletion noms, which I understood and have undertaken to remedy. I'm contemplating another run, but we'll see. It's tough to see people you've never interacted with tell you how deficient you are. :) But my real reason for commenting here was to thank you for thinking of me. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:13, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: I didn't mean to suggest that you were a WP:NOTNOW candidate, but rather your opposes mostly said you didn't have enough experience yet. A number of them focused on lack of content creation and lack of policy understanding, both these issues are fixed with the more time and experience which you have now. In fact GiantSnowman said, "come back in 12 months once you've got a better idea of how we operate". It has been 16 months now, drop me a line if you are interested in an RfA nomination. Winner 42 Talk to me! 22:23, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
Sure. I'll take the plunge. Nominate away. :) Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:34, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Time to throw another poor soul on the fire, let's do this! I'm writing up my nomination now. Winner 42 Talk to me! 00:39, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
That was a very fine, effusive, recommendation, thank you! You have a gift for politics, in case nobody ever cut you a check for that before. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:58, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Thank you very much, good luck! Winner 42 Talk to me! 05:39, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Percy Jackson task-force

Hi, I'm looking to help re-activate the Percy Jackson Task-force. As you are one of the few members still actively editing Wikipedia, I wanted to extend an invitation for you to work with me to do this. If you are no longer interested, I'd appreciate your taking the time to remove your username from the "Active" list here. And thanks for all you did before!

If you are interested, I would also ask you to consider a proposal I have, which is that this task-force become the "Rick Riordan" task-force. I've suggested this because I think it would help keep the project active and also help stop some pretty widespread vandalism in articles referring to that author. My proposal in brief. I'm a relatively new Wikipedian, so I'd appreciate the advice and expertise of a more experienced user. Thanks again in advance, and feel free to contact me on my Talk page. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 03:57, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your prompt action! Best of luck in all your future endeavors. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 04:26, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Don't lie

Having a two word essay that merely restates the title's message is not helpful to the reader. The essay has a long history in Western culture. Even though there are many ways to write an essay, two words doesn't do it. The essay should present various arguments why Wikipedians should not lie.OnBeyondZebraxTALK 22:24, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

The point of the essay is that the reader will already know that they should not lie and the reasons for not doing so. It is taught on a basic moral level to young children from a very young age. They don't need various reasons not to do it, anyone who is lying is not going to be convinced by whatever that essay could possibly say. Therefore the essay conveys its point in the simplest, clearest way possible. Winner 42 Talk to me! 22:34, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Your Message - Edit War

Thanks for your message. I object to my material (which does something to redress the outright bias and lack of objectivity on this page) being deleted by someone purely because they consider that the source referred to represents 'craziness'. This is personal opinion and not a valid reason for deletion. I am also concerned at the speed in which my posts are being taken down - something is not right here, there appears to be some kind of organised attempt to prevent the publication of a different point of view. This is outright censorship. Wikipedia readers have a right to know about all researchers and their work. My entry merely mentioned and provided a link to the work of the person in question, it did not concern itself with discussion or debate about exactly what his views and conclusions may be, leaving people free to make up their own minds about that.

Also, later attempts by other readers to reinstate my material have been similarly deleted on the grounds that it represents a 'fringe view'. Are you being ironic? This is a page specifically on conspiracy theories for heaven's sake! What other kind of views do you expect?

James Cameron School page - help

Hello Winner 42,

Recently I tried to start a page for the James Cameron School, a non-profit school for young children with dyslexia. Someone from the school had tried at an earlier date, but was not successful - it was declined, and I was asked to start the page. I received your message that my submission wasn't constructive.

I have no experience with Wikipedia, so I'm not sure how to make this happen. Are you able to put me on the right path?

I would appreciate any help you can provide.
