Just so you know, most youth players that haven't played a match for a senior team aren't notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Per WP:GNG, you need to show evidence of significant, independent coverage from reliable sources, otherwise they will be deleted. If they've made senior team appearances, they will pass WP:NFOOTY. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:42, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kelechi Iheanacho is apparently getting called up to MCFC's first team so surely this page should be kept? Plus he also played a few pre-season friendly matches last year.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thursby16 (talkcontribs)

Maybe getting called up isn't enough to show notability, lots of youth players could fall under this category. I'm trying to see how many reliable sources there are about them, but don't be surprised if someone puts them up for deletion. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:48, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :)

Also, he didn't win the Premier League, because to get a medal you need to make a certain number (8?) appearances, same for the League Cup. There's been discussions about it before at WT:FOOTY, which is the Wikiproject about football, and consensus was that people that didn't play aren't considered winners. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:34, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. Did you see the source i linked with that? They said he won those trophies. Sorry :')

Yes some sources say he won it- they're wrong. Starting a discussion about it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Honours (again) about it, but I'm sure they'll agree with me (since this argument has been done before). Joseph2302 (talk) 22:39, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah okok... So they'd only get that honor if they have played a certain number of games in that competition..

Yes, that's definitely true for the Premier League, and I'm pretty sure it's also true for the League Cup.
Also, sorry if it seems like I'm trying to be a pain, I'm actually trying to help. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:42, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be sorry haha :') you're helping me

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kelechi Iheanacho, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:11, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The FIFA ref only includes appearances in FIFA tournaments i.e. World Cups. Things such as the African championships are not included. According to [1] he had 29 goals for the u-17s prior to the World Cup, plus 6 in the tournament makes 35 (he stopped being eligible for u-17 matches after the tournament).

On a wider note, welcome. As you've found out, youth players aren't generally eligible for articles until after their first team debut. Sometimes if there's been a lot of coverage it can be more of a grey area, as is evident in the split opinions in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelechi Iheanacho, but those cases tend to be in the minority. Though it might seem strict for players at big clubs, even players in things like the FA Youth Cup final often don't make it as a pro. The goalkeepers from the last two times Manchester City made the final (in 2006 and 2008) are two examples. While I hope Albinson bucks the trend, its far from a sure thing. It is perhaps more understandable if you consider there's more than a quarter of a million football articles on Wikipedia, which is a lot to keep in shape! For questions about football related editing, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football is a useful place frequented by a large number of helpful editors. Oldelpaso (talk) 17:49, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Articles and Edits

[edit]

Hello, I appreciate the effort you are putting in to updating articles and even creating new ones, however a lot of your edits are getting reverted and articles being nominated for deletion. I thought I may try and help by pointing you to a few resources and explaining why this is happening.

  • Firstly as you seem to be mostly interested in football WP:FOOTY is a good place to start, take a look there, it's where a lot of the rules around what does and doesn't warrant inclusion in wikipedia regarding football gain consensus. Join and visit the talk page often, it will help you understand what is going on and put your point of view across where you disagree.
  • Secondly, for most edits you will need to add a reliable source. The problem you are having is the sources you are using and/or the information in them when you add them at all. For transfers its generally only accepted that it has happened if a primary source makes an announcement (that basically means one of the two clubs involved in the deal). Agents and newspapers are not generally considered reliable in that context.
  • Thirdly, speculation, you have added several things that talk about what may happen in the future, even what is likely to happen in the future. As an encyclopedia, only things that have happened in the past are recorded (with a source). See WP:CRYSTAL so things like Jason Deneyar joining the first team of MCFC. It hasn't happened yet, when it does then you can make the edit and explain where that has been announced. This isn't a newspaper, it's not designed to be up to date with all the current news, its designed to be factually accurate about things that have happened.

Hopefully this helps and you stay on as a productive editor. Other users may take you down the route of a temporary block if you keep editing in the way you are currently and that would be a shame, since new editors are a good thing, especially when they have passion for a subject. Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Richard Wright (footballer). This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. Information icon Hello. I noticed that you attempted to file a deletion discussion (on the article Goldbach (Tollense)) but did not complete the process. Kelechi Iheanacho

[edit]

Err no, I "literally" haven't nominated the article for deletion; I merged two articles on the same topic (Kelechi Iheanacho (footballer, born 1996) and Kelechi Iheanacho) given that numerous editors thought it an idea to create at separate pages, and then my internet went down (which is why I've been offline for 20+ minutes!) and I was unable to restore the proper version. [edit]

Hi.

When you update statistics please remember that you should also update the timestamps as of when the stats are correct. This is done by manually updating the date above or below the statistics table. By doing this we show when the stats were last updated and it prevents other editors from accidentally updating the stats again.

Please keep this in mind. Thank you. Qed237 (talk) 00:38, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Thursby16 Test Page Instantly Delete for deletion, because it seems to be a test. Did you know that the Wikipedia Sandbox is available for testing out edits?

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Admin help on blacklisting

Question for administrator

[edit]

<Could you please either tell me how to block someone from editing or block this person yourself. . as they keep making foreign pages and even after they get deleted, he/she makes more.>

--Thursby16 (talk) 22:17, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thursby. Only admins can block other users, so it's not something you can do yourself (at least not yet). Also, I think you're mistaken: MEDADCENTER-KSA (talk · contribs) has only ever made one edit, to the now-deleted المركز الدولي للأبحاث والدراسات (مداد); so saying that they keep making foreign pages isn't true. I happen to be an admin, but as the user has only made one edit ever, I don't think it's worthwhile to block them yet.
Incidentally, I'd like to second Athomeinkobe's advice in the section below: you're going a little too hard on these tags. Most articles require only one or two speedy deletion tags, not ten, and many of the tags you put on both that article and this one don't apply. Speedy deletion is supposed to be very strictly-defined--if an article doesn't exactly fit the criteria, you shouldn't put the tag on it. And as Athomeinkobe says, an article being in a foreign language does *not* make it eligible for speedy deletion. Thanks for your efforts to clean up the encyclopedia, but please slow down a bit on the speedy deletion tagging. Writ Keeper  06:30, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd like you to double check the tagging of the above article, which I have reverted. You tagged it with about 10 categories, some which contradicted each other (for example, it can't be both "no context" and an "attack page"). I was wondering whether perhaps you pressed the wrong button or something. In any event, being in a foreign language is in itself not a reason for deletion. The Google translation suggests there is nothing in there that is malicious and requires blanking. So I've reverted it. Hopefully someone fluent in that language at WP:PNT will translate it. Otherwise it will be deleted after about 3 weeks. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 22:45, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please check your tagging. You marked John Money (builder) for deletion today under g1, a3, and a7. The article looked like this when you tagged it: [2]. While an A7 tag might not be inappropriate for that, the article is very clearly neither patent nonsense (G1) nor devoid of content (A3). The G1 tag is for *actual* gibberish, e.g. strings of random letters or words like "wjejrhfhhtnr" or "frog blast the vent core"--anything written in English sentences does not qualify. And no content means *literally* no content; there was plenty of content in that page when you tagged it. Again, please be more careful in the tags you apply to articles, especially deletion tags. Writ Keeper  18:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Athomeinkobe: So in future should I just keep deletion to one tag?Thursby16 (talk) 18:56, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You should keep it to the relevant tags. Sometimes two will apply, for example non-notable (A7) and promotional (G11). Or non-notable and a copyright infringement (text copied from a company's webpage). But it is impossible for 6 or 7 to apply to one article. I must ask, have you ever read WP:CSD to understand what all of those categories mean? Another article you tagged the other day was the Arabic page المركز الدولي للأبحاث والدراسات (مداد) that Writ Keeper mentions above. The translated title of the article is "International Center for Research and Studies". I remember looking at the google translation of the article last week, and it was about a university in Iran or Saudi Arabia. I can't remember the details but it looked like a legitimate subject. You tagged that article as G3 (pure vandalism or blatant hoax), A1 (no context), A7 (no notability), G1 (patent nonsense), G10 (attack page), A3 (no content) and A2 (foreign language article already existing on a different Wikipedia).
  • To tag with G3 means you must have read the translation and decided it was a hoax about a centre that doesn't exist.
  • A1 means the article had only a few words, so you couldn't tell what the topic was.
  • A7 means the article was describing a non-notable centre.
  • G1 means the Arabic writing was gibberish that a normal Arabic speaker cannot understand (just random Arabic letters).
  • G10 means it must have been designed to attack the centre or somebody who works there.
  • A3 means the article was basically empty.
  • A2 means you must have checked the Arabic Wikipedia and found that the article exists there. (I checked the Arabic Wikipedia and can confirm the article doesn't exist there).
I'm sure you will agree that it is impossible that all of these categories were applicable to just one article. So I was really surprised to see that an admin actually deleted the page as you requested. But that's a different problem.
In summary, you should only tag with relevant tags. To do that, you must read the article, double-check the definitions of the criteria at WP:CSD, decide if any are applicable, and tag appropriately. Please do not rush. If you find a non-English article, you have to check its translation using google translate or some other service. Good luck, and please message me again if you need any more help. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:44, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Christian Distefano has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Some facts:

  • The creator is new and has 20 edits.
  • Palomino rabbit gets many hits at any search engine.
  • You speedy tagged it two minutes after creation.

Some questions:

  • Did you read WP:BITE?
  • Did you google "Palomino rabbit" before speedy tagging?

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Thursby16,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Thursby16. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Improper page moves

[edit]

Please do not move pages to add extra disambiguation. This is the part of the page title in the parenthesis. For example, D. Va and Lumo (video game). We only use disambiguation where its necessary. Other Overwatch characters have (Overwatch) because there is already an existing page with the same name, i.e. Mercy and Mercy (Overwatch). Because there are no other topics named D. Va, or similar to it, we do not require disambiguation.

We also only disambiguate as much as necessary. Lumo (video game) has (video game) to disambiguate it from Lumo. However, there is only one Lumo video game, so adding (2016 video game) is not necessary. This would only be done if there were multiple Lumo video games.

Thanks -- ferret (talk) 00:46, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: Oh okay. I just thought that, in the Overwatch character page, it just seemed more consistent within each page. Thursby16 (talk) 12:38, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Our preference would be to not have (Overwatch) at all, but we have to include it in some cases since topics of the same name already exist. -- ferret (talk) 12:59, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: Could a page possibly be made for each of the heroes? Thursby16 (talk) 13:12, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on whether or not they would pass the notability guidelines. Not all of the characters receive equal coverage by reliable secondary sources, so some will have articles while others have to be summarized at Characters of Overwatch. -- ferret (talk) 14:21, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jordan Downing (footballer, born 1998) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTY having never played in a fully professional league or in a senior international fixture.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
