Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 17:13, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

re: PDEngNN

that was not an attack on a person, and was the documentation of a controversial issue. If you do not agree with the POV either discuss it or edit the page, taking it down because you do not agree with the stance, with no discussion, is not the spirit of wikipedia, or democracy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lordofall123 (talkcontribs) 03:34, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help on saving the Aoife Hoey article (formerly Aoife Hoey (bobsleigh)) from deletion. I really appreciate it. Chris (talk) 15:47, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

You asked for sources, sources were provided, and you removed the sources. Please explain why. Corvus cornixtalk 03:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

I provided an explanation at talk:Aoife Hoey before doing so. Essentially, the references don't actually verify any of the information they are supposed to. -- Whpq (talk) 03:23, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

How should I go about removing the "considered for deletion" box? I apologize for the slow progress on the page, but I hope with the recent updates it is in accordance with the rules. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Msu123 (talk) 21:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

The article has been nominated for deletion. You cannot remove the AFD notice in the article. Editors will express their opinions on whether the article can kept and an administrator will determine the concensus and then take the appropriate action after 5 days. See WP:AFD for more details. -- Whpq (talk) 12:32, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Respond to Whpq

The 'minor edit' edit summary was pre-populated, and I should have changed it to something more descriptive. You are right. I've also added the AFD result to that Talk page. Thanks! Gary King (talk) 21:14, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I've already given her all the proper notices about COI. This is the ultimate single-purpose account, and I really wish I knew what to do about it. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:38, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Simply monitor the article content for POV violations, and keep pushing for reliable sources to satsify verifiability. There is no restriction on an editor with a conflict of interest adding material to an article so long as it remains neutral and is verfiably factual.-- Whpq (talk) 18:41, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
  • As you can read on the discussion page, I WANT the article to be deleted. Don't let me down when it comes to your opinion. RingPOPmom (talk) 01:29, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Great! Only you have written to delete the article. With only one reply, they will probably keep the article. UGGHH! I'm never going to get the article off. Last time there were more people who voted... Where are they now!  :-( RingPOPmom (talk) 09:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
An administrator will decide if further discussion is required and extend it accordingly. Note, if you want it deleted, then you should participate in the discussion and enter your delete opinion. -- Whpq (talk) 12:55, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Removed prod on HTS Kimberley

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from HTS Kimberley, which you proposed for deletion, because I think that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Atamachat 21:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. When I see these as I look over articles needing wikification, alarm bells go off. Often, going to the subject's official site or Myspace page will find the original text. -- Whpq (talk) 17:22, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello - I've never created a wikipedia page before, so this is my first time and I appreciate the help. What can I do most immediately to get my rating up from "stub" to "start"? Sociologik (talk) 19:16, 27 February 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sociologik (talkcontribs) 19:14, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

The article is within the scope of Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography. You can read up on biogrpahy article assessments and make an assessment request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment. At least I think that's how it works. I'm not part of Wikiproject Biography so I may have an incomplete understanding of how it works. Hope that helps. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 19:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I agree with your cutting of this article however I still think it's unverified - except for what is basically a self-reference. What do you think? -- Kleinzach (talk) 09:50, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree. There aren't references provided. I'll tqag it. -- Whpq (talk) 12:32, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Image:Ivanios.gif

You could go imagevio tag, but in cases like this I would typically do a WP:PUI listing. This gives 2 weeks for the user to understand, and if needed, contact and request a license and get it processed via OTRS. WP:COPYREQ may help the uploader understand as well. While I've come across many images like this, the user editing articles with the same name as the location on the source website make me believe they may be related to the website and have used it in both places, which is quite common. I upload many of my own works here, but also put them on Flickr and other places as well. Either way, I didn't think speedy was the right choice in this case; however another admin might have disagreed. MECUtalk 17:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Graeme Kirkland

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Graeme Kirkland, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Re:Image talk:Mumbai Police Logo.jpg

Recently you have raised a concern regarding Image:Mumbai Police Logo.jpg. I have opened a discussion thread on the Image talk:Mumbai Police Logo.jpg. You are invited to put forth your points on this talk page. --gppande «talk» 08:54, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Reply: I haven't expressed any concern over the use of the logo. You may be confused due to the number of copyright issues expressed on User talk:Suyogaerospace. My notice was due to the copy and paste of material from the police web site into the Mumbai Police article.-- Whpq (talk) 11:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification: It may be true that article contains text which should not be copy-paste from any other website. I would look into this article to get it cleaned. Also I would explain Suyog (who has been working on this page for sometime now) that WP prohibits copy-paste. Thanks. --gppande «talk» 07:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for helping clean up the vandalism on Cedarburg Highschool. It's really frustrating that my classmates are such idiots, but I can't figure out who specifically has been doing it, and I haven't been able to do everything on my own. JDub90 (talk) 16:05, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. About the only thing that can really be done is to monitor it, and revert and warn when it occurs. If it happens enough, then report to WP:AIV would be in order. If it becomes bad enough, an admin can make a decision for extended blocking. Cheers. -- Whpq (talk) 17:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Awesome, but I'm also going to create Sundowner (wind) from what was there before, that seemed to be the only part of the page that really needed its own article. Corvus cornixtalk 17:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

The wind article would be a great addition. The ones currently listed were existing articles, and the actual contents of the targets both include information that identifies the truck and the plane going by the name of sundowner. -- Whpq (talk) 17:54, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Lorenzo Quinn

I don't know how to reply to messages personally. Just to say thanks for the correction. I am new to this site and am still trying to find out how things work, so apologies for the many mess ups.

Lorenzo is a friend of mine and has asked me to work on this page for him. Could you help me add the other references please?

Thanks LorenzoFanatic (talk) 11:12, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Certainly I can help. Yopu can observe my edits to see how things are done and feel free to ask me questions. One thinig I should point out is that as a friend of the artist, you do need to be aware of conflict of interest, and make sure that your edits adhere to a neutral point of view. Regards -- Whpq (talk) 11:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I just lost the bottom of my article. I was trying to do the references. Oh heck!!

I'll bear in mind about the conflict of interest. I think I'm gonna leave it now. This is scary.

Thanks --LorenzoFanatic (talk) 11:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

There's nothing scary about it. I encourage you to continue. If you are unsure about your edits, use the preview button to ensure it did what you expected. Also, you can use a sandbox to try out test edits before you do them for real. And of course, you can ask me a question if you are unsire of how to do something. -- Whpq (talk) 12:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Capture of HMS Guerriere

I remember this being one of the articles I worked on when I was learning about Wikipedia, however while I don't much care about the deletion of the captain's letters your edits left an article that was much poorer then when you started, you might want to consider the nature of your editing in the future. Not a mistake

Hi thanks for bringing the matter of the HHC academy to everyone's attention. It's never wrong to raise a potential copyright conflict. It's actually not ununusual that there's an alternate explanation to copying the contents of a website. On one occasion I rescued text about a synagogue that the reporting editor did not notice was based on the 1911 Jewish Encycl - the same source that the website had used. I also carefully crafted an article (with others) on the history of a theatre, only to find it delete because it was word for word the content of a commercial website - they had copied it from here - without attribution. (I had to completely rewrite that one!). No the whole issue of copyright is a minefield, and I'm glad there are people who take it seriously; the principle in wiki is to err on the side of caution and you did nothing wrong here. cheers Kbthompson (talk) 12:51, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes. And given the circumstances, I'd likely act the same way again. But the article was deleted when in fact the copying was done the other way around, and so it never hurts to apologize when there's an error even if the actions were well-intended. Cheers, -- Whpq (talk) 12:59, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

HCCA

Guys, Many thanks for Wikifying the HCCA article. It's much improved as a result. I notice that citations are required for the information. Most of the factual information regarding results etc is collated and kept by me in the form of word documents. However, there is plenty of independent and external verification for the factual content. This can be found on various webpages and is mainly in the form of match reports on various college websites and in the Hackney Gazette. There are at least 4 articles about HCCA on Hackney Gazette Online currently. Other verification can be found via the British Colleges Sport (BCS), English Schools Basketball Assoc. (ESBBA), Northamptonshire Schools (NSBBA) under Moulton College, Cardinal Newman College websites as well as the information published on the London United website. Would you like me to set up links to all of these on the external links section of the article? Cheers! Chris Cjm364 (talk) 22:05, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

References are set up in their own references section, and its best to make use of citation templates to do them. The syntax can be a bit daunting for an inexperienced editor so feel free to ask me questions if you have difficulty. I have the article watchlisted right now, so I will be aware of changes and can also step in if I notice didfficulties. WP:CITE provides information on citations. Spam King

Hi, I made a couple of contributions by adding a related section to people that are listed in Wikipedia as Spam Kings. The additions were removed. Today I noticed as I read on Wikipeadia about Winston Churchill that it had a section: "See also: List of stutterers." Is that the proper way to do it in Wikipedia? Could I list a "See also: Spammers" or "see also: Spam Kings" Please advice. Thanks Billgdiaz (talk) 16:14, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

The link to spammer is alerady in each o the articles so there is no need to provide any additional linking. Spam King is a disambiguation page and should not be linked to. There is no article list of spammers. You are welcome to start one. Regards -- Whpq (talk) 16:59, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I noticed

I noticed that you have tagged several biographies of music professors created by User:Thenthorn for copyright violation speedy deletion recently. All appear to be violations of links in the form http://music.ucsd.edu/people/people.php?cmd=fm_music_directory_detail&query_Full_Name=+Rand+Steiger. The images in the articles also appear to come from that source, yet to be present on Commons. Would you do me a favor and also go over to commons and nominate the images for deletion as you encounter more of these? GRBerry 18:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I checked one of the images in the Commons and I am unsure of the copyright status. The Images are CC Share-alike 2.0 licenses as taken from Flickr. The profile of the Flickr uploader states he is the manger of something or other at UCSD, and the photos are press photos. I am not too familiar with Commons, but I will try to get some sort of discussion going on the copyright status of the images. -- Whpq (talk) 18:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I already nominated all 6 of them in the pages you have thus far identified, as 6 separate commons deletion nominations. You might group the nominations though, as the issues will be the same for all of them. Generally speaking if someone is an employee of an organization, photos that they take in the course of their employment repsonsibilities will have copyright owned by the employer, but this is subject to specific contract/agreement terms. GRBerry 18:28, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I got your message on my talk page, and I was going to do something. But since I didn't actually track the image names, I don't know the names of the images to nominate them for deletion on Commons. I ddi see that Rand Steiger's image has been nominated, and I've added my comments about the muddiness of the copyright in the discussion there. Regards, -- Whpq (talk) 18:27, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Since I've already flagged all 6 for deletion, you could use my commons contributions from to find the other 5 - or just search for my username in the daily deletion log.  ;) I was more asking that if you tag any more of that user's articles here you also go over to commons and flag the image there. I'm going to take a break from processing CSD#G12 with this article creator, better that it not look like a single admin hounding them. GRBerry 18:31, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll head over to Commons and look for the others through your contribution log. -- Whpq (talk) 18:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Competition Cams Article

As it stands, the article reads like advertising. The references provided in the article do
not constitute reliable sources for establishing notability. A further search on my own finds
what look to be press releases in Google News, but nothing to support notability. \
     -- Whpq (talk) * 19:52, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

How does the article read like advertising? Do you even know what the guidelines for ad writing are? I do. I'm a copywriter by trade. Be that as it may, there is no stated opinion, "we", "our", "you", any other pronoun or directive speech which constitutes advertising's writing style. Therefore, I have no clue from where Whpq's comment came. Also, the reliable sources are in the market research conducted by SEMA, which handles the industry's research and reports these findings to the census bureau. I cited the association as a reference for a reason!

You have butchered our article. UIC College of Engineering is a satellite campus of the University of Illinois. The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana has their own article and as many Colleges of Engineering articles on Wikipedia consist of a Research section. You also managed to get rid of our external links to our Departments.

Louis Kamper biography

Hello If I am using this screen correctly, I am sending this message to the individual who flagged and deleted my biography of the Detroit architect Louis Kamper. If that is correct, I'd like to understand why you did so. Over the last 10 years, I have complied and written a short biography of his body of work and his career that has been found to be quite useful in the architectural community. If any of my information is incorrect, I would love to hear from you and find out what you feel is incorrect as well as find out your sources of information about him. For such a major player in the Detroit architectural community, there is only fragments of information out there about him. My bio was created by pulling all those fragements together. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you so that we can discuss this information. Thanks for your time.

Re:

ok, I guess it was a copyright violation. I must have looked at the wrong webpage. I haven't been an admin for very long (like 3 days), and I'm kind of jittery about deleting pages I guess. Sorry about that. Thingg 18:41, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

??? - Paul Elgin Article

Question. Why are you trying so hard to have the Paul Elgin article deleted? The moderator made his decision and you're STILL trying to have him second guess his decision? Why is this article, out of the millions of articles on wiki, such a problem for you? The proper channels per Wiki guidelines weren't even followed for the page to be deleted anyway. Please advise. Thank you. Htentceo (talk) 07:57, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I believed that the guidelines were not followed and asked the administrator to review the decision. He agreed that he had made a mistake and closed the AFD as delete. I am trying to improve the quality of Wikipedia. Articles not meeting the inclusion criteria need to be deleted in order o maintain this quality. If you truly believe the guidelines have not been followed, you can ask the closing administrator to review his decision, just as I had, and if you still beleive you have a case, you can take the issue to Deletion Review. -- Whpq (talk) 09:50, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Script Package

Hey, i m using a script package but i am having problem in tagging articles and welcoming users. Could you please help in this regard that how can i do corect it. I am using Firefox, this problem is persisting from last 2 days, before that it was working correctly but now its not working, i don't know why!!! --BurhanAhmed (talkcontribs) 13:15, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not particularly familiar with the scripting tools, so I have limited knowledge in that area. You might want to try adding a {{helpme}} tag to get somebody to assist you, or you can ask at WP:HELPDESK. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 20:24, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Regarding your recent reversion, I've reverted back as I believe it does need to be wikified. It may be me, I just don't know; if it is, please tell me.--Stereotyper (talk) 22:39, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Relevant internal links already exist in the article. The formatting and layout appears to conform to the manual of style. What exactly do you think needs to be done, because I don't see it. -- Whpq (talk) 22:53, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I apologise, you see- I also have a manual of style, but for most stubs, I can't do that. Please, free to revert back stating this discussion in the edit summary. Thank you, Stereotyper (talk) 10:29, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

why did you remove liner notes from Hidden World

Is there any rule against that? A lot of useful information about the album was removed, and this is not good.  Grue  17:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I felt it was excessive detail falling under the trivia category from the manual of style for music guidelines. -- Whpq (talk) 20:17, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, because who produced the album, who created album art, and so on is all excessive detail? Ridiculous.  Grue  09:50, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps too much information was removed. I would suggest that some editors from Wikiproject Music could be asked to have a look at the article. -- Whpq (talk) 11:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and I need some help

Thanks for editing out the text...it was something I did in the beginning but never quite removed. Anyway, I began this Category (WHO-Recognized English Medium Medical Programs (China)), and have so far tried to maintain it, and I need to have the "International Education College of the Xinjiang Medical University" listed under "X-" & not "I-" [XMU is it's parent university]

How can I do this?Compendium wmc (talk) 01:17, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I guess my first question would be if that is the correct listing? Should the International College be listed in the category, or the university itself? If it should be the university itself, then the category tag should be moved to the university article. However, if it is the International college, the you should use a sort key like this: [[Category:WHO-Recognized English Medium Medical Programs (China)|Xinjiang Medical University, International Education College of]]. I hope this answers your question. -- Whpq (talk) 12:31, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! That whole Xinjiang University bit was confusing at first, but then I moved the page to "Xinjiang Medical University: International ...", which I believe was a better way of representing the College. Thanks again. Compendium wmc (talk) 12:23, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

misplaced?

I imagine those "misplaced templates" suggest that they should be on the main article page; however it seems a bit much to over-emphasize the article's need for greater objectivity. By placing them on the Talkpage, the primary editors have the ability to see the various problems. I would prefer that you replace those notices...or place them on the main article. If you place them on the main article, you run the chance of alienating the writer, and of hurting his/her feelings. Truthfully, the main article belongs in Userspace until the many problems are addressed. By placing the notices on the Talkpage, the writer may be more inclined to digest (and discuss) the differences of opinion. Discussion is the primary objective here, not infuriating the writer. ThsQ (talk) 15:37, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

I understand your concern. However the usage of the templates are for the main article space. As for placing them into the main article, I did check the main article and found that it already had an {{articleissues}} template that covered the concerns so there was no need to add them into the article page. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 15:43, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough, I suppose. I placed the {{articleissues}}. Have you had the opportunity to evaluate my decision? Do you believe that it is too harsh an assessment? After reading through a portion of Mr. Orlin J. Grabbe's internet activity, I am under the impression that Mr. Grabbe's biography could be an element of a very clever hoax, and that the editors of the biography need to address all the issues presented by the various templates very quickly. ThsQ (talk) 15:52, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
I've only glanced over the article, and wouldn't call it a hoax. It is however not very well written, and could use a heavy dose of copy-editting and addiitonal references. The citation request tags are useful for identifying specific facts that need sourcing, however, given the size of the article and the number of claims that are not sourced, I probably would have added a {{refimprove}} tag requesting an overall improvement in referencing. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 16:02, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Alright. I have no desire to beat this issue into the ground. The {{refimprove}} is covered already in the various notices of the {{articleissues}} so I am under the impression that the editors will receive notification someday when they return. I will move on. Thank you for your opinion on this matter. ThsQ (talk) 16:12, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Remote Area Broadcasting Services, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: RABS. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:06, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Greg Giametta

Hello Whpq, re: the Greg Giametta article, we believed we used the correct symbols to insert links, however we've rewritten the article using "Insert Reference" links and published reliable sources such as Roadrunner Records and Harmony Central. Please have a look as we like the speedy deletion attribute removed ;), thanks, Electroman2007 (talk) 21:30, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I have added the reference section to expose the references provided. Note that the key thing for notability is reliable sources writing about the subject. I will note that Wikipedia is not a reliable source. And I would also suggest that the hangon tag is not sufficient by itself to stave off speedy deletion, and you should explain on the article talk page why the hangon tag was added. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 22:46, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Fixed the notability sources other than wikipedia for Greg Giametta

Thanks for the info Whpq, we've updated the links to reference reliable news services and noted that /hangon/ was used to temporarily hold a delete while we cleaned up the links for further discussion and review, please have a look see ;) thanks for your patience. 1995 in music

Hi there. I appreciate your good work in contributing to the monumental and frustrating task of clean-up on the 'Years in music' pages. I noticed that you deleted an 'unreferenced section' tag in favour of the general article 'refimprove' tag. I have to own up and say it's largely me who goes round sprinkling citation tags on the 'Years in music' pages, including within sections. Having been attending to this area for a while, I tend to find that placing tags within sections is still a good idea, partly because the articles tend to be lengthy (in line count), meaning tags at the top aren't always as effective, and partly because they tend to attract enthusiastic but somewhat careless contributors who might be more careful if there's a tag staring them directly in the face. Keep up the good work, though. Alchemagenta (talk) 12:00, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the encouragement. Your reasoning on placing them in the sections makes a lot of sense. I'll add them back into the sections. It's better to have the original contributor source the information than to clean up afterwards. -- Whpq (talk) 13:43, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Does it count if it was done before knowing about the award? Check out the before image on Mirin. Anyways, the article was a stub so it wasn't a huge amount of work. But I certainly would be willing to take on a bigger one. I've been slowly going through 1995 in music. Technically speaking, at this point of contact, it's partially referenced, but it the referencing was done by me. Cheers! -- Whpq (talk) 03:42, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
  • I totally forgot about stubs when I wrote that thing. I've added a provision that says 3 stubs count towards one article, so you can choose to reference two more stubs or take on a larger article to claim the barnstar. - Mgm|(talk) 08:36, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

The comment removed was a direct personal attack, not a legitimate comment. That editor had been making a series of disruptive edits along with another editor whom he claims was involved in some level with the editing of this article, and that I had nominated the article for deletion as a form of "revenge". The real question is whether these people seriously believe the claims they are making, or if they are only making these claims in order to further the disruption of Wikipedia. French Wikipedia

Thank you for your comment that Wikipedia in another language is not a valid reference - I had naively assumed that an unqualified article was fair game! Cg2p0B0u8m (talk) 22:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

It's fine to copy the material over, but if it has no references in the French Wikipeddia, then it is the same situation on the English Wikipedia. It might improve. I've tagged it for references to alert other editors. I hadn't looked at the nominator's talk page. Goodness!!! -- Whpq (talk) 02:07, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
"Goodness" is right. I have the article set on watch and will be looking for more refs myself. What we need is a NASCAR fan who is also a Wikipedian... and it almost seems a contradiction in terms. I restored the hatnote to Samuel Moore (colonial official) because I believe it is standard to link to other people with the same name. Shortlived category

You, together with User:Ascidian, just cleared out the backlog of unsourced BLPs from June 2006 (articles changed from refimprove June 2006 because they did not have any articles). I don't think I have ever seen an article emptied so fast in such a constructive way, so thank you both very much! Fram (talk) 15:27, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

It offended my sensiblities that June and July 2006 popped back into existence. The backlog is daunting enough as it is without us slipping backwards into months we though we had already cleared. I've also done the same to the July 2006 category as has Ascidian. We're back to August 2006 again. -- Whpq (talk) 16:54, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Thought I'd add my thanks to you too as you did the majority of the work. I have to say it's the first time I've ever had an edit conflict whilst working through the unreferenced articles categories! I also notice you improved some of my refs by adding an archived link. How do I do this myself? I looked at the webcite page but I don't understand how to get the archive url. regards, ascidian | talk-to-me 17:34, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I was a little confused about WebCite at first as well. The key page you need to know is the archive page. enter the URL you want to archive and provide your email address for notification purposes. You will get an email telling you either the archive has completed properly, or has failed. If successful, you will also be provided with a short URL for the archive. This is the URL you would add to the reference in the wikipedia article. Once you get the hang of it, you may want to try the bookmarklet which allows you to click on a bookmark in your browser and have it automatically initiate the archive process against the current web page. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. -- Whpq (talk) 20:26, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow, archiving of news links sounds like a fabulous idea. Is that something bots can do? Are there limitations on its use? I tend to be lazy about refs in part because they aren't available for long anyway. I nominate Drmies to be in charge of this project. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:26, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't know if WebCite would take kindly to a bot hammering their site. But using the cite youself isn't hard. Give it a try! -- Whpq (talk) 02:53, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Normally, I won't resurrect these two month categories again, as I think all ref-related cats before August 2006 have been checked for unsourced BLPs now (many badly sourced ones left, but we can't tackle everything at once). All months starting from August 2006 may still see an increase of new unsourced BLPs though, by converting articles tagged with unreferenced or refimprove or something similar since then to the blpunsourced template where needed. This just moves them from one cat to another, the total amount of unref'd backlogged articles stays the same. Fram (talk) 07:28, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, I'll give it a try. ascidian | talk-to-me 20:33, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

It turns out the article is a copyvio - see my comment at the AfD and a post I have made at AN/I. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Editing Cellebrum Technologies article

Would be highly thankful if you could help me with improving the article further.

Raj Kumar Machhan (talk) 13:19, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't see what more can be done to improve the article with the sources currently available. -- Whpq (talk) 17:41, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks.

Raj Kumar Machhan (talk) 18:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you Whpq for your quick corrections on reverting the tagging of user:Alex Rio Brazil of articles that he saw on my userpage. It was a sustained, sockpuppet-assisted, counterattack by Alex Rio Brazil because I happened to tag the article of Aristotle Onassis. For more information please see: here. Thanks again and take care. Dr.K. logos 22:37, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

In light of the block, I've gone back and reviewed the articles I came across with the wikify tag, and adjusted or removed the other tags based on my own review of the article. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 00:31, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your thorough job. I really appreciate it. You can also have a look at the Aristotle Onassis article if you so wish. I tagged it and it started all this. I think that the article needs all the help it can get. Your expertise will be greatly appreciated there. It can also minimise the relentless edit war which occurs because this user does not understand the concept that he cannot remove the tags without discussion and consensus. On the other hand I will understand if you steer clear of this hornets nest. Take care for now and thanks again. Tasos (Dr.K. logos 01:57, 9 March 2009 (UTC))
I had a quick look and did a few things. The article is in very sad shape. The most appalling thing I see is that he is a shipping magnate, but the article makes absolutely no mention of how his shipping business was grown. In fact, the entire article reads like a tabloid. Having said that, I think there are too many tags applied. I've removed some of them, and in particular, the colonel affair section was overdone. If a section has been marked as confusing, that implies that copyeditting needs to take place to clear up how things are worded, so a copyedit tag is redundant. Similarly, if the section is tagged as relying on a single source, then it implies that reference improvements are needed and a refimprove tag is redundant. I'll probably poke around some more when I've got a moment. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 15:07, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. I absolutely agree with you that this article reads like a tabloid. It is also a high profile article with about 20,000+ hits a month. That means many people read it. I don't want Wikipedia to read like a tabloid. I want it to read like an encyclopedia. One of the problems is that the article, at least in its most controversial parts, is being written almost exclusively from the Evans biography, making large and sweeping claims without any corroborating evidence from anywhere else. This is what motivated me to improve the article. So I tagged it and I also started a discussion on talk enquiring about the problems of the Colonel section and all I got in return was a massive, sockpuppet assisted, tagging counterattack on the articles that were listed on my userpage. That was of course after a few days of edit warring on Aristotle Onassis by sockpuppets which kept removing my tags. You are obviously a tagging expert. You are also a dedicated Wikipedian who likes to improve the project in a calm and competent fashion. You also help people like me when asked to do so. I could not have asked for a better outcome. I have asked many things from you and this goes against my philosophy, which is to tend to leave people alone, especially in a volunteer environment like Wikipedia's. But your excellent work and the massive good you have done to the articles I am involved with, leave no other option but to ask of you a final favour. Please keep an eye on Aristotle Onassis over the next few days, after the blocked user returns, and lend a hand as you see fit. I am grateful for your help. Take care. Tasos (Dr.K. logos 17:10, 9 March 2009 (UTC))
The article is under semi-protection, so I suspect that at least one administrator has an eye on it. I will also leave it on my watch list for now. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 17:18, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Great. Thank again. Tasos (Dr.K. logos 17:46, 9 March 2009 (UTC))

Excess tag

Hi, You see this: 00:03, 9 March 2009 Whpq (talk | contribs) (38,657 bytes) (remove excess tagging) (undo) Please, use the same creteria and remove excess tag from Onassis. We have to be imparcial, if one article cant have excess tag the other one dont too. Or, get back with tags in the first one, because they are entirily correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.19.54.99 (talk) 11:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Well done for spotting the attempted fake user in this AfD.  Chzz  ►  17:34, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Actually, most of the credit goes to Sinebot. It was easy to spot once Sinebot tagged the comment with an IP address. -- Whpq (talk) 17:36, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
I just noticed the sig - must've copied from mine to try and look more 'real', I guess. I gently warned the anon on their talk. Cheers, --  Chzz  ►  17:43, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
