Sleeper sweep?
Spicy, whenever you have the time, can you run another CU sweep for Thakor Sumant Sinhji Jhala socks? Rcently, I blocked a few more of their accounts that were caught only after they were auto-confirmed and one managed to get extended-confirmed. Safe to assume that there are a few dozen more ready to be activated. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 18:49, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- One sleeper, Meitie Sangam (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki). Gokulwasi looks like Anujror from a technical perspective. There are some measures in place to stop them from creating as many accounts, which might be why they are currently focusing on gaming autoconfirmed and extended confirmed. Spicy (talk) 09:43, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Spicy. Good to the the measures slowing the flood!
- Btw, behavioral evidence of these three recent accounts (see for example, the post-block talkpage abuse) would suggest that they are operated by the same person; see also your CU findings from May. So likely that Anujror = TSSJ although I have no idea how that would work with the technical CU data and them apparently using mobile devices to edit. Abecedare (talk) 15:21, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- There's no chance that it's the same operator behind the keyboard. There are some behavioural differences as well. However, it's obvious that they're both communicating off-wiki, as well as occasionally sharing accounts. Spicy (talk) 17:05, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Fishytimes196 seems fishy to me
Spicy, do you think Fishytimes196 is Farmer4-89? They're both trolls, they both use Internet speak (u instead of you), they edit similar topics (Fishy has far fewer edits to articles as they've spent most of the time being disruptive on their Talk page and at WP:AN), and they both use the mobile platform.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:27, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Fairly Likely. Combined with the behaviour, I guess I'll block. Spicy (talk) 22:55, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. You made a point that it wasn't a CU block. Any reason why?--Bbb23 (talk) 23:53, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Because I wouldn't have blocked based on the CU data alone, and I think it's best to avoid CU blocks unless they are absolutely necessary - there's a tendency for non-CU admins to summarily decline CU block appeals just because they are CU blocks, or worse, refer them to Arbcom. Not that I think that this user should be unblocked... Spicy (talk) 12:55, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. You made a point that it wasn't a CU block. Any reason why?--Bbb23 (talk) 23:53, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
IPs and SPI question
Hi Spicy, I open yet another request at TheCaseOfGoliath but this time it is an IP range. I did not request CU because CUs can't comment on IPs but thought I would double check. Is it ever appropriate to request CU for IPs? S0091 (talk) 18:11, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Block evasion?
This looks like block evasion, see nearly identical edit that I reverted, which was made by the account you blocked. ☆ Bri (talk) 21:46, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
You deleted Festuca scabriuscula
You just deleted the page Festuca scabriuscula back in 21th of May 2023. What happened to warrant a delete? BloxyColaSweet (talk) 22:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- BloxyColaSweet, the redirect led to a page that did not exist (Festuca acanthophylla var. scabriuscula). Spicy (talk) 00:31, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation
A user has filed a sock report on me Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/R2dra#12 August 2024 when a IP told him to do so 1, can you please confirm that I'm a sock or not as that user is reverting my edits and calling me a sock puppet, which is not acceptable NorthSiderRock (talk) 07:53, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, can you please block the user "DeValenc" who is for certain a new sockpuppet of the banned user "Belyny" you blocked some months ago. See his last edit of 5 August. Thanks. Arx76 (talk) 08:37, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

- Hi @Spicy, can you please take action ? Thanks Arx76 (talk) 12:03, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- I aslo notify @Ponyo who archived the case. Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Belyny and block "DeValenc" who is a new sockpuppet (account created by the banned Belyny to contribue on the very same topic). Arx76 (talk) 12:09, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Arx76, please be respectful of Wikipedia:Assume good faith and be civil rather than attacking other editors. You wrote "DeValenc" who is for certain a new sockpuppet of the banned user "Belyny". Accusing someone of sockpuppetry without any proof but simply to delete some information given by published and reliable sources as you did [1] is a violation of policies. Am I a banned editor? No. Am I a blocked editor? No. Am I responsible for vandalism on Wikipedia? No. Am I responsible for violating Wikipedia's rules? No. Do I use a proxy or VPN? No. So I ask you to stop your unacceptable and offensive behavior towards me. Otherwise I would be obliged to request a sanction against you. --DeValenc (talk) 16:18, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Arx76 if you think DeValenc is a sock, then file an SPI with your evidence and let an available CU handle it. Spicy is not consistently on and other CUs may be unlikely to look into it without an SPI. S0091 (talk) 20:01, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

I don't know, anything really. You're eminently competent as a checkuser, so thanks for the cu and related stuff you've done. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:34, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Brogo13
Not really enough for an SPI, but I noticed this, this, and this -- strange links in replies, replacing dashes with templates -- and it made me think of Brogo13. Anuj ror range
Hi, the range(2404:3100:1800::/40 (belonging to Anujror)) you blocked for socking back in June[2], is now unblocked and is back to its typical caste based disruption [3]. Perhaps it's time for another range block. Ratnahastin (talk) 15:17, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

- I'm sorry that you won't be a checkuser any longer. You seemed to have an encyclopedic memory of all of our regular sockpuppets and were a CU I turned to when I had questions. Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,

UPE?
A while ago, you brought an SPI case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/125BOP against a WP:UPE ring whose targets included Daniel W. Nebert. An editor Bo2pup with signs of precociousness has shown up to push some of the same old there, though with more restraint and competence than before (despite similarity of name). They otherwise are editing marginally notable biographies in a pattern that makes me think WP:UPE -- per WP:BEANS, perhaps should say why offline if at all. It is always possible that I am being paranoid, however. Does this pattern remind you of anything? Russ Woodroofe (talk) 18:23, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Meh, looked harder and found one almost-certainly linked account. I think that there are more, but checkusers will sort out. I hope everything is ok with you! Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:11, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello again. I got my tools back and took a look but I don't have anything more to say than Girth did, at least technically. Spicy (talk) 00:24, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Question
Hello Spicy, thank you for unblocking me! I wanted to ask if it’s okay for me to help Wikipedia by reverting vandalism and handling various edit requests (COI and semi-protected or even ECP?). I’m concerned that others might misinterpret it as gaming the system. Even after gaining EC rights, I assure you that I’ll use them responsibly and avoid disruptive edits.
