Rhys Healey
You reverted my modification on Rhys Healey because Transfermarkt isn't a reliable source (not in the French wiki thought). But did you check the 2020-21 Ligue 2 page where you can see that the game against Grenoble in May 2021 is part of the promotion play-off? The current stats are wrong. Nebuno (talk) 22:27, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Nebuno: Wikipedia itself is also not a reliable source. If there are other sources that confirm the changes you made please cite them. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:31, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- The Ligue 2 website itself, the Footballdatabase website (link), L'Équipe website, among others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nebuno (talk • contribs) 22:34, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- Here's a link of the Ligue 2 website where you can see his goals for 2020/21 season (link). At the bottom, they show the total of games and goals in L2 (50 games for 27 goals). Nebuno (talk) 22:37, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
How can you tell transfermarkt is not reliable?
Hello S. Sputnik: per title, how can you tell transfermarkt is not reliable? -- Ktsquare (talk) 05:01, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
- Much of the site's content can be edited by its users. According to its login page: Whether player info, coach info, club info, or match report – as a Transfermarkt user, you can edit and add to almost all data by yourself. This makes it a self-published and therefore unreliable source. Sir Sputnik (talk) 14:15, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
https://www.playmakerstats.com/too? -- Ktsquare (talk) 19:04, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- It's not a site I'm familiar with, but at first glance it looks to have the same issue. Sir Sputnik (talk) 23:33, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
How about this news report... Shall it be considered as a reliable source for the South Sudanese national player transferred to the Iranian professional team.? -- Ktsquare (talk) 19:05, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Again, it's not a site I know. For transfers, the websites of the signing club is usually your safest bet. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- From that sentence, you Sir_Sputnik means
1) you need to know a site to say if it is reliable. 2) website of the signing club is usually reliable. Please confirm if those 2 statements are true. If confirmed, please add to a section in Project:Soccer.... if there is one such project. -- Ktsquare (talk) 18:29, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, that's more or less correct. Assessing whether a given source is reliable is a not insignificant amount of work. Unless I've already done that work for a given source, or enough other people have for there to be a community consensus on the issue, I'm usually not going to give anything more than my first impressions. As for club websites, they are of course primary sources, with all the issues that entails, but for player transfers specifically, they are usually the most reliable source of information out there. 2021–22 Rahmatganj MFS season
Hello, I noticed that you deleted the 2021–22 Rahmatganj MFS season article, due to lack of notability. I think I have enough sources that proof that Rahmatganj MFS will take part in the upcoming Bangladesh Football Premier League (2021/22) season. (Source1) (Source2) (Source3). Since the page is protected i cannot create the article and I'm sure these sources are proof enough that the team is taking part in the upcoming League season (which started on 3rd February). Please let me know if I'm allowed can create the page again. Thanks. FNH004 (talk) 09:36, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
- With the season started, it seems reasonable that the WP:TOOSOON arguments raised at AfD no longer apply, so I've lifted the created protection. Sir Sputnik (talk) 00:20, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Help with SPI?
Hi - there's another sockpuppet of User:Carmena Seoul. The report has been archived and I'm not sure how to add this new one. I think you un-archived it last time, so maybe you can help me out here. Thanks. The new sock is User:Alice Tittle BTW. Thanks. - Special-T (talk) 14:24, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Special-T: The archive is meant a record of previous reports and should remain unchanged. If you're ever unsure about this sort of thing, report the suspected sock using twinkle and it will just handle all of the structural issues like that for you. The only mistake you can make this way is to file a case under the wrong name, and that's easy enough to fix if it does happen. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:09, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was mis-operating Twinkle... Someone else reported it in the meantime. - Special-T (talk) 15:41, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

RE: Majid Khodabandelou and Transfermarkt
Originally, when I saw your claim that 'Transfermarkt was unreliable', I was confused, because WP:NPPSG did show it as reliable. After checking the Reliable Sources Noticeboard, as well as WP:FOOTY, I made the move to change Transfermarkt on WP:NPPSG from 'Reliable' to 'Unreliable' so others don't get confused like I was. Good move to remove the source. SabreOnYouTube (talk) 16:36, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Transfermarkt links for attendance and referee
Hi,
You removed all transfermarkt links with the note "transfermarkt is not reliable" on the 1972–73 UEFA Cup page. I'm ok with that statement, but my question: in this case shall all the information be removed which can be found only on transfermarkt? On this specific page: all the attendance numbers and all the referees.
Thanks,
--Simy69 (talk) 07:19, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

SPI
In regards to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kristianatienza, would requesting a CU check myself when making a report reduce the work of others (in cases like this, where there's not much evidence to go on)? Or is it simply more convincing coming from an SPI clerk (/admin)? I've requested CU checks before but always felt a bit out of bounds for doing so, so have been reluctant to do so. – 2.O.Boxing 00:32, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
- If you think a CheckUser would help in a given case, absolutely make a request. The strength of a request hinges on the evidence and reasons supporting it, not who made the request. Cases where there isn't much editing from the suspected sock to go on, but what little there is is suspicious, are one of the textbook cases where the use of CheckUser tools is useful. On one hand, you have reasonable grounds for suspicion, but on the other, it's not so obvious as to be easily resolved without CheckUser. Sir Sputnik (talk) 01:19, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello and thanks for blocking sockpuppets in the Monarchy of Cambodia page. A new user was made and he has been reverting the previous edits to come back to Camhistory's edits. However, after checking the timeline of kings it seems to make more sense than the previous state of the page. So I have kept his/her changes. The page has a lot of problems (inconsistencies, unsourced content etc) but his edits still seem to make more sense to me, in relation to the timeline and names of kings. Danial Bass (talk) 12:44, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Correction: when I said "it seems to make more sense", it only made sense when I compared the monarchy page with the page that the sockpuppet created, I have reverted to the stable version of that page which still has inconsistencies but is still better than "that" version. Sorry for the confusion. Danial Bass (talk) 16:13, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.

Need help with filing a SPI report
@Sir Sputnik, when filling a SPI report do I list IP addresses in |1= parameter or make a new parameter with |ip1=? Qwerty284651 (talk) 15:07, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Qwerty284651: If you're concerned about formatting, I'd suggest using WP:Twinkle to file your SPI report, since it just handles all the formatting for you. It's been so long since I've created a report manually, that I didn't actually know which way is correct without looking it up. A quick perusal of open cases involving IP's suggest |1= is the correct formatting. Sir Sputnik (talk) 23:25, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, sir. Qwerty284651 (talk) 23:27, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:43, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
"transfermarkt not reliable"
Hi! You wrote that "Transfermarkt is not reliable" here: Senad_Lulic. In my experience it is pretty reliable in terms of basic data like games, goals, line-ups. It's used as a source in several Wikipedia language projects. Tactical formations are not always accurate and of course the market values are always up for debate - but this data I am not using. What other source would you use for cup and championships games from the past in Italy and Switzerland as an alternative then? Termsandnumbers (talk) 11:38, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- Exactly! I totally agree on this one. How is transfermarkt not reliable?! Even clubs use that data for scouting a player. It is reliable and sometimes I agree, there might be something missing. Hans Footballscout2023 (talk) 21:39, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. - The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.

SPI
Please can you explain me how to open an SPI? The Track1News seems quite expert for someone who has been on the Wiki for only three months He has already collected some complaints about his modus operandi in his talk. He has already done two reverts to me not caring about the MOS (see Carl Lewis) of biographies of track and field athletes. In addition his arrogance, in all respects recalls the Jgwikid. --Kasper2006 (talk) 16:51, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- For actually opening a case, you have two options. My suggestion is to use twinkle, just cause it's lot more user friendly less prone to errors than the manual approach. Pull up the user or contributions page for the suspected sock. In the twinkle menu, select ARV. Under report type, select Sockpuppet, and fill in the form. If you don't twinkle, you can submit a report manually from WP:SPI. Open up the collapsible box labelled How to open an investigation, enter the username of the master account, in this case Jgwikid, into text box and click submit. Then follow the instructions on the editing form on where to place the suspected sock account name, and evidence. Regardless of how you chose to submit the report, you'll need to present evidence. This should include a brief description of the behaviour that makes you suspect sockpuppetry, along with samples of that behaviour from both the suspected sock, and the master account (or previous socks), preferably in the form of diffs. Hopefully that answers your question. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:49, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

'Transfermarkt Not Reliable'
You've marked transfermarkt as an unrelaible source for one of my articles. How is this an unreliable source considering it is one of the biggest and most well documented football statistic websites and alternatives like Soccerway are accepted? Arbres (talk) 13:47, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Arbres: Per the site's login page: Whether player info, coach info, club info, or match report – as a Transfermarkt user, you can edit and add to almost all data by yourself. This makes it a self-published source. This has cause problems in the past with incorrect information that likely originated on Wikipedia making its way onto Transfermarkt. Obviously this leads to serious circular reporting concerns. Sir Sputnik (talk) 17:15, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, that makes sense, is there a list of websites that are accepted as sources? Thanks. Arbres (talk) 15:25, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

Regarding Greek Stadiums
Regarding my edit which was reverted in List of football stadiums in Greece, I explain in detail in the relevant talk page why I put Karaiskakis Stadium in the second position, above Agia Sophia Stadium. Regarding transfermarkt not being a reliable source, I put two sources, one from a journalist website and one from the official Super League Greece website which provides the attendance for a match which was announced sold-out (more matches have been announced sold-out and also have a capacity of 31,100). I was the one to initially ask for protection in this page, but AEK Athens F.C. website states the capacity including the suites (which is not the all-seater customary one), while Olympiacos F.C. websites states the all-seater one.
What could also potentially be helpful is my recent post here. The difficulty in finding "reliable" sources emerges from the fact that AEK Athens F.C. website has stated a capacity of 32,500, but the maximum attendance that the stadium can hold is 31,100 according to official records. 32,500 is a number with suites, but suites do not count in attendance for a football match. The capacity records from slgr.gr (which I explain thoroughly in the Agia Sophia Stadium talk page), along with the announcements from AEK that the matches against Ionikos F.C. and PAOK F.C. were sold out, which are included in my comment there, are reliable enough though to solve the misunderstanding. Transfermarkt again!
Thanks for picking that up. I know absolutely nothing about football. Would any of these be suitable, [3], [4], [5]? The last looks rather commercial. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 18:04, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- @KJP1: You're best bet would be to check with the relevant WikiProject at WT:FOOTY. The time period you're looking at here is well outside my wheel house as well. That being said, I'm skeptical of all three of these sources. Eu-football provides no info as to who is behind the site, while the other two are self-published. The middle one is written by someone who claims to be an expert, so depending on how credible that claim is, it might be okay. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:45, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, he returned as Special:Contributions/114.5.104.166. I googled how to calculate a range and basically you need to remove 166 and replace it with 0/16, like this Special:Contributions/114.5.104.0/16. 185.165.188.68 (talk) 20:22, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Text of a deleted article
Hi. Last month you deleted Jacob Cumming on G5 grounds. I've gotten a list of the sources which were in the article at REFUND, but need to ask you for the text apparently! From a glance at the sources I think I may have edited the article and the chances are that the chap is notable, even though the article was created by a sock. If you can help me out at all - userfied would be fine, or just the text - then it would be helpful. Thanks. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:23, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Blue Square Thing: You did not edit the article. The only edit to the article that we not block evasion was the G5 speedy deletion request. As a rule, I will not restore content created in evasion of block, unless that block has been lifted. This is not the case here. If you the think the subject is notable, you are of course welcome to recreate the article in your own words. Sir Sputnik (talk) 21:02, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2023).
Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

- Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
- A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that
[s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment
.
- Special:Contributions now shows the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. (T324166)
- The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming
local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus
. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged tonote when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful
.
- Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

Reliable sources for celebrity birthdays
Hello! You wrote that transfermarkt is not reliable [[6]] - could you please suggest a list that I can use as reliable sources for this kind of information? Maxim Masiutin (talk) 04:26, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

The page Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Rafiul Officail has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category had been empty for seven days or more and was not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may have become empty on occasion.
Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Administrators' newsletter – December 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
- Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.

Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
- The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 11, 2023 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
Reliable sources for UEFA clubs' association football competition
Could you suggest a reliable source of clean sheets in Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League since you said that transfermarkt is not a reliable source. 爨龘龘 (talk) 04:29, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- The other stats sections of the article are reliably sourced, so if those sources also report on clean sheets that would be fine. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:59, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Sir Sputnik However the UEFA source reports on clean sheets for outfield players too, not goalkeepers only. 爨龘龘 (talk) 09:05, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Neil Warnock
You have undone a revision on Neil Warnock regarding the amount of games he took charge of during his second spell as manager.
He took charge of 23 matches. There were 15 in 2022-23 and then a further eight in 2023-24 before he left the club. I have provided a source for that.
You say the source is not reliable, so may I ask why you haven't provided a source that says he took charge of 24 games?
It was 23 matches. Look at the results between 16th of February 2023 and 20th of September 2023. In that period, Huddersfield Town played a total of 23 matches.
Please stop undoing the revision. Huddersfieldtown5 (talk) 20:02, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Neil Warnock - again
Please stop reverting the changes on Neil Warnock's managerial statistics.
Check out the dates yourself.
Look at the results between 16th of February 2023 and 20th of September 2023. In that period, Huddersfield Town played a total of 23 matches.
I'll keep changing it back to 23 matches because that is the amount of matches he took charge of. I attended each and every one of the 23 matches and seeing as though they literally occurred in the past year, I think I know how many games he took charge of. Huddersfieldtown5 (talk) 22:19, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Neil Warnock Games
Between the 16th of February 2023 and the 20th of September 2023, Huddersfield Town played a total of 23 matches, not 24. Stop making edits on a subject that you know nothing about. All you have to do is check the results between those two dates and you'll see that the club played 23 matches and not 24! Huddersfieldtown5 (talk) 22:31, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry
Hi, I think I found some Sockpuppets of ID adresses that you have blocked/banned recently : this user ID adress 36.68.217.187 and this one 180.251.90.25. Those adresses have made the same type of edits that the ID adresses you banned/blocked (especially on 2023 AFC Asian Cup pages) + they come from the same areas in the world (South East ASia). Would it possible to investigate them and revert their edits ? Best regards Pindrice (talk) 14:36, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

OK to unblock? Thanks -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 09:44, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Deepfriedokra: The fact that they only ever edited within COI area in prior to their block for quite some time prior to their block is to me significant risk factor for recidivism. Of course, that's not something they change. If you think you can safely unblock this person, I don't mind you doing so as long you make point of keeping an eye on them for a while.
