Edit warring notice

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Ngô Đình Cẩn, Dương Văn Minh, and other articles between you and Nguyễn Quốc Việt - show that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:14, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Nguyễn Khánh into Thích Trí Quang. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Article tagging

[edit]

Hi and thanks for your efforts in tagging articles for problems. If you wouldn't mind a little constructive criticism, I have some advice. There is no need to "double up" on tags. For example, in Battle of Burki, you added {{page numbers needed}} at the top and then {{page needed}} to each instance. Just do one or the other, but not both. In this article, since there are so many footnotes missing page numbers, the banner on top is good enough. Secondly, in the same article, you added {{unreliable source inline}} to all of the instances of one source. It would better if you just tagged the source directly. Lastly, when you leave a major tag like {{POV}} you really should leave a message on the article talk page to explicitly state your concerns, even when you think it's obvious. Editors are not mind-readers and what is obvious to you may not be to others. I know you put it in your edit summary, but it's a pain in the butt to have to search the article history to find it. I've come across many instances where an article has been tagged for whatever maintenance for many years, but there's no explanation why it's there and the tagger hasn't been active for a long time, so there's no way to figure out what someone is expected to do (I end up removing the tags in those cases). Thanks again for your hard work and keep it up. howcheng {chat} 15:47, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removing hantus in articles

[edit]

Can you tell me the reason why you remove all the hantus in articles I added? Each Vietnamese name has a hantu (hán tự), the literal meaning of a name is given on its hantu, like the way Korean names and Japanese names have their hanjas and kanjis. Model Seeder (talk) 14:44, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Han tu is not used in contemporary VN anymore and ther isn't any evidence that these people use it on a daily basis Bumbubookworm (talk) 21:01, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hantu is not used in usual writing but it’s still used in temples, relics,... Most of Vietnamese name their children by hanviet, and the writing system which indicates those names is hantu, you know? A word written in chuquocngu may have a lot of way of writing in hantu, for examples: my name is Minh (明) which means bright, not Minh (冥) which means dark. So i am not giving up adding hantus. Model Seeder (talk) 11:39, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(Vietnamese)#The_use_and_transliteration_of_Sino-Vietnamese_characters Bumbubookworm (talk) 23:08, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding hantus helps us to realise the meaning of each word and avoid confusion between words. For examples, my sister’s name is Quỳnh (瓊) which actually means a jade or something beautiful, not Quỳnh (惸) which means solitary, do you understand? Notice

The article Thủy Tiên (Vietnamese-American singer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability; ref is to the subject's website

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Thủy Tiên (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If someone is a sock, reverting them two dozen times is ridiculous, and I don't understand why you didn't notify anyone or file an SPI. Drmies (talk) 14:13, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ah good morning sir, unfortunately in my experience at WP, my reports to noticeboards eg AIV, RFPP tend to get ignored by admins or I get treated at the same level at vandals or people who deliberately put fake sources and get told it's a 50-50 content dispute or whatever, so I've learned that for peons like me, I should just sent a tale page notice to some admin who has prior experience in whoever the relevant vandal is. I have been around long enough to know that self-help is the best way here in the absence of having special admin armour or whatnot ... But it has amused me how easy it is for famous vandals and hoaxers to leave their mark around here. Anyways, if you look at the cat for previous socks of Japanese555, he also likes football and likes amusing us all by advertising his reincarnation status with the same -555 suffix, apart from the fact that you can see he has visited my fanbook quite often. Also, you can see in the history of the German football team page, his recent socks were tagged by others with the omniscient eye as reincarnations of a rather famous chap well-known to the sock-enforcement folks of WP Bumbubookworm (talk) 20:07, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets of Japanese555 (or Phạm Văn Rạng/Free Bloc)

[edit]

Good day to you sir. Thank you for your tiredless contributions to our war against sockpuppets.
I am a non-admin sockpuppet investigator from vi.wiki community, and very pleased to see that you got ignored and criticized for reporting sockpuppets. Since most people there do not really care about socks, and vi.wiki does not have many active admins as it needs, I need your experience.
Please let me know if you agree. Otherwise, you do not need to reply.

Just dropped by to say that I agree with NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh here! Any of these "555", "Lok", and "OTDung" looking usernames in this topic area are almost certainly socks, and you can report them at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Phạm Văn Rạng. You can see some of the confirmed examples at Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Phạm Văn Rạng. — MarkH21talk 01:48, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bumbubookworm, regarding this edit, the removed text was actually from another sockpuppet so apparently there's a few in the area. However, I was looking and could not find an SPI for Japanese555. Is there one? If not, it is helpful to file them, as they can help pick up other accounts that may not have been noticed. CMD (talk) 02:25, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note and for your contributions to the TNH Page. I will make an attempt at explaining the pedagogical contributions section - I have a friend who wrote a thesis on TNH and who may have references and explanations that are relevant. Regardless of the outcome (blurb / not blub), it is worth making an effort to make his contribution clear. It may take some time, though, so please be patient. I will attend to this again tomorrow afternoon. BTW TNH himself would have said "Wikipedia Front Page or Not Wikipedia Front Page... Hi Bumbubookworm,

I noticed you're adding some scientific discoveries to Days of the Year pages. While the discoveries are indeed significant and you are citing them well, new entries for events are supposed to be notable enough to have an article about the event itself. For example in this edit, you added the publication of an important discovery about protons. However, the event of the publication isn't significant enough to pass WP:EVENTDOY. In contrast, the first detonation of a nuclear weapon is significant enough for inclusion as the article about Trinity (nuclear test) demonstrates.

Yes, there's a lot of crap already in the DOY pages, but the DOY project is trying to clean them up and remove the cruft.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and keep up the otherwise great contributions. Toddst1 (talk) 13:14, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, for research discoveries, the only date that one would have access to is the day the research was unveiled to the public, ie published in a journal, or granted a patent or the like. We have no idea when some professor/inventor actually figured something out in their office/lab unless they livestreamed themselves [not likely]. Nuclear tests, satellite launches are publicly observable, but almost nothing else is. So the consequence of this is no discovery can be mentioned in the anniversaries? Is this what was intended? To exclude achievements that are observable by the public near-'live', on the same day? Do notable works of literature count then? Because they would also be categorised by thte day that they are published, and not when it was actually written Bumbubookworm (talk) 13:55, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the publication of the notable work was a notable event with an article about the event, then yes. However I don't think that will be very prevalent. For example, Roots: The Saga of an American Family is notable. The Publication of Roots: The Saga of an American Family is not notable enough to have an article about the event. HowCheng recommended I check with you about my OTD questions. Philip Zimbardo is one of the most famous psychologists in history and will be 90 years old on March 23. Two questions: 1. Is his notability and 90th worthy of inclusion in OTD? 2. Is the existing quality of the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Zimbardo good enough?

if the quality is not yet good enough, What specifically needs to be better before March 22?

I know Zimbardo personally, so want to acknowledge my connection - i wont change the article myself, but have other wiki-friends who have offered to help if you can give us any list of what needs to be fixed.
