Is There a God?, book by Swinburne
[edit]Dear Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
Thank you for this edit: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Is_There_a_God%3F&diff=1064813992&oldid=1064149096 which finally prompted me to write a missing Reception section for this article.
- You think the article now can do without the All plot template?
(I do not know how to give an impartial rendering of Swinburne's argument without a plotlike structure and me intruding.) Thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 20:49, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

Use MDY edits
[edit]Hello, in your current AWB use mdy run you have added Use mdy dates
to all the US military bases in your dataset. These articles do not use MDY, as per MOS:MILFORMAT, like the US military, the articles use DMY. Adding Use mdy dates
to articles that already contain Use dmy dates
causes template conflicts. Can you run through your datset and fix the erroneous ones please. Thanks - X201 (talk) 07:20, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- @X201: I can, yes. It'll have to be later tonight at the earliest, but I can redo the dataset later. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 12:56, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Curious to understand the rationale
[edit]Hi! You removed two 19th-century women physicians from the category American Women Physicians, and I'm curious about why. Is there a specific logic for this in the system that I should learn? I'm pretty new to this. Fortunaa (talk) 17:54, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Fortunaa: They were in the category Category:19th-century American women physicians, so they don't need to be in the parent. There's more information at Wikipedia:Categorization. Don't worry about it too much - it's a complicated and arcane system, and to be honest I know most of what I do due to long years of observation and trial and error. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:33, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Why not have the use MDY dates template task be a bot?
[edit]I see a number of your edits on my watchlist. The task of adding a use MDY dates template is one that could readily be accomplished by a bot. I took a look at your recent contributions and today at 16:56 you made about 50 edits, averaging just under one per second. You're obviously capable of making edits that would use your skills, background and talents, so why just sit there and click the Save button in AWB 50 times per hour? Is this the most productive use of your abilities as a Wikipedia editor? Alansohn (talk) 22:04, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: There is no bot that will do the trick, and I don't know the first thing about coding one. I will cop to going a bit faster than I ought to, sometimes, but I think this is a perfectly fine use of my talents. Besides, it's the sort of thing AWB is designed to do, and I know AWB has been used for similar tasks before. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:18, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

July music
[edit]my story today |
While today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. - I began the article about the woman in green. - What I noticed when adding categories to the images: the categories for Eberbach Abbey sit at Monastery Eberbach, an awkward translation! "Kloster Eberbach" works as a redirect. "Eberbach Abbey" should do the same (minimum), but better "Monastery Eberbach" should disappear completely (max, - a lot of work, I can see that). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:51, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I've spent most of July going down to the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy near Charlottesville, Virginia - I'm very impressed with their programming this year (it's my first time). The first concert was Mozart (overture to Cosi fan tutte), the Violin Concerto of Samuel Barber, and the first symphony of Emilie Mayer; the second opened with a Haydn overture (Il mondo della luna), and paired a little Chabrier with two contemporary trumpet concertos (Reena Esmail and Clarice Assad), and the Beethoven Fourth in the second half (excellent - very sprightly and energetic). I took a week off this past weekend for Faust at Wolf Trap; this coming weekend is back to Wintergreen, for a little Lili Boulanger, the world premiere of an electric guitar concerto by Daron Hagen, and the New World Symphony. And then I get a break in August. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:52, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing, amazing! - Today Jahrhundertring, and I just listened to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival (pictured), - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:00, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, if you're enjoying the summer I don't blame you! But is there any chance you can finish off the film categories by the end of the year?? I use the categories you've created to date for browsing very regularly! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:30, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Nothing too serious I hope! Bolivian, Bosnian, Brazilian, Bulgarian, Cambodian, Chilean, Chinese, Croatian, Dutch, Egyptian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lebanese, Malaysian, Nigerian, Norwegian, Paraguayan, Phillipine, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Russian/Soviet, Singaporean, Slovenian, Slovakian, South African, Swiss, Taiwanese, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese should be most of the remaining bigger ones, though there's a lot more which don't have many films. The good thing is that you've done the bulky ones already! I think it might be a good idea to create an Category:2000s African films for instance to include the others not in South African, Egyptian and Nigerian. I started on the Greek ones a few months back but didn't get very far as it's something which ought to be done quickly by AWB!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:03, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

August music
[edit]my story today |
Today's music is played by my brother's orchestra, conducted by two very young men on their way up (as you know), - the picture was taken shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began, - more detail on my talk. Images reached the day of the Tenebrae concert mentioned in July. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:42, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Ah, yes - I heard Nelsons conduct the BSO when I was up in Boston for WikiConference North America in 2019. Betsy Jolas, Ravel, and Shostakovich - I wasn't enthused about the program, but I wouldn't dream of passing up a chance to hear the BSO in Symphony Hall.
- The Saturday concert was nice - perhaps the Dvorak was a tad bland, but the Boulanger was wonderful. And I can't praise the Hagen concerto enough - it's called Film Noir, and if you know any electric guitarists looking for a showpiece I recommend it highly. Loads of fun, with some beautiful orchestral effects in it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:26, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sounds great! - My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:37, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Now: picture of heart-shaped cake(s) uploaded! - Today's story is about a tenor, - why his roles are not linked on the Main page remains a mystery to me. Today is also the birthday of the Bayreuth Festival. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:56, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Sorry for the silence, but there's really not much of anything to report around here right now. I'm beginning to look at concert schedules for September, but I've decided to take a quiet month for August - largely because I don't think there's that much to go hear. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:23, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

- That's unfortunate, but you and many millions of people of course. It's really one of the worst things you can do for concentration! I even have my piano keyboard at standing up level so I can practice for longer hours! I find eating one meal a day at 5pm I have much more energy than if I eat breakfast and lunch and I don't get a crash in the afternoon. I just have a green veg and fruit smoothie for breakfast! Also cold baths and showers do amazing things for my energy, the brain signals your the heart to pump more blood to the organs to protect them like your kidneys, which gives you an energy rush! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:20, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

- Wim Hof seems like a complete nutter, but he's definitely got it figured out on how to tap into the raw energy of the body. I think it's interesting that cold exposure ramps up mitochondria in cells, literally the energy factories in your body! Most people would look at cold showers and one meal a day and think "No way, not doing it!!" . But the benefits far outweigh any perceived suffering! I think I'll work on Vernazza soon, lovely fishing village in northern Italy. Pat Metheny did a gig there a few years back. So many Italian municipalities needing expansion still... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:45, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung. Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. - Yes, the one you created. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:40, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

Short description
[edit]Hi. I know that it’s been almost a year when you added the short description template on the Billboard lists, so you’re probably not even doing this anymore. But if you’re still adding the template on random pages, can you stop separating the template and the first paragraph? That’s has been causing a big white gap on these pages. The article Arabic International Phonetic Alphabet has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Article subject is non-notable. I cannot find any references to AIPA other than from the creator and his institution. I am also unaware of any usages of this transcription system.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Edderiofer (talk) 06:37, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- Are you sure, Edderiofer? At a glance I would have thought it meets content requirements, and has articles in Arabic and French (though I notice they are both tagged as being problematic). Have you tried looking for sources in Arabic or French? These book sources are listed on French Wikipedia:

- Mansour M. Alghamdi is the creator of AIPA, and the third source is from his (former) institution. I did not see the other two sources; if you can confirm that they are indeed secondary sources and add them to the article, I am happy for the PROD to be removed. [edit]Adding {{use dmy dates}} to thousands of pages does nothing and fails WP:MEATBOT (despite the fact that I know you're using a version of AWB that "allows" you to run things with the bot flag turned on). I have looked past your previous edit sprees in the past because they have on the whole been productive, but this is purely cosmetic and thus needs to stop. Primefac (talk) 06:20, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Primefac: My understanding is that it was allowed - I am aware of other editors who have done it in the past. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:12, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- For non-cosmetic edits, sometimes, though usually those editors are encouraged to get a bot if they're going to be doing it often and on many pages. There are just as many editors who are indefinitely blocked because they didn't listen when someone started raising concerns. I am not at all suggesting that you are (or will be) one of the latter editors, but for every "they do it too" there is someone who didn't get away with it. You make a silly number of bot edits, you might as well just get a bot account. Primefac (talk) 12:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- And, for the record, stop making cosmetic edits at those paces. Primefac (talk) 12:23, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Could you clarify? The fourth rule on WP:AUTOWIKIBROWSER says, "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. An edit that has no noticeable effect on the rendered page is generally considered an insignificant edit." I'm quite curious about this as while it has no effect on the rendered page, adding the dmy dates template does serve a purpose. —Panamitsu (talk) Please ping on reply 11:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Women's International Democratic Federation people
[edit]Hope all is well with you. I am working on the WiR/WiG pacifist/anti-war year-long initiatives and I keep running into members of the Women's International Democratic Federation. I think we should have a category, like we do for WILPF people. Just a brief search tells me there are lots and lots of members of the organization, i.e. Andrea Andreen, Maria Luísa Costa Dias, Monica Felton, Betty Millard, Kate Molale, Florence Mophosho, Lillian Ngoyi, Aleka Papariga, Thelma Dale Perkins, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Sükhbaataryn Yanjmaa, etc. I am sure with your magic wands, you can find and add more, but with my limited skill it would take me forever to create a category and populate it. Any chance this is something you can help with? SusunW (talk) 15:58, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Billy Wayne Davis
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Billy Wayne Davis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 24.183.96.14 (talk) 11:00, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
The article David Gopito has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This sculptor biography article lacks sufficient sources to establish notability. After searching, I found social media websites, galleries, and auction websites, but nothing in-depth about this person. Article created on 5 December 2006.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Geostubs
[edit]Copying Dr. Blofeld on this.
I have been futzing around with Antarctic mountain ranges, so far Framnes Mountains, Shackleton Range and Miller Range, trying to give a bit more information about location and geology and sections for each of the named features. In many cases, very little has been written about the individual features apart from an entry in Alberts, Fred G., ed. (1995), Geographic Names of the Antarctic (PDF), which gives coordinates, a very short description, and says when it was first visited and how it got its name, e.g.:
- Tricorn Peak 82°59′S 156°48′E / 82.983°S 156.800°E. Snow-covered peak, 2,320 m, on the ridge between Astro Glacier and Skua Glacier in the north part of the Miller Range. Seen by the northern party of the NZGSAE (1961-62) and so named because of its resemblance to a three-cornered hat.
That is gazetteer-type information worth keeping, but it does not need a stand-alone article. The stub on Tricorn Peak can be made a redirect to Miller Range#Tricorn Peak, which has exactly the same information. It is a simple mechanical task to expand an article on a mountain range, glacier etc. to include sections copying content from Geographic Names of the Antarctic on each of the features / tributaries. When one of the geostubs comes up for deletion, it can immediately be redirected to its section in the parent, avoiding lengthy and repetitive arguments over notablilty. Or of course it can be expanded like Painted Peak if there really is more to be said.
I hesitate to convert stubs to redirects en masse, but with many of the cirques, peaks etc. there really is very little to be said. Comments? Aymatth2 (talk) 15:29, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- The best thing is to merge, but also avoid short sections and the generic repetitive text, and write into written paragraphs I think. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:35, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- I agree that the text should be made a bit more readable, e.g.
- Tricorn Peak (82°59′S 156°48′E / 82.983°S 156.800°E) is a snow-covered peak, 2,320 metres (7,610 ft) high, on the ridge between Astro Glacier and Skua Glacier in the north part of the Miller Range. It was seen by the northern party of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) of 1961–62. It was given its name because of its resemblance to a three-cornered hat.
- But look at Miller Range on your phone. This is how almost all readers will see the information. I think the short individual sections work well. A table or bulleted list might not be as accessible. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:52, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- I agree that the text should be made a bit more readable, e.g.
