Hello, SafariScribe,

What's with all of the page moving with this archive talk page? There must have been 5 or 6 page moves here, most of which were probably unnecessary. It left a few broken redirects and orphaned talk pages that I had to clean up. Please think carefully before you move any page, whether article, draft or talk page so that multiple page moves will not be required. Make sure that the page title and namespace are correct before moving a page. It's in the chaos of these multiple page moves that sometimes the actual content can be accidentally deleted so please take more care with any future page moves you do. Thank you. Liz ^{Read! You mentioned in the comments that the sources in the article might be close to the subject, if you take a look at the sources used, they are almost 100% secondary sources from independent publications:

- One of the sources is Textbook used in high schools all over Israel to teach Arabic, it is taught to 60,000 kids each year as part of their curriculum and has been taught since 2018 covering around 400,000 students to date

- Another source is an article on MSN, a prominent and widely-read site

- A ton of additional sources are legitimate news organizations that have done profiles on this person, see: Mako, The Marker, The Jerusalem Post

So I invested a half hour in writing a wikipedia article that would have helped me to find it.

Respectfully, it appears that you declined my previously submitted article, the Draft:El Paso Chamber page, without notifying me or commenting on solutions to previous objections. Each of the objections were discussed extensively on the talk page and then addressed with additional citations from reliable sources, including the New York Times, other newspapers of record, and articles from an academic journal that were focused exclusively on the subject and their activities. There are nine citations from sources on the page, which concerns a 125-year-old organization of historic importance in the largest metropolitan area of a major region in the U.S. I've included historical photographs and multiple links to existing pages on associated persons, events, and related subjects. If you feel that these still remain insufficient, please kindly explain.

My concerns are primarily with the sourcing in the draft. I couldn't access the contents of the offline citations from Password, and to you, if these sources are accessible, they could help verify certain contents in your draft. If you have them, please send the link or email the content.

Aside from that, your draft has potential but has several flaws that need to be addressed. After thoroughly reading your discussion with Valeree, I decided to decline the draft for the same reasons as Theroadislong. I don't know what to do with this agenda source, and doesn't seem to contain the information about El Paso Chamber. Also the PDF source from The New York Times has nothing to offer that independently and significantly covered the company. Though historical importance is good but it doesn't matter. I am told that past copies of Password are available online to members of the El Paso County Historical Society, but they are behind the firewall and inaccessible to non-members. Printed copies are available at the University of El Paso Library, which is where I read them. WP policy expressly does not discriminate between offline and online sources according to WP:OFFLINE.

As for the Chamber's name, the article is titled according to its current name; but the change of name is addressed twice: in the very first line of the article (The El Paso Chamber ["the Chamber," formerly the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce] ), and then later where the name change is mentioned ("'The organization was rebranded as the 'El Paso Chamber' in 2018.[6])," including citation of the newspaper article announcing the name change.

Ok thank you @SafariScribe I am a writer and researcher as stated on my talk page I found AI generated images and stuffs disgusting. in as much other people believe it is an easy way to get things done I still find it disgusting reason be that. Question on article for creation

Dear SafariScribe, I'd like to ask why my article submission Draft:The Quarterly Journal of Finance has been declined?

I included within it two citations. They are: SCImago which is the standard journal ranking tool and the Midwest financial association. Both of these are independent of the journal itself. Also included in the infobox is the official journal webpage. In fact the SCImago Q2 ranking implies that the articles published by this journal received several thousand academic citations. I looked at other wiki articles (see: Category:Finance journals) for scientific journals and they all look the same.

Regarding sources 7 and 8, they are available online directly from the magazine, e.g this one [1] but the full text is under a paywall. Most of the really good references are actually under paywalls. What should I do to use these? Also, regarding source 6, a “featured post” is not a promotional post, is just a front cover post, the two things are different. @Thirdward544 (talk page watcher) Generally I would suggest better sources. Also los the boldface, and drop words that are puffery. Any article that passes scrutiny deals with things that are notable. Lose the word, lose any similar words.

Decide if you are writing about the man or the buildings.

For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact cited, that meet these tough criteria is likely to make this draft a clear acceptance (0.9 probability). While I do not disagree with the weakness of the references in that example, perhaps Wikipedia would be better served if you avoid doing repeats. I suspect that for creating editors, especially those new to Wikipedia, this feels unfair, and that they would be better served with a different reviewer for resubmits. @David notMD (I'm pinging you because I was asked to comment). I'm not in favour of reviewing drafts more than once, because I see it as my duty to sort out egregious errors at the first review. Subsequent submissions I may comment upon but rarely review unless it's an obvious and immediate acceptance.

@SafariScribe It can be difficult when you see partial work done. It's all too tempting to jump in again, and, perhaps, again. I did this when I started. Then I started to understand that too many reviews by the same person, while I meant well, could seem like bullying by the recipient. This is hard for us as reviewers when we see repeated misunderstandings, but it's harder for the submitting editor. Even when asked to re-review I tell the requestor that "Other eyes than mine will get you a better review. I am not too close to it to be of much more help".

It's like when we create articles ourselves. We have to learn to be the new article's father, and let it run free and graze its knees, not to mother it and try to wrap it in warm towels to save it from harm. I let my reviews graze their knees. I do try very hard to answer queries. Sometimes I run into trouble that way if I am overbearing.

I will say that my sympathies are for novice editors who submit drafts, and feel that it is unfair/miunderstood when Declined by the same reviewer, often for the same reason as the first time, i.e., inadequate references, when the concept of what are valid versus invalid references is beyond them. Reviewing is as tough as we make it, and carries a high burnout risk. If we approach burnout then we review poorly. When we start out, we review as well as we can. Hi, many thanks for reviewing this article. I don't understand the reason it was declined. You have mentioned that claims need to be backed up by reliable sources. I thought that is what I had already done as I have tried to cite well-established national newspapers for historical events; academic journals to verify that the author has written certain works or been appointed editor; university websites to verify an academic appointment; and UK legislation to verify that certain changes were made to UK child protection laws.

Please can you be more specific about which claims you feel are inadequately supported and/or which sources aren't adequately reliable.

Clearly it is not realistic to support every statement made in a BLP – for example articles don't usually provide sources to verify years of birth, and details of an individual's career history are often not backed up by citations – so it's tricky for me as a new author to understand exactly where supporting evidence is required and where it is not. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Numerous Colleges: UPenn, UConn, Yale, Williams College, Bryant University

In regards to qualifying for an article, she has won numerous awards for her work and is a leading voice for the Black community in environmentalism. I saw your note about just doing a Black Girl Environmentalist article, but respectfully, most of the articles are about Wawa and her story. She's the driving force behind BGE and most of the articles are about her story and the work she has been doing.

There are numerous other articles about similar climate activists that have been published on Wikipedia and Wawa seems to have received similar or more coverage and have similar or more qualifications for a Wikipedia article. Here are some that I have seen on Wikipedia: Maya Penn, Leah Thomas, Tori Tsui, Nalleli Cobo, Xiye Bastida.

Chris Stark draft

Hi @SafariScribe, my draft article on Chris Stark, the UK's new head of net zero was declined. Which is fine. Before I go and edit though, I'd like to be clear on what the issue was specifically. Grateful if you could give me a steer :-)

Leaving aside Wikipedia's notability and referencing policies for a second, I am assuming that his notability is not objectively in question. He has been named the new UK Labour government's Net Zero czar by the Energy Security Secretary, one of Ed Miliband's first (if not *the* first) appointments since he has come into office. Stark was the subject of an official announcement on GOV.UK. He is one of the UK's leading experts on climate change, and was previously the CEO of the UK government's Climate Change Committee – the UK's main authority on climate change – for 6 years.

If he is not notable, then we need to talk about at least 20% of Wikipedia, who have got past the notability test. For example, how is it different to the article on Tom Delay, who absolutely should have an article on Wikipedia, but whose referencing is very similar. It sometimes feels this rule is not consistently applied (or maybe hasn't been in the past)?

So, to come back to my question, is the issue that the sources were not credible? The Guardian is a tier 1 newspaper, GOV.UK is the government's website, Business Green and Renewable Energy Magazine are credible trade publications, and Carbon Trust and the Climate Change Committee are reputable organisations. I thought this would easily clear the WP:THREE test, but I can accept that:

> Business Green and Renewable Energy Magazine – though credible trade publications might not be well known outside the sector of energy and sustainability.

If that is the case, this is useful to know. So is it a case of one or two more Guardian-level references? Saying “you don’t remember” Boris FX being a credible source is not very fair if you are unfamiliar with how highly regarded this industry publication is, considering the contributors are renowned and world leading experts in the field of film editing. I'm not sure how highly their publications are regarded, but from my look, it's just a simple blog, so it's considered unreliable. Let us say that other citations in your draft, aside from the British Council (which is a directory), also don't seem reliable. Often, we don't need to cite an artist's discography if their songs already have a Wikipedia article. However, this is usually not the case for a producer. We need reliable sources that specifically identify them as the producer and provide details about their contributions to the music's production. Teramaze (Band) draft

Hi. You declined a draft https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Teramaze but you didn't say specifically what is lacking. Since this wasn't the first time the draft was declined, I've had previous discussions with editors and learned more about Wikipedia criteria, and provided the changes that were requested of me.

The omission of this article in Wikipedia is IMHO quite scandalous, I would first ask editors to convince themselves that this is an internationally renowned and appreciated band, with over a dozen solid albums published. It is not the greatest band in the world, but it is also not a border-line-notable band; I think it is well over that line. I think the problem might be that they are not very money-driven, and choose to do things modernly, avoiding record labels and dealing directly with their fans throught the Internet. Until Wikipedia modernizes its own criteria for appreciating this kind of band, it does create difficulties for editors. This is the era of Bandcamp, Youtube channels and Spotify... and Wikipedia is still looking for "old school" signs of notability.

BUT this band has also published with old-school labels, and has been dealt with in the specialized press (internationally), as my sources demonstrate. It has headlined festvals on the opposite side of the globe where they are from. So we really should be able to get this article "out the door", with the current wikipedia standards.

Please tell me specifically why you declined, what you think is missing that would make this acceptable. If some statements are not sufficiently sourced I could just remove them, I would favor getting the article published first, then getting it improved. Other than that, I've had the notability discussions with previous editors that had declined it, and I feel that I have provided what was asked.

You can see that albums Anhedonia and Esoteric Symbolism are published on Nightmare Records which fits the description of "important indie label" whose roster (https://www.discogs.com/label/29981-Nightmare-Records-2) includes independently notable artists such as Balance of Power, Pyramaze, Prototype, Myrath, Anubis Gate. Their respective Wikipedia pages show charted albums etc.

Similar cases could be made for some of the other labels.

That should be enough, but I believe we can also grant that

1. Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.

... the most prominent would be the Heavy Magazine article I cited, a print magazine. Many others in online sources that are reputable in the Prog Rock niche.

Finally there are articles commenting on headlining (headlining!) international festivals.

4. Has received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country.

The part about "tours" I don't think is currently documented well-enough in the sources, but it could probably be done. However, this isn't critical to notability right now because the other elements suffice.

Please spend a couple of minutes Googling the band and take a look at concert images on Youtube, to convince yourself that this is not "my cousin's garage band". After that, if you still feel something is missing to fit Wikipedia criteria, please tell me helpfully in specific form, you could add this page, or that link, and that would suffice, and you would approve it. It's not productive to keep waiting months and going through successive editors that tell me to just add something and then after I add it, it isn't enough...

@Callmepgr, how have they been published in non trivial reliable sources? Purely, it lacks WP:SIGCOV and may end up as a redirect if possible in AFD. @SafariScribe apologies if I might be missing something, I am still learning my way around Wikipedia after all these years. But if the published albums are enough to establish WP:BAND, is WP:SIGCOV (a more generic standard) still needed?

Regarding the significant coverage, there are several sources in the article which are full articles whose main subject is this band, like an album review or a concert review. I mentioned the HEAVY magazine one, because it is a bit more substantial than some of the others, since it's a large and established Australian print magazine. Does WP:SIGCOV require more than one?

I'm considering these, would any of them "tip the scales" to convince you?

There do seem to be several requests for assistance on this page from authors whose articles have been declined for 'lack of reliable sources' who are struggling to understand what is wrong with the sources they have already cited. If the aim is to provide actionable feedback in order to allow a draft to be improved, then it would be helpful if authors could receive more pointers. It seems ironic if a finding of 'lack of reliable sources' is itself not substantiated.

I appreciate that the more details a reviewer provides the longer it takes, and that reviewers have to balance the needs of individual authors with the wish to serve many authors by getting through many drafts. Nevertheless I think if a little more information were provided first time around, it would ultimately save time because authors wouldn't need to come back and request clarification. Thank you @Timtrent and @Klighed for acknowledging the need for feedback – it can indeed be frustrating to have a draft rejected without a good explanation, especially when you think you have sourced it appropriately. And it can discourage members from submitting any further new articles in the future, which would be a shame. I'm sure that isn't the intention.

My question on the draft I submitted is still listed above. I feel I'm still (relatively) new here and I like to think I have approached Wikipedia editing in a polite and humble way. (And if my question above was phrased in an impolite way, I apologise). Everyone can't be an expert on everything! The point is it's hard to improve without specific feedback. (The generic guidance on the platform will only get you so far, I feel I'm at a point where I just need to try things – and sometimes fail, but understanding what a draft needs in order to be approved is key to this learning process. My draft was rejected very quickly and I asked (User talk:SafariScribe#Request on 09:46:21, 26 July 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Klighed) feedback and haven't received any yet. I did get some useful pointers in the help chat, though to be honest I didn't understand all of them because in some cases what I was told clearly doesn't match the usual custom and practice for BLPs, which I can observe simply by browsing BLPs. I hold no prejudice neither for not responding to your question about "why I declined your draft," nor for tagging others to weigh in on the decision. It also seems that you didn’t read the notice on my talk page. Per WP:COMMONSENSE, if someone doesn’t respond to your message, it’s better to ping them again in the same section, rather than in a different one, under the pretext of justifying the reviewer. @SafariScribe, I'm not sure I understand your last message, which seems to be about procedure rather than the substance of my question.

Firstly, I'm not aware of having received a clear explanation of why the draft was declined. I noted the comment "since this is a BLP certain claims should be verified by a reliable source" and although I understand it in principle, I have a number of queries about how to apply it in practice: that is, while I did receive an explanation of sorts, I didn't find it clear. I created a section on this page in order to explain my questions in detail and request specific guidance. Instead of responding to my query, you archived it without comment. Unfortunately this doesn't enhance my understanding of how to improve the draft.

Secondly I'm not aware of having tagged anyone else. Or are you saying that you tagged other people but that you showed no prejudice in doing so?

Thirdly, I'm not sure what notice you are referring to when you say it seems that I didn't read your notice, but if it is the one at the top of this page saying that you are stressed and may be slow in responding to queries, yes I did read that. That is precisely why, instead of repeatedly pestering you with the same query (which I think is what you mean by pinging someone again in the same section??), I broadened out the enquiry to get help from other willing volunteers. I noted that you were very swift to review and decline the draft and I hoped that if you weren't available to follow up, others may be able to do so without the need to disturb you, so that I could get on with improving the draft. The comment declining my draft provided a direct link to your talk page and also said that if I had further questions I should ask others for advice, providing links to the Afc helpdesk and live chat. If I understand you correctly, your criticism is that in addition to raising my query in a separate section of your talk page, I also contributed to this section ("You are crunching through the drafts, which is great"), hoping the OP and others might find my perspective helpful. If that is indeed your criticism, and if replying to another section as well as creating my own section somehow breaches protocol or common sense, I can only apologise.

The diff that you reference appears to show that you added a full stop and deleted another. I think this is to do with Wikipedia's house style on citations. As far as I can tell from Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Punctuation and footnotes, the punctuation should have appeared before the references rather than after. Thank you for drawing attention to this stylistic issue. I have now edited the article, placing the punctuation in what I hope is the correct place with respect to the reference tags.
