Quick thing about moving pages

[edit]

Hi Molly,

Just as a quick note, you can move pages by going to the "tools" bar on the right side of the page, and then clicking the "move" button. This will preserve the page history, which is necessary to keep proper attribution to everyone who participated in making the page. Copy-paste moves require an admin to manually merge the history of the two pages, so it's best-practice to avoid copy-paste moves.

Cheers

Important lighting talk slides update

[edit]

Howdy Mollystarkdean, just wanted to let you know that due to some venue tech limitations, we've added new requirements for slides. For convenience, they are: IF you have slides, please either upload them as PDFs to Wikimedia Commons and post a link here, bring them in on USB drives as PDFs, or, if you're using Google Slides or similar software, post a link to them here. Fortunately, the deadline is when you go on stage for your talk. Doing so will avoid tech surprises on the day of. Due to venue tech limitations, we cannot guarantee being able to show your visual aids otherwise. The lightning talk section, where the slides should be linked, is here; Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Wikipedia Day 2024#Lightning talks. Thank you, and see you Sunday! Wikiproject categories

[edit]

Hi there, and thanks for your hard work and contributions. Just so you know, to add an article to a category related to Wikiproject, you would put the WP banner {{WikiProject Women Do News|class=|importance=}} on the article's talk page and that would automatically add it to the relevant category. For example, Talk:Adrienne LaFrance already has the Women Do News Wikiproject banner, and you can see it's been added to Category:WikiProject Women Do News articles. ... discospinster talk 01:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata WikiProject

[edit]

Hello Molly, I came across your Lightning talk at the Wikidata Day for Women Do News, during my editing of the weekly Wikidata newsletter. I looked for but couldn't find a Wikidata WikiProject for Women Do News, but I would like to put it in the Wikidata community spotlight. What do you think about creating a Wikidata:WikiProject/Women Do News to support creation and enrichment of Wikidata items for associated Wikipedia articles on women journalists? I think it could be helpful as there are many Wikidata-experts who don't edit or contribute to Wikipedia so much, and vice-versa. Kind regards,-Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 11:58, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Danny Benjafield (WMDE) This is a great idea! I brought it up with the WDN board and they agree. Mollystarkdean (talk) 09:39, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would love to create a Wikidata project for WDN. Is it a process different from making the Wikiproject?

@Mollystarkdean Hi Molly! This youtube video (Developing a Wikidata WikiProject) is a good introduction. A stark difference would be the data model, which can be thought of as the base template of information each item your project wants to create or expand should or aims to contain. It might be Properties such as:
  • Sex/Gender
  • Birthplace
  • Birthdate
  • Country of Citizenship
  • Occupation
  • Image
  • Field of work
  • Awards received
  • has written for
  • employer
  • languages spoken, written or signed
  • educated at
  • Place of death
  • Date of death
  • Identifiers to external sites

This is just an idea based on existing Wikidata items of famous female journalists, you may wish to include other properties. An example of a female-focused Wikiproject Data Model can be seen here: WikiProject Aotearoa Asian Artists. If you are unsure about starting a new WikiProject or perhaps there is an existing WikiProject addressing gender bias on Wikidata/Wikipedia (such as WikiProject Women or Women in Red), perhaps WDN could join and fork off from these.

There is also the Project chat where you can ask any questions and get answers from the community. I hope some of this information is helpful! -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 15:41, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Women Do News

[edit]

Women Do News is a project, not an article category. Discospinster explained to you above (#Wikiproject categories) how to tag an article's talk page to the project. I've removed the incorrect categories that you've added to the articles. Schazjmd (talk) 21:38, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! You stopped me from doing this for other articles. Mollystarkdean (talk) 21:44, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yumi Wilson moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Yumi Wilson, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Speedy deletion nomination of Gnarls Narwhal

[edit]

Hello, Mollystarkdean

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gnarls Narwhal for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
