Note on the Requested move at Hiroshi Miyamura

I am new to the Requested Move (RM) process. I volunteer mostly on Commons.

Why was I was not notified, nor pinged about the new RM by the original proposer? Apparently, neither was Myasuda. Also, my discussion located immediately above this RM was not linked into this requested move, nor my point of view even mentioned.

I was notified and invited to comment by the proposer for the earlier discussion on my talk page, here: Talk:Hiroshi H. Miyamura#Middle Initial, but not for the subsequent WP:RM discussion here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Talk:Hiroshi_Miyamura&action=edit&section=3

The outcome may not have changed, however, since I had participated in Good Faith in the previous discussion by bringing research facts forward as requested by the OP. Myasuda and I should have been extended the courtesy as well as due process to have been invited to participate in the Requested Move discussion. Thank you, --Ooligan (talk) 01:56, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

@Ooligan: it is unfortunate that you feel this way. This is a question that should be directed to the original proposer, if you wish to hear their motivation or lack of. There're no bots or scripts that I am aware of that (semi-)automated the issuing of notifications to individual editors. While on my end, as notifications to individual editors is not required by the WP:RM process, I would notify WikiProjects for further inputs if necessary to achieve a clearer consensus. If it is of any consolation, when I do my closings, I typically scroll up on my browser to check on the earlier discussions as it is not uncommon that a new RM discussion is a result of a prior discussion. Myasuda's and your inputs in the previous discussion were considered as well. – robertsky (talk) 03:07, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from MooreBabo (10:09, 15 November 2023)

How do I edit articles and after edit what is my gain? --MooreBabo (talk) 10:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

@MooreBabo: Go to any of the articles, there should be a blue 'Edit' button which will bring you to the editing interface. You can make your changes and then you can click on the 'Save' button to publish the changes. What you gain from this is intrinsic and varies from person to person. Here are 10 simple rules for editing Wikipedia. – robertsky (talk) 19:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Kapembwa william (18:25, 15 November 2023)

How can I write update someone’s biography on Wikipedia? --Kapembwa william (talk) 18:25, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

@Kapembwa william: For existing biographies, you can simply editing the content itself. For new biographies, it is best that you start creating it in either your own sandbox or in the draft space. There are guidelines to follow: Make sure that subject you are writing a new article for is notable according to Wikipedia's notability guidelines (more often than not, the guidelines here are not what a fresh editor thinks they would be), and any potentially contentious information should be referenced with reliable and independent sources. – robertsky (talk) 19:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Orah71 (20:29, 18 November 2023)

Boulevard de Strasbourg

Hi,

I'm not very experienced in these matters, but wouldn't it make more sense to leave "Boulevard de Strasbourg, Paris" at "Boulevard de Strasbourg" as the primary topic, and have the disambiguation page at "Boulevard de Strasbourg (disambiguation)"? Compare "Place de la République", for example.

Best wishes, Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 10:22, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

@Jean-de-Nivelle Bonjour! It was a technical request requested by an IP editor, of which can be challenged, and reverted. I am of no opinion as to which subject goes to which title in this case. Let me know if you consider this as a challenge to the technical request, and I will do the necessary reversion. – robertsky (talk) 10:29, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Question on how i can upload free image for living person

Hi, Robert, I hope you are doing well... i need your guidance with regards to uploading a free image that I would like to use in the main article at Wikipedia. so, i do know how to upload images under fair use under Wikipedia wizard. and free images under Wikipedia commons, but i am little confused because some of my images for living person articles are getting deleted. What is the proper systematic way of uploading free images files for living person and from where can i get it approved from the VRT team? can you please give me a link and i would be glad if you can explain me step by step on how i can upload free images for living person. Syed Sadique Hussain (talk) 12:28, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

@Syed Sadique Hussain: Before uploading to Commons, make sure you have obtain consent from the copyright owner of the photograph. Do note that the copyright owner may differ according to local laws, and may not be the subject themselves, but the photographer. You will have to consult the relevant laws by yourself on this. After uploading to Commons, add {{subst:PP}} to under the License section and immediately email to VRT with evidence that you have obtained consent from the copyright holders to release the images under a free license. A VRT volunteer will take it from there. See c:Commons:Volunteer Response Team which explains clearly what to do. – robertsky (talk) 19:02, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
@Robertsky thanks for the explaining me the process. I will follow this from now on! Syed Sadique Hussain (talk) 16:04, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Felix Hair Color

Hi, I saw your comment on the draft page I created, Felix (Korean Musician) regarding Felix's hair color. I thoroughly looked through pictures from concerts and music videos to see his hair color. However, to make it more simple I only cited the music video in which his hair color was the color stated. If you think I should cite even more or have any suggestions, please tell me. Thanks! Redstar0005 talk to me! — Preceding undated comment added 23:19, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

@Redstar0005 I think it should be removed. Why is the hair colors important in one's life? – robertsky (talk) 03:31, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
@Robertsky I think it is very important because it is his thing. All of the members in his group change their hair frequently but him more than most. As a fan of his myself, I know how excited fans get when he has a new hair color (just search it and you will see) and I think fans will find it helpful. Hello. I am writing to you as the coordinator of the November 2023 Backlog Drive.

Several AfC reviewers and I participated in the project, but realized that we needed to be added to the page too late. I am talking about last three names here at the moment (after Nizil Shah) and I do not insist, but if we can be added to the Leaderboard stats, too, it would be great. Geographic and city names

Firstly, thank you for moving Jackfish Lake, Saskatchewan. You had said, "I concur with Amakuru. Maybe the disambiguation practice of such Canadian articles should be looked into. At the first glance, both title variations are not distinguishable of each other." To help out, here's a link to the Canadian MoS: WP:CANPLACE. But, I think you'll find Canada isn't the only place that uses the Anytown, Region format—it's wikipedia-wide. As for lake and river naming conventions, Anylake (Region) is a wiki-wide naming format. Wikipedia:WikiProject Lakes#Naming, Wikipedia:WikiProject Rivers#Naming, Wikipedia:WikiProject Mountains#Naming conventions. Masterhatch (talk) 16:09, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

@Masterhatch, not a big issue about making the move as it is a current practice. I have gone through the links you have given here (thanks for the links, they are informative). What I am seeing here is consistencies within the individual topics, which is good, but when it comes to pairing of geographical feature and place, there is a lack of clarity when comes to disambiguation between. I come from a place too small for such disambiguation to occur commonly. The closest I can think of is Bukit Timah vs. Bukit Timah Hill and the rest listed at Bukit Timah (disambiguation). So looking at Jackfish Lake, Saskatchewan and Jackfish Lake (Saskatchewan) without any context invoked an astonished reaction within me.
I will probably take this up onto an appropriate discussion venue, i.e. WP:VPR or a mass move discussion after doing further research. It will not be so soon. I would like to check if this was raised before, and how widespread is this. Who knows, maybe it is just a handful of articles affected (relatively comparing with the total number of places and geographical articles we have on here). – robertsky (talk) 17:48, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Chris France Musuc (14:52, 7 December 2023)

Hello, I want to create a page about my career. How do I go about that? --Chris France Musuc (talk) 14:52, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Chris France Musuc, writing about yourself or your career is generally not advisable on Wikipedia. If your career has some coverage in news or other reliable secondary sources, someone who knows your work may come along and write about you.
However if you are not dissuaded yet, I strongly suggest that you peruse WP:Your First Article and start off from there. Do construct the article in the draft space first, and also declare your conflict of interest as well. Lastly, if you are block due to suspicions of impersonating... yourself, follow the directions laid out at WP:REALNAME to have yourself verified by a group of volunteer editors. – robertsky (talk) 15:19, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Battle/Siege of Gaza City

Hi, First of all, I did previously mention that the Siege of Gaza City article should be moved to be called a battle on its talk page. Secondly, is it not self-evident that the page should be titled "battle", rather than a siege, as there is significant and widespread fighting within the city? As I mentioned previously in the talk page, I don't think it makes sense to list the battle as a "siege" when the fighting is so extremely widespread within the city, and Israeli forces have already captured a large amount of the city. President Loki (talk) 06:16, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

@President Loki, @WeatherWriter was the one who contested the move, therefore it has been moved back. What you have presented here is your views and I don't see a consensus for a move to be made. Please open a requested move discussion on the talk page to seek a consensus among the community. – robertsky (talk) 06:56, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
(edit conflict)President Loki, as I am the one who requested the rename be done, I can answer your questions here. First of all, since the article is a contentious topics, you need to gather a consensus to rename the article. While you did bring it up on the talk page, no one agreed or in fact disagreed. You didn't gain any consensus. Also, a small piece of advice, you might want to read-over WP:CTOP, since you gained access to even begin to edit/move that page just a few minutes before you actually moved the page. Hope that helps! The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 07:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
@WeatherWriter Hi,
I once again brought up the topic on the talk page in an attempt to gain consensus. I would appreciate it if you can reply there and give your two cents. Thanks. President Loki (talk) 07:14, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
@President Loki, I have gone through your contribution history and Your recent edit pattern (inserting wikilinks on common terms/words) is concerning and may be seen as WP:GAMING. Do familarise yourself further on WP:CONSENSUS. Notwithstanding, it seems that you have not participated in any move discussions. Do peruse WP:RM on this. I have formatted your move request accordingly to WP:RSPM so that interested editors and readers will be notified via requested move banner(s) and RM listing pages. – robertsky (talk) 07:24, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
Hey, regarding your issue with potential gaming, I do not believe that to be the case. The edits that I have performed lately were to add links to a large amount of mammal genera. I noticed that many genera linked to genus at the beginning of the articles (mostly the larger, more commonly edited pages in the category), but many did not, so I went through numerous pages within the category and included links where they were absent (something I did not even fully complete due to the large amount of pages within the category). I don't believe that to be gaming, as my edits were in fact constructive, adding important links to the beginning of numerous articles within the category.
Regarding the article, I apologize for moving it without a consensus being reached beforehand, and I will strive to follow Wikipedia's guidelines on the matter and on all matters in the future. Thanks, President Loki (talk) 07:59, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Pesky Citizen on Jerry Dyer (06:17, 17 December 2023)

If I want to add a quote to a Politicians page... And I have the Name of the Newspaper. The Event, Location but didn't get the exact date of the publication in my screenshot just the 27th annual... Can I add it?

But this is unrelated & verifiable... and needs to be Public. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-03-16/fresno-swindled-out-of-600000-in-wire-fraud-case

@Pesky Citizen aside from the content that you wish to insert into the article, it is ideal that you have the date and headline of the article in addition publication name for others to verify the information. if the news article was published in the last five years and if you have the headlines, you can try searching online for the news. – robertsky (talk) 12:03, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Many thanks

Many thanks for returning those Years & Years articles whence they came - even if Isanari was to attempt to revert all those page moves, I would not think that would be possible as only a handful of users (including you) have the page mover rights applied to their accounts. I have not seen any contributions made by that user today. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:44, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

@Iggy the Swan no problem. I probably should have added one more edit to each redirect created to pseudo-lock the pages from being moved again without the help of pagemovers or admins. Let's see how the editor follows up on this given that Liz had left a message on their talk page as well on these page moves. – robertsky (talk) 02:39, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Just a note that I've redirected the article you approved today: Scream: Resurrection.

Per MOS:TVSPLIT, this does not warrant its own article and there is no consensus to split... series was short and has concluded, so is handled sufficiently by List of Scream episodes and Scream (TV series). There's an overeager editor or two who seem to feel they can just keep resubmitting to AfC to skirt the need for consensus (see Draft:Scream (season 1) for an example). —Joeyconnick (talk) 02:30, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

@Joeyconnick I was following up on a technical RM request made by @BuySomeApples, Special:Permalink/1190811932, and ended up using the AfC script to complete required moves. Thanks for following up on this. Do you want to revert the page moves instead or just keep it as it is? – robertsky (talk) 02:36, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
Oh I'm sorry... didn't realize it wasn't you doing the approval of the AfC. Uhm... maybe leave as is? I've never actually run into this situation, where someone is running to AfC multiple times after they've been informed they need to reconsider a split; there doesn't seem to any way to comment "hey maybe this article shouldn't be created" during the AfC process. —Joeyconnick (talk) 02:40, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
@Joeyconnick no worries. I think let's just keep it this way. The current edit history of the now redirect it more explicit on getting consensus on the primary talk page. – robertsky (talk) 03:12, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Regulyz on Markkula Center for Applied Ethics (19:31, 21 December 2023)

Hi Robertsky! I'm a frequent user of Wiki, but a newcomer for editing. The system has offered for me some learning activities – that is great! I’ve started to review and improve some pages, but most of the offered pages seems to me quite fine. The suggestions are usually like these: This article relies excessively on references to primary sources. (July 2017) This article needs additional citations for verification. (July 2017) This article contains content that is written like an advertisement. (July 2017)

Please help me, how to improve such pages (like : https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Markkula_Center_for_Applied_Ethics ) For me no need for improvement … To honest I started to learn editing to create quite a similar page of a small society, and I do not plan to create a more sophisticated page.

best regards Zoltán --Regulyz (talk) 19:31, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

@Regulyz, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia has 5 pillars on which it stands. A part of these pillars spells out that articles should be based on third party, reliable and independent sources, written from a neutral point of view. Much of these pillars and guidelines are an evolving organism, based on the collective thoughts of the editors here on Wikipedia. Markkula Center for Applied Ethics was probably written when the these guidelines were not written yet, and is surviving here largely because the community adopts a grandfather approach to most guidelines changes, i.e. if the article was already written, it would be left untouched until someone comes along to update the article to the current standards.
Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, as it is, does not fit the baseline norms what we expect of an article on Wikipedia. Please do not use it as an example for a new article. The new article written in a similar manner will most likely either be moved to the Draft space for incubation or outright deleted for being too promotional.
To improve such page, we will have to gather third-party, reliable, independent sources first. Next we start afresh and write a new copy that has the gathered sources are a basis for information. – robertsky (talk) 13:36, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Robertsky! Many thanks for your answer. Of course I have studied 5 pillars and more or less understood it - hopefully ;-) On the other hand I do not want to solve the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics problem, but I thought that my problem is similar to it. So let's se my problem: I've got the task from Sister Élisabeth Michaëly, the Superior General of Sisters of Ste Chrétienne, to update available articles regarding to the Congregation on the Wikipedia. I think she is the only source of truth to tell who they are. Of course I understand, that to introduce a society and advertise them is quite different - but in this cas it does not depend on the source, but on the style of teh article. Of course some 3-rd party references can be collected, like https://www.viereligieuse.fr/je-veux-que-tu-vives-une-nouvelle-orientation-pour-les-soeurs-de-sainte-chretienne/ or perhaps some links from the Vatican, but these sources will not be more reliable than the superior general... so this is my case, and I'm looking forward to find the best way to update the current Wikipedia content: Sisters of the Holy Childhood of Jesus and Mary Many thanks in advance! Regulyz Regulyz (talk) 21:35, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
@Regulyz Happy new year to you. Great that you have read up on the pillars. Do note on the policies surrounding WP:PRIMARY SOURCES. Happy editing! – robertsky (talk) 03:01, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Lisamdublin (17:07, 1 January 2024)

Hi Robert, my client wants to change her picture on wikipedia. What is the best way to do this? --Lisamdublin (talk) 17:07, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

@Lisamdublin:
  1. While you are editing on English Wikipedia, do take note of conflict of interest policy, especially on paid editing and disclosing one's COI.
  2. As for the new image, if she holds the copyright to the image she intends to change to, it is best to have it uploaded to Commons Wikimedia, our sister project for hosting copyright-free images. In doing so, you will have to declare that the photo is to be released to an appropriate Creative Commons license. To ensure that the photo will not be deleted, you can confirm permission by using the email template to send it via VRT. It is best that after the upload to Commons is done and verified, you then switch the photo in the article. Note that if the image is found to be unacceptable for the article, the edit may be reverted. It may be better to add {{edit COI}} in a new thread/topic on the article's talk page to alert passing editors on the pending change you would like to make.
  3. Type of photo for BLPs (assuming is it a biography article): clear portrait shot of the face is sufficient. See also WP:BLPIMAGE.
– robertsky (talk) 20:08, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
@Lisamdublin I see that you have uploaded an image to commons. Do follow up with sending the email template to VRT. Also I suggest uploading a higher resolution image for Gale Rigobert. – robertsky (talk) 20:23, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

@Aviram7 Looks like it has been reviewed. With the current backlog drive ongoing, many of the pending articles are been worked on at a faster rate. – robertsky (talk) 16:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Regarding your close of this, I was wondering if you were able to identify a consensus for any of the sub-options, in order to avoid wasting that extensive discussion and simplify subsequent discussions?

In particular, I'm seeing a consensus to continue using "Israel-Hamas war" (although no consensus on whether or how to disambiguate it) given the level of support and that the argument’s for that title are at least as strong as the argument’s against it,

35 editors only supported options of that form, and four supported it alongside other forms. In comparison, just 16 supported a form that didn’t include "Israel-Hamas war" and that included editors voting for titles that are impossible to find support in policy for, such as "Gaza genocide".

That gives us a support level of somewhere between 64% and 71% support; more than sufficient to establish a consensus, in my view, absent sufficiently strong arguments that I don’t think exist here. BilledMammal (talk) 14:04, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

On Sockstrike

I believe the sock-strikes aren't correct. This is after just looking through the ip's accused of being socks. Can you explain in details? 88.239.12.37 (talk) 07:19, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

The topic starter, User:Wiki.arfazhxss and the IP address were CU blocked after an investigation. See: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Arfaz_Hossain/Archive#10_December_2023. While CU results aren't supposed to tie IP address to accounts, the blockng admin may take into account other evidences, such as behavioural evidence to to block IP addresses as sock. Since the blocking admin as indicated in the block log is a SPI clerk, I defer to their judgement. Even though the IP address has since been automatically unblocked, as far as I am concerned, the comments made before the investigations are considered as made by a sock. Do query the blocking admin if you think that the IP was not used by a sock master. – robertsky (talk) 07:34, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
I can see the blocking admin to be Vanjagenije who blocked the IP 64.229.49.146. The ground for the block was that it was a suspected sock of the user Arfaz Hossain after a report by A.Musketeer (See [1]). Are you referring to this block, or the block of IP 45.248.151.129? Or 119.30.41.219? Because apparantly all of them are suspected socks and blocked currently, and all of them have reverted edits and sockstrikes. 88.239.12.37 (talk) 07:43, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
@Vanjagenije your advice on this? – robertsky (talk) 07:44, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Also want to add that Vanjagenije blocked 64.229.49.146 after user A.Musketeer pinged Vanjagenije on 9th January after the IP started contributing to the talk page of Bangladesh Genocide (See [2]). The IP was first blocked on being a suspected sockpuppeteer of the user Wiki.arfazhxss based on a report filed by (again) A.Musketeer who have been the only one editing the page Bangladesh genocide. 88.239.17.21 (talk) 08:39, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
User Wiki.arfazhxss is currently blocked for filing an SP under another username Auvankar. The IP 64.229.49.146 is a suspected sock of the user, but CheckUser confirmed they were not socks (see [1]). The rest of the sockstriked IP's were clearly not the same user, based on their contributions. 88.239.12.37 (talk) 07:34, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
I also note that the block log of the IP has additional entries on 9 Jan since I last cleaned up the talk page on 8 Jan, which logs affirmed that the IP address was at least used for block evasion by the sock master. – robertsky (talk) 07:42, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
That's what I am saying- they are suspected socks who were blocked only on grounds of reverting edits and also for contributing to the talk pages of Bangladesh Genocide and Rape during the Bangladesh Liberation War- not for Sock-puppetry as it's been 'sock-striked'. The IP of 64.229.49.146 that have been blocked since the user Wiki.arfazhxss was blocked on 15th December was made on grounds of Block Evasion and Suspected Sock-puppetry but it was not a CheckUser block (I see [[User:Ivanvector|Ivanvector] who blocked Arfaz Hossain for their legitimate sock-puppetry and reverting edits but not 64.229.49.146, nor 45.248.151.129 or 119.30.41.219) but I can see their contributions to the talk pages have been sock-striked- all on suspected sock-puppetry.
IP 45.248.151.129 was blocked for suspected block-evasion by IP 119.30.41.219), and 64.229.49.146 for suspected block-evasion by Arfaz Hossain. The least you can do is strike them as Block Evasion Strike. 88.239.17.21 (talk) 08:12, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Dear IP user, first of all, "block-evasion" and "sockpuppetry" are not different things. "Block evasion" is a sub-type of sockpuppetry, when sockpuppet accounts (or IPs) are being used by a person to evade the blocked placed on that person. So, every block evasion is sockpuppetry per se. Second, you are not correct when you say that CheckUser confirmed they were not socks. Checkuers never confirmed anything. Ivanvector wrote No comment on the IP address (see [40]). That is the only thing Ivanvector could say because Checkuser is not allowed to reveal IP socking due to privacy. IP sockpuppetry can only be dealt with by examining behavior, Checkuser tool is not allowed to be used. After examining the behavior of IP user, I concluded that it is probably the same person that operates Arfaz Hossain account, and I blocked then for block evasion/sockpuppetry. Vanjagenije (talk) 10:17, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
By behaviour, did you mean they were both working on the same POV? Because that's the only behavioural similarities I could find after hours of reading through the discussions in Talk:Bangladesh Genocide. You could argue similarities in the activities of IP 45.248.151.129 and IP 119.30.41.219 since both reverted edits, but I don't think you can for the case between 64.229.49.146 and Wiki.arfazhxss. Have you read through the unblock request of Wiki.arfazhxss? Or at least checked the timeline of the edits made by the suspected sock-puppeteer (Arfaz) and the [[User:64.229.49.146|64.229.49.146]? I noticed they have edits between 49 seconds in range- how can two socks contribute at around the same time from two different time-zones? (I am assuming so since CU didn't show them to have similar/narrow IPs).
I disagree with your "CU never confirmed anything"-assessment because it seems very clear to me that if 64.229.49.146 and Wiki.arfazhxss were in fact the same socks, they would at-least have near-range IPs or similarities in their wordings, writings and activities (they clearly don't).
So, can you please elaborate on this-

After examining the behavior of IP user, I concluded that it is probably the same person that operates Arfaz Hossain account, and I blocked then for block evasion/sockpuppetry

88.239.17.21 (talk) 10:55, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
I cannot elaborate, because that would mean repeating what I already wrote. Vanjagenije (talk) 11:00, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Your close at Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war

Hi Robertsky, congratulations on your courage in closing the discussion on Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war. I admit I find your change of mind surprising. As I see it, there was an evident lack of editors' consensus – no name variant has secured the support of even a simple majority of participating editors, not even mentioning consensus. That's why a new discussion was started below where options were revisited and are being further worked on. There was no need to formally close the preceding section – its lack of consensus necessitated the creation of new discussion.

So, you got it right at start IMO! I don't know why you then got swayed by an editor who, on top of everything, has been actively pushing the Israeli narrative in that discussion (i.e., one that Israel only attacks militant groups in Gaza) – a narrative not supported by the majority of participating editors (as I counted, option B received only around 35% of !votes).

I wonder whether you'd be willing to reconsider and either reopen the section or leave as you saw it originally, as no consensus which then required further discussion. Cheers, — kashmīrī TALK 05:57, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

@Kashmiri, my re-close was after relooking at the discussion again, not just looking at his statements here on my talk page. No doubt BilledMammal has an agenda, so do everyone else. I don't have my notes at the moment as they are on another computer, and this is coming from my recollection. When I relooked at the discussion, I first grouped those who supported to remain at I-H v. I-G regardless of the placement of the year as the discussion was mainly between these two. The supporting argument was between common name and npov, of which I found common name a more substantiative argument, which is what I-H was supported on. Looking at the discussion it was ~3:2 in favour of I-H, regardless of variations. Now considering the variations among I-H, there was no consensus as to call this war "I-H war" as the common name, and it was roughly 2:3 I-H vs I-H with year placement. There are also some without a preference between either with or without the year placement.
The current discussion can continue regardless of my re-close, it has gone on for too long to halt it now. – robertsky (talk) 06:29, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
OK, thanks for clarifying. — kashmīrī TALK 08:23, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
I would prefer that the close be undone altogether and leave it for another to close instead, if that's OK with you. Selfstudier (talk) 12:24, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
I think I will leave the close as it is. – robertsky (talk) 12:28, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
R u sure? After all, you apparently got it completely wrong the first time and then responded to prodding from an editor with an obvious interest in the outcome, I really would prefer a different closer tbh. Selfstudier (talk) 12:32, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
One told me that I was right at the first time, and another told me that I was wrong. Which is which? I can't please everyone. Regardless who prodded me, if it was you, kashmiri or BilledMammal as well, I would have reclosed the same way upon reevaluation, one which I took way more time and care than I usually do. – robertsky (talk) 12:42, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
I am not going to press the matter any further and I have also refrained from saying which close is "right". This is a contentious subject and the amount of time spent on a reevaluation should have been spent on the first close, should it not? Please do not close discussions in the topic area without proper consideration, thank you. Selfstudier (talk) 12:46, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate the feedback and will take it into consideration for my future closes. – robertsky (talk) 12:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Re the discussion continuing, , I trust you mean it will continue on the basis of your closing, which found "...there is a consensus to use 'Israel–Hamas war' as the base title. This includes variations such as 'Israel–Hamas war', '2023 Israel–Hamas war', 'Israel–Hamas war (2023–present)', etc. What isn't clear is whether to put the year(s) (as a prefix or in parenthesis) and in what form. If discussions go back to square one because one "side" or another objects, they will go on endlessly. A s you may have noticed, that is the tendency in I/P articles. Request protection for TV9 (Malaysian TV network)

Can you extended protection for TV9 (Malaysian TV network) as it is still vandalized by anonymous IP user who keeps making unsconstructive and disruptive edits, especially changing year of establishment. You can see the revision history of the article, which I have seen vandalism by the IP user. I suspect that these are the Indonesian IP user, not a Malaysian IP user. Thank you in advance. 180.73.176.125 (talk) 02:14, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. – robertsky (talk) 08:47, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sanyogita3090 (06:56, 15 January 2024)

Hi, hope you're doing well. Can you please advise me about how to start writing a new article here? It says I need to be an auto-confirmed user to do that and I have already done all the required things. Thanks --Sanyogita3090 (talk) 06:56, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

I'm not robertsky, but I looked up your usergroups and according to Wikipedia you are auto confirmed. However, I would recommend using articles for creation to create your first article.
I don't know what subject you are looking to cover, but to create an article that meets Wikipedia's standards, you have to show that the subject meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. In other words, you must show that the subject is notable by citing multiple reliable sources and independent sources that give non-trivial coverage of the subject. There are other tips I could give you for writing good articles, but what I've mentioned is the MOST important part of creating a good article. Good luck on your journey! ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 23:31, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

how to change page topic in sandbox --Karan29Singh (talk) 06:43, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

You may have missed a remark in the RM you just closed at Talk:3"-deamino-3"-oxonicotianamine reductase. The remark was "There are two issues here. One is two singlecharacters (could just as well be straight apostrophe) vs a double-character (here a straight quote-mark). I support that." There was support for changing that aspect. Can you please take another look at that? — BarrelProof (talk) 06:17, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

@BarrelProof: I think I missed that. Will have a look again later in the day. – robertsky (talk) 07:37, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

French election articles (again)

Hello - unfortunately there is continued disruption on the articles (see this set of edits, which is restoring unsourced (and in some cases nonsense) information to articles and blindly undoing other edits. I've asked the editor to stop, but no response. Not sure really what do about this anymore other than give up and leave the articles in a mess? Cheers, Number 57 19:35, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

@Number 57, I was largely decompressing last night. It seems to be a cross between content dispute and personal references. I looked at some of your earlier edits, and it might not have help that you had made singular edits to remove uncited content and also stylistic changes, which unfortunately may have been seen as a wholesale negative change to the articles. I would have replied with "maybe WP:3O, WP:DRN, or WP:WikiProject France as the possible venues to centralise the discussion", or even WP:RFC (if well defined), but hey, you have taken it to ANI and let us just roll with that. – robertsky (talk) 07:32, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Well, I was just replacing one archive link for another. As for the shanghaiwalk page, it isn't recoverable. Also even if the links are dead, it may be kept as per WP:KDL, especially when there are multiple editors attesting to or have verified the content at the article's Talk page. – robertsky (talk) 03:48, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
ooo. just recheck. wrong link. reverted. – robertsky (talk) 03:58, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Kerman move close

You stated at Talk:2024 Kerman bombings, The argument for over precision is also countered by the point on if the event's notoriety is sufficient enough for it to be recognisable to the readers who are not familiar with the subject area. But the recognizability policy at WP:CRITERIA, with emphasis added, is The title is a name or description of the subject that someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in, the subject area will recognize. You also cited WP:TOOSOON in your close, which is an essay on notability that does not discuss article titles. Can you please have another look? VQuakr (talk) 05:00, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

@VQuakr haa... the crux of the closing is the applicability of WP:NOYEAR. While WP:TOOSOON is an essay for the article content, in my opinion the article title here can be applicable as well given that WP:NOYEAR has a temporal element to it: a historical perceptive. Circling back to WP:NOYEAR, from again, a historical perspective, will this bombing be an easily recognisable topic that can stand on its own without referencing to the year? This is one point which cannot be answered now. – robertsky (talk) 06:01, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
WP:NOYEAR goes out of its way to note it is a judgement call to be determined by editors. It isn't a case where the majority should be overridden by the closer. That's not what the guideline calls for nor is it a conclusion in line with the article naming policy I quoted above and in the nomination. VQuakr (talk) 06:17, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
... and WP:CONSENSUS applies still. Hence, I prefaced my close with WP:NOTVOTE to emphasize I was looking beyond the votes in the discussion. – robertsky (talk) 06:36, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
If consensus had been applied then the article would have been moved. The relevant policy favors the move as noted above and in the discussion, and the guideline you referenced notes it's a judgement call, which is a case where it IS a vote, a measure of opinions. Will you reconsider, or do I need to go to AN to get this overturned? VQuakr (talk) 06:40, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
Again, consensus != votes. There is WP:MRV for reviewing of requested move discussions. – robertsky (talk) 06:44, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
And again, yeah I know. There's both a clear consensus and a majority to move per policy. You're ignoring that and instead focusing on a guideline that specifically defers to editors' judgement (a rare case where it is a vote), which is a bizarre choice of things to do when you're ignoring the majority. Thanks for the reminder of MRV though. VQuakr (talk) 06:54, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Truth4Future (06:43, 26 January 2024)

Hi! My name is Thomas LeBlanc. I created an account today because I believe Wiki is soon to be the last vestige for truth in the new AI world. I have sent money a couple of times when asked. I love Wiki! My question relates to editing my Father's page (Leo LeBlanc) and adding his son's to have their own page. Can I? --Truth4Future (talk) 06:43, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Truth4Future/Thomas, thank you for your generous support.
Your question although is on your father's page, it is about his son to have an article for himself. While a mention of his son's name is possible, as long as there is a source to support the insertion as a reference, his son having his own article is dependent on whether if his son meets the general notability guidelines on his own merit, as relationships do not confer notability (see also: WP:INVALIDBIO).
If you wish to create a separate article for his son, do read through Your First Article.
Happy editing! – robertsky (talk) 07:07, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Also to note, if this son is you... Do read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY on why you should not write about yourself on Wikipedia. – robertsky (talk) 07:09, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

I believe the film is the primary topic due to its longstanding cultural significance, and a dab page isn't needed per WP:TWODABS. You should've contested this like you did for Anbe Sivam and Endrendrum Punnagai. The TV series isn't particularly notable or well sourced. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:08, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

@Kailash29792 Oh crap. Apologies for this. Thanks for the follow up. I somehow saw 2300 instead 23000 as the pageviews for the film when processing the queue. Will be reverting the move. :) – robertsky (talk) 07:11, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
@Kailash29792 and...  Done – robertsky (talk) 07:17, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. What about Lakshmi Vandhachu, Oru Oorla Oru Rajakumari and Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal? I feel the same as KK, but it would've been better to open RM for them instead of moving them straight. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:30, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Will take these as requests to revert undiscussed moves, and act on them later in the evening. – robertsky (talk) 08:26, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
@Kailash29792 ... and  Done – robertsky (talk) 14:15, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for taking care of that

Just saw that you processed my request for reverts of those undiscussed moves which were contrary to WP:COMMONNAME. It is moments like these (when the system actually works) which restore my faith in Wikipedia. Thank you! Coolcaesar (talk) 06:52, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

@Coolcaesar, do expect a full discussion on which title version these subjects are to be placed at though. I notice these pages have been moved between two versions multiple times. The only reason why I processed them as reverting undiscussed moves was because most, if not all of them, were at the shorter names for long periods of time prior to @Cfls' moves (with exception of the Data Science school, but it was created only relatively recently at the shorter title). – robertsky (talk) 06:59, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
