The Polish Review notability
- The Polish Review is used as a source on Wikipedia, including on "Paradisus Judaeorum". The "Polish Review" article would benefit from expansion, but should not be deleted, any more than the "Slavic Review" ought to be.

- Please see https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/The_Polish_Review.
- Nihil novi (talk) 19:51, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- That's a bad comparison. Slavic Review is a better known journal than Polish Review. Merely being used a lot on Wiki is no indication of notability. I have used Slavic Review a lot but never heard of Polish Review before now. buidhe 15:27, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello professor!
Good evening! This is 박효정 Hyojung Park from Collective Intelligence class.
I checked Week 3 deadline and completed wiki training. I also enrolled in Collective Intelligence dashboard.
But about choosing the article, how can I make a group? Sadly, I don't know anyone in this class. And as you know, we can't meet each other because of coronavirus.
Do you designate groups for all students? Or If you allow, can I do wiki assignment alone? Phj2015 (talk) 11:18, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello professor!
My name is Kim yoon(김윤).
I'm so pleased with listening your lecture again. I learned a lot of things of Sociology in your class, 'Invitation to Sociolgy(2018)'! By the way, I finished the training of Wikipedia!
I created a Wikipedia account, read the Wikipedia policies, watched your online lecture, and made a team. It's 이하영.
Is there anything else to do for Wikipedia training?
Actually, I listened to your lecure carefully and tried to follow the courses as fully as possible, but I'm afraid I've missed something.
If I have, would you tell me?
Thank you :)
Cincerely,

By the way, I hope it is okay to use not my real name as a wiki editor. (please tell me if it's not okay!) I just read the Wikipedia's tips of making a new account, and I just followed:) haha

Good afternoon, Prof. Konieczny, This is Dayoung Ryu (류다영) in collective intelligence 2020. I leave a comment talk page to mention that I finished student module (Basics). I try to study extra sections later. Also, as I said in my e-mail, I selected my article- that is collective action. I think it is interesting topic and related to our course topic. Thank you,

DYK for Cecylia and Maciej Brogowski
On 25 March 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Cecylia and Maciej Brogowski, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Cecylia and Maciej Brogowski, a Polish Catholic couple, were posthumously recognised as Righteous Among the Nations for having sheltered a Jewish girl during the Holocaust? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Cecylia and Maciej Brogowski. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Cecylia and Maciej Brogowski), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello professor Konieczny, I was wondering if you still have access to The Red Army's Lublin-Brest Offensive and Advance on Warsaw by David M. Glantz in the Journal of Slavic Military Studies. I need it for an essay I am writing, and access to it is expensive on Taylor % Francis. It would be great if you could show me a better place to access it or send the file if you still have it. Hello, Professor Piotr!
This is Gyongmin Moon from your Collective Intelligence lecture. I finished all the basic training for Wikipedia. And here I am to leave a talk message to you.
I just want to ask a couple of questions via this feature, and hope that you can reply these when you write a confirmation talk message in my Talk, if it is ok with you.
1) About the online blog assignment for the first week, were we supposed to write about reliable sources or the task in the video(How easy it is to publish a book)? Or were we had to do both of them?
2) About the Deadline 1, which is week 3, It says that we need to make a group of 2 people, but how can we do so if we can't actually gather up physically?
3) This question is just to check if I understood your task right. The group should choose 2 subjects that match at least 2 subjects among collective intelligence, sociology, and Korea, is it correct?
4) The number of individual assignment for online Wikipedia, is it 5~20 for the whole semester? Or is it for a week? When can we start doing it? And I'm not trying to do any foolish tricks, but how much editing would be counted as 1 edit?
5) Finally, are we supposed to tell you about our subjects by next week? Because in the syllabus it is scheduled in the week 3, and I'm not so sure that how I would choose a team project article without my team member. And if we are, are we supposed to tell you online? Or offline? It says we are required to come to your office in the syllabus.
Sorry to bother you with so many questions. I know that you will probably be in a rush of your own tasks because the University's schedule is keep on changing. But it's just that we are unable to meet face to face so I'm a bit confused what I need to do to make the things perfect. Hope to get your reply. Thank you. --GyongminM (talk) 12:42, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

- About the online wiki assignment, I searched for a few and found this article so called 'SCP Foundation' it seems like a online literature(?) that everyone can make their article about it like Wikipedia and also has a Korean website for it too. In Wikipedia, the English article is well developed but Korean one is very short. Can this be a subject that I'll be working on? --GyongminM (talk) 16:20, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- Good start, but I the Korean Wikipedia article is already developed enough I don't think adding to it would be enough for the wiki assignment. But you can still work on it for regular extra credit. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:32, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- I found couple of more articles that are defined as stub(토막글) in Korean, but well developed in Englsih and also have some intersection with our topics. 공유 세계관shared universe/오픈 콘텐츠Open content/팬 픽션fan fiction/살롱 (사교계)salon (gathering) Do any of these fit our standard for the wiki assignment? I'll be waiting for your reply. Thank you for reading. --GyongminM (talk) 03:45, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Great job finding new good topics. All of those topics are certainly tiny enough it can be expanded, and I think they are an important concept that fits into our course. You are welcome to chose any of them for the 'translate from English to Korean' part of the wiki assignment! Do let me know which one you want to work on. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:53, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. That's great. Then I'd like to do the 'shared universe' as my assignment. About the wiki assignment, I need to do 1 English to Korean translation, 1 English article expanding or making, and 5 to 20 other edits from those. Am I correct? If so, if we can actually do this assignment individually, why is this called the group project? I don't think I understood this part right. --GyongminM (talk) 06:29, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- @GyongminM: Because of the coronavirus switch to online classes, the group part of this project is a bit difficult. Normally, you'd be working in a group of two, and together you'd both translate one article to Korean wiki, and also write an article on the English Wikipedia. For now, as the group creation is delayed, you can chose 'half' of the group project, and start early work on it. Hopefully in few weeks we can create a group, and then you can help your teammate with his or her project, and vice versa. Each group should complete one project on English Wikipedia, and one on Korean. If you want to work solo only, this is possible, but in this case you need to chose a topic to expand/write from scratch on English Wikipedia. Of course, edits to Korean Wikipedia, such as translation, are still allowed for solo projects, and they can give you many extra credit points (since you'd be doing a 2-person project by yourself). Lastly, it's not "5 to 20 other edits from those"; I think you mean the part of the assignment that states that "In addition to working on an article as a group project, all students are required to regularly edit Wikipedia, making 10 edits total to English and Korean Wikipedia each week on articles different from their group article(s)". I hope this makes things a bit more clear. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:49, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, now I understand. Thank you for the fast and detailed reply. I'll do my best. Hope to see you and my future teammate soon. --GyongminM (talk) 08:29, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

I've done Exercise: Evaluate Wikipedia Evaluation, Exercise: Choose your article, as I sent you e-mail of my assignment topic before. And I tried to do the 3rd one, Exercise: Finalizing your topic and finding sources, I've done assigning myself an article but I can't understand nor find the 'Bibliography'. What is this? Call for supervision and question
Hello Piotrus, I'm looking for guidance from more experienced editors, therefore, I wish to ask you if commenting on this discussion [1] would violate my topic ban? Would you mind supervising and helping me until my topic ban is lifted, so I don't make a mistake? GizzyCatBella🍁 03:38, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- @GizzyCatBella: It's good to ask. I think that the article about Kot himself is within the bounds of your topic ("Your are topic-banned (WP:TBAN) from the World War II history of Poland. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes any acts of violence by, in or against Poland, or by or against Poles or Polish Jews, during or immediately prior to or after World War II, as well as persons known for their involvement in the World War II history of Poland."). But the article on Paradisus_Judaeorum is not related to your topic ban. That said, the part about "persons known for..." might include Kot. To be safe, I'd recommend not taking part in this specific discussion, through you can comment on other aspects of the article. You may also be able to comment on the 1937 article without discussing the author, since I don't think the 1937 article can be seen as related to your topic ban, as it has nothing to do with WWII history. But to be safe, I would simply recommend you to appeal your topic ban, I think it is over a year old now, and I think it hinders you from being a productive editor, plus opens to some unreasonable stalking/harassment, as I noted recently at AE. Then you can comment on whatever topics you want without wondering if you are getting into trouble. Btw, I sincerely wonder if you would be allowed to make an edit on article about, for example, Churchill. Or Pope John Paul II (who is in the Category:Polish people of World War II). What a headache. Sigh. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:55, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your guidance Piotrus, that is very helpful. I really appreciate it.GizzyCatBella🍁 04:12, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- I think about topic bans in terms of degrees of separation. If there's only 1 degree of separation it's a violation. But 2 or more is safe. If I were topic-banned from Germany, then anything about Angela Merkel would be out of bounds. But I can freely edit the article about Justin Trudeau even though he's friends with Merkel, because that's 2-degrees of separation from Germany. I just can't edit parts of Trudeau's article that discuss Merkel or Germany. ~Awilley (talk) 05:54, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Awilley, that's a very helpful illustration.GizzyCatBella🍁 06:01, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with Piotrus. The article as a topic itself is okay, but that discussion is just too close for comfort, in my opinion. --RexxS (talk) 16:15, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia assignment subject selection.
Hello, Professor! This is Gyongmin Moon from the collective intelligence class. For my Wikipedia assignment, I want to do it by myself doing 2 in Korean Wiki. For the subject, I want to be assigned for shared universe translation to ko:공유 세계관, which I already asked for your permission as my assignment, and with it, I want to do the Open content translation to ko:오픈 콘텐츠 as my second one if it's Ok. And I'm just asking but, do students who finish this assignment alone get extra points? Or are they get the same points with grouped students? Other than that, I have left you a message of me clearing 2 of the exercises from training for the students about a week ago, but I didn't receive a reply from you so I wonder whether you saw it or not. Help with 19th century Polish
Hi Piotrus, I've drafted an article on the once popular Polish card game of Drużbart, but am having trouble with translating some of the descriptions in Polish and wondered if you could help. There are only 2 short historical descriptions and I can follow most of it, but really need a native speaker to help me. Hi, can you help with one dispute?
Hi, can you help with one dispute?
The dispute with Peacemaker67 is at Operation Rösselsprung (1944) within this section.
I would appreciate your input regarding a simple dilemma: is review of young Marxist lecturer enough to prove unreliability of work of Joze Pirjevski which presents different (I think much more realistic) version of the event (also supported by long list of other authors)?--Antidiskriminator (talk) 21:31, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- It is a far from simple dilemma, and there is only one other published author who mentions any of this in their book, a former Partisan who says some things about Tito's poor military leadership at Drvar in his memoirs. Unkovski-Korica's age and political views are completely irrelevant red herrings thrown up by Antid in a disingenuous attempt to discredit him. He is a published academic lecturing at a British university whose book has received at least three laudatory reviews, none of which have suggested that his political views have affected his work. He clearly states that Pirjevski "sometimes relies on dubious sources and presents their accounts as indubitable fact. For instance, the section on Tito’s role in the Spanish Civil War (30–37) takes seriously hearsay that most historians have dismissed as proof that Tito physically found himself in Spain. In later chapters, Pirjevec refers to gossip and rumour, or the views of famous opponents like the former member of Tito’s inner circle and later dissident Milovan Djilas, the controversial historian Vladimir Dedijer, or the Serb nationalist novelist Dobrica Ćosić." As I have pointed out on the talk page, he also makes errors of fact. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:10, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

I chose you because you are an experienced editor, with whom I had some disputes in the past over some unrelated topics, and who do not contribute (much if at all) to WWII in Yugoslavia articles. Having all above in mind everybody should conclude that you could be considered as credible editor who is at least neutral toward me and topic in question.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 06:01, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Gdańsk crisis
I would be honored to translate the article. Google Translate is now working pretty good and with a little bit of polishing here and there, I think make it work as a pretty good article. Through the libraries are now sadly closed makes it impossible for me to access some RSs about the broader context of German-Polish relations in 1932. Affairs in the Free City were always very closely influenced by developments in the Reich, and the 1932 incident is tied to the new ultra-nationalist Papen government in Berlin. It is a shame that the Papen article, which I did so much hard work on back in 2017, has been butchered by an editor who cannot even be bothered to leave an edit summaries to justify his arbitrary deletion of properly sourced text to some very reliable sources and rewritten in a manner that is downright apologistic.
I'm not trying to some sort of anti-German rant, but I think that the way history is presented with the Third Reich as a freakish aberration from the norms of West and with everything that went wrong more or less blamed on Hitler is wrong. I'm not into the revisionist "Hitler was a good guy who just misunderstood" argument-absolutely not. Nor would I feel that Nazi Germany is the norm of the West-again that is wrong. But I do that the völkisch racism was an extreme version of ideas that were widely held at the time, such as the theory that the world was divided into a hierarchy of races with people from northwest Europe on the top. For an example, in 1924 the American Congress passed the Immigration Control Act which blatantly discriminated against people from eastern and southern Europe in favor of from northwest Europe. If the Congressional Record is any clue, the majority of the congressmen and senators who voted for that act did so because they believed in pseudo-scientific theories about immigrants from northwest Europe being the best sort of immigrants and it was necessary to keep out the racially "inferior" peoples from eastern and southern Europe. It would be a gross exaggeration to say these congressmen and senators were Nazis or they believed in genocide, which they clearly did not, but they share one of the fundamental assumptions of Nazism, namely that people from northwest Europe were racially "superior" to everybody else. Looking at that way, the Third Reich is not quite such a freakish aberration. In the same way, the theory that the Poles did not have the right to their own state was widely held by Germany.
Getting back to our friend Papen, he was a very, very right-wing Catholic, a man who not believe in völkisch racism, but who was prepared to work with the völkisch people as they shared certain common goals like pursuing an expansionist policy into eastern Europe and refusing to accept the frontiers imposed by the Treaty of Versailles. Papen if he had stayed in power long enough would undoubtedly invaded Poland at some point along the line. In his self-serving and very unreliable memoirs published in 1952 and 1953, he claims to have been opposed to Hitler and his plans for war, but then contradicts himself by saying he chose to stay on an ambassador to Turkey in 1939 because he was a good patriotic German who supported Hitler's "justified" demands against Poland. The first part about him being a "resistance fighter" is rubbish, but the second part about his "patriotic" duties to support Hitler in 1939 is highly revealing about his mindset. There was a widespread consensus among German elites in the interwar period that as General von Seeckt put in 1922:" The existence of Poland is intolerable and incompatible with Germany's vital interests". It is true that it was Hitler who started the war in 1939, but those if only Hitler had not existed, there would be no war, they are wrong. It is exaggeration that Papen was seeking a war in 1932, not the least because Germany was still more or less disarmed, but that was the ultimate objective. At the Lausanne conference, Papen suggested to Édouard Herriot that France renounce its alliance with Poland in exchange for an alliance with Germany. Alongside Papen's alliance offer was an proposal for a Franco-German economic union (since the German economy was three times larger than the French economy, it was clear who would be the dominant partner) and allowing Germany to rearm beyond the limits set by the Treaty of Versailles. The crisis in 1932 was directly tied to all this, none the least which was Piłsudski was afraid of a Franco-German deal and wanted to show Poland was not to taken for granted by anybody, hence the deployment of the Wicher to Danzig harbour. In that sense, Piłsudski's message was aimed at Paris, not Berlin. I don't like to criticize other people's hard work, and the Polish article on 1932 crisis is actually quite good. It should be noted somewhere the 1932 crisis began while the Lausanne conference was ending. That was because certain French diplomats had leaked the news of what Papen had proposed to Herriot to August Zaleski, who was serving the Polish delegate to the League of Nations at the time. Piotr Stefan Wandycz in The Twilight of French Eastern Alliances has some good information about that, which I will bring in. The Twilight of French Eastern Alliances is definitely the best book in English on the subject of Franco-Polish relation in the years 1926-36, which is period that tends to get neglected.
I'll start article tomorrow as it is now getting late in this part of the world. Thank you again for all your kindness and help, and I'm much honored with your request. I hope all is well with you. Best wishes and cheers!--A.S. Brown (talk) 05:58, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Piotrus, I got the article started here, through I still have to work in the material from Wandycz's book dealing with the broader geopolitical context and the Lausanne conference, which I will do tomorrow. I've started a discussion on the talk page, which may be the best place to reply, whatever the article should be called. I would personally favor something along the lines of Danzig incident (1932) for the reasons that I have outlined there. I'm sorry for missing your suggestion back in March-sometimes I miss things and I'm deeply sorry. Best wishes and cheers! --A.S. Brown (talk) 06:06, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
European Young Chemists' Network
Hi Piotrus,
I noticed that you suggested merging this page with the page of the parent society of the EYCN, EuChemS. However, I believe that this young network can have its own page as its organization and function is independent of the EuChemS to a significant degree. Apart from additional information that has been added regarding the organization, board composition and the projects of the EYCN, more references have been cited to increase the notability of the article. Please let me know if it can be accepted in its current form as an individual article. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DimitraP (talk • contribs) 18:21, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Questions about article rule + Article selection
1. Questions about article rule https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Anti-appeasement_steles
When filling out the article, I don't know which to choose between person's real name and rank name.
I got a message from someone that I need to correct sth in previous wiki project. During correcting references, I found out that the name 'Daewongun' in my article is not actually person's name but it was a Rank name in Joseon Dinasty.
During the Joseon Dynasty, special names were added to the position. Daewongun refers to the father of the king, and each Daewongun received different names. The person I mentioned in the article was given a name, Heungseon Daewongun.
So, I think I have two options. Use Daewon-gun, which is registered on the Korean and English wiki, or use Lee Ha-eung, the real name.
Is there any rule about editing someone'name or rank name?
2. Article selection I choose 'Hazing in the Republic of Korea Armed Forces'(https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hazing_in_the_Republic_of_Korea_Armed_Forces) for 'Collective Intelligence'. To follow your advice, I’ll complete and promote my previous unfinished project ‘Hazing in Korea military’. In 2018, I couldn’t make it perfect because of various reasons. I’ll add more references and contents. Also, there are some changes in ROK in 1,2 yrs. So I’ll add them
And I wanna write an article '연고주의' in English for 'Social development'. It is Korean social phenomenon that refers to a mindset that prioritizes or values the traditional social relationships of blood, hometown and school ties.
To help you understand, It is almost alike 'Nepotism'and 'Cronyism' But Nepotism means only giving advantages to relatives like kins or family. But the article that I want to write '연고주의' includes relative and hometown, school ties. For example, when I got a job in a company, there is an inner circle made up of school ties or hometown ties. So even if you first meet the person, he will helps you only because you have same hometown or same school ties. I think it is unique custom in Korea. And it is evaluated as obstructions to social development in many academic paper(http://www.ngo21.net/ngo21admin/adaction/down/02%C0%E5%BC%F6%C2%F9.pdf).
I searched WIKI but both Eng and Kor does not have this article. There is no Korean article in Wikipedia, so I wonder if I can use English article first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wkdrmstj (talk • contribs) 05:37, April 18, 2020 (UTC)

Topics Social Development & Collective Intelligence in Practice
Hi professor,
I think I was a bit too excited when choosing the articles. I understand that it is difficult to find reliable sources and I think I will get stuck with editing these topics later. However, based on your advice, can I still choose "Drug policy of South Korea" for Social Development and "Law enforcement in South Korea" for Collective Intelligence in Practice as topics?

I choose my article topic (Social Development class)
Hi, Professor.
This is Seonghui Kim, taking your social development class(2020).
I concerned about my topic so hard but finally I decided!
I'd like to translate Digital redlining in Korean.
Because I'm really interested in inequality or discrimination caused by new technologies like big data or AI.
And I found this topic is kinds of the thing I expected and also doesn't exist in Korean wiki page.
Maybe this topic looks only for the American case, but I think that can be happen all world society.
Also I might be find another case for Korean later, I can add that case in Korean wikipedia page too!
So, Can I choose this topic for my wiki project?

Hello, professor. I chose Article Topics. I decided to translate two articles in English Wikipedia to Korea Wikipedia. Because I want to develop my country's Wikipeida in this semester. The two articles are Childhood's End(Arthur C. Clarke) and Turing Test. Do you think they're good topics to translate Korea Wikipedia?(Article is alreday exist, but content in these article is so lack in Korea Wikipedia.) Can I add them on the dashboard page? Thank you.--Lim Ji Won (talk) 07:07, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Selection of the topic for the Social Development class assignment
Dear Konieczny Piotr Professor, as my assignment, I would like to extend the English page related to Solidarność - Solidarity (Polish Trade Union). I want to make the English version more expanded with a help of the Polish Wikipedia page regarding that topic (it's more complex). The first thing I want to focus on is the history and the activity of the organization until 1989.
Looking forward to your answer, kind regards Klara Smarduch KlaraSma (talk) 08:08, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

I choose one more topic (Social development 2020)
Hi, professor, Thanks for remind me that I have to choose one more topic. I almost forgot about it. So now I'm considering between Digital sociology or Knowledge divide to translate in Korean. By the way, I don't know how different between knowledge divide and digital divide. It's little bit confusing to me. The knowledge divide is bigger one so including the digital divide? Anyway, I think Digital sociology is really related to us because we are already in digital space, even now. And I think Knowledge divide is kinds of similar case as Digital redlining which I already selected. Which one do you think I'd better to choose? Can I get an advice please? Also, Is this topic is good enough to translate?
Thank you:) Kimsheather (talk) 08:13, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

I planned two classes of wiki project topics. Please check.
Hello, professor? My name is Lee Jaeseong and I take social development theory and collective intelligence classes.
First of all, I would like to write down the topic of the collective intelligence class wiki assignment about politician Cho Jung-sik. He is a five-term lawmaker in my neighborhood. Also, he heads the policy committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, the ruling party of the Republic of Korea.
Next, in the social development theory class, I would like to write a document on the subject of Economic inequality in South Korea.
Please check with the professor.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lee Jaeseong (talk • contribs) 20:55, April 19, 2020 (UTC)

Your students on Wikipedia
Hi there, it's great to see so many of your students contributing to Wikipedia - many of them seem to be enthusiastic about adding content, which is fantastic!
You may wish to encourage them to use the draft namespace to create articles, as it seems that many of them are being created initially with few to no sources. Of course (as you know already I'm sure looking at your edit count!) this isn't a requirement, and they seem to be enthusiastically adding sources once they find them, but it might hopefully mean less BLP PROD and CSD notices end up on their talk pages as a consequence :)

I'm ji eun Bang. I'm setting a topic for the article.
Hello, professor Piotr. I'm ji eun Bang. I'm setting a topic for the article. I thought of three things. Which one is the best among these ?
1. fandom of South Korea-This article already exists. click here But there isn't detailed explanation. ex) The characteristics of fandom by generation, The direction of solving problems and problems caused by fandom, the impact of reproduction culture, the impact of Idol industry, etc. If I choose this article. I can add or edit these contents.
2. Medical tourism industry of South Korea - Korea's medical tourism industry is growing rapidly. Especially in China, people often come to Korea for plastic surgery. I want to write about the characteristics and problems of Korean medical tourism.
3. entrance examination system of South Korea - It is a Korean article about this]. But there is no English translation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ji eun Bang (talk • contribs) 20:54, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

I chose the articles, Can I choose that?
Hello Professor. I'm Young-Joo, Park in Social Development.
I chose two articles. In the past, you suggested second version(namely translate two articles from English to Korean) so I want to translate articles.
The first article is zoological garden. I think, developed country has many zoological gardens, because people have extra money, time and so on. And Korea is developed country. But I searched zoological garden article(translate to Korean is 동물원), no article was existing. So I chose that article (en-wiki article is here)
The second article is botanical garden. I also think, developed country has many botanical gardens, because people have extra money, time and so on. And Korea is developed country. But I searched botanical garden article(translate to Korean is 식물원), I found one article(ko-wiki article is here). This is too short to use, and I want to expand that article with en-wiki article(article about botanical garden is here)
Can I choose that two articles? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Capoco1234 (talk • contribs) 08:04, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

I added citations in my wiki article(which I'm translating now). 디지털 레드라이닝 By the way, I found the citation number 11 in Digital redlining is not working anymore. (I tried to access that page but I couldn't see anything.) So I just googled a news related to that original citation's contents and I used it in my wiki article's citation. Is it okay to change? I'm not sure. haha. Maybe I'd better change in English wiki article's citation too. Anyway, Thank you! Kimsheather (talk) 07:42, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Good job adding a reference. And yes, it is very good to change a broken reference into a new one. You can also try to find the old reference archived in the Internet Archive. About weekly 10 edits and assignment 3
This is Dayoung Ryu in collective intelligence class. I have a question and need help to upload my assignment.
1. I try to make 10 edits for a week, but I thought I might have wrong information about 10 edits because of your comment that you left my talk page. As you know, I'm still working on few articles, such as Constantine, Broceliande, Sir hector, and more articles, because they are in the Korean Wiki article 'the Knights of round table'. But they are so long and I can not edit them in a day, so I separated an article in some parts and translated those. I usually make edit like this: Mon- Constantine (part 1), Sir hector (part 2), Broceliande (part 1) / Tue - Constantine (part 2), Sir hector (part 3), Broceliande (part 2), and etc. Is in countable work?
2. I finish my citation assignment, but I think something is wrong. I translate 'collective action' article with Wiki translate service, and translated 2 sentences and link them with citations. DYK for Pasquinade
On 29 April 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Pasquinade, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the pasquinade, a form of satire usually in verse or prose, is named after Pasquino, a Hellenistic statue in Rome on which anonymous postings were made? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Pasquinade. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Pasquinade), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

About weekly 10 edits (another question)
Good evening, Professor! Thanks to reply my talk page. I have few more questions.
1. You replied that I need 10 edits (5 are for extra credits among those 10 edits, right?) and 5 edits are needed to be on English. As I asked you, I edited some articles to Ko: the Knights of round table, and they are translated from Eng to Ko. I think it is countable for Korean article. However, to follow your 10 weekly edit guideline, I should work on English articles, so it might be better for me to change 10 weekly edits theme if it is possible. Because the Knights of round table English article has more contents than Korean version (it is the legend of Britain!). Can I change my weekly edit theme?
2. About attendance check I'm sure I complete all video lecture, but it could be hard to check my attendance without attendance check tool. Could you make 'Online attendance check system' on Black board? Dayoungryu11 (talk) 12:42, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

About weekly 10 edits (Final!)
I read you comment on my talk page, and thanks for your advice. I try to make more articles about Korean shamanism legendary stories in English. I think it could be interesting as much as King Arthur legend (and the Knight of the round table!). And I will contact your assistant and talk about online attendance check system.
Thank you, I will keep it up! Dayoungryu11 (talk) 04:42, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
I've barely started this but am looking for a source which seems to be behind a paywall. I've asked at the resource exchange, but it occurs to me that you might know someone who has access to this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. (On a side note, the woman, who she assisted during the holocaust, was a student of Maria Grzegorzewska...such a small world) SusunW (talk) 16:24, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- SusunW, I actually subscribe to GW but it appears that their system either has an error or I need a premium subscription to access that. And their system clearly has an error as it doesn't want to tell me what is the level of my subscription. My best idea is to ask on pl wiki and see if someone can help, but IIRC they don't have a dedicated page about asking for resources. I tried looking for more sources elsewhere (quick note: her name can also be spelled as Ojrzanowska). There is an academic obituary in [8] but sadly it does not appear to be digitized (should be under [9], November 2001, but that page range is missing - I could email them if you'd like). Her life story seems to be discussed (source) in the obscure book about Polish veterinary doctors who died in WWII ([10]) - obscure as I can't find it a worldcat? There is a paragraph summarizing her life at [11]. Her name appears to be mentioned in Ryszard Walczak (1993). Those who Helped: Polish Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust. Main Commission for the Investigation of Crimes against the Polish Nation--The Institute of National Memory. ISBN 978-83-908819-0-4. , Zofia Lewinówna (1969). Righteous among nations: how Poles helped the Jews, 1939-1945. Earlscourt Publications Ltd., Władysław Bartoszewski; Zofia Lewinówna (1970). The Samaritans: heroes of the holocaust. Twayne Publishers. and of course at [12]. Another source: [13] and [14]. Hope it helps, I'd be happy to help with this topic. There are plenty of fascinating WiRs to write about. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:40, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yay and thank you! You know I always love help. WiR topics this month are women and animals, CCE, and health, so she hits them all (even if it is health of animals). Please feel free to jump in and add whatever you like. I usually work in draft and then move to mainspace when I think I have enough to survive AfD. I don't think I can ask on Polish wp, unless I can ask in English. Perhaps you can ask? I did ask for the Medycyna weterynaryjna article on the resource exchange, as it is available in UK and US libraries, so was hoping someone could access it. SusunW (talk) 05:01, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- SusunW, I sent an email to MW editor(s). Emails are cheap, and if we are lucky we will get the a good source. As for Polish Wikipedia, you could post in English (many people understand it) here asking for GW archive article and ping me in case TL is needed. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:10, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

- I was hoping this, which appears to be a link for Gibasiewicz you found above might explain why sources say he was murdered by the Soviets. Weren't Poland/USSR on the same side of WWII, at least in 1940? The bio part, doesn't give any clue, pp144-145, but possibly somewhere else in the book does? (I couldn't get it to download, so just had to scroll to find his entry.)
- I've scraped about all I can from the sources I have access to, so am hoping someone can come up with verification about her actual career. Will give it a few days and see what happens. SusunW (talk) 22:37, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- SusunW, I am not sure who you mean by "he" above, but re Poland/USSR, it's a complex issue, beginning with Soviet invasion of Poland and made very thorny by the Katyn massacre. Polish government in exile was never on the Soviet side, which why Soviets had to do a communist takeover later. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:13, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- That helps a lot. Sorry for the confusion, "he" is Oyrzanowska's husband. All the sources say he was murdered by the Soviets at Kharkov in 1940. Since the Battle of Kharkov didn't happen until 1941, that was confusing to me. I knew about the Katyn massacre, but did not know that it involved Kharkov as well, and couldn't have told you when it took place. Let me work in some background info, so others won't be confused. The first document, the shared world, is 90% finished (I think), I just need to make some more edits making it easier to understand. And a lot shorter than the template or explanation suggested in English Wikipedia, for example, the Korean Wikipedia doesn't ask the users to review other nominations and also no 3 steps are suggested. WikiCup 2020 May newsletter
The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
- Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
- The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
- Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
- Lee Vilenski with 869 points, Hog Farm with 801, Kingsif with 719, SounderBruce with 710, Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and MX with 515.
The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. About citation.
Hello professor. Did you have a nice weekend? I hope you did. I watched the video for verifiability and reliability of citation today, and fixed some of the citations, that I linked to the English articles with only translated titles and etc information, to have both translated & original language. But then I found that my citation is the only citation that holds both translated & original language. For example: Choco Pie. So I just want to ask you if what I did is correct. Thank you for reading. P.S. I changed my signature. -- GyongminM 08:07, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Well done updating your signature, it looks pretty cool now! And yes, I think your references are also very good. Many people are not able to format them well, so many references on Wikipedia need fixing. But yours are in my opinion very good! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:27, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. And just one more, I'm translating the Korean version of the article Reliability of Wikipedia; ko:위키백과의 신뢰도. I'm trying to put a 'Being translated from another language Wiki article' template on the top but if I try to link it with the code en:Reliability of Wikipedia inside 2[], the link button doesn't show up. So currently I just linked it to the Reliability of Wikipedia without 'en:' which made it to be linked to the article in the Korean Wiki, causing it to be a red link. How can I fix this? -- GyongminM 08:48, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

About deadline 4
Hello, Professor. This is Dayoung Ryu in collective intelligence class. I finished my assignment. You might be able to see some bold characters under the each section, but they are not the main section(headings) in the article. Because each section are divided by many categories, I need to summarize them. I'm sorry for late, but I'm trying to catch up my assignment. Dayoungryu11 (talk) 17:36, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Help?
While we are waiting on that obituary for Janina Oyrzanowska-Poplewska, I'm at work on another Polish woman. The wp.pl entry lists her as Maria Zandbang, but en.WP would say that I should title it by her "common name", which would be Maria Zandbangowa. I get that that is probably the "conjugation thing", but I want to be sure. Especially in light of the fact that her mother gives her name as "Marja Zandbangowa" (see p 49, which comes up at p 51 of the pdf). Leading to the next question which is that the mother's name is also given as Maria in her article on wp.pl, but in that article as Marja Wodzińska. (I really, really do not like it when people translate my name, and I cannot imagine that just because someone is a historical figure, that we take license with theirs). I want to be sure of how to title it before moving it to main space. On top of that question, I have a couple more. Seems odd to me that the only reference I can find to her internment in Ravensbrück is the piece by the school for the blind. Surely there is another source, which would not only document that she was there, but explain why? (Though I note it is clearly on her tombstone). Lastly, I find that her record was still standing in 2011 and am curious if it has been broken yet, though I am unable to find anything that would clarify that. SusunW (talk) 20:02, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- On photos, I find this one which Urban's piece says is in the archives of the State Treasury from 1913. (does that mean it was published?) Another from 1913 (p 8) clearly published, but to my eye not as good of an image as the other one. (Clearly not the same photo as the # on her jacket is different and we know she rode different horses in that event). Finally one from her record in 1926 (p 1). This 1926 image identifies a photographer of R. Walter. Does that automatically indicate copyright or would commons:template:PD-Polish apply? Truly appreciate your help, but understand if you cannot. SusunW (talk) 20:09, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- And I noticed you got the obituary on Oyrzanowska-Poplewska! My question about that is that the pl.wp article says she was involved in the development of the first vaccine for rhinitis. What I can see from the snippet is "Prace professor Oyrzanowska-Poplewskiej zostaly unwienczone sukceesem opracowania pierwszej krajowej szczepionki przeciwko nosowec i przekazaniem..." which obviously stops mid sentence. To me that says based upon her work, the first vaccine for rhinitis was created, but without the rest of the sentence I am unsure if that claim can be made. Can you verify it in the original source? SusunW (talk) 17:32, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- I had a Polish librarian reach out to me and send sources of Oyrzanowska. Doesn't speak English, but said is happy to provide sources. If you can answer my e-mail, I can e-mail them to you. If you'd rather not do that, I can type them into a machine, but it will take a lot longer. SusunW (talk) 21:32, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

About Userbox decoration.
Hello, professor. This is Gyongmin. I hope you had a good weekend again. After watching half of this week's video, I used some userboxes to decorate my user page, but I cannot find out a way to make a huge board on the background of my user page, just like your blue-purplish big board on your user page. I don't want it so eagerly, but I think my user page would look nicer with it. I'll look forward to your answer, thank you. -- GyongminM 15:18, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Concerns on your editing
Piotrus, I looked at your edits after this: [17]. In that edit, you abused otwarta.org source [18]. otwarta.org does not see Antipolishness of the Polish Jews book legitimate. otwarta.org does not cover the nutjob of Judeopolonia - the Jewish state in Poland book at all. The "explaining the origins of pre-war Jewish saying 'our tenements, your streets'" is sourced in your edit to the nutjob book, and treats antisemitic saying as Jewish. 'our tenements, your streets' ("Wasze ulice, nasze kamienice") is an infamous antisemitic saying: [19], [20]. From [21]: "Wasze ulice, nasze kamienice (Your streets, our houses) is a popular Polish saying, which anti-Semites ascribe to Jews who..."
Looking at edits today, I also alarmed. What were you thinking in creating Category:Jewish merchants as only member of Category:Merchants by ethnicity? In Talk:Różan you have been making false claims, calling an encyclopedia a yizkor book.
Is there some explanation here I missing?--KasiaNL (talk) 06:53, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Question about the article
Hello sir, While i edit my artilcle, I found out that there are not enough references for supporting my article. So I want to discuss about changing the title of my article to 'History of candlelight rally in South Korea' Do you mind if I change my title? Thank you always. Have a good day. WoojinJeong:talk —Preceding undated comment added 04:12, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Woojin Jeong: I'd recommend finishing your current article and then starting a new one, based on a translation from Korean Wikipedia. Is there an article you want to translate for History of candlelight rally in South Korea? There is already a large article about the 2016–2017 South Korean protests.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:22, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello, professor. I'm Joon Hee Lee(이준희), taking a class on social development. First of all, I'd like to say sorry. I didn't participate in Wikipedia properly because I didn't read the lecture plan and announcement properly. This is definitely my mistake, and I will certainly take the disadvantage. Instead, I'd like to get back to work and feedback for the rest of the year, is it possible? I have completed Wikipedia before, and I would like to make the topic 'Korean climate change'. I'm sorry again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by June Hee Lee (talk • contribs) 07:28, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Dear 이준희, there is still time to complete the assignment and get A+, particularly with extra credit options. There is already, however, an article on Climate change in South Korea. So while you can translate that article to Korean Wikipedia for extra credit, you will likely need to consider another topic for English Wikipedia. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:32, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Piotrus, I was reading the discussion on the Talk page and I was struck by this comment: [22]. I assume it occurred in the moment of frustration over the influx of socks/SPAs in the topic area, including both disruptions of articles and attacks on you on your own Talk page. I understand your frustration and I can relate since in my earlier days on Wikipedia I was frequently on the receiving end of derisive comments such as "POV-pusher", "Nazi hunter", and so on.
Also from personal experience: such comments cut deeper when they come from established editors, not just from trolls. Being tied to someone who'd been Arbcom banned for harassment is up there and comes across as an ad hominem. We should not let our frustrations boil over so that they target long-term, good-faith editors. In the spirit of AGF, I hope you would consider striking the comment. --K.e.coffman (talk) 03:57, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi User:K.e.coffman. I have no problem refactoring my comments if someone finds them less than constructive, although I meant it just as a simple statement of fact with no ill intention. But in the show of good faith, I'll strike it, as it is also, whatever else, WP:DFTT, and NOTAFORUM anyway. However, since you mentioned this incident, I wonder if you could ask Sarah to extend a similar courtesy by asking her to refactor or strike her comments in a recent discussion at User_talk:François_Robere#Request_to_refactor_personal_attacks. As I said there, I found a number of her comments very hurtful, and I've asked her to refactor them; my repeated requests for that have been totally ignored. If you are concerned about the comment I made above, I'd hope you'll also consider tackling this issue, in the spirit of restoring collegial atmosphere and good faith in this topic area. I certainly believe that CIV, AGF and NPA are closely related and very important to respect and I am happy to help - but I'd like to be also likewise treated in a good-faithed, civil fashion by others. I hope this is not too much to ask for. Thank you, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:17, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for striking the comment; it is appreciated. In re: your request, I'm hesitant to do so at this time. I reached out to you when I did because the comment was posted on the article's Talk page. I feel strongly that ad hominem arguments do not belong on article Talk pages where they will be read by other editors, not just by the parties to the dispute. I'm reluctant to involve myself in a user Talk page discussion that took place ~3 weeks ago and in which I did not participate. In any case, if you ever feel that I engage in personalised comments on article Talk pages, please feel free to let me know. Written medium is difficult and comments may have been meant in a different way. I would be happy to strike or refactor such comments. --K.e.coffman (talk) 23:28, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice
Hi Piotrus, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Antisemitism in Poland: Motion (May 2020)
The following is added as a remedy to the Antisemitism in Poland arbitration case: 7) 500/30 restriction: All IP editors, users with fewer than 500 edits, and users with less than 30 days' tenure are prohibited from editing articles related to the history of Jews and antisemitism in Poland during World War II (1933–45), including the Holocaust in Poland. This prohibition may be enforced preemptively by use of extended confirmed protection (ECP), or by other methods such as reverts, pending changes protection, and appropriate edit filters. Reverts made solely to enforce the 500/30 rule are not considered edit warring.
- Editors who are not eligible to be extended-confirmed may use the Talk: namespace to post constructive comments and make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided they are not disruptive. Talk pages where disruption occurs may be managed by the methods mentioned above.
- Standard discretionary sanctions as authorized by the Eastern Europe arbitration case remain in effect for this topic area.

Hello, Professor
I submitted one of my article(ko:공유 세계관) in Korean Wikipedia to the ko:위키백과:알고 계십니까 and it's now shown on the front page of Korean Wikipedia. But I have a little bit of concern. ko:틀:알고 계십니까 has been vandalized recently and just until a couple of days ago, it was permanently protected. So, I asked in the ko:질문방 and had a conversation with one of the administrator, and he adjusted the permanent protection of the article to semi-protection, which enabled me to edit the article. What I'm worried about is, if I put all 2 of my own article on the ko:위키백과:알고 계십니까, and if another student of this lecture would post his/her 2 articles in the ko:위키백과:알고 계십니까, then at least 4 out of 5 articles on the front page would be changed in a very short period of time, since ko:위키백과:알고 계십니까 can only have 5 articles at a time. I'm not sure if this would be OK, because the articles already listed in Did you know are also hard works done by other Wikipedians, and just changing most of them all of a sudden might make them feel upset. Of course, they might not be if this is a normal thing to happen in Wikipedia, but I couldn't figure if it is normal or not. So I wanted to ask you if it would be OK. Thank you for reading -- GyongminM 06:09, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- GyongminM, Excellent job getting your article on the Korean Wikipedia's front page. You are really getting very experienced, and you are earning many extra credit points! I wouldn't worry too much about overwhelming the main page, so far your work is the first from our semester this year, and while I hope it won't be the last, I don't think there will be a flood. Worst case, there may be a bit of a backlog, but I am sure the Korean Wikipedia Main Page admins will appreciate some extra content to use. So don't hesitate to promote your work! You deserve all the credit. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:16, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Got it. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll try my best. -- GyongminM 02:52, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello Piotrus! Just wanted to get some feedback, if that's fine with you. Niënor Níniel has now been redirected. Were you still unconvinced about the notability after my my changes? (Volumewise they surely exceed the 2-3 sentences you mentioned, but maybe it was a content thing?) Or was it just bad timing that the deletion discussion was closed premature for a final decision? Or...? I was going to add something from the two border-line reliable sources next, and had one more point from "Tolkien Sidelined" which I could not figure out how to present, but well, that's not going to happen then. Thanks for letting me know! Daranios (talk) 09:25, 31 May 2020 (UTC) (This was originally posted 11:37, 27 May 2020 (UTC), but not using new section tool, sorry.)
- Daranios, I hope we can salvage your additions. Can they be added to the redirect target? If they are substantial, in the future we can always revisit the issue and consider recreating the old article. There is also the Wikipedia:Deletion review and such. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:20, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- I've not yet gone the route of a deletion review. Just putting that into the target of the redirect so that it was not in vain sounds fine at this point. In the long run one will see if that fits in there or should be split off again. I would be happy if someone merged that stuff over. Otherwise I may probably do that at some point in the future, but no idea when. Daranios (talk) 14:03, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Here's a fun one: how to translate this to English? :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:38, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Are you thinking of translating the Polish-Wikipedia article – or just its title?
- The Polish-language genre arose as a ca. 1535 Polish translation of the original 1515 German-language chapbook recounting the adventures of the merry prankster Till Eulenspiegel.
- According to Aleksander Brückner's Słownik etymologiczny języka polskiego, in my understanding the polonization of the character's surname (in German, formed from Eule, "owl" + Spiegel, "looking-glass", aka "mirror") to Sowizdrzał began as Sownociardłek (from sowa, "owl" + zwierciadło, "mirror"). But in the next, 1547 edition the overlong name was shortened to Sowizdrzał.
- There were also early French and Czech translations of the German chapbook.
- The character's outlandish German surname is derived by some scholar's from a play on words involving a scabrous German expression meaning, roughly, "Kiss my ass!"
- So, how you would treat the Polish article's title, "Literatura sowizdrzalska", may depend on what you mean to do with it.
- If you merely want to employ it adjectivally, you might consider "Eulenspiegelesque literature" (my neologism, so far as I know).
- Nihil novi (talk) 06:14, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Nihil novi, right now I link the term in the history of censorship in Poland which I have been writing over the last few days, and I'd like to translate the term better in that article, so the readers can understand what we are talking about. Not that most Polish readers would be familiar with the term anyway... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:36, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Interesting article. You might consider attaching a footnote to the expression "Eulenspiegelesque writings", providing a little explanatory information drawn from the above.

Thanks for your Intervention
Many thanks for putting the discussion into its appropriate context as a "would-be" drive-by editor (actually an experienced one) making aspersions at the content of that article as though the text contained Holocaust denial was utterly infuriating. That page, among many, is one where I made the bulk of the contributions, carefully so given the sensitive nature of the subject. Your correctives were on target as were your wise comments. We need more highly intelligent level heads to deal with the accretion of counterproductive trolls surreptitiously masquerading as "do-gooders" when the opposite tends to be the case. Reversion due to alleged promotion
Hello Piotruś, if you have a moment, I appear to have aroused the ire of Mr. Ollie on the Digital art article who has reverted my edits for alleged promotion of a living person, Jasia Reichardt, who is one of the earliest published writers on the subject. She happens to be the niece of Franciszka Themerson and someone I had not heard of until recently. She came to my attention through research into the Grabowski Gallery. Merging Plastic Surgery Articles
Dear Piotrus,
I am a newbie Wikipedian, but as a medical student applying into plastic surgery residency, I happen to be more informed than your average person in this topic. I agree with your discussion on the talk page of Plastic surgery that the article Cosmetic Surgery in Australia be merged with the general article for Plastic surgery, or that an article titled "List of Plastic Surgery Procedures" be created. (More likely the former than the latter.) I am happy to "be bold" and tackle this task, but as a newcomer to Wikipedia I have found the merging process confusing. I'd appreciate any assistance or suggestions you can offer. :)
Marcia Barnett (talk) 14:19, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Marcia Barnett: The best way to merge is to cut and paste relevant parts where they belong, then eliminate redundancies by deleting or combining redundant sentences, while making sure no relevant facts or hyperlinks are committed, and citation integrity is not compromised (see WP:Why every sentence should be cited). Please let me know if you'd like to explain anything I said here in more depth, or just be bold, try the merge and ping me when you are done and I can review it. Thank you for trying to help! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:42, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: Thank you for your reply! What do you mean by "no relevant facts or hyperlinks are committed?" Do you have any tips for organizing and formatting citations? I have a draft article in progress that likely won't be done for some time, but I will ping you when I am done for your later review. Thanks again. ---- Marcia Barnett (talk) 02:24, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Marcia Barnett: 1) "no relevant facts or hyperlinks are committed?" - when deleting content, consider whether it contains nothing of value. The final version should not be less informative. I see this often with new editors, including my students, who replace some old text with their own version, which while superior in some regards does not contain certain information or hyperlinks or such present in the old version. See also Wikipedia:Merging#Step_5:_Perform_the_merger, in case you didn't stumble upon this page. For organizing and formatting citations, ideally, I'd suggest settling on a Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Citation_style you like and following the guides related to that particular style. I strongly recommend using visual editor for formatting citations, I find it more friendly than the old code. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:51, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

- Reply tool: This is available as a Beta Feature at the four partner wikis (Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian Wikipedias). The Beta Feature will get new features soon. The new features include writing comments in a new visual editing mode and pinging other users by typing
@
. You can test the new features on the Beta Cluster. Some other wikis will have a chance to try the Beta Feature in the coming months. - New requirements for user signatures: Soon, users will not be able to save invalid custom signatures in Special:Preferences. This will reduce signature spoofing, prevent page corruption, and make new talk page tools more reliable. Most editors will not be affected.
- New discussion tool: The Editing team is beginning work on a simpler process for starting new discussions. You can see the initial design on the project page.
- Research on the use of talk pages: The Editing team worked with the Wikimedia research team to study how talk pages help editors improve articles. We learned that new editors who use talk pages make more edits to the main namespace than new editors who don't use talk pages.

Drug Policy of South Korea
Only one paragraph, eh?
Well, your solution worked. As a head's up, the same copyvios are also at Draft:Drug policy of south korea. I'll leave it to you to figure out if that should be deleted or similarly redacted. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 01:44, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello, Peter.
Hello, Peter. This is Moon Soobin, who was writing Wikipedia articles about agriculture in Korea in English. I encountered many problems while making this. So now I am going to translate two English wiki into Korean. Air pollution in South Korea. DYK for The Undivine Comedy
On 17 June 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Undivine Comedy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the drama The Undivine Comedy has been recognized as one of the most significant works of literature of the Polish Romantic period? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Undivine Comedy. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, The Undivine Comedy), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Apologize for the late reply.
I would like to say sorry for the late reply.
The Corona 19 virus caused a family problem that I couldn't write down here, so I couldn't reply on time. But I'm writing to let you know that one of the two Wiki projects has been completed and the other is about to be completed.
One completed article is https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hazing_in_the_Republic_of_Korea_Armed_Forces , I fixed the items that were pointed out last time and added references, articles, and photos. I'm sorry that I was late writing in English which is not on the Korean Wiki.
I'm sorry, but I was wondering if you could let me know how to review the document again and request a rating.

Hello, professor! I have moved my assigned article for this semester to the main page. Here are Personal media Part-time jobs in South Korea. Is it correct that this is recognized as the main article? Please check. Thank you. I tried to register for "Did you know". Greetings. I came across this subject and it seemed interesting. The parent museim also does not appear to habe a Wikipedia entry. I am hesitant to invest a lot of time on either subject because I assumt the Polish Wikipedia covers them and someone could translate? What are your thoughts on this? FloridaArmy (talk) 23:06, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- FloridaArmy, Thanks for the ping. The article looks like a good start. Yes, there is a pl:Muzeum Łowiectwa i Jeździectwa w Warszawie to link and you can use it to translate/expand the draft; AFAIK machine translation from Polish to English is pretty solid these days and you can ping me or just post at WT:POLAND for unclear parts/c/e. Remarks on your current draft: 1) ref to Galopuje 2011 seems broken 2) book reference needs page number(s) 3) I formatted the Polish name, see how to learn some useful code for your other articles. Ping me if you'd like me to review this further; I don't have much AfC experience but I'd accept it for publication; I've seen worse stubs and they would not be deleted. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:37, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- Okay. Thanks for the input. Even though it's now a branch of the larger museum I think separate article seems okay especially since the building is historic. But I suppose they can always be combined if others see it differently and an artixle on the main / parent museum gets written up. Thanks again. FloridaArmy (talk) 02:48, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- Piotrus, if someone uses AfC, they get reviews and comments. I think most reviewers at AfC would decline this stub as "fails to provide indicia of notability" and a number of other things (I have been criticized at AfC for being too quick to approve articles far longer than this one, just FYI). I actually think notability is established, it's just too stubby and messy. All I really want to see FloridaArmy or some other editor do is to fix the typos and bad punctuation, then maybe use the Polish language version to add a couple more paragraphs, then clean up their mess so it is ready for a move to mainspace. "I've seen worse stubs" is not a helpful argument (and if you have, for god's sake, improve them!). This particular user has created a lot of new articles, and frankly, they might want to graduate from AfC and just start creating articles in their own userspace. Montanabw(talk) 18:05, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Montanabw: I understand where you are coming from, but IMHO the issue is that AN(I?) should not have forced AfC volunteers to review such stubs. If someone is too lazy to create above-stub articles but makes passable stubs, I don't see the problem. Now, I guess FloridaArmy was creating too many articles that failed GNG or such, but my point is that this particular article, why stubby, would not be deleted from the mainspace. So if I knew how to accept AfCs drafts outside regular move to mainspace and cleanup I'd have done so (a few months ago I tried to accept an AfC draft and gave up and just moved the damn thing, the process seems too cumbersome/templated IMHO). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:31, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- I didn't know there was an AfD involved or an ANI report, I was just looking at the AfC draft, which isn't ready for prime time. If you want to clean it up, fix the misspellings, remove the working notes and make it a clean stub that at least explains notability in the first paragraph, ping my talkpage when you do and I'll move it to mainspace. Montanabw(talk) 17:50, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Some question about my wiki assignment
Hello professor piotr. I was too busy to do my wiki assignment very well because some problems about my graduation so I'm sorry to ask a question late. Anyway I started to do my assignment and I want to know how I can just add some image that is not uploded to wiki commons but just korean wikipage. My assignment is about Jeon Tae-Il and there is his image on his korean wikipage. So Ithink I can just copy that to english wiki page but, the image is just on korean wikipedia but not wiki commons. Then can I just copy korean wiki's image and upload that to wiki commons so that can I use that to english wiki? Or is there another way I have to do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linksang (talk • contribs) 15:18, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Linksang: Good question. You are essentially correct, but we can also ask User:-revi if there is a more formal way of doing so since we should keep attribution/etc. (Links: Jeon Tae-il, ko:전태일) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:37, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- I can see that the file is exported to Commons. Bit of warning: Republic of Korea (unfortunately) doesn't protect the Freedom of Panorama. This means it fails the rules of the Commons and it might be deleted anytime. Then you will need to re-upload it with the nonfree criteria. — regards, Revi 17:08, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

All-Polish Youth
Hello, I would be grateful for any of your input into Talk:All-Polish Youth#"based on fascist doctrines" as you are a very experienced Wikipedian and probably a better person to weigh in than me, especially given the Polish element to it. I think the main issue is the same as with any far-right organisation of this nature; they openly reject the label fascist whilst any ideological opponents are keen to call them this all the time. Nonetheless the person who has raised this issue seems to have registered an account only to by-pass the protection and I would hazard a guess that they seek to alter the article to suit their own views, but nonetheless it does not mean they are necessarily in the wrong. Either way I do not know what the Wikipedia "test for fascism" is. Would appreciate any of your help. Abcmaxx (talk) 18:02, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Wiki is fixed
Re: Jeon Tae-il There are many paragraph by one reference so I missed some paragraph's reference. Now I added all of them. And my assignment's references are mainly article so I added article's english translated title and journalist's name who wrote article. But some writer's name was not founded because article is too old like "한겨레 '전태일 거리'선포 (The Hankyoreh Declaration of Jeon Tae-il Street 1996). It just saved by naver. And also there are some foundation website references like "[전태일기념관] 기념관 안내 Jeon Tae-il Memorial Hall Guide of Memorial Hall and "Beautiful Youth Jeon Tae-il Foundation From Foundation Introduction" I just added english translation of foundation's name. The other book references are now added author and publisher's english name and english title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linksang (talk • contribs) 13:24, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Korean dining culture and Korean directors
Hi Piotrus, while doing NPP today I came across Korean dining culture and Korean directors which both seem to have been created by a student of yours, Engwhyandae. Are you aware of articles like these for other countries? Additionally, both struck me as more essays than encyclopedia articles and so I'm wondering what support is offered to your students? I'm quite familiar with WikiED's process but know things are different in international contexts. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:03, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

A Wikisource matter
- I have completed an English translation of an 1873 public lecture by Bolesław Prus On Discoveries and Inventions [25]. Prus' lecture anticipated by half a century Florian Znaniecki's pioneering 1923 paper suggesting the creation of a discipline intended to study science – nauka – itself.
- Before my translation can be finalized, it needs to be validated: [26].
- Is there someone you know of who could be entrusted with the task, and who you think might be willing to undertake it?
- There is no particular urgency; but, of course, the sooner the validation and finalization can be completed, the better.
- Thanks for your consideration.
- Nihil novi (talk) 07:19, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
I have started to review your translation. If there are no objections I will continue in a few days. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:39, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate your interest.
- As I've mentioned, Prus' 1873 lecture anticipated by 50 years Florian Znaniecki's 1923 paper proposing the creation of a "science of knowledge" – what in a 1935 paper Maria Ossowska and Stanisław Ossowski would in English call, somewhat infelicitously, "the science of science". I understand that the latter 1935 paper, in English, made quite an impression in English-speaking academia.
- I don't know whether there has been a joint review of these 3 papers. It occurs to me that the approaching hundredth anniversary of Znaniecki's paper, in 2023, might be an opportune moment for a note on the subject.
- Prus' lecture is much shorter than Znaniecki's (which is some 80 pages long) and is more congenial to my own thinking.

WikiCup 2020 July newsletter
The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
- The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
- Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.
Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck!

Hello Piotruś, thank you for the tip. I know Andrzej Suchcitz who wrote a Polish book about burials at Brompton Cemetery, probably out of print, I have a few Xero copies of pages. I also knew (way back) Marek Rencki who is one of the people behind the Polish Heritage Society which has the most comprehensive list I know of, of London burial locations and Polish names. There is also a woman in Warsaw who single-handedly runs a site about burials, mainly in Warsaw, but also world-wide. If you need addresses, let me know. Merging idea
Hi, Piotrus.
I was wondering whether it is a good idea to propose merging Kingdom of Poland (1025–1385), Kingdom of Poland (1385–1569) and the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland into a one complete article called the "Kingdom of Poland". These three entities/states are practically the same, and I'm guessing the reason for their split was to define one kingdom in the Middle Ages, one in the Renaissance period and one during the Baroque/Enlightenment era. I don't see why that would be necessary since the political scene (monarchy in any form) hasn't changed in Poland until the dismantling of the Commonwealth in 1795 and the current division of these three articles creates more confusion (why would one Kingdom end in 1385? Did a new one under a different name appear in 1385?). Moreover, the Kingdom of Poland was one of two constituents of the Commonwealth, so the proposed "Kingdom of Poland" and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth articles would remain separate as they should. We can observe this in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania article and in the Kingdom of France. Hope to hear your opinion. Oliszydlowski (talk) 08:45, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- {Rto|Oliszydlowski}} Thank you for pointing out the problems here. Merge is not a good idea since in theory, the first two articles are about entities and like articles about Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or Second Polish Republic should have sections about the economy, culture, etc. The Crown article was intended as a geography/administrative level article. I see however that a while ago an anon messed them up. I'll start by fixing the articles to what they were for the last ~15 years. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:04, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm not contesting the PROD, but is it possible to redirect the first two to List of Batman Beyond characters and the third to List of Batman Family enemies after the 7 days? They are plausible search terms. Rhino131 (talk) 12:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Nevermind, looks like Andrew Davidson deleted the PRODs. The fictional character notability war continues! Rhino131 (talk) 00:08, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Rhino131, I am always fine with redirecting, but well, if the prods were just removed with no good rationale, I feel that AfDs are the way to go (as if I redirect them, which generally doesn't generate any notification, they can be be de-redirected with no-one the wiser). I find redirects after AfDs perfectly satisfactory as a compromise. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:11, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Help!
Hello Piotrus, Please help me translate "Regiment Dragonów Królewicza Imci Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego" into English. From what I gather,
- Regiment Dragonów -> Draggon Regiment
- Królewicza -> Prince
- Imci Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego->?
Thanks in advance, --Itzhak Rosenberg (talk) 17:33, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Itzhak Rosenberg, Sure! Dragoon not Draggon. "Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego" is easy, I am sure you know it to - it's GDL (declination version -> of). It is the 'imci' that is tough (also ping User:Nihil novi) as it is a rare historical term. Imci is a declination of imć, which is a short for His/Her Majesty (ich moście). Through in the short form in Polish it became used beyond royalty, like Sir or Mr. (but it can be used together with Mr. like "imć Pan"). Abbreviation HM is not used outside Navy ships, hmmm. The best equivalent I can think in English would be "his grace", but is it abbreviated? I don't think so. I'd render is the Dragoon Regiment of His Grace Prince of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. PS. According to [35] His Grace could be abbreviated to HG but I don't think it is common. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:23, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- As usual when translating, it helps to have adequate context. For example, is this "królewicz" an ordinary "royal prince", or "king's son" – or is he perhaps the crown prince? Why does "Imci" follow rather than precede "Królewicza"?
- Context might help refine a translation.
- Thanks.
- Nihil novi (talk) 05:10, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you to you both for the help! No wonder I couldn't translate it ;). The article pl:Regiment Dragonów Królewicza Imci Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego doesn't truly provide any more information, but by deduction, we can instantly remove Crown Prince (there was no such in the Western sense in the PLC). It would be very bizarre if the regiment was "of the King's son" because the son would have been at least the nominal chief of the regiment, which isn't the case here. However, the chief was from the Oginski House that is among Princely houses of Poland and Lithuania. I think "Royal Prince" doesn't apply because the nobility wanted equality... So, I assume that the best translation would be "Dragoon Regiment of His Grace the Prince of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania". Thanks a lot, you have been very helpful!--Itzhak Rosenberg (talk) 09:32, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
