Tool of the week

• User:Teester/EntityShape.js - a userscript that adds an input box to a Wikidata page wherein you can enter an EntitySchema (such as E10). When you click "Check", checks whether each statement and property conforms to the schema. It then displays a summary at the top of the Item for each property indicating whether they conform or not. It also adds a badge to each statement and each property on the page indicating whether they conform or not.

Recent changes

• At the Wikimedia Foundation a new task force was formed to replace the disabled Graph with more secure, easy to use, and extensible Chart. You can subscribe to the newsletter to get notified about new project updates and other news about Chart.
• The CampaignEvents extension is now available on Meta-wiki, Igbo Wikipedia, and Swahili Wikipedia, and can be requested on your wiki. This extension helps in managing and making events more visible, giving Event organizers the ability to use tools like the Event registration tool. To learn more about the deployment status and how to request this extension for your wiki, visit the CampaignEvents page on Meta-wiki.
• Editors using the iOS Wikipedia app who have more than 50 edits can now use the Add an Image feature. This feature presents opportunities for small but useful contributions to Wikipedia.
• Thank you to all of the authors who have contributed to MediaWiki Core. As a result of these contributions, the percentage of authors contributing more than 5 patches has increased by 25% since last year, which helps ensure the sustainability of the platform for the Wikimedia projects.

Problems

• A problem with the color of the talkpage tabs always showing as blue, even for non-existent pages which should have been red, affecting the Vector 2022 skin, has been fixed.

Future changes

• The Trust and Safety Product team wants to introduce temporary accounts with as little disruption to tools and workflows as possible. Volunteer developers, including gadget and user-script maintainers, are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. The team has created documentation explaining how to do the update. Learn more.

A cup of coffee for you! Dissenting vote on Charter

Thanks for being the one Wikimedia Foundation trustee to make a dissenting vote to ratify the meta:Movement Charter. foundation:Minutes:2024-07-08 The Charter is the present outcome of ten thousand Wikimedia editors' hopes and dreams for a better future for the Wikimedia Movement. While I can understand the board declining to ratify the Charter, it would have made me extremely anxious to see a situation of total non-support when the Wikimedia community has put so much effort and good wishes into this. It can be hard to be the lone dissent, so thanks for being brave to advocate for the minority perspective. The Wikimedia Foundation mission is to "empower and engage people around the world..." to develop our platform, and regardless of how the Wikimedia community overall votes on ratification, there are definitely large number of supporters. Your vote is social validation of that diversity of perspective. Knowing that the board has differing views represented is encouraging. I have complete respect for the other trustees' vote and decision also, but I wanted to thank you personally because you are the one standing alone at this time. @Bluerasberry and Mautpreller: Thanks. I think this has been really tough for everyone involved. It will be really interesting to see the outcome of the community and affiliate ratification votes, and particularly the feedback that everyone has provided alongside the votes. I disagree with the statement that the 'Board does not represent the Wikipedians', though - since the majority of the Board comes from the community, and this is a really complex topic with many different views across the community. I do think the proposed experiments are now a good way to move forward, and I'm really hoping to see this talk page fill up with thoughts and comments about the three experiments. Thanks.
