I've been uncertain about the viability of this article since its creation; although it largely avoids SOAP in its tone, it's still largely OR/SYNTH and something like news/magazine rather than encyclopedic content.....thoughts? Danny Williams

[edit]

I noticed you rated the Danny Williams article and I was wondering if you had any suggestions of how to improve it? As well is there any reason why you only gave the article a mid-importance in the "WikiProject Canada / Newfoundland & Labrador / Politicians", I am a bit bias but I would think it should be higher. Williams became a household name theoughout the country and was considered by many media outlets as the most high-profile premier so I find mid-importance a bit strange, though it doesn't make much of a difference.

Finally if you get some time could you also rate the Kathy Dunderdale article? Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 04:19, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the meeting is on! You said you were interested in attending an informal meeting with Sue Gardner while she was visiting in Toronto, and the plans have been firmed up. The event will be Sunday evening at the Linux Caffe from 6-8 pm on Sunday, Feb. 6.

If you have a moment, please add your name to the attendees list at Wikipedia:Meetup/Toronto/February 06 2011! - Amgine (talk) 03:43, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It seems beyond me why you would revert at least one of my last two edits. First of all, it is true that Rugrats may be surpassed by SpongeBob (or is such an edit against "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball"?). But secondly, and most importantly, if Rugrats "was" an animated television series, what is it now? 67.80.144.146 (talk) 00:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's an animated TV series that isn't being made anymore. PKT(alk) 12:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But still, like you just said, it is an animated TV series, although one that isn't being made anymore. That sort of kills the purpose of "was". And as I recall, there has been an ongoing debate about whether to use "is" or "was" for things not in use or production anymore, and I'm pretty sure "is" won out. Should we perhaps rephrase the opening statement, or what? 67.80.144.146 (talk) 12:51, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care. Just don't make a contentious edit at the same time. PKT(alk) 13:25, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I cleaned up this article a bit since you rated it Start class yesterday, I was wondering if it should be upgraded to B or not. I'm unable to get a lot of information on Sullivan so there's not much more I can add. Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 23:52, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was forgetting there was C class. There's probably a bit more I can do to improve it, possibly adding in all the posts he held while in opposition, I've been looking for stub or start articles lately to improve and this was one of them. Any tips you could give me would be great, though it's not that easy to get information on him. Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 21:14, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Utahraptor resigns

The UtahraptorTalk to me has decided to step down from his position as project coordinator due to real-life issues.

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

New coodinators

On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance.

National Register of Electors

[edit]

Hi there. You mentioned here that you might be able to help out with the article National Register of Electors. Someone recently nominated it for GA; would you mind doing a review? If you're not familiar with the process, there are six key criteria an article should satisfy to pass GA. (This one may not do well on the last point, illustrations, though I've perused Commons to find something suitable.) Here's a current review of the Tony Blair article for an idea of what's involved. I know there are a few issues I've yet to address, but I'd like a critical opinion from someone else.

Don't feel forced into this; if you don't want to, that's OK. Mindmatrix 18:35, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your proposed Deletion of James Channing Shaw article

[edit]

Hi PKT, just a quick courtesy note to say I have opposed your proposed deletion of the James Channing Shaw article. I've given my reasons on the Talk:James_Channing_Shaw#Proposed_deletion page. This article came up as part of the "random unsourced biographies" project, so, although I know nothing about Mr Shaw, I tried to assist the project by finding sources for his Biography. My google search came up with over a million online references to him, and his best-known publication is still in print snd is readily available to the public via Amazon. So I think it might be worthwhile retaining his biography on WikiP for the time being, even though it is just a stub. Readers of his writings may wish to know more about him. So far, 54 people have signed up for the drive, and 33 are actively participating. If you signed up for the drive but have not participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We currently have 17 articles awaiting edit.

Progress report

We are making slow progress on achieving our target of reducing the overall backlog by 15%; in order to accomplish this goal we will need to complete about 400 more articles. However, we are making good progress on the 2009 backlog, as we have eliminated over half of the articles from 2009 that were present at the start of the drive. Let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009; leaderboard awards will be handed out for 2009 articles this drive. Thank you for participating in the May 2011 drive. We hope it will be another success!

Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive report

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating!

Participation
GOCE May 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. GOCE drive invitation

[edit]
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Progress report

Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating!

GOCE July 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.

Participation

50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.

Progress report

During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.

Requests page

Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated.

Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there!

What exactly makes it "low importance" again? It is Canada's official national pro league. Tom Danson (talk) 14:54, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as an avid Canadian sports fan, and a frequent viewer of TSN and Rogers Sportsnet, I can definitively tell you that this league has NO prominence in the country. CIS basketball is more important than the National Basketball League of Canada. PKT(alk) 16:11, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And NBL Canada has gotten significant coverage on TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, CBC, and others-all before tipping off. Let's see how it's inaugural season goes-would you be willing to reassess if it's a resounding success? Tom Danson (talk) 16:25, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
NBL Canada has had a bit of coverage [1] [2], but it's hardly significant. It should never be rated more important than the CFL or similar leagues, which are currently rated "mid" importance. Ask me again in about 4 years. PKT(alk) 18:42, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake. Didn't know the CFL was only rated "mid-importance"...thought it'd be higher. I agree-we'll give it some time. Tom Danson (talk) 21:44, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you decided that it was not in the scope of WP:Canada. This would seem to be at odds with theBattle of Lake Erie, the Battle of the Thames, etc. The history seems clear to me. You might want to rethink your position. Happy editing. 7&6=thirteen () 15:32, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that the battles you mention are within the scope of WPCanada (and indeed they are tagged as such), but Perry (leader of the American combatants) is not. He wasn't Canadian. PKT(alk) 17:55, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, if the nationality of the combatant is the criteria, then you are right. I presume then that WP:Great Britain would say that the Battle of Waterloo is within its scope, but Napoleon is not. In that sense, Tecumseh who sided with the British in the War of 1812 and helped them defend Canada, dying in the process, at the Battle of the Thames is outside your project? You may have a point. I am not being difficult here, but the distinction seems somewhat odd. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen () 00:30, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nationality, or at least that the subject identifies(-ied) him/herself with Canada, is a key determinant in whether the subject is within scope of WPCanada. Tecumseh is actually out of scope (surprising to me, but it makes sense). PKT(alk) 12:06, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Given the fact that he was a ;member of a tribe, and was neither American nor Canadian, and that he threw in with the British, I am surprised about Tecumseh. 7&6=thirteen () 16:58, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! About http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Talk:Second_Cup&diff=399326066&oldid=395437280 I put anything related to Mississauga in the Toronto Wikiproject because Mississauga is in the suburbs of Toronto

Companies do qualify for state and/or city/metro Wikiprojects - it depends on where the corporate HQ is located. Second Cup's HQ is in Mississauga so it is a part of the Toronto and Ontario projects WhisperToMe (talk) 23:23, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Mississauga is not Toronto, but it's too fine a point to care about, as far as I'm concerned. PKT(alk) 00:37, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I said it's a part of the Toronto and Ontario projects. I'm aware it's a separate municipality. :)
I looked at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Toronto#Scope_includes_Markham.3F - It seems odd to include the cities themselves, but not their contents. Usually metro-area projects include the things associated with the suburbs too. For instance it's common for major corporations and groups of people to move outside of the core/main city and into the suburbs, but they are still heavily associated with the core city.
Articles about places and things about suburbs generally need the attention from the same pool editors who edit articles about places and things in the city limits.
WhisperToMe (talk) 00:55, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not "WikiProject Greater Toronto Area". I wouldn't include the surrounding municipalities in WPToronto, but I'll live with the consensus. PKT(alk) 00:59, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, ok :) - A lot of the American metro projects are simply called "Philadelphia" "Chicago" etc. but cover the metros as well WhisperToMe (talk) 01:04, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mystery

[edit]

Please solve this mystery if you can...

On September 23rd, traffic to Portal:James Bond doubled, and has stayed at the new level since then. I can't figure out what happened.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Portal%3AJames_Bond

Traffic to Outline of James Bond stayed the same (though it was at the higher-level already), which leads me to suspect changes made somewhere in Wikipedia.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Outline%20of%20James_Bond

I'd like to find out what happened, in case it reveals helpful link placement tips that can double the traffic to outlines too!

I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 00:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FYI... On Talk:Jeet Aulakh, you added a "priority" parameter. There hasn't been a priority parameter in a few years. You should use a&e-priority, sports-priority, etc. Bgwhite (talk) 21:02, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding the "priority" parameter to biography banners as you have done to Talk:Krista Erickson and others. You've had some past experience with this, and I was wondering if you could look into it to see if you think this is another sockpuppet. Thanks, -- Whpq (talk) 15:33, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I opened an SPI case for WolfSearcher3 at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Toronto2503. PKT(alk) 15:42, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Confirmed sockpuppet, along with 2 other accounts. Thanks for letting me know! PKT(alk) 18:49, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Star Pirates AfD page standoff

[edit]

Hello :)

I'm Captain Waffles, a player of Star Pirates and I would like to make an appeal for your input on the AfD page. The opposition is mainly based off the remarks of a certain "Quasi Reality Event". This person stated that they were a SP player, and it is broadly believed that the AfD page was created by someone with hard feelings towards SHG. There have been many banned players that became extremely angry when the Admins booted them for breaking rules, some of them for more extreme than others.

What I would like is for you to review the page one more time, it has been updated and vastly improved, many relevant sources are now provided, and formatting organized. The AfD has found itself at a complete standstill with bias smearing both sides. We need someone to provide an objective analysis of the page's current status. If you feel that the page is still not appropriate, then we will not be bitter over deletion. We have done all we can at this point and just need an objective opinion.

Thank you for your time!

Thanks for your note. Remember that the AfD process calls for closure after 5 days, at which time a closing admin will review the discussion and determine whether the consensus is to keep or delete, with "no consensus" leading to keep. The Star Pirates discussion is not at a standstill - the clock is ticking. My role in the Star Pirates discussion is neutral. I merely found that some lazy monkey had gone through the first of three steps in an AfD nomination process, and I couldn't leave the article the way it was. I'm not a gamer at all, and I have no opinion as to whether or not Star Pirates might meet notability standards. PKT(alk) 16:26, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy reply! I was not aware, and thank you for your elaboration. I have one more question, however. A friend of mine had his IP blocked from editing after he made a contribution regarding due process. Do you know if there is any way to reverse this? 173.101.33.49 (talk) 16:41, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hehehehe, well, there must have been a reason why he got blocked, eh? There is a process to ask for an unblock, which is found at Wikipedia:Appealing a block. PKT(alk) 16:50, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Thanks for all the info, and have a good day. :) 173.101.33.49 (talk) 17:11, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In James Cameron Watson, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Bell Telephone (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
