Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 12,769 last month to 12,795 on 30 July). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 127 is ahead of WP:GM who have 85. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 62 out of a total number of 3,633 articles.
Currently we have forty Yorkshire featured articles:
As of 29 June 2016, we have assessed 100% of all articles with a project banner.
(Some new and additional article talk pages may still require a banner however)

Celebrations
Celebrations are in order this month as we reach a milestone in the project with 100 editions of the newsletter. It was way back in May 2008 when we introduced the monthly newsletter to project members and I hope that it is still useful to keep members informed of things that are going on in the project. Sometimes you wonder if there is any activity going on and what is happening to the articles in the scope of the project but slowly things are progressing. In May 2008 we only had 3,343 articles to look after, but today that is 12,795. Membership was 45 but is now 82, even though we had a cull of members who were no longer active during that period. Of our identified 15 top-level importance articles, 1 has been promoted to FA-class, 3 have been promoted to GA-class, 1 to B-class, 1 to C-class, while 1 has been demoted to GA-class and another to C-class, note that C-class did not exist in May 2008. We now have 40 FA-class articles and 16 FL-class lists compared to 9 FA-class articles and 7 FL-class lists in May 2008.
Congratulations to all who have helped along the way and be inspired to move things forward over the coming months.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The August 2016 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

@Biscuit1018: I didn't read it in detail, the reason for my use of rollback was because of the apparent misformatting and misspellings. I've also blocked Wingtbot for breaching the username policy by having a name ending in -bot. Nthep (talk) 15:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. He/she was basically making anti-semitic allegations that aren't backed up with any facts. I don't think much of the subject at hand but we have to stick to facts and not wild allegations. It seems fortunate that he is a poor vandal. I do suggest you put the page on your watchlist Biscuit1018 (talk) 16:03, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for August 14
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Woodeaves Canal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ashbourne. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
Hi Nthep, I've edited the article in English but I'm unsure as to what to do now with the page where it was originally listed as needing translation ([1]) -- Any suggestions? Thanks! Campelli (talk) 20:07, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
His full name was George Edgar Little, born in 1885 or in november 1883; he was anyway live in 1958. If you find his date of death it's possible finding news about him.. thank you anyway :)! --2.226.12.134 (talk) 19:30, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Understood on the not copying content from the 'thigh' page. As for etymology, I'll search for a source, but all I have at present is anecdotal. I live in this region, and it's a known word to everyone here. Not so much when I visited California recently... I'll make some edits and I'm putting it back up. NinjaKilPirate (talk) 19:18, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
@NinjaKilPirate: if it's anecdotal and you can't find any sources then it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. If it is just another word for thigh then the best it should be is a redirect to thigh. Why does it merit an article about it when it's just another word for an existing topic? Nthep (talk) 19:20, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello. I was looking at the open tasks on the WikiProject Military History open tasks page, and saw the page that I wrote above. I was wondering if you could help me create this article.
@Jak474: Not a topic I'm too familiar with and I imagine it's a biggie. Look some source up first before writing anything. An overview of the topic would a good start e.g. describing who was involved, technological advances, casualty levels, effect on the overall conduct of the war. Nthep (talk) 16:15, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
@StonyBrook: categories and lists are different things and both can exist on a page. If you look at the category page you'll see that redirects are only on that page where they redirect to a totally differently named page rather than Murder of X. Nthep (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for explaining. Is a main page of that sort considered a biography, i.e. warranting a biography portal template, plus inclusion of personal categories? StonyBrook (talk) 22:08, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Without looking at some to see whether they do or don't, I don't know, have a look at some talk pages to see what is on them. Nthep (talk) 22:11, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection
Hello, Nthep. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you. This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

See how template parameters are used
The following was reported in Signpost and is very useful for finding mistakes in template usage.
The Template Parameters tool is now available on Tool Labs, for viewing template parameter usage. It works with TemplateData to show the validity of parameter names that are used in template transclusions. For a required parameter, it can display a list of pages where the template is missing the parameter. The tool also shows commonly used values for each parameter. The data is updated monthly.

Price of Peace AfD
My thinking was kinda stuck in a box on this one. The best move for either you the nominator or me the first vote would have been to create boldly the appropriate redirect, and note that at the AfD. It would have simplified things greatly. I'm going to do that anyway. This whole mess is certainly a good arguement for improvement in the NPP process. John from Idegon (talk) 15:19, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
@Bob.smith.69: Thanks but as per the notice you will have to get an email from him and submit it. The licence you have used says it is your image and you have given up all copyright on it. Nthep (talk) 19:51, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Rotodome
Hello. I was wondering if you could ask some people that you know if they could help me create an article about rotodomes. If you could I would appreciate it.
Your best bet with any new article is to ask at the talk pages of any Wikiprojects you think might be interested. Nthep (talk) 14:10, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
@Sussex Wolves: you can create any article by typing the name (with the correct capitalisation) into the search box. If no article exists you'll be given a link to create it. A plea, please include something to identify the subject and what they are known for, rather than just a name and a load of unreferenced achievements. Nthep (talk) 19:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Hello. Could you please help me in uploading some pictures? I'm new here and I don't really know how to do it. Could you please do it yourself? I need these pictures uploaded for the following articles:
@Mutaito0321: sorry, no. You're asking for a number of images to be uploaded without any explanation as to why or how they meet Wikipedia:image use policy. It is highly unlikely that any of theses images are public domain images so uploading them would be breaching copyright. Image use and licencing is one of the most difficult topics to understand on Wikipedia and is why new users, like yourself, cannot add images. I'd suggest that for the time being you concentrate on improving the articles you have created as neither of them contain any references to establish why they are notable topics that should be on Wikipedia. Nthep (talk) 21:47, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
If you review the articles that I've mentioned above, the pictures uploaded are really bad ones or there isn't a picture at all! I'm asking to provide better pictures. That's all. Hope you understand what I meant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mutaito0321 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
@Mutaito0321: I understand why you want to upload images but you appear not to have read or understood the image use policy I linked to. Images are not allowed on Wikipedia unless they meet strict licencing conditions and you are not providing any information about how to meet those conditions for each of the images you want uploaded. Nthep (talk) 22:06, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
@Mutaito0321: You want a load of work doing and you want me to do all the work? You explain for every single image you want uploading:
Who created the image?
When was the image created?
Provide a description for the image
Is it a public domain image (and why is it a public domain image)?
If not,
Who is the copyright holder?
Does the copyright holder agree to licence the image under an appropriate licence
If you do that and the information is valid then I'm prepared to upload the images but I am not doing all that work for you. Nthep (talk) 22:32, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
And please stop removing the {{unreferenced}} maintenance tag unless you have dealt with the issue and added some references to the article. References are far more important to improving Wikipedia than adding images. Nthep (talk) 22:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

He can have his 48 hours to justify it else it will be deleted under F7. Looking at the user's talk page he has a problem understanding the image use policy and I suspect English isn't his first language so it's not going to be easy to explain. Nthep (talk) 23:47, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
