Draft: Elizabeth Clark
Nthep.
I believe I have completed the text for the above author. I have removed the reference to a book cover that was a problem. I wonder if the draft can now be moved to Wikipedia. It needs an entry in the disambiguation page for Elizabeth Clark except I'm not sure how to put it there. Could you advise me please I'm suggesting "Elizabeth Clark (1875 - 1972) Children's storyteller, author and lecturer. "
Once this step is finished, could we please discuss again the possibility of including one book cover using NFCC protocol or whatever?Pogga D (talk) 20:51, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Hillary Clinton's margin in the 2016 election
[edit]Please note that Clinton has a 2 hundred thousand lead with all the states at the 99-100% completion level. There are not enough votes out there to close the gap. Trump lost the popular vote and it's been confirmed by the media. Arglebargle79 (talk) 21:52, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- Then there is no harm in waiting until final figures are published and including reliable sources rather than an unsubstantiated number which you know won't be accurate by tomorrow morning. Nthep (talk) 21:55, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Nthep.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help
[edit]Hi Nthep,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
[edit]Hello, Nthep. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
[[1]] What does this refer to? I can't think of any reasons not to warn someone of their block, even if they don't have talk page access. I did see that the user's 2 edits were deleted, so could you please explain this situation? Thanks, Pikachu RP25 18:31, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

User Dunsinan
[edit]I am not a child. You must be imagining. Have a nice day! --Dunsinan (talk) 18:11, 23 November 2016 (UTC) It appears a question of your trust. You have deleted hard thought work and titled it as Advertising, G11. I can't construct a notable work without some experimentalism. I understand the copy paste rules and need an template that won't be as easily deleted. If and when you do remove my work could you provide more constructive criticism? None of the previous editors have.--Dunsinan (talk) 23:00, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Dunsinan: how about we stick with incomprehensible blocks of text, copyright violations from other Wikipedia articles, titles that are meaningless and a general lack of usefulness? If you can't grasp that Wikipedia is not a place to create rubbish and can't limit your 'testing' to your sandbox then Wikipedia isn't the place for you. Nthep (talk) 19:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Just dropping a reminder, but this thread at the Teahouse comes off a bit bitey, and not exactly a paragon of a friendly place to help new editors become accustomed to Wikipedia culture, ask questions, and develop community relationships.
I realize a lot of people have an aversion to hat collecting, leveling up their WP accounts, and contracting barnstaritis, but these are are poor reasons to do anything but encourage new users to to contribute productively, even if they find that motivation in something like an edit drive. That is, after all, part of what these drives are for. TimothyJosephWood 13:22, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Do you know what's going on with this new account? Automatically created with admin privileges, copied your user page almost verbatim (still includes one mention of your username), protected his or her talk page, and made various newbie edits that have had to be undone or deleted (moving an article to a talk page, creating a "Hi, I'm so-and-so" article, created various other pages that have been speedied). Is this a newbie who somehow ended up with admin privileges or an existing admin who has a new account to purposely test bad edits? Meters (talk) 20:05, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, This is my second post on Wikipedia. I am very tech savvy but am having a tough time understanding how things work on this website. I gave an article about an oil company that is in many African nations. Believe you me, its a very difficult task in getting notable information online about this simply because their aren't many sources that give this information even though there are just enough to prove its an existing company. I would like some help on this article, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Royaljama (talk • contribs) 02:17, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Royaljama: hi, I've had a look at the draft article and I have to agree with the previous reviewrs, you haven't given any references that are independent or substantial enough to show that the company is notable. If there isn't more then you might just have to accept that the company isn't notable enough to warrant an article about it. Nthep (talk) 20:16, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation/Wrong Code on Premiership Rugby page
[edit]Hi mate, thanks for the heads up on the disambiguation on those three, normally manage to spot them quickly anyway but you were rapid! What did you mean by "even if its the wrong code" though? If there is a better way I'll happily do that instead I just follow the pre-existing templates!Skeene88 (talk) 12:10, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Joke fell flat - wrong code was a rugby joke, I'm a league fan. I only know about the disambiguation issues on this page as I created the George Ford disambiguation page so every time it gets linked to I get notified and inevitably it's a link that should be pointing to one of the other George Ford's pages. The disambig tools I linked to are really good, Dab Solver especially as it highlights all the possible disambiguations and you just click to choose the one you want. It also allows you to edit the rest of the page at the same time. Nthep (talk) 12:21, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

[edit]You just deleted a page I created. I had not finished it yet, I should have saved it in the sandbox. Is there any way of recovering what you deleted so I can save it in my sandbox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chocolatebareater (talk • contribs) 22:11, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Chocolatebareater: ok restored and moved to a sub-page of yours. However you need to note that as it only contains content found at List of English monarchs and List of British monarchs if it is ever moved to main space again it is highly likely to be deleted as duplicating existing topics. IP 2.28.71.127
[edit]Hi Nthep. Would you mind taking a look at Special:Contributions/2.28.71.127 when you a chance? It seems that the is disagreeing with your close to Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 September 2#File:National Bank of New Zealand logo.svg. This may be the same who participated in the discussion, but not sure. FWIW, I think the close was not In accordance with proper procedure, so I reverted the IPs edits. If, however, you feel more discussion is needed and that my reverts were inappropriate, then please revert back. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:16, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- I have reverted your edits as no consensus was reached at FFD. There is no rationale for treating NBNZ differently to the other entities. 2.28.71.127 (talk) 23:37, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- @2.28.71.127: Reverting the edits of an administrator across the board because you do not agree with his close of an FFD discussion and the engaging in edit warring to re-add the file to various article is really not the way to try and resolve this. When we as editors agree with the close of a WP:XfD discussion, we don't simply have the right to ignore it and do the opposite because we don't like it. There's a way to pursue this as explained in WP:CLOSECHALLENGE, and the thing to do is discuss your concerns with the closing admin before re-adding the file. Your declaration above seems to be basically stating that Nthep, an administrator, did not act properly when he closed the FFD discussion and therefore you refuse to recognize it. That's not really giving Nthep a lot of room to maneuver because you seem more interested in telling others why they are wrong than asking them for clarification. Making demands of other editors is usually not a good way to try and achieve your goals on Wikipedia and not really assuming good faith. My suggestion to you would be to self-revert your edits per WP:STATUSQUO to the point when the files were removed per the FFD discussion and then try and sort things out from there. Doing so is likely to show that the edit warring you engaged in was done in error and that you are here to try and resolve things through discussion.
- Your account just started editing today, yet you show up at a articles which you've never edited before (at least according to the account's edit history) and start reverting an admin over a copyright related matter and then subsequently engaging in edit warring. Perhaps you are not really a complete newbie to Wikipedia and have edited before. If that's the case, you should have some idea as to how things are done here and that we as editors are expected to edit according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:29, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- This FFD too a lot of reading and flicking back and forth between the various pages and quoted sources. When it came to the end I felt that the NFURs for the articles except NBNZ failed break the shackles of WP:NFCC#UUI17. That said I also have doubts about whether the logo was used in the format described by the entities thus not meeting NFCC#8. Links were given in the discussion to trademarks for Lloyds Bank California and Lloyds Bank Canada, neither of which are the logo under discussion and while the annual report for 1977 said "The Black Horse sign is now being progressively introduced throughout the Group as the symbol of our presence in countries across the world" nothing is presented to show that this did indeed happen and that significantly different logos were trademarked in the US and Canada some years later isn't a great indicator that the unilateral branding did happen. If there is verifiable evidence of the use of the logo in these two countries then please add that the the NFURs as it does strengthen the case for their usage. Otherwise if the trademarked images if those were uploaded under separate NFURs then I don't see any objection arising to their use. I don't intend to comment further on this discussion as I acted only in applying policy as I believed it applied. Either of you are entitled to think that my interpretation was incorrect and wrongly applied in which case the next step in to open a deletion review or start a fresh FFD if you cannot find agreement between you. Assist with another deletion of an image please?
[edit]Hi, Nthep, I noticed that you deleted the older image (my original) of Dillinger here: File:Brand_of_Honor_Bucking_Bull_Dillinger_in_the_Pasture.jpg#filelinks I was unable to delete the original image. Someone else had made a change to it to make it a better image to use and created a new image. I have the same problem with this image if you can assist here too? File:Little_Yellow_Jacket_being_ridden_by_Chris_Shivers.jpg If you could delete the original image, much obliged. I will set about learning how to upload more appropriate images in the future. These were my first two. I'm thinking only admins can delete. Thanks and have a great week. :) dawnleelynn(talk) 00:19, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Dawnleelynn: done, although it would have happened soon anyway. There's nothing wrong with the basic images just that when they are uploaded as non-free images the size should be kept fairly small, 1 megapixels or less as a rough guide. So all that has happened here is that a bot account has taken the images you uploaded, reduced them in size and then uploaded the smaller version with a tag to delete the older version a week later. Nthep (talk) 13:59, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
- Nthep, I guess I found the wording slightly confusing then. It sounded like it was asking that the image to be deleted on a certain day but it didn't make it clear who it was asking to do the deletion. Especially when that day came and went and nothing happened. I never saw the word bot used either. But I think I understand now, thanks to your explanation. I will ensure that the images I upload are smaller in size than what you recommended from now on. And if I do run into this situation again, I will know that that it will get deleted, just be patient, LOL. Thanks again. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:19, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
