AfD NASAMS 2
Hi, you did a speedy keep of the NASAMS 2 article, but still no sources WP:V verify how that subject has independent notability to satisfy WP:GNG, the keep criteria for any standalone article. Which sources in that article do you think verify notability since you closed the AfD? Kind regards, AadaamS (talk) 19:37, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- @AadaamS: Your nomination was essentially for a merge, ("It is better as a section in its parent article, not as a standalone. Merge and redirect.") so the discussion qualified for a speedy keep close as per WP:SK#1. The standard way to handle merges is to add merge templates to the page and merge target page, initiate a discussion on the merge target talk page, and take it from there. If you just want the article deleted, I recommend starting a deletion discussion without suggesting a merge. Also, I don't know if you performed source searches prior to nominating for deletion, but it's worthy to note that topic notability is not based upon the state of sourcing in articles, or lack thereof. The wording of the nomination suggests that the nomination may have been based only upon the state of sources in the article. North America1000 21:04, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- Indeed sources were searched for before nominating this AfD. I don't know if you searched for sources before closing the AfD, but if you did, I would be interested in knowing which sources you consider WP:V verify the WP:GNG notability of this subject. There also appears to be no possibility to reword an AfD without closing it? AadaamS (talk) 05:47, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- @AadaamS: I didn't source search for this topic, because it was essentially a sort of procedural close per the nomination being a merge discussion in nature. As worded at the time of closure, it qualified for the speedy keep close. If you'd like to reword the nomination, apparently for deletion instead of merging, feel free to create a new nomination. North America1000 06:43, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll look into a new AfD. You seem to know the AfD rules better than I so I would ask what you think about the speedy keep by user SSTFlyer of this nomination? See here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Serena van der Woodsen (2nd nomination). In my opinion, not one of the responders claimed even the existence of sources to prove notability (that is sources going beyond WP:TRIVIALMENTION). What do you think? I've read in some guideline that consensus cannot override the GNG, though it would appear in this case that it has. Kind regards, AadaamS (talk) 19:52, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000: a ping for good measure. I understand your're a busy editor so I can take "no" for an answer too. Kind regards, AadaamS (talk) 18:40, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- AadaamS I'm going to pass on critiquing the Serena van der Woodsen AfD discussion, other than to denote that the discussion was closed with a "keep" result, rather than with a "speedy keep" result as you have stated above. However, you can discuss the matter with the closer, SSTflyer, if you'd like. Another option is deletion review, but keep in mind that per WP:DELREVD, it is recommended to first discuss matters with the discussion closer. North America1000 03:12, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- Indeed I did contact the non-admin closer, my comment disappeared unanswered along with many other comments when that talk page was archived. That's strange because I can't delete comments on my own talk page. Anyway, you are indeed correct to point out that it wasn't a speedy keep, it was a non-admin close of the AfD. I have contacted the non-admin closer again and await further developments. On principle, does consensus override the GNG? AadaamS (talk) 06:29, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- For a general answer, check out WP:CONLIMITED. North America1000 14:05, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Vista Outdoor
Would you be willing to take a look at the tag on Vista Outdoor? A user that does lot of work at COIN and an IP editor both gave it a good scrubbing and it seems the COI editor who got blocked is no longer active.123.30.137.84 (talk) 14:43, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- I haven't contributed to the article, so it would take me some time to go through all of the revisions to examine what has changed in it. I only have so much time, so I don't forsee myself becoming involved at this time. If you want the {{Coi}} template removed from the article, you can denote changes to the article that qualify the tag's removal on the article's talk page and then remove it. If anyone disagrees with removal of the template, the matter can also be discussed on the article talk page. North America1000 21:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Tamale pie
On 17 July 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tamale pie, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that tamale pie (pictured) was invented in the United States, and has been described as a comfort food? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tamale pie. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Tamale pie), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Template question
Hi, NA1000, I'd like to add a heading at the top of my user page that is similar and/or the same design as the one on Coffee's user page which I really like, provided it would be allowed, but I need to change some of the icons and links. Can you point me in the right direction for designing or utilizing an existing template that would serve my purpose? Thank you in advance....Atsme📞📧 18:11, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Atsme: What, you don't want to rip stuff from my user page? The easy way is to copy content from Coffee's user page to your sandbox, being sure to use proper copy attribution per WP:ATTREQ and then modify it. When you're ready, you can then publish it to your user page, again using proper copy attribution. Easy peasy. North America1000 18:24, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- I probably have ripped stuff from your page in the past. *LOL* I tried looking at it in "edit mode" and the template is {{User:Chetblong/bar|#E0FFFF|#0000FF}} but all the links in the images are his links. I would like to be able to customize it to fit my user page if that's possible. I love the design. Atsme📞📧 19:27, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Atsme: The source code can be accessed directly here. As stated above, just copy the code to your sandbox (with proper copy attribution), modify as you'd like with new images, links, etc. Be sure to immediately remove the administrator and OTRS topicons if you do so, since you're not an admin etc., and again, be sure to use proper copy attribution in all steps. Hope this helps. North America1000 19:48, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you very, very much - I never would have found it. I will also ask his permission because the last thing I would want is for him to be upset over my copying it. Atsme📞📧 20:03, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Deletion
Last year you deleted a bio on an architect and I can only image it was a mistake.
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Andrew_Benn
Clearly the decision was hasty and those commenting on the matter had little or no understanding of the architectural scene in Australia. An AIA Award of any level is considered to be prestigious and the project awarded has received huge coverage not to mention the architect himself.

This article should be recreated and more care should be taken before such bios are deleted. I would appreciate this matter being investigated. Castlemate (talk) 07:32, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Castlemate: I deleted the article based upon consensus that was formed in the deletion discussion at the time. If you feel that the subject meets notability requirements (e.g. WP:BASIC, WP:GNG, WP:CREATIVE), you can create a new article. Some of the articles you posted above are rather short, but the Daily Telegraph article provides significant coverage. Per the sources above, it seems that the subject falls a bit short of WP:BASIC, but per the AIA Award and other accomplishments the subject may have, they may qualify per WP:CREATIVE. If you create a new article, an option is to do so in draft or your user namespace and then submit it to Articles for creation, where your submission can be reviewed by an uninvolved reviewer. An easy way to do this is to place {{Userspace draft}} atop the draft page and then select the "Submit your draft for review" link. North America1000 20:09, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi and thank you for responding. Some of the links are short as they are links to lengthy radio programmes etc ... does nobody investigate this sort of coverage. There may have been consensus amongst three people but no debate and no effort to even look for coverage. Those commenting don't appear to have knowledge of the area on which they were commenting. Why was it not relisted for further discussion? To suggest that I need to go to enormous effort to recreate a bio of a suitably notable architect is I feel rude and arrogant. I don't wish to accuse you of bad faith but a little effort on your behalf and a little contrition might help in this instance. As you deleted the bio I would request that maybe you recreate it and I will improve it if that is necessary. I presume the all powerful with the ability to delete have the power to dredge the system and repair. Thanks for your interest in this issue and help to date. Castlemate (talk) 01:29, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Hope you're having a fun weekend. Noticed you extended the AfD for Kanwal Ameen a while back, then Coffee extended it after you, so on the 20th I requested a close on his TP since it was the 7 day mark. It appears Coffee hasn't been active since the 19th so I was hoping you could close it. It has been 10 days since Coffee's extension and it appears the discussion has dried up. Thanks in advance. @Mudwater: Technical mumbo-jumbo! (Tooltips). Hey man, so what's the deal? Why have you created all of those Grateful Dead articles? Don't you know that those guys suck? (Ha!) Yeah man, like, I wanna get me some grilled cheese and a micro brew in the lot and party on bro! Then listen to the Dead noodling on aimlessly forever at the show! Moreover, musical improvisation sucks, and all music should be performed exactly verbatim and only perfunctory. In case you didn't notice, I'm being sarcastic... What else? I'm shy about personal details on the Wiki, although I do like to communicate with others. This is probably best for me at this point, to avoid hassles at customs. North America1000 14:42, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Do you know why the number of page views on the article went from a few hundred a day to more than 16,000 on July 29th? — Mudwater (Talk) 06:37, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Mudwater: Not sure. Could be an error in the Pageviews Analysis, could be some script someone wrote to constantly ping the page, or none of the above. If there were a National street food day, that would potentially explain it, but no such event appears to exist. North America1000 06:40, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- Maybe! Or maybe the article got linked to that day, from somewhere on the internet. Like a news story, or a celebrity's social networking post. Anyway, it's pretty cool. — Mudwater (Talk) 00:58, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
I'd encourage you to chime in at Talk:List of street foods#Regions. Don't worry about agreeing or disagreeing with me. What we need is an open-minded discussion about how the article can be most useful to our readers. — Mudwater (Talk) 23:16, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

- (talk page watcher) @Papaursa: The discussion was unintentionally removed from the AfD log on 7 July 2016. I have relisted the discussion. — JJMC89 (T·C) 20:35, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
- I would have thought the outcome was pretty clear-cut and relisting was not needed. Papaursa (talk) 22:46, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
- Sometimes AfD discussions do not receive a great deal of input. I may not become involved in this discussion, nor in its closure. North America1000 22:13, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- That, of course, is your prerogative. I posted here since you were the one who relisted the discussion and because I thought a 4-0 vote for deletion would be sufficient. Papaursa (talk) 02:29, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Recent changes
- In notifications, the icon for Notices has been changed from a speech-bubble icon () to a tray icon () for consistency. The Alerts icon has been redesigned too. The colors have been changed for accessibility. [10]
Problems
- If you use the wikEd gadget, changes you made were not kept when you switched from the wikitext editor to the visual editor while you were editing. This has now been fixed. [11]
Changes this week
- Wikimedia search will now ignore question marks at the end of the sentences or words you use when you search. Until now the question mark was just a wildcard. [12]
- On Commons, UploadWizard will now be available on mobile, rather than just the old upload form. This should reduce the workload for the community in reviewing images. [13]
- When you edit with the visual editor a puzzle symbol tells you there is an invisible template in the article. It will now mention the name of the template. [14]
- The button to read something in another language will move for mobile users. This will happen on 9 August. [15]
- When someone mentions you and links to your user page you get a notification. You will now get a notification when you mention yourself this way. [16]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 August. It will be on all wikis from 11 August (calendar).
- A message on Notifications panel will invite users to try Special:Notifications page. [17]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on August 9 at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Disambiguation link notification for August 9
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Skullcap Crew, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tactical unit. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WP:FOOD newsletter collaboration
May I help out with the newsletter? I have some ideas for it, and I can help with the mass messaging. Thanks, -- The Pancakeof Heaven! 06:52, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- @The Pancake of Heaven!: Absolutely. It's pretty easy to devise, too, using the Newsletter template. North America1000 21:51, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000:: Thanks! But how do I see how many stubs, GA articles, featured list articles, etc. that the task force has? -- The Pancakeof Heaven! 23:28, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- @The Pancake of Heaven!: Check this out: Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/assessment infobox. North America1000 23:31, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000:: If you're busy, should I send out this month's newsletter? When should I normally send it out? -- The Pancakeof Heaven! 03:22, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- @The Pancake of Heaven!: I have access to mass message sending, which makes sending easy compared to manually adding the notice to each user talk page. Have you devised the new newsletter? North America1000 03:29, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000: Oh. I was planning on requesting the mass mailing on WT:MMS. I'll work on the newsletter if I have time. But when should the newsletter be sent out? At the end of the month or the start? Thanks :) -- The Pancakeof Heaven! 03:33, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- @The Pancake of Heaven!: It doesn't really matter when it's sent out, in my opinion, as long as the month it is sent out in is within the title of the newsletter. So, if sending out sometime in August, you should name it as Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Newsletter August 2016 North America1000 03:40, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Northamerica1000: Thank you for the guidience :) -- The Pancakeof Heaven! 03:42, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Delsort
Hello NA. Via my daily peek in CAT:AFD/U, I came to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Remembrance (EP) that you had delsorted. Just thought I'd let you know that since mid May, Enterprisey's delsort.js has supported both delsorting and Afd categorizing. Best, Sam Sailor Talk! 08:28, 2 August 2016 (UTC) P.S. Send you a mail the other day, nothing urgent.
- Ahoy Sam Sailor! Thanks for the info. I have been using User:Fox Wilson/delsort for awhile. I may look further into delsort.js at some time. Regarding email, I don't check it much, and prefer to communicate on Wiki, to keep matters as simple as possible. In the future when emailing, please be sure to notify me here using a {{You've got mail}} template. North America1000 12:39, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Problems
- Last week Tech News announced you will get a notification when you mention yourself the same way as if someone else had mentioned you. This caused some problems and will happen later instead. [18]
- Creating and editing links to sections on other pages on the wiki now works again in the visual editor. [19]
- For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. This will be fixed soon. [20][21]
Changes this week
- The login session when you choose "Keep me logged in" will now last a year. Previously it was 30 days. This will happen on August 16. [22]
- Some abuse filters will have to be updated during the week. This is because a bug will be fixed. [23]
- In compact language links, two new kinds of languages will be shown in the shorter language list: Languages that are used in the article's text, and languages where the article has a badge like "featured article" or "good article". [24][25]
- The visual editor will be available by default for logged-out editors on Wikipedias that use the Arabic script. It is already default for logged-in editors. [26]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 16. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 17. It will be on all wikis from August 18 (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on August 16 at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Starting the week of August 22 there will be three software deployment windows. They will be at 13:00, 18:00, and 23:00 UTC. This is to have more times when software of the wikis can be updated and make it easier for developers in different parts of the world. [27]

AfD for "Amantes Invisibles"
Hi Northamerica1000, thanks for relisting the AfD for the above article. One question for you or any of the other editors monitoring the deletion processes: why doesn't the AfD appear in the deletion discussions for "Albums and songs" and "Music", even though I added the necessary substitution templates to add them to those categories? Did I mess something up? Richard3120 (talk) 03:52, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Richard3120: The entries have to be physically listed at the respective delsort pages; adding the templates to the deletion discussion alone does not perform this. I have added the entries to these delsort pages for you (diff, diff). North America1000 01:55, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you, I didn't realise that. Many thanks. Richard3120 (talk) 16:19, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Time stamp for bot to properly relist
What does the "time stamp" thing do? Is there a substed template that creates that stamp easily? Deryck C. 20:53, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Deryck Chan: For whatever reasons, Legobot undoes relisted entries that don't have this markup, placing them back to the Old business section. Ricky81682 brought this matter to my attention after I queried about the matter, whereby using the time stamp prevents the bot from undoing relistings. I'm not aware of a substituted template that covers this at this time. North America1000 00:38, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- Does Legobot also automatically relist items that have this extra timestamp? Deryck C. 14:24, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- Legobot relists everyhing based on the first time stamp it sees. Thus we have the put the notice there or else it will follow the nomination's time stamp alone and sort it in the July date. This prevents the MFD listing from being a complete headache and the relistings ignored. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:09, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The ORES review tool is now available on Special:Contributions as a beta feature. It can make it easier to find contributions that are probably damaging the wikis. The ORES review tool is available on Wikidata and Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish and Russian Wikipedia. [29]
- The
norm
andccnorm
functions have been updated to make it easier to write abuse filters. This also affects the TitleBlacklist extension. You don't have to transform "I" and "L" to "1", "O" to "0" and "S" to "5" anymore. [30] - The old pageview data in the "pagecounts-raw" and "pagecounts-all-sites" files is no longer being updated. You can find the new pageview data here. This happened on August 5. [31]
Problems
- Some big image files could not be thumbnailed. This has now been fixed. [32]
- When you moved a page over a redirect it would delete the redirect without saving it in the logs. This has now been fixed. [33]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 23 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 24 August. It will be on all wikis from 25 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 23 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Sometimes when you mention another user they don't get a notification. You will be able to get a notification when you successfully sent out a mention to someone or be told if they did not get a notification. This will be opt-in. You can test this on the test wiki. [34][35]
- How you add text after an edit conflict might work in a different way in the future. You can test the prototype. [36]
