Stuff
Hi Gerald
- If I understand the request on your user page correctly, you are looking for editors to interview for an article on The Signpost. In which case I volunteer; I do not consider myself to be a newbie.
- If you have not found it already, can I commend GoCE Rquests to you. A fine place to get articles ready for GAN or even FAC.
- You may, or may not, find this reflective essay on my first year of being active on Wikipedia of interest.
Cheers
Gog the Mild (talk) 21:11, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Gog the Mild, sorry for the wait. Yes, I'm still looking for non-newbies to be interviewed. The topic is on the treatment towards IPs, newbies, and vandals by expert editors. I made that draft to look into this problem, see whether many now-experts have experienced harsh treatment before, and try explore how people, even as bad as vandals, can be useful for the project. I hope you're fine with this topic. The question I would like to ask are:
- Did you started out as an IP or vandal?
- Did you receive harsh treatment from experienced editors during your first days?
- How did you feel when receiving harsh treatment?
- Do you think personal attacks improve the integrity of an editor?
- What is your stance on personal attacks, as well as attacks towards IPs, newbies, and vandals?
- And if you don't mind, I would like to quote parts of your essay.
- Hope you can answer at least some of it. I may ask some more stuff later following your answers if you don't mind. And thanks for the GOCE request! Regards, GeraldWL 04:13, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Gerald Waldo Luis, email sent. Note, for the avoidance of doubt, that re GOCE I only sent you the link, I have not made any request. Gog the Mild (talk) 01:50, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Bear Witness, Take Action
Thanks for taking the time to engage in the discussion on the DNR. It was good to work things out in a conversation. I really appreciate it if you're able to make the update today, since a lot of people are going to look at the Wikipedia article (the event is tomorrow) and I don't want them getting misleading information. I'm not making any direct edits due to my COI. Thanks!Oceans87 (talk) 17:33, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oceans87, that's a much more civil discussion than I expected. Thanks for it! I'll be sure to edit it soon. GeraldWL 17:38, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of 2 Hours Doing Nothing

Your GA nomination of 2 Hours Doing Nothing
The article 2 Hours Doing Nothing you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:2 Hours Doing Nothing for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. - Some Dude From North Carolina, thanks for the review! GeraldWL 02:58, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Cuties talk page
Thank you for archiving. But please don't change the banner layout without discussing. Sundayclose (talk) 19:49, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Sundayclose, I was just tryna make it less cluttered. Considering there's already the top warning, I think a (Notcensored) banner is not needed. What do you think? GeraldWL 07:37, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- I just removed the notcensored banner. Otherwise I think it should stay as it is. I understand that you're trying to declutter. My objection is that you made such a major change without discussion. Sundayclose (talk) 15:30, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Luis can you help me review this GA nom. I would review any article that you gave me for this tks. Regards, Jeromi Mikhael (marhata) 14:57, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Jeromi Mikhael, you may just refer me with my first name. And sure, I'll try! GeraldWL 14:59, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah tks. Sorry for the tone I rarely interact with users as I'm editing a very-very-very niche topic that almost no one wants to touch (Juxlos once dip in into the topic and he never came back). Regardless thanks for the response. Regards, Jeromi Mikhael (marhata) 15:03, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Too many GOCE requests
You currently have three copy-editing requests posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. The limit is two per requester, as explained at the top of the page. Can you please remove one of your requests? You can submit them later, once one of the remaining two are done. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:51, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Jonesey95, there is now only two active request: the MFS2020 article and Ave Maryam article. The 2HDN request is declined. GeraldWL 07:03, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
2 Hours Doing Nothing
Hello:
Your copy edit request at the Guild of Copy edits has been declined as you already have two other outstanding copy edit requests. You may have up to two open requests at any one time. This is enforced so that every request can have a fair chance of being fulfilled within a reasonable period.
You are free to resubmit this request when one of your other requests is completed.

Thank you
Thank you for your reply on the Teahouse. I don’t have much experience with the markup editor to thank you there, so I wanted to still be kind and thank you on your talk page. LunarLOL (talk) 12:32, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- LunarLOL, everything's fine.Everyone here starts with no experience, you just gotta live with it and do more edits, I'm sure you'll gain more experience. If you need any assistance don't hesitate to ask me here! GeraldWL 12:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, see, I forgot to press Space between "fine" and "Everyone." You always learn new things on Wikipedia, trust me, the policies are goddamn lot. GeraldWL 12:39, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Cool Userpage
You have a cool user page, had fun reading it. You seem very mature.SenatorLEVI (talk) 12:51, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- SenatorLEVI, thanks! I started the page with some scratches with some userboxes, then evolved it to larger ones. The more you get familiar with the project, the more you'll have the willingness to modify it. All about time. GeraldWL 13:33, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- You're welcome, looks like I'll do that too.SenatorLEVI (talk) 15:22, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
clarification
The removed sentence, in my opinion, is one of the most damaging thing vandals can do to Wikipedia, which is being very subtle with their actions, wandering in the nebulous area between good faith and bad faith with the sole purpose of masking their ill-intentions, thus making it very difficult to deal with. Dealing with this kind of vandalism is often very time consuming and sometimes even emotionally consuming for the many Wikipedians who actually care about Wikipedia. The motivations or agenda of the vandal can vary, but a good case scenario is that the vandal is just a high school kid messing around.[a] And you do not want to feed this kid with ideas! Let's not tell them what is a good way to waste Wikipedians time. Hence the WP:BEANS.
If you're thinking I'm overthinking... yes, I might be. But it wouldn't hurt to try. Feelthhis (talk) 13:04, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Feelthhis, I think we must treat as if we're not Wikipedians. I think the current paragraph describes decently what are types of vandalism, and I don't think we're necessarily feeding that kid with ideas (as someone in high school I have never seen HS students bothering themselves with WP, but whatever). It's like Methods of suicide-- we're just giving available information, not actually encouraging people to end their lives. I think WP:BEANS refers to off-mainspace talks and not applying on the mainspace. GeraldWL 13:22, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Notes
- ^ If you think about it, considering the wide range of subjects covered in Wikipedia and the amount of visitors worldwide, the vandals actions can be very damaging. For example: ill-intended edits to Medical or Religious articles. So for worst case scenario basically the sky is the limit.
Comment draft
Hi, you recently commented on the draft of "Major Adil Farooq Raja(Retd)", I created. You asked about the battle named "War Above The Clouds". Yes that's the name of the battle which is also called Siachen Conflict. This war was fought on glaciers of Siachen between Pakistan and India. Details are available even on wiki itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanglaKing (talk • contribs) 15:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

- Jeromi Mikhael, I don't usually seek payment, but I have one article awaiting GA review. See if you can try reviewing it. GeraldWL 16:27, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

- @Gerald Waldo Luis: I'll have to watch it to check for the plot's accuracy :) Regards, Jeromi Mikhael (marhata) 16:37, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Jeromi Mikhael, I watched the unsubtitled version + the film is Javanese, so at times I just have to guess what they're talking. I'm sure there are many mistakes. Awaiting your linguistic expertise. GeraldWL 16:40, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
