Locator map
Hi there,
I've quickly drawn up a provisional locator map for the Azad Kashmir articles.
Let me know what you think, if you support it, I'll put the code together for the template.
Kind regards
--RaviC (talk) 15:07, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hello RaviC! A map like we have for Indian Jammu and Kashmir is preferable. See this image, the Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir is in this colour and Pakistani Kashmir is in this colour, so we can reverse them to make a location map for Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan articles. Faizan 15:19, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Done. Hope you like it! --RaviC (talk) 16:35, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- You are a good image editor. But where is Indian Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan? Just modidy image by reversing the colors. The image used for ICK has both Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, so the image to be used for Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir ought to have ICK too. The best way will be to reverse the color codes I gave above. Faizan 17:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Build the image considering this one and not this one. I am sending you a link please wait! Faizan 17:15, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

- Desired image for Gilgit Baltistan [1]
- Desired image for Azad Kashmir [2].Upload them in svj format! Faizan 17:28, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- We need to show both of the Indian Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistani Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, as the Kashmir conflict still exists and has yet to be solved. The fate of the Kashmir region is yet to be determined. Faizan 17:32, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi there, I agree with you on that point, and I can make SVG versions of that map if you wish. But they will be missing the district boundaries, which was why I picked the other map as a base.
- If you don't mind that, then I can make the maps using the requested image per your request. --RaviC (talk) 17:35, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. Sorry for the late reply, but I had no internet supply for two hours due to electricity power cuts. No one owns the Wikipedia, the matters are decided by mutual friendly discussions. I was thinking of using an online converter like this one, but if you can manually convert, then you should do that! Faizan 17:40, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Your comment is quite confusing to me. But regarding the map, it's much better to create an image manually as the quality is much better. As a result, I've made this one manually. What do you think? --RaviC (talk) 18:10, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- The image is good Ravi, but some improvements can be made at the boundaries! The darker color spreads into the boundary at some instances, some amendments can be made. Faizan 18:14, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Just noticed that. I'll fix that now and make the template code. --RaviC (talk) 18:18, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- I accidentally included the Shaksgam Valley in the Gilgit Baltistan map as a part of it, so make sure it's shown as a separate territory(having dark grey color like that of China), like you did in Azad Kashmir map. Faizan 18:52, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Don't worry, I didn't add it to Gilgit Baltistan. You can view the templates at Module:Location map/data/Azad Kashmir and Module:Location map/data/Gilgit Baltistan.. I've added them to a few; feel free to add them to any other relevant articles. --RaviC (talk) 18:57, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Good work overall, but you have made mistake as far as the colors are concerned. See the newly developed location maps of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. You used the same color for Indian Jammu and Kashmir and the Azad Kashmir in location map of Gilgit Baltistan; and used the same color for Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan in location map of Azad Kashmir. I know this was not deliberate but, that shows Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan as part of India in the respective cases. Please use totally grey color Here's the colour code: #E0E0E0 . I think that the mistake was mine, as I did not take these things into account while uploading the sample images above. These are the fresh links: Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. You are a good map maker, amend these colors soon as possible. Faizan 06:25, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Just noticed that. I'll fix that now and make the template code. --RaviC (talk) 18:18, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll see if I have any spare time this evening to do it. --RaviC (talk) 08:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, I have updated the image links for Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. You can take help from them. When the maps are developed, reinsert them into the articles. Regards. Faizan 08:15, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Take care about the boundary markings especially. The colors should not diffuse into or out of the boundary. Good Luck. Faizan 08:16, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Recent message regarding edits.
Hello, Faizan.
Recently, I was sent a message about edits made under my IP address. I am positive that the edits were made by a disabled younger sibling of mine, unwitting of her actions. I have checked several of the pages on my page that have apparently been edited and you may want to check over them, in case of further vandalism.
Keep fighting the good fight.
Thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.22.57 (talk • contribs)

VisualEditor global newsletter—June 2014
Did you know?
The VisualEditor team is mostly working to fix bugs, improve performance, reduce technical debt, and other infrastructure needs. You can find on Mediawiki.org weekly updates detailing recent work.
- They have moved the "Keyboard shortcuts" link out of the "Page options" menu, into the "Help" menu. Within dialog boxes, buttons are now more accessible (via the Tab key) from the keyboard.
- You can now see the target of the link when you click on it, without having to open the inspector.
- The team also expanded TemplateData: You can now add a parameter type "
date"
for dates and times in the ISO 8601 format, and "boolean"
for values which are true or false. Also, templates that redirect to other templates (like{{citeweb}}
→{{cite web}}
) now get the TemplateData of their target (bug 50964). You can test TemplateData by editing mw:Template:Sandbox/doc. - Category: and File: pages now display their contents correctly after saving an edit (bug 65349, bug 64239)
- They have also improved reference editing: You should no longer be able to add empty citations with VisualEditor (bug 64715), as with references. When you edit a reference, you can now empty it and click the "use an existing reference" button to replace it with another reference instead.
- It is now possible to edit inline images with VisualEditor. Remember that inline images cannot display captions, so existing captions get removed. Many other bugs related to images were also fixed.
- You can now add and edit
{{DISPLAYTITLE}}
and__DISAMBIG__
in the "Page options" menu, rounding out the full set of page options currently planned. - The tool to insert special characters is now wider and simpler.
Looking ahead
The VisualEditor team has posted a draft of their goals for the next fiscal year. You can read them and suggest changes on MediaWiki.org.
The team posts details about planned work on VisualEditor's roadmap. You will soon be able to drag-and-drop text as well as images. If you drag an image to a new place, it won't let you place it in the middle of a paragraph. All dialog boxes and windows will be simplified based on user testing and feedback. The VisualEditor team plans to add autofill features for citations. Your ideas about making referencing quick and easy are still wanted. Support for upright image sizes is being developed. The designers are also working on support for viewing and editing hidden HTML comments and adding rows and columns to tables.

HEY
HEY FAIZAN, I am new editor. I've some questions. What is this twinkle? How can I use it? How can I have a userpage like u? Are u a Sunni Muslim? Are you from Bangladesh or Pakistan? Reply me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115ash (talk • contribs) 10:56, 25 June 2014 (UTC) Another question, how can I have wiki signature like you? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115ash (talk • contribs) 11:01, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, Welcome to Wikipedia! You should sign your messages(which includes a signature and time at which you messaged) by including "~~~~" after your message. Twinkle is a very useful tool, by the help of which we can save our time, and perform many tasks easily, for example: reversion, reporting, warning, welcoming users, tagging articles, etc. You can enable it in gadgets tab of your preferences, in the "Browsing" section. For more info regarding its usage, see WP:TW. There are many other useful tools besides it. You can have a user-page like mine by considering the source code of my user-page, and putting it into your user-page. Regarding signature, it can also be changed in your preferences. For a signature like this one: 115ash, you can copy this code "<span style="border:2px solid #000;background:#000">[[User:115ash|<span style="color:#fff;">115</span>]][[User Talk:115ash|<span style="color:#0f0">ash</span>]]</span>" into the signature's box, and you will have to tick in the box of "Treat the above as wiki markup." next to the signature box. I am an agnostic, and am from Pakistan. Feel free to contact me next time, in case of further assistance. Faizan 17:27, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
AWB
[3] --NE2 04:36, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- There was a grammatical error in the article, there should be no "a" between phrasal verb of "cross over". AWB made it change to "an", which was also erroneous. Faizan 05:47, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing it, anyway. Faizan 08:45, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Operation Zarb-e-Azb
I think you've done a great job on the article! I think it might help to have these two quotes cited: In the Preparations section, quote beginning "on the directions of the gov...." and in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement section quote by MQM head Altaf Hussain. Those seem to be important quotes but have no reference. Otherwise I think it's very good work! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhodesisland (talk • contribs) 09:14, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Zarb-e-Azb Casuaties: Perhaps the numbers given by the military should be listed as "military claim" rather than as facts, since they are from a biased source.
E.g. 277 killed (military claim as of 21 June)
Or else the phrase "ISPR said" which is used in the 16 June section could be used more widely.
What do you think? Sailfish2 (talk) 01:31, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
- Why biased? There is no harm in mentioning that these figures are official. Faizan 15:29, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
- The discussion regarding this also took place at the article's talk, have a look there. Faizan 15:49, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

I just looked at the Reliable Sources page WP:SOURCE and it says "Base articles on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." and WP:THIRDPARTY says "A third-party source is one that is entirely independent of the subject being covered" - the ISPR is obviously not independent of the subject. The "Official Sources" label satisfies me, but ISPR fails WP:THIRDPARTY. Sailfish2 (talk) 08:14, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 June newsletter
After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.
The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Sven Manguard (submissions).
The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! - Hi, you created article on Tomb of Tharo Khan but this site is not yet listed in List of cultural heritage sites in Sindh. Instead the site is included in "Chitorri Graveyard" entry. Do you think we should merge this "Tomb of Tharo Khan" article with Chitorri article or leave it as it is? There're many tombs in Chitorri graveyard but very little information about those tombs available online/offline so it can make difficult to use to rest assure which tombs belongs to whom. --139.190.143.231 (talk) 11:13, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

WLM Scope
Hi Faizan, just a note: expanding existing articles is outside the scope. We are aiming at a particular set of objectives; create new articles and expand the region-wise lists. It would be great if you can chose a particular region, say Gilgit Baltistan and add new sites + information about existing sites. Just to explain: these lists constitute the actual repository of the sites in Pakistan. Let me know if you have any questions. Samar Talk 21:03, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your contributions Faizan. --139.190.143.231 (talk) 21:14, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. This is the revision before my modification, It says in the forth column of the table: "Number of sites expanded". Now, the "sites" are to be understood as "articles", because the "lists" cannot be called as "sites". That ought to be: "Number of lists expanded". Anyway, thanks for fixing the error. Faizan 08:45, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- @IP, thanks dear! I was disappointed because you did not sign up. :) Faizan 08:45, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I think that the "Note" below the table still needs the update. Faizan 08:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- And a question, for example, if I work on the "Gilgit Baltistan list", will my count in the column 4 increase by 1 only when I will have expanded all the articles on the G.B. list? Faizan 09:01, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Sites were meant to represent the entries in the lists. But hope the confusion is now clear, just in case read the scope again. And no, working on one list does not mean your count will be 1, please note we are referring to "entries" or "sites" in the lists. For example, I am working on Islamabad Capital Territory list (not part of the competition), I have added over 40 new sites/entries. My count will be 40. In addition to that I have also expanded (i.e provided addresses, coordinates, categories etc.) to the eight pre-exisiting sites, so in total I have 48 count.
- To be honest the measure is not perfect, but I was not willing to count the total number of edits because users tend to add a comma or remove a space in a single edit and count that as well, in the end their contribution is minor. This way we know exactly the number of articles created and the number of entries added/expanded, whether you do it in 100 edits or 10,000 is irrelevant. Hope the confusion is clear now, still let me know if you have any other question. Samar Talk 10:27, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

- And a question, for example, if I work on the "Gilgit Baltistan list", will my count in the column 4 increase by 1 only when I will have expanded all the articles on the G.B. list? Faizan 09:01, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I think that the "Note" below the table still needs the update. Faizan 08:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Sliding Doors plot
The reason for the edit was mainly because the sentence did not make sense in the context of the film Sliding Doors grammatically. What actually happens is that Gwyneth Paltrow's character misses the train and the alternative path is that she conversely caught the train. In your description you have made out that she catches the train in the first instance and then the film depicts her life if she didn't catch the train. In the end she dies if she caught the train whereas she does not if she didn't catch the train showing that what actually happened in her life was more beneficial for her in the long run since she bumps into John Hanmah's character at the end despite not catching him on the train. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjfb94 (talk • contribs) 10:33, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia! You are talking about this edit? Next time, it would be much helpful to others if you give a brief edit summary, But no problem, you are a new editor! If the catching of train, in the end, is beneficial, then my regrets over the revert. I have self-reverted. Faizan 13:06, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Need help
Hi Faizan
i have created many articles regarding sports federations of pakistan and a template of sports federations in pakistan. Currently i am improving them by adding infobox. The reviewer of these articles Pakistan Orienteering Association and Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation has added link rot, Please tell me how to deal with this
Sulaimandaud (talk) 19:00, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. A bare URL has no title, no date, no content, and if it becomes dead, then the context is no more verifiable. I use this script for dealing with bare URLs. By this I can manually fill in the references. Or else you can use this automated tool!. I archive web URLs using webcitation, if a URL is archived, no matter if it becomes dead, the archived URL still remains there, and link rot is prevented. I have fixed the sources in both articles here and here respectively. Faizan 08:29, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a lot bro Sulaimandaud (talk) 09:37, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Hello brother
Hi faizan i need help in another issue
Equestrian Federation of Pakistan the only national body approved Pakistan Olympic association, Pakistan sports board and International Federation for Equestrian Sports. All links are in refs
Some one has created this page and only facebook refs are given Equestrian & Tent Pegging Federation of Pakistan
what to do with this?
Thanks in advance
Sulaimandaud (talk) 19:52, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. The article Equestrian & Tent Pegging Federation of Pakistan was created two months earlier. The two organizations ought to be the same, but they have different presidents. After a bit of search, I found that the Equestrian & Tent Pegging Federation of Pakistan is covered by secondary sources too like this one. I found that both of them have officials belonging to the Army. For example, the chairman of Equestrian & Tent Pegging Federation of Pakistan is a Major General; and the President and Secretary General of Equestrian Federation of Pakistan are Major General and Lt. Col. respectively. So I am a little bit confused. I have been hearing news of conflicts between sports federations in country, especially Squash. This maybe the same case, and if it's, both of the organizations can have their articles, provided they are both notable and are covered by secondary sources, per WP:ORG, otherwise they be nominated for deletion. But if the organizations are the same, then the latter(article created by you) should be redirected to the former. Faizan 13:42, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Ok thanks

Locator maps
Hi there,
Sorry I hadn't had time to update the maps. The last few weeks have been very busy.
I've updated them as per your request now. Unfortunately, there is a flaw; maps were designed for the Wikiproject India, and the author has placed all other countries, such as China, Afghanistan and Pakistan on the map as the same object (background).
So without redrawing the entire layer, which would take some time and precision (maybe something I can look into in a few weeks time), I can't change the colour of Pakistan alone (without also changing the colour of the other countries).
I hope that the resulting maps are a reasonable compromise, however.
Kind regards
--RaviC (talk) 10:33, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. Compromise cannot be made here, when you get more time, update them and then they would be ready to be used in the articles. Faizan 10:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- That's fine. It's going to be a month at minimum, I'm afraid. --RaviC (talk) 10:50, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- You just have to change the colour of Pakistan; links for Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. Why the colour of Pakistan alone cannot be changed? Faizan 10:55, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- And the colour of the Siachin needs to be like the link too. Faizan 10:56, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- If only it were so simple. Vector graphics (such as SVG files) work very differently to raster graphics (such as JPEG files). They are composed of geometric lines and shapes instead of pixels. The person who made the original file made all of the countries, apart from India as one big 'background' shape (since it was only going to be used in Indian articles, presumably). Thus, when I change the colour of Pakistan, it also changes the colour of Afghanistan and China. What I need to do, to colour Pakistan in is to remove the original vector layer, and redraw Pakistan by hand as a separate shape. I'll change the colour of Siachen now though. --RaviC (talk) 13:06, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Good Luck, though! Faizan 13:08, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Faizan, Ravi is right that it take some time to fix this particular map since this map was not properly drawn but I want to tell you that during my schooldays, I learnt some basic cartography and since then I'm somewhat fond of maps. I've fixed the maps for you so Please have a look at the both maps and let me know if I can further improve the both maps. Anyway, I actually came here to speak regarding on-going edit drive and thus noticed these maps issue too. Honestly speaking, I'm very discouraged and disappointed to see that only you're actively participating in the edit drive. Samar had sent edit drive invitation to some 600+ Pakistani Wikipedians but its awful that no one responded positively except you and Farhan. So, I'm here to ask you a favor please. I really admire your work and your efforts that you putting into edit drive but would it be possible for you to first create articles on most important sites such as tentative UNESCO sites and national monuments? All UNESCO sites and national monuments sites I'm referring to are marked green in colour in each lists so hope you will have no issue in identifying them. I would say you start from Punjab list and start articles. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks! --139.190.143.231 (talk) 18:38, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- The maps look good to me. Thanks for improving them, Saqib was the uploader right? Only one issue still exists, RaviC amended the colour of Siachin and drew some grey bands, but these bands do not extend to the whole Siachin glacier and to its border, seeing the link can help. Sure, I will start with Punjab list and will concentrate on the most important sites, relatively. Regards. Faizan 05:19, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry for late response Faizan. I just noticed you replied. Sure I will fix the issues having with maps but I'm not getting your point. Siachen boundary on both of the maps that I modified and on the link you provided looks same to me. --139.190.143.231 (talk) 21:52, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Doubling of articles
Sorry dude disturbing u again but this just came into my attention
Both articles are of same person. Since he served as PM I think this issue should be resolved quickly

- Hi Sulaiman, I am not disturbed, feel free here. I tagged the duplicating article for speedy deletion under A10 and as soon as it gets deleted, we need to "move" VJ Feroze Khan to the proper name of the politician "Feroz Khan Noon". Faizan 08:11, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
