Question from Langlistoris (11:23, 26 August 2024)

Hey there! I'm new around here, and I'm wondering how to add 'title/main' pictures to wiki pages as many don't seem to have one. --Langlistoris (talk) 11:23, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Langlistoris, could you provide an example of the sort of article you are hoping to add images to? I'm not quite sure what you mean. Happy to help where I can. Eddie891 Talk Work 11:53, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
Of course! I mean pages like Premios texas that have no display image and only a default 'image not found' graphic. Langlistoris (talk) 12:05, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 August newsletter

The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:

Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 36 featured articles, 55 featured lists, 15 good articles, 93 in the news credits, and at least 333 did you know credits. They have conducted 357 featured content reviews, as well as 553 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 30 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed during Round 5, which starts on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. If two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether for a good article, featured content, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Remember to claim your points within 14 days of earning them, and importantly, before the deadline on 31 October.

If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Question from MoKhan123 (11:57, 3 September 2024)

how do you create a new page for a footballer --MoKhan123 (talk) 11:57, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, @MoKhan123. The first step would be to make sure that the footballer meets WP:NFOOTY or WP:NSPORT more broadly, the criteria set for 'Notability', meaning that they can have an article (not everyone can). Eddie891 Talk Work 00:41, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Paralost13 (18:03, 4 September 2024)

Hi,

My one and only edit can be seen here:

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Adaptations_of_The_Most_Dangerous_Game

 I added "Apocalypto".
I was somehow able to cite a film and director, but couldnt figure out how to cite it.
I have another small contribution to make. This time I need to add the category "In Popular Culture" then make an entry.
Is there a "Wikipedia Editing for Dummies" type of resource You can suggest? Right now I only need to know how to do these very basic things.

Thank you for any help ......alon --Paralost13 (talk) 18:03, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, @Paralost13, I'd recommend first looking at something like the wikipedia adventure, an interactive way to learn the basics. Probably the easiest way to learn how to edit, though, is just by trying, not being afraid to make mistakes, and asking questions! It's a super friendly group, generally, and everyone is happy to help. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 19:21, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

Hello Eddie891:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from Nyemwang W Konyak (12:22, 5 October 2024)

Hello mentor,

kindly guide me on how ‘I can create my own Wikipedia ‘ page and keep editing of other contents as well.

What are the Benefits of editing others contents or self? --Nyemwang W Konyak (talk) 12:22, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Nyemwang W Konyak, the first step to creating a Wikipedia page is figuring out what you want to write your article about. It needs to be on a topic that is notable, meaning it has received substantial coverage in reliable sources (such as newspaper profiles or books). Once you have done that, the process is actually fairly easy. You can use the articles for creation process to draft your article, and get a user to review it! Happy to answer any other questions that may come up. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 15:25, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
I want to write about myself . How can k proceed? Nyemwang (talk) 16:56, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Well, it isn't really recommended to write an autobiographical article, so I'd definitely advise against it. If you intend to edit topics you are connected to, I'd first make sure you have a read-through of the guide to managing a conflict of interest, and be completely transparent about what you're doing. Question from CC-Berenice (15:14, 21 October 2024)

Good evening, it is my first time here in the English Wikipedia (I normally use the Italian Wikipedia). I was reading different pages to understand how to it works here and I have some questions.

- I want to create a new page. This page has an Italian version (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittorio_Emanuele_Falsitta) and I want to create the English page. I will be paid to create the English version, so I read the page about COI and, if I understood correctly, I have to note the COI using a template, making a statement in the edit summary or on my user page. Since I can choose, I am going to do on my user page: is there a particular formula or sentence that I have to use or I just have to write who pays me and who commissions the work? Also, did I understood correctly or I have to disclose the COI in other pages too? Is it better I write about the COI when I save my changes too?

- Since the page I want to create is new, do I have to send you something to be approved or I create the page and then wait for a control before/after publishing? Thank you so much for your help! Berenice --CC-Berenice (talk) 15:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi @CC-Berenice, since you are paid you should go through the articles for creation process. You should disclose your COI on every page you edit that you have a COI with. I'll leave a message with some links on your talk page that may be helpful. Eddie891 Talk Work 15:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

I am not writing an article about myself, sorry for the confusion. Instead, I will be writing an article about a company which does have published media material and articles written about them. Typically what is the process like for this situation? I have been practising editing on other articles to become auto-confirmed. How long will it take for my article to become accepted once I publish it, currently I am making a draft in my sandbox.
I appreciate any insight you've got James Feely6 (talk) 17:03, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi @James Feely6, thanks for the clarification. It's hard to say, if the topic is clearly notable, I would say that it should be reviewed within a few weeks. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:39, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
