Your edit here was not in line with Wikipedia policy and convention. When you are reverted your next step is to take the issue to the article talk page, or appropriate notice board, to determine consensus (see WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle and WP:Consensus). To persist in reverting to one's preferred version in an article is considered edit warring (see WP:Edit warring and WP:Three revert rule). I'll watch list this page in the event you have any questions. Tiderolls 18:12, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative and historical names for places

[edit]

Hi, I saw you removed Turkish, Bulgarian and (North-)Macedonian names from articles about places in northern Greece, for instance Ano Vrontou. I think these names are at least historically significant, so they belong in these articles, see also MOS:LEADALT. I will revert these edits. If you think there's a good reason not to include a certain name, let me know and we can discuss it. Markussep Talk 18:12, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

February 2020

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Jingiby (talk) 15:56, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I see that you have started a mass deletion of alternative non-Greek names of settlements in Greece. At the same time, you started adding alternative names in Greek language to settlements in other countries. I don't think this is a balanced and neutral approach and in line with Wikipedia's policies. Please familiarize yourself with these policies above and stop this destructive practice immediately. I have reverted your disruptions. Thank you. Jingiby (talk) 19:14, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jingiby Hello. In the past, I had tried to add some Greek place names to some villages in Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria that are related to Greek history because in the past the Greek population lived in these villages. However, a user had told me that historical reasons are not a sufficient reason to add a place name. So, I used to remove some Bulgarian place names from villages in the prefecture of Serres in Greece, and yesterday I removed Bulgarian and Turkish place names from the Greek prefecture of Evros. Today, I removed place names from the Greek Prefecture of Evros. Because I'm a little confused, I want to ask you if historical reasons are enough to add a place name. I will be very grateful if you answer me!! BILL1 (talk) 21:42, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jingiby Ok, I have now been informed, it is true that the mistake was mine. However, I'm not sure if the village of Ormenio and some other villages in the area have a Turkish or Bulgarian past. BILL1 (talk) 00:02, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, all villages in border areas usually have different names in the languages common in the countries around. The Greek prefecture of Evros was officially part of Bulgaria between the Balkan wars and after the WWI and was until then part of the Ottoman Empire. Jingiby (talk) 03:10, 29 June 2020 (UTC

Jingiby Almost all of present-day Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire. Also, almost all of northern Greece was part of Bulgaria. Are you sure we should add Turkish and Bulgarian place names in these areas, without any special connection of each village with the Turkish or Bulgarian history? BILL1 (talk) 13:51, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, many villages in these areas had only Slavic or Turkish names, even as part from Greece these names were still used as official names, until their governmental change in 1927. They were inhabited with Slavic and Turkish population - partially or entirely, and some of them still are. These people still use these names and they are also in use in Bulgaria and Turkey, respectively. Regards. Jingiby (talk) 15:31, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"People from" categorisation

[edit]

I have noticed that you recently changed the categorisation of some Greek biographies. An example would be Sakis Anastasiadis, which you added to the "People from Lefkonas" category. The article right now only mentions the city of Serres, however from my experience there is a significant chance that the linked article is wrong, and it's supposed to be referring to Serres (regional unit), in which case an origin from Lefkonas could be consistent with the article's body. If you have information about a person's origin which isn't included in their Wikipedia article, you should also edit the article's body and add relevant sources, apart from adding categories. This would be compliant with Wikipedia's policy and ensure that your contributions don't get reverted. --Antondimak (talk) 09:59, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

BILL1 (talk) 23:24, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bill, if you have sources then you should cite them with your edit. Please understand that Wikipedia can not be used as a source due to its open source model. While communication in other languages is not prohibited it's discouraged because it's antithetical to the project's collaborative goals. Tiderolls 01:34, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
--Antondimak (talk) 10:56, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop vandalising the Cypriot Greek article

[edit]

It can be trivially verified that Cypriot Greek does not have official status in Cyprus, the extent to which SMG is used and the form it takes in education and media is subject to debate and the speakers' ethnicity is best described as Greek Cypriot. Wikipedia is not the place for you to advance your nationalist beliefs. 83.168.54.153 (talk) 12:56, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel I see that the user who has been vandalizing non-stop for a month is aggressive. Can you help me with this problem? BILL1 (talk) 13:31, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Will you at any point stop restoring FALSE information? 31.153.42.153 (talk) 08:02, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel the same vandalism. BILL1 (talk) 13:20, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bill in which article? Greek Rebel (talk) 13:40, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel in Cypriot Greek dialect. BILL1 (talk) 13:42, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel the blank in the page of Cypriot Greek dialect indicates ethnicity, so the correct term is "Greeks". BILL1 (talk) 14:07, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BILL1 (Greek) Cypriots are an ethic group, belonging in the larger Greek family. That's why in Greek-Cypriot they call us "Ελλαδίτες" (Greeks), while when they refer to the larger family of Greeks which includes them also they call us "Έλληνες". Greek Rebel (talk) 14:12, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel Ok, but the term "ethnicity" refers to ancestry. For example, Joe Biden has Irish ethnicity. BILL1 (talk) 14:20, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bill, to help you, ethnicity is our "εθνικότητα" while ancestry ("καταγωγή") is what you are referred. If the article of Biden writes that his ethnicity is Irish, it's completely wrong he is an American with Irish ancestry. Also please help me at the article of the Turkish language, it seems that Taksim propagandists have power here. Greek Rebel (talk) 14:24, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel I am sorry but ethnicity is the "εθνότητα". It's checked, you can see it in Google translate. BILL1 (talk) 14:28, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@BILL1: Oh yes you are right (about "εθνότητα" not about Biden). But Cypriot ethnicity does not exist? Greek Rebel (talk) 14:38, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Greek Rebel: I think the English Wikipedia defines ethnicity differently than the Greek Wikipedia. It is confusion. BILL1 (talk) 14:51, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish language

[edit]

Please help me! We need to do something. These users, obviously Taksim propagandists, reverse me with the excuse that "the status of Northern Cyprus is described at its link". This is obviously wrong. The fact that Northern Cyprus is not an actual state need to be explained EVERY TIME that it's mentioned at the link. The most propagandist part is "Turkish is the official language of Turkey and Northern Cyprus", while Cyprus is not mentioned as a country that has Turkish as official language. So it's like they tell us that Cyprus is referring to the greek-southern part of the island... We need to do something! Greek Rebel (talk) 18:47, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
