Five Pillars of Wikipedia
Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.
There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 05:20, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Minor Edits
[edit]Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'." Chris Snelling
[edit]So which is it? First you change Snelling from Australian to American, commenting that he was born in the USA (which is true), then change it back, commenting that he is considered a native Australian (how can where you are born be disputable?). It seems to me that players are listed by their place of birth, even if that is not where they grew up (see Edwin Jackson.) I am actually curious to know the guidelines for this, if there are any.

List of Ivy League championships
[edit]A tag has been placed on List of Ivy League championships, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 05:09, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Seeking community input re standardizing baseball roster pages
[edit]Hi ... I'm leaving you this note because you recently made edits to one of the Major League Baseball roster pages. Orphaned non-free image (Image:CBJ 43.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CBJ 43.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. fuzzy510 02:26, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Braves roster
[edit]Corky Miller has been purchased from AAA to take Saltalamacchia's place as backup catcher. Therefore, Dotel and Teixeira would make 27 men on the 25-man roster, so we have to wait until room is cleared for them.►Chris Nelson 20:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Edit summaries
[edit]I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! --Sanfranman59 18:24, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Doh286! You recently added to the wikiarticle on Russ Adams that he had signed a minor league agreement with the New York Mets. While I am glad that he is with the National League, where I always thought he should have been instead of having had his career destroyed by Ricciardi and the Toronto Blue Jays, the addition of this information requires a verifiable reference/citation. Do you have the source for the info that you added? If so, please add it as a footnote to the article, or provide the data here and I will add it to the article for you. If you want to do it yourself, and are unsure of how to do it, take a look at WP:REFBEGIN. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 00:18, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Impersonating?
[edit]Hi, can you explain why you are impersonating my signature here? If you can't be creative, then use the standard signature. Also, it seems to me that you are signing manually (seems that you have never signed at Wikipedia). The UTC time you wrote is totally incorrect. To sign automatically, use ~~~~. HeyMid (contributions) 18:05, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for that. I am new to discussing things on Wikipedia. I usually contribute but do not discuss things. Doh286 (talk) 18:09, 10 October 2010 (UTC).
I did not know it was wrong to do this. I will use the standard signature for now on. Doh286 (talk) 18:12, 10 October 2010 (UTC).
- OK. But didn't you understand at first that such behavior is irritating? Also, I believe it's not nice to steal others' signatures, just because you didn't know how to sign automatically. At Special:Preferences you can design your own signature :). HeyMid (contributions) 18:14, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Acquired?
[edit]Hi. About New Jersey's roster; Josefson was Djurgården's player during the 2009-10 season, he did not belong to New Jersey. He signed a contract with New Jersey on May 14, 2010 and was therefore acquired by the club, but not before May 14, 2010. Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 18:37, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again. Could you please explain to me why you think Josefson was acquired by NJD in 2009 without having signed any contract with the club? Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 19:00, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
He was drafted by New Jersey in the 2009 NHL player draft. Doh286 (talk) 19:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, but how does that mean that he was acquired by NJD? He still had a contract with Djurgården at the time. He first signed with NJD in 2010, so I don't understand your reasoning. Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 19:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hello again. Please, explain to me why the draft matters when he didn't sign anything until May 14, 2010? It would be like saying that Tedenby was acquired in 2008 when he actually played with HV71 for two more seasons, and didn't join NJD until May 14, 2010. Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 20:38, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Just an FYI Tooga, WP:Hockey considered the acquired box to be when the NHL club acquired his rights. Therefore, if Josefson was drafted in the 2009 Entry Draft, the Devils acquired him in 2009. The fact he was still playing for Djurgardens is inconsequential, as he was then a Devils prospect. Unfortunately, for European hockey fans, WP:Hockey considers the NHL to be the top league in the world. Thus, when the Devils draft a player, regardless of when he signs a contract he is considered Devils' property as of the draft. Playing in Europe simply means that he is a prospect for that team. Most CHL players don't sign contracts for nearly a year after they are drafted. Most NCAA don't sign for 4 years after they are drafted. This doesn't mean that the player is any less of a NHL prospect simply because he is unsigned. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 23:56, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Wow, that's screwed up. Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 11:12, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- No, it is just like the NHL drafts players from juniors: kid gets drafted in 2008, does not sign a contract until 2009 and does not play in NHL until 2011; still listed as 2008. Think it as being named to a team's reserve or protected list: no other NHL team claim/sign him until he is released from that team's listRaul17 (talk) 00:25, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Is Fraser on the Devils' Injured Reserve list? I see him listed as a scratch on the NHL Gameday roster since he's been injured, but Salvador nor Rolston appears on the roster list. Raul17 (talk) 00:25, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I know that he is injured but I do not believe he is on injured reserve. Doh286 (talk) 00:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 1
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Switzerland national football team, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ireland national football team (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
