- @John from Idegon: The tone of the draft could be altered, but Luton Today is an established news source in the Bedfordshire area; I feel other similar institutions, even in the same area, have articles in the mainspace despite receiving a smaller amount of significant coverage (e.g. the Stella Mann College of Performing Arts, which I assume is able to remain on the mainspace thanks to some brief coverage on one BBC News article, though admittedly that is a more reputed source than Luton Today). - @M-Mustapha: May I ask how the sources provided don't satisfy WP:GNG or WP:BASIC? Various aspects of the subject's life and career are covered at length in the provided sources; the content in the draft is referenced to info provided by the sources' authors prior to the interviews with the subject, rather than from info provided by the subject herself (per WP:INTERVIEW). Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 16:47, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- OK! Please if I may ask you, which of the GNG and Basic criteria did the article subject pass? that made her worthy of encyclopedic. Em-mustapha talk 19:45, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- @M-Mustapha: All the references besides refs 1, 6, and 8 (which are used to simply establish her association with the Child's Rights Advocacy Journal, Birkbeck University of London and Come Dine with Me respectively) are secondary sources that provide significant coverage and are independent of the subject. The sources are all published by established news organisations in Nigeria (and London, in the case of the Newham Recorder). Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 21:58, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- This is my question,
which of the GNG and Basic criteria did the article subject pass?
And regarding your claim of significant coverage I still don't see the subject covered significantly in reliable sources. Em-mustapha talk 09:31, 25 August 2020 (UTC)- @M-Mustapha: As far as I'm concerned, all the criteria have been satisfied by the subject. According to WP:GNG, "significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." The sources provided in the draft apart from refs 1, 6 and 8 as previously mentioned all provide significant coverage per the aforementioned definition, and info referenced to the interviews (refs 2, 3 and 5) is drawn from secondary sources as outlined at WP:INTERVIEW. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 11:31, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- I don't think significant coverage is enough with less than 10 sources and most of them are not Reliable, You also claim WP:Basic in your argument, tell me how the subject pass the criteria. Please I just want you to judge your article yourself, if you are satisfied then resubmit your draft and another editor will review it. Em-mustapha talk 19:18, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

AfC notification: Draft:Justin Picard has a new comment
- @Timtrent: I dropped six of the citations and left in what I felt were the most comprehensive sources for that statement. Kindly have another look. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 11:10, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Timtrent: On another note, the specific criteria notes at WP:ACADEMIC also state that:
Criterion 1 can also be satisfied if the person has pioneered or developed a significant new concept, technique or idea, made a significant discovery or solved a major problem in their academic discipline. In this case it is necessary to explicitly demonstrate, by a substantial number of references to academic publications of researchers other than the person in question, that this contribution is indeed widely considered to be significant and is widely attributed to the person in question.
- With this in mind, the 11 citations as previously included in the draft were perhaps needed, so that introduces some confusion on my part when you mention WP:CITEKILL. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 11:23, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

- I try only to make one review, either by comment or by formal review. My review today would be very similar to my prior comment. While you have reduced the citekill I stil see it present. You need a different reviewer. They are likely, though, to have the same opinion. You may wish to look at WP:BOMBARD Fiddle Faddle 07:14, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Timtrent: I've gone through the draft again and done my best to minimise the citekill—while still maintaining what I feel are the most comprehensive sources—to at most three references per statement as advised earlier. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 08:37, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- If the 'spare' references contain other facts, use them to write those facts and cite them. You will produce a better aticle that way. There is little point in even three, though most folk seem to like it Fiddle Faddle 10:25, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Timtrent: None of the "spare" refs contain other facts other than the ones asserted in the draft. In instances where multiple refs are used for one statement, those refs are used to verify the subject's invention of the copy detection pattern (CDP) following advice at the specific criteria notes at WP:ACADEMIC as previously illustrated, or verifying examples given of uses of CDP technology (e.g. "it was used to protect FIFA badges at the 2006 World Cup, and by pharmaceutical manufacturers to restrict illicit trade in medicine"). - @Celestina007: Could you provide some detail on your comment? As far as I can tell, multiple sources in the draft give detailed information on various aspects of the subject's life and career. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 18:44, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Davykamanzi, I believe GNG is not met nor any criterion from WP:JOURNALIST, if you think otherwise you may re-submit the article. I should however let you know that doing minimal or no substantial work pertaining to what I have pointed out would mean your article would still be declined. Celestina007 (talk) 19:14, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
AfC notification: Draft:Justin Picard has a further new comment
- @Timtrent: I trimmed out the content providing information on the copy detection pattern and limited it to just the first statement attributing Mr Picard as the inventor. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 20:32, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Do not stop improving the draft while awaiting review. The best process is the following:
- seek out references about Picard
- from those references selective facts, additional facts, you wish to assert
- create a storyboard from those facts
- Write (or rewrite) the draft based upon the storyboard, using your references in a rifle targeted manner as citations for those deleted facts
- In this way you create a draft that is hard to challenge in terms of referencing and facts. The only thing then standing in the way of acceptance is whether those facts are genuinely notable. This tends to be proven with three substantial references in major WP:RS which are significant coverage about Picard. A respected scientific journal, respected computing journal, respected national newspaper.
- I think you have worked hard and done a good job. I will not make a formal review because I have helped you sufficiently to have become involved with the draft. My work is to teach you to fish, not to throw you a fish. Whether you and I have been successful is in the hands of the next reviewer(s). Fiddle Faddle 21:48, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
