Direct paid editing in mainspace

H DavyKamanzi. I work on conflict of interest issues along with my regular editing.

I appreciate that you are disclosing your paid edits on the talk pages of relevant articles. However per the COI guideline you should not be directly editing in mainspace on behalf of your clients. For instance you directly created Curve (payment card) in mainspace. I have moved it to Draft:Curve (payment card) and tagged it for AfC review.

Conflict of interest management in Wikipedia has two steps -- disclosure and prior review.

What "prior review" means concretely, is:

a) if you want to create an article relevant to a COI you have, create the article as a draft through the WP:AFC process, disclose your COI on the Talk page with the Template:Connected contributor (paid) tag, and then submit the draft article for review so it can be reviewed before it publishes; and
b) And if you want to change content in any existing article on a topic where you have a COI, we ask you to
(i) disclose at the Talk page of the article with the Template:Connected contributor (paid) tag, putting it at the bottom of the beige box at the top of the page; and
(ii) propose content on the Talk page for others to review and implement before it goes live, instead of doing it directly yourself. Just open a new section, put the proposed content there, and just below the header (at the top of the editing window) please the {{request edit}} tag to flag it for other editors to review. In general it should be relatively short so that it is not too much review at once. Sometimes editors propose complete rewrites, providing a link to their sandbox for example. This is OK to do but please be aware that it is lot more for volunteers to process and will probably take longer.

By following those "peer review" processes, editors with a COI can contribute where they have a COI, and the integrity of WP can be protected. We get some great contributions that way, when conflicted editors take the time to understand what kinds of proposals are OK under the content policies. (There are good faith paid editors here, who have signed and follow the Wikipedia:Statement on Wikipedia from participating communications firms, and there are "black hat" paid editors here who lie about what they do and really harm Wikipedia).

Will you please do this going forward? Jytdog (talk) 15:47, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

I saw that you did this, acknowledging the draftification, but please reply here on the general process. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:47, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
@Jytdog: I try to maintain a certain level of integrity with my paid edits but I'll keep this in mind going forward. Thanks. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 17:55, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your note. In Wikipedia it is entirely possible to be a paid editor with integrity. That means submitting paid edits with complete disclosure for review prior to their being published. And making sure that you try as hard as you can to make sure the content and your behavior each meet the highest standards here. This is because paid editing is tolerated not loved, and likewise paid editors. Does that make sense and will you agree to submit all your paid edits for review instead of publishing them yourself? Jytdog (talk) 18:02, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
@Jytdog: I don't mean to be a pain, but the AfC process is extremely backlogged at the moment and every time I log onto Wikipedia the number of unreviewed drafts increases. Since your last message here I've done all my paid articles by the book and had them go through AfC but it's incredibly hard to get a job done when no reviewer seems willing to fulfil their role. I currently have 3 drafts awaiting review and one of them (Draft:Armaan Zorace) has been in waiting for over 8 weeks. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 14:40, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Disclosures

Hi Davykamanzi. The PAID policy says that you need to disclose your employer (who paid you), the client, and any other affiliation for each set of paid edits you make.

You are not quite doing this.

For example at Draft:Curve (payment card) you disclosed that you were paid by "Callum McCaig". I googled him and he is the PR guy for Curve.

So.. really, did he pay you out of his personal bank account, or is/has the company itself paying you?

Also, it is not clear if you work for some kind of PR or digital marketing agency yourself, or if you are a freelancer. If you are freelancer, we look for disclosure of the means by which you found the client - did you use Upwork, Freelancer, or the like?

Those are all real questions. Please do answer them.

The purpose of the disclosure is to understand the relationship. Does that make sense? (also a real question) Best regards Jytdog (talk) 17:52, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

@Jytdog: As you've discovered that McCaig is Curve's PR guy (I didn't bother looking him up myself) then he is probably paying me on behalf of the company. As for the second question, I'm a freelancer on Upwork. I don't work for any PR or marketing agencies. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 17:56, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, but that is too casual. The disclosure is important and shrugging answers like this are not sustainable... Will you please make sure that you understand who your employer actually is, and disclose that, and the affiliation as well, going forward? Jytdog (talk) 18:04, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Who is paying for Brilliant Earth (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) edits? Thanks. --MarioGom (talk) 12:03, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Note

The stuff above may feel intrusive to you but my goal here is to make sure that you understand what we expect of you, so that you can do it. If you don't understand and do the wrong things (or if you do understand and ignore what you should) you are going to get into trouble and the rest of us are going to have spend time dealing with that trouble. Good for nobody. So that is what I am up to, here....

I don't know how much you understand about the background of paid editing in Wikipedia - the context in which you are working. If you don't please have a look at User:Jytdog#NPOV_part_2:_COI_and_advocacy_in_Wikipedia and also Wikipedia:Statement on Wikipedia from participating communications firms. I don't know if those folks welcome freelancers but you should consider signing up there. Jytdog (talk) 18:04, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Tekken images

Please avoid uploading large size images to the Tekken articles. Wikipedia itself tends to resize the images and make a short version of all of them. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 16:09, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Yeah that was the plan. I'm never quite sure the acceptable size for an image to be according to WP:NFCC so I just let Wikipedia do it for me. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 18:38, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Has an article you worked on been nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.

Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Kazuya Mishima

Two friends did a bit copy-edit (my weak point since English is not my first language) while also leaving it in the Guild of Copy Editors. User:Davykamanzi - I do not normally follow a draft through the approval process and do not normally re-review a draft for paid editors. If you think that I made a mistake in my review, you may ask other editors for their opinions at the Teahouse. However, some of the sources that you provided are in the nature of press releases, published by third parties but based on information provided by the company. If you think that I made a mistake in my review and that a stand-alone article is mandatory for the company (as opposed to mention in the article about the parent company), ask for advice at the Teahouse. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Davykamanzi. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
