Question from Grahamval (00:18, 8 December 2024)

Hi, How do I create an article, please? --Grahamval (talk) 00:18, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Grahamval Good day. Pls read WP:Your first article for instructions. In a nutshell, a page will only be accepted by Wikipedia if the subject has significant coverage by indepndent, reliable sources (such as from the books or major newspapers) where by the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mentioned for verification. No copyright violation in the article and the article needs to be written in neutral point of view. I strongly suggest you to take eWP:TWA short program to understand the some of the basic of Wikipedia guidelines before attempt to write an article. Stay safe and best. English

Hi Cassiopeia, thanks for your AIV report. I personally found the discussion with the reported user painful to read because of internet slang abbreviations ("Pls" everywhere) and bad English ("You have received [a] final warning", "not all source[d] info [needs] to be elabrate[d] to such exten[t]" et cetera). If this is a matter of effort invested into writing, please do invest more of it to avoid confusion and to improve the impression your messages have on new users. Most newcomers will take your messages, especially if they're warnings, as a representation of the community or the administration. You are the voice of Wikipedia to these people. It should at least not be full of "Pls". ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

ToBeFree I understand where you coming from but when an editor lied about they took TWA yet their violated the Wikipedia guidelines in their edits and that is not a good faith edits. I will always help editors who want to learn or understand Wikipedia guidelines. I doubt in this case words such as please will make any different of their edits nor approach want to know more (I provide TWA links). However, thank you for your outreach and and message. I know 4 languages and English is my third language but master of none. Just to let you know that I have mild condition of Irlen syndrome - see here for I see more white space with and some texts disappear to the background. I know this is my problems and I have no qualms for anyone points out or corrects the grammatical mistakes I made in Wikipedia. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 23:35, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that condition! The use of "pls" (which appears to be independent of this) made me incorrectly assume that all of the language was affected by a lack of effort rather than something out of your control, which I'm sorry to have criticized you for. I think reducing the use of such abbreviations (if there are more) or specifically not abbreviating "please" to "pls" would already help a lot.
Regarding good or bad faith, I'm not entirely sure. The user does seem to have tried The Wikipedia Adventure, resulting in an automated message to themselves on their talk page. They didn't do much more than having a look, I guess, as that would cause far more of these contributions and lead to the creation of user subpages (yet there are none). So when they say "I removed the TWA program messages cause I already went through with it", that does appear to be factually incorrect. They are probably not aware that this can be checked easily. But instead of interpreting this as bad faith, can we perhaps assume that the user is simply not interested in this entirely optional space-game-themed tutorial? I tried TWA too and didn't go beyond creating a single page either. I didn't even edit that page. When I learned about TWA, it was far "too late", if you like, for playing with it, and I was afraid it could even look unprofessional and have an impact on the adminship I already thought about applying for. I can also understand if a new user is uninterested in it and dismisses your invitation with a rather harmless lie to avoid a discussion about their legitimate choice.
If the user (whom I think we should ping as a courtesy) continues editing disruptively, WP:ANI would be a good place to report this, or even WP:ANEW if it results in them edit warring against more than one disagreeing editor. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:04, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
@ToBeFree and Songsten: ToBeFree, Dont worry, I am the one who has the syndrome and it is my problems as I have delt with that since I was a child, in school, in university and at work for I lost many opportunities of being promoted or advance in anything that need me to write eloquently. It is what it is. Here is the background: There is an editor kept on adding NPOV content and when their were warned and told/discussion on the article talk page the stopped editing but IP addresses doing the same things after that and resulted the article is protected for one year. Then this editor (Songstern) joined Wikipedia after the article is protected, adding back the non NPOV content just like the said editor and IP editors and also edited in boxing related pages. I see same patterns but can not IP check them and I see them not addressing the issues and asking questions which I have already addressed and they did not read the provided guidelines and lied about TWA that they said they have taken the program and yet had edited unsourced content, removed sourced content and added NPOV content prior. Not wanting to do optional TWA or do not know the Wikipedia guidelines is one thing, lying about it and lying after proved they didnt take TWA and state "I dont know what happened" it is another - for that is the "intention" we are talking about. Intentional lying can not considered a good faith here. I have informed the editor to go to the article talk page if they disagree with the content added/removal. We might see a little different here but I understand your intentions and you come here in good-will.
Songsten, The admin decided not to block you and give you an benefit of doubt for you are new to Wikipedia. So (1) Please read the basic Wikipedia guidelines if you want to be a constructive editor and do not want to get blocked. (2) If you dont want to do the TWA then pls click on the links which provided to you on the "Welcome message" on your talk page. (3) One very important guidelines here is verification which is the core policy of Wikipedia. The editor who change/add the content need to provide the source (independent, reliable sources such as from the newspapers or books) - see WP:PROVEIT. (4) Go to the article talk page if you have any disagree of the content and discuss civilly and do not change the article until consensus is reached. (5) Be civil and polite when talk to other editor. (6) Ask questions if you have any and if guidelines (highlighted texts) are provided and read them. Cassiopeia talk 00:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Cassiopeia you have to do a better job communicating with new users to Wikipedia. Cause you have not a good job communicating with me, which has painted a bad picture of Wikipedia community in my mind. But it's okay cause I'm willing to give a second chance. Good luck. Also why did you lie saying I removed sourced content and added unsourced content. And it was you who removed sourced content telling me that not all sourced info need to be elabrated to such extent. And I have not violated the Wikipedia guidelines in my edits, so you don't need to lie to get your point across. And I was not lying when I said, I tried The Wikipedia Adventure, as you can see it resulted in an automated message on my talk page. I had a look and wasn't getting much info cause I was on my phone when I tried it and the words weren't displaying on screen clearly. So frustrated I removed it. But I'm quite disappointed that you reported me based on that. But it seems like English is your third language and you have mild condition of Irlen syndrome, and guess what English is also my third language as well. So I can understand maybe we got off on the wrong footing. But I hope we can get long better.Songsten (talk) 02:58, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
@ToBeFree and Songsten: Even with what you said "not good at communicating" with you, there are plenty of warnings messages which not written by me and all the Wikipedia guidelines links which provided for you if you read them to understand the issues/what to do/explanations which you did not. As I have mentioned to you not all sourced content should be in the article for Wikipedia is not a book, newspapers, magazines especially what you added in is non-WP:NPOV which I have mentioned to you several times and link was provided. If you disagree then go to the talk page. I suggest you to edit constructively here on, read the guidelines provided and ask for assistance/questions if needed and not continuing the edits that violate Wikipedia guidelines if needed and not continuing the edits that violate Wikipedia guidelines if you want to continue editing Wikipedia pages. Cassiopeia talk 03:14, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
@ToBeFree and Songsten: If you want to do TWA, do it on laptop or desktop or click on "Introduction" link on the "Welcome message" on your talk page - you will find some important Wikipedia guidelines. If you want to learn editing constructively and communicate politely, not only me are happy to help you but all experienced Wikipedians will also welcome your outreach but you have to take on their advice and "READ" the provided guidelines and adhere to them when editing. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 03:32, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Thank you and I will try TWA on a desktop. And all the best to you as well. Songsten (talk) 03:38, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
@ToBeFree and Songsten: Thank you for communicating and be safe. Cassiopeia talk 03:39, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

https://tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in/tmrpublicsearch/ Baalaguru (talk) 09:38, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Baalaguru Good day. Pls note that you need to provide independent, reliable source such as from the newspapers or books. The source you provided is from gov and it is considered not reliable. All social media, government, private companies, education sites are considered not reliable and/or not independent. Pls find source from books or newspaper to support your claim for verification. You can use Template:Cite web and WP:Cite book for inline citation if the source is from web and book respectively. Thank you Cassiopeia talk 09:51, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Baalaguru (talk) 09:55, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Why "pls" directly in the section below the discussion about it? :( I guess it's a habit, but you could at least change that one. Well, perhaps if at least one other person agrees that "pls" looks strange. You don't have to change your writing style just because one person complains. Ask anyone you trust. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:56, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
ToBeFree Thank you for the outreach. I dont know that is a guidelines in Wikipedia indicates not to abbreviations the word for it might not be right or polite or formal way of talking to other editors. If there is a guideline then pls forward me the link. It might look strange to you to see "pls" and I dont have a single complaint about my "pls" in writing at work of all the years working in the multinational corporation (MNC) in the regional office in emails or text messages (not in proper documents of course). However, I understand if might not be formal enough for some ppl not to see the full spelling of certain words. Have a good day ToBeFree. Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 22:37, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Complaints about such things are rare because people are nice. :) "Pls" and "ppl" look unprofessional to me and would even be too informal for e-mail conversation with well-known colleagues to me. There is (probably) no Wikipedia guideline about this, but especially the word "please", used to ask others to do things, should generally be written without a visible lack of effort as a matter of respect. You're communicating with colleagues, not chatting in an online game. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:50, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
ToBeFree Maybe it is the company culture thing, working in a regional position, I have to work with colleagues from Europe, MENA (Middle East North Africa) and Asia Pacific, they typed "pls" in their emails to me too. I dont think all the top executives, directors, vice president, president of the business units who I have to work with in my company would care about being nice to me if they want to tell me off that I use abbreviations in internal emails to other collogues. MY collogues and bosses would care that I finish the work/project/bid on time because they company will loss a lot of money if we miss the date line. To say all that, I understand your intention and I agree it is more professional or formal if abbreviations are not used. Thank you that you take time to communicate with me and stay safe. New pages patrol school

Hi, I see that you are listed as a trainer at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School, and wanted to ask if you are currently accepting students. If so, I would like to apply to become your student. I have a decent amount of experience fighting vandalism and tagging articles for improvement and would like to assist in tacking the backlog of new articles to be reviewed. All the best, Grumpylawnchair (talk) 03:23, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Grumpylawnchair Good day and thank you for being interested in NPPS. The NPPS program is complex and comprehensive and it consists of 10 assignments and 1 final exam for such it will require some of your free time to work on the assignments. There will be Wikipedia guidelines/links (reading material) provided which you need to read before working on the assignments. Most participants would take about 3 months to complete the program, however, there is no deadline as you work on the program on your own pace. Please let me know if you are still interested after reading the info above and if so, then let me know so I will set up the program for you. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:45, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
I am still interested, thank you. Grumpylawnchair (talk) 15:02, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

2024 UFC awards

Hello, thank you for putting the 2024 UFC.com awards on the "2024 in UFC" page. However, I do not think we need to put the rankings of #2-10 for each fighter's page. These awards have existed since 2008 or earlier and on the fighter's pages, only the winner is listed. I will go ahead and remove the #2-10 for the fighters. It is not relevant to put the #2-10 ranked UFC.com awards for each year, for each fighter. Usually, the winner of awards are put on the fighter's page. Please let me know if you have any questions. Happy Holidays. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:44, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Marty2Hotty If you want to remove the "ranked # X" on fighters' pages for UFC.com 2024 awards, feel free to do so. Best and stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 08:48, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
Marty2Hotty Pls do not remove the award info on the fighters pages but the ranked. Cassiopeia talk 08:50, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
I will not remove the #1 award winners, but we do not need to include #2-10. I only added #1 for the past 15+ years. It is not necessary to include 2-10 for all awards related to MMA. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:54, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
@Marty2Hotty and HeinzMaster: Marty, No do NOT remove them. We put the #strikes, no of submission, POTN and etc and this is UFC.com awards are very significat awards and that need to be included. I missed read your message of removing ranked info above. I dont think we should remove them at all. Cassiopeia talk 09:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
Are you going to add ranks 2-10 for years 2006 to 2023. I have the sources. Is it necessary? Let's wait for other senior editors to decide. Jon Jones will have 10 years of many of these awards, if so. Only the winner has been put. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:13, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
See Alex Pereira. If you include his runner up awards, he has a lot, so I created a section for UFC.com Awards and sorted by year. Thoughts? Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
You are making too many typos. Please stop.
We separate awards by "|" not ",". One exception was Islam where he had three awards against Dustin, so I added "vs. Dustin" once instead of three times.
You also are making a lot of space mistakes and repeating years unnecessarily. Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:56, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Marty2Hotty All mistakes by you or me have been corrected by either one of us. Again, making typos is not against the guidelines, you can choose to correct it and not but dont complaint if you choose to correct it. There are many editors' interests and bots are just correcting typos and copy edits. I feel like you might not like it when I had informed you in the past that you were not adhere to the guidelines (I have sent the Wikipedia links guidelines to you many times which you didnt adhere for very long time - guess you dont read them in the past and btw they are not written by me) or disagreed with you on certain editing things which make you constantly telling me about my typos and grammars mistakes which is not in violation of any guidelines. However, when we collaborated, pls dont ask me if I would do something then say it is a joke for this is not a social media planform but we are building encyclopedia project. I hope Have a good Christmas and happy New Year. Cassiopeia talk 02:08, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Your lack of English didn't understand the "kidding" part. It meant that it was unreasonable to add ranked awards dating back to 2008. It was a rhetorical question that you did not understand. You are not specific about the guidelines. I am telling you to check your edits because you are an established editor. You can easily click "preview" because you are capable of not making so many mistakes. Have a good day. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:24, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Marty2Hotty No, you asked if I would do it, and I answered yes. Then you said it was a joke. It was not a rhetorical question (you asked me twice)! Please don’t do that again. Don’t correct any of my typos (let the bot do it) or mistakes and then come here to complain so many times in one message thread on your talk page. You don’t need to do all that, as we are all just volunteers here. Cassiopeia talk 02:34, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
