New page patrol school

Hello @Cassiopeia, I have noticed the growing backlog in New pages patrol and would like to apply for New page reviewer rights. Before submitting my application, I would appreciate training in this subject. My primary focus has been on improving existing articles through copyediting and adding verifiable references to those lacking sources. Additionally, I have created articles to support mainspace pages and highlight specific subjects independently. I would be obliged if you could kindly assist me in gaining the necessary knowledge and training in this area. Please let me know if you would be willing to help. Thank you. QEnigma Good day and thank you for interested in joining he NPPS. I understand you have joined Wikipedia long time ago but only active in the last few month. Pls complete the WP:TWA short program first (60 min) so you may familiar with some of the Wikipedia fundamental guidelines for NPPS program is comprehensive and complex. You will require to spend time on answering the assignments' questions and reading the guidelines. There is no time frame on completing the program but most participants took about 3 months to finish the program. First of all, pls note that for a subject to have a page in Wikipedia, the subject needs to pass Wikipedia WP:GNG criteria which means the subject needs to have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources where by the subject is talked about in depth and in length and not merely passing mentioned for verification. Pls read Help:Your first article to understand in more detail on how to write an article and also pls transfer your content to "Draft" space instead of your sub page - see Wikipedia:Drafts. To add inline citation - pls see Template:Cite web and Template:Cite book for sources from the web and books respectively. (note you need to provide the page number for books source). Your source here-1 is just the info of the book which does not support the content of your draft article and your second source - here-2 is only partially state the poem (primary source) - we need secondary reliable source for such both can not be used to contribute to the notability guidelines. Updates for editors

  • Wishlist item A new version of the standard wikitext editor-mode syntax highlighter will be available as a beta feature later this week. This brings many new features and bug fixes, including right-to-left support, template folding, autocompletion, and an improved search panel. You can learn more on the help page.
  • The 2010 wikitext editor now supports common keyboard shortcuts such Ctrl+B for bold and Ctrl+I for italics. A full list of all six shortcuts is available. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. [1]
  • Starting November 28, Flow/Structured Discussions pages will be automatically archived and set to read-only at the following wikis: bswiki, elwiki, euwiki, fawiki, fiwiki, frwikiquote, frwikisource, frwikiversity, frwikivoyage, idwiki, lvwiki, plwiki, ptwiki, urwiki, viwikisource, zhwikisource. This is done as part of StructuredDiscussions deprecation work. If you need any assistance to archive your page in advance, please contact Trizek (WMF).

Updates for technical contributors

  • The CodeEditor, which can be used in JavaScript, CSS, JSON, and Lua pages, now offers live autocompletion. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. The feature can be temporarily disabled on a page by pressing Ctrl+, and un-selecting "Live Autocompletion".
  • Advanced item Tool-maintainers who use the Graphite system for tracking metrics, need to migrate to the newer Prometheus system. They can check this dashboard and the list in the Description of the task T350592 to see if their tools are listed, and they should claim metrics and dashboards connected to their tools. They can then disable or migrate all existing metrics by following the instructions in the task. The Graphite service will become read-only in April. [2]
  • Advanced item The New PreProcessor parser performance report has been fixed to give an accurate count for the number of Wikibase entities accessed. It had previously been resetting after 400 entities. [3]

  • A Language community meeting will take place November 29 at 16:00 UTC. Hello. Thank you for your response to my earlier request. I have moved the in-progress page to draft space here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:The_Names_of_a_Hare (please let me know if I made any mistake with that)

As for your comments about notability, I want to point out the citation I included to the 1935 article by Alan Ross, which contains extensive discussion of the language used in the poem. I did find a copy online, but as it was a scanned copy on someone's personal web site, I guessed that it wouldn't be appropriate to link directly to that. Do you agree? In any case I was able to confirm the contents by requesting a copy from my local library.

Similarly, I found a second scholarly article responding to the 1935 one and disputing a few points of textual interpretation, but without including some very specific etymologies in the draft article itself, I didn't see a good way to cite it. Do you think there's any value in adding it as an additional reference just to provide further reading? --Merychippus (talk) 08:25, 30 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello Casseiopia, I changed the name of the page ryanoid to diamide insecticides, and looked up "what links here" with the intention of changing the egregious term "ryanoid" to "diamide" on as many wikipedia pages as possible. However on clicking on "what links here I obtained a list of hundreds of pages only a few of which link to ryanoid or diamide. Bosula Sorry for the late reply. I dont have land line internet for the last few days and it just happen I have a weak internet signal at the moment so I write to you now. If you write back again, and I dont reply immediately, then you would know the reason. I hope the weather is better in the next few days and the internet problem is solved. See "HERE -1" the page statistics. There are 199 links and 3 redirects. The links is due to those 199 articles have the word "insecticide". If you look at the article Insecticide's statistics there are 1,575 links - see HERE -2. The 3 redirects - see HERE-3 are those "words" are redirected to the article Diamide insecticides which means if any readers type those words on the search window they will be redirected to the article Diamide insecticides. Thanks Cassiopeia, That explains it. I therefore just now clicked "what links here" on the redirected page "ryanoid" and got only about 30 hits. Hi Sammy Tremlinn, friendly talk page stalker here. To address the orphan article issue one should try to find related articles that link to the page. The maintenance template even has a tool which may be of use, though in this case it didn't come up with any hits. That being said, this article currently has a number of issues which may lead to its deletion, such as non-neutral citations. If more reliable sources were located, it could possibly lead to expansion of the page and serve as grounds for links from related articles. Updates for editors

  • Two new parser functions were added this week. The {{#interwikilink}} function adds an interwiki link and the {{#interlanguagelink}} function adds an interlanguage link. These parser functions are useful on wikis where namespaces conflict with interwiki prefixes. For example, links beginning with MOS: on English Wikipedia conflict with the mos language code prefix of Mooré Wikipedia.
  • Starting this week, Wikimedia wikis no longer support connections using old RSA-based HTTPS certificates, specifically rsa-2048. This change is to improve security for all users. Some older, unsupported browser or smartphone devices will be unable to connect; Instead, they will display a connectivity error. See the HTTPS Browser Recommendations page for more-detailed information. All modern operating systems and browsers are always able to reach Wikimedia projects. [4]
  • Starting December 16, Flow/Structured Discussions pages will be automatically archived and set to read-only at the following wikis: arwiki, cawiki, frwiki, mediawikiwiki, orwiki, wawiki, wawiktionary, wikidatawiki, zhwiki. This is done as part of StructuredDiscussions deprecation work. If you need any assistance to archive your page in advance, please contact Trizek (WMF). [5]
  • This month the Chart extension was deployed to production and is now available on Commons and Testwiki. With the security review complete, pilot wiki deployment is expected to start in the first week of December.   • In late February, temporary accounts will be rolled out on at least 10 large wikis. This deployment will have a significant effect on the community-maintained code. The Trust and Safety Product team wants to identify this code, monitor it, and assist in updating it ahead of the deployment to minimize disruption to workflows. Jake jordan666 Good day. Pls read WP:Your first article for instructions. In a nutshell, a page will only be accepted by Wikipedia if the subject has significant coverage by indepndent, reliable sources (such as from the books or major newspapers) where by the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mentioned for verification. No copyright violation in the article and the article needs to be written in neutral point of view. I strongly suggest you to take eWP:TWA short program to understand the some of the basic of Wikipedia guidelines before attempt to write an article. Stay safe and best.
