Anne Hathaway

[edit]

There was a proposal brought up and discussed in 2010 to basically do exactly what you just did and it was rejected. Personally, I don't care one way or another, however if you feel strongly about the page move, I would suggest proposing it again rather than making the changes yourself. You'll only upset people otherwise. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 12:15, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Oh I didn't realize that. I think it should be changed to redirect to the actress because that would naturally be the most searched subject in current times. Marty2Hotty (talk) 22:36, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- I'm just checking my talk page and realized that Anne Hathaway now goes to the actress as I wanted. Basically, it used to go to the disambiguation page. I was like, who else would someone searching "Anne Hathaway" look for. Interesting :) Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:31, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'm Marty2Hotty and am using a computer to inquire as to why I'm blocked. A user called MuZemike banned me for reasons unknown to me. The reason is I am apparently linked to a Bigsean0300. There are no entry links and I have no idea who it is which leads me to think it is an IP link. I have edited articles from my public library, which leads me to think this may be an association. The moderator blocked my email, and cannot even edit my own talk page. I've had this account for years and see no reason why I should be linked to this bigsean0300. Please reverse this ban. I haven't created any new accounts and submitted an appeal through the form. The form stated that it would be better to add this tag on, which is why I'm doing so. Thanks in advance.

Decline reason:

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Note that, after looking at some information that I have received privately, I have reason to believe that this is not a sock puppet of a banned user and has unblocked as a result. This looks like the result of a likely false positive combined with some joe jobbing going on. My apologies for the inconvenience and my error, and I assure that it was not deliberate. --MuZemike 07:39, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks MuZemike. When I researched the reason as to why I was blocked, I looked up the "confirmed sockpuppets" section of Bigsean0300:

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_Bigsean0300

If you scroll down to the "M" section:

M User:Marty2Hotty User:Marty2snotty User:Marty2snottybigsean0300 User:Max Payne1

You will see that there was an account called "Marty2snottybigsean0300", which led to the admin to action Marty2snotty, and it seems as though my account "Marty2Hotty" was taken down for only having only a similar username, without any other links. I have had this account for 3 1/2 years. I hope that in the future, the evidence can be cited. At the very least, allow a member to edit their own talk page. I had difficulty trying to make contact with admins! Marty2Hotty (talk) 23:19, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom unblock appeal

[edit]

This user has appealed their block to the Arbitration Committee. After running a check on the account the Committee have declined the unblock request. There is sufficient evidence to link the account to Bigsean0300.

- The initial block was blocked in error. I sent a "ticket" before emailing the administrator who blocked me. After being unblocked, I heard back from the arbitration committee and was blocked again. This is the only account I have ever had. Marty2Hotty (talk) 20:14, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We are continuing to look into the matter, sorry for any inconvenience. SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:12, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks for looking into it. I am happy I have a chance to edit my talk page. I wasn't allowed to the first time I was blocked. It was pretty crazy, as I had no idea how I was linked. I then had to investigate myself and it really does seem that it was similar username. I understand the policies needed to prevent spam/abuse on Wikipedia, but by doing so, you're going to take down some innocent accounts at the same time. Again, I've had this account for 3 1/2 years and haven't had any other. It would be nice to have this account active again, because I enjoy editing wikipedia pages from time to time to help out. Thanks again - 20:35, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

After consultation with the original blocking (and unblocking) admin, the Arbitration Committee have agreed to unblock this account. The banned user Bigsean0300 and Marty2Hotty had technical similarities and it appears Bigsean0300 took advantage of that to create two new sock accounts making it appear as though Marty2Hotty was involved. Further technical and behavioural evidence have cleared this account. SilkTork ✔Tea time 20:56, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bateman

[edit]

Hi. I reverted your edition. I explain: Wikipedia uses the common name, a policy about names. The name of the article like that is the common name, not the current name. For example, American Rapper Snoop Dogg changed his name to Snoop Lion, but the article name stills Dogg because he spent years under that name. Mr. Hutter, the same. He appeared in WWE as Bateman for two years, so now, Bateman is the common name. He uses EC3 for one, two months. We can't say "EC3 is the name that he will use forward" because we can't be sure. If tomorrow Hutter died, changed his name or is fired, the common name will be Bateman. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 12:24, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Bateman is not his "common" name. Just because he used it in WWE, doesn't mean it should be his permanent ring name. It's not like Hulk Hogan vs Hollywood Hogan (where Hulk would win). Thanks for your explanation but I disagree, because Bateman was on NXT and a few shows in WWE, but that doesn't make it permanent. Marty2Hotty (talk) 20:51, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm reviewing my own talk page. I'm glad that his article is now Ethan Carter III as I wanted it to be. But at the time of the edit (December 2013), his character was new. Marty2Hotty (talk) 05:23, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly notice

[edit]

Hi! I notice you're quite new here? Welcome! I am too..sort of..but have been doing loads of editing so have lots of experience :) Just wanted to tell you that I reverted your change on Kristin kreuk's page. If you can provide a source/link to a website that proves that they have been living together or been with eachother since 2004, then you can change it back to 2004 and I'll leave it be. It's just that the personal life section says "partner since 2011" and so having 2004 in the infobox would contradict that.

Cheers

Miss.Indecisive (talk) 07:19, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've been editing articles here and there for like 4 years. Welcome to Wikipedia I guess. But there was an article where she said that she was with him for eight years. The article has been changed so much since a couple of years ago that for me to find it, I'd have to go back a few years, but I'm too lazy to do that and couldn't really care less. Accurately, they met on 2004 mini-series "Earthsea" (where they were cast together) and have been together since. I actually met her a few years ago too :) - Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:18, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, my bad! Thought you were new haha :D Lucky you!! So i guess we'll just leave it at 2011 for now, and if you do find it, source it and change it to "2004-present". Then again, although they met at that time, we do have to consider whether they started living together in 2004 as well..which is the apparent "criteria" for the partner section. :)

Thank you very much for adding the new album to the "music of Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross" pages, especially the tracklist- it's a big help to actually get a section put in for both pages, doubly so for so soon after the album was released. --PresN 03:05, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Albert Stubblebine

[edit]

Please don't blank material because you don't like it. It's sourced, including to an interview with him. If you think the sources fail WP:RS, take it up on the article's talk page. I note that you left most of the stuff about him walking through walls in the article, which made your edit pretty pointless so far as I can see. Doug Weller (talk) 19:09, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The page of Albert Stubblebine is merely an attempt to ruin his good name due to the fact he questioned the 9/11 attacks. Too bad it does not work for visitors like myself. He does not talk about walking through walls in any of his interviews. It was a Daily Mail article used to defame him. There needs to be credible sources. I am not going to fight the people that want to defame him. Marty2Hotty (talk) 21:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Man of Constant Sorrow

[edit]

Just a note to say that some of the minor versions you added have been deleted. This is mainly because of the restriction placed by WP:COVERSONG, therefore if you wish to add a song, do give a source that indicate its notability, e.g. it has been discussed in a book or other reliable sources in a non-trivial way, and links to YouTube and Twitter could not establish such notability. Hzh (talk) 14:55, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. I didn't even add those versions. Someone else did and there was a note asking for a source. So, I just found links to YouTube and linked them. They do appear to be good sources because they were performed by artists that have a Wikipedia article. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:02, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your move of Loose Change to Loose Change (films). First, the primary name should never be a redirect, so either we need to do a couple of moves or leave things alone. Next, the name you moved the disambiguation page was not appropriate. There are items on Loose Change that are not films. If you think a page move needs to happen you will need to start a discussion, see WP:RM for more information. -- GB fan 21:00, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would like to request a move that "Loose Change" be the name of the actual article and a link to disambiguation be noted above. Most people searching this will be searching the film series. Marty2Hotty (talk) 21:29, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Your edit to Angela Hill, as we has been reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept uncited material. I know you don't edit here that often, but since you've accumulated over 4,000 edits since you began editing here in 2008, you should know by now that Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. If you have sources for the material you wish to add to the article, please cite them, and do not add that material without them. Thanks. 16:04, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Sean O'Malley

[edit]

Hi. In spite of it clearly being in line with the given source, you changed O'Malley's nickname from right to wrong. We always go by Sherdog for nicknames.

https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Sean-OMalley-135099

Sometimes (on rare occasions) we use ESPN when there is a dispute.

https://www.espn.co.uk/mma/fighter/_/id/4205093/sean-omalley

While it's not independent and therefore less than ideal, people sometimes (although not for infobox nicknames) refer to the UFC site.

https://www.ufc.com/athlete/sean-omalley

Again, while this wouldn't pass as a reason to include in the infobox, you could review a green IRS to corroborate. Like this.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/ufc/omalley-sterling-ufc-292-results-b2396194.html

I'm sure you have noticed a pattern.

artcle now.. and it IS independent media. MMA Fighting is the biggest media outlet for MMA. MMA Junkie is second. Are you not familiar with them? The other sites are reporting it now too. === UFC on ESPN: Cannonier vs. Imavov - Fight card in vertical format ===

Hi Marty2 Hotty, good day. Pls note that the fight card is always in vertical format and not horizontal as per your edit - see here - [1]. Thank you and enjoy UFC on ESPN 57 tomorrow. Cassiopeia talk 00:48, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. That was not my edit. The only edit I made on that page was the catchweight bout change. Please message the one who originally made the veritical format as you said. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:27, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it looks like when I edited the table (adding Catchweight) with the visual editor, it changed the formatting. I will use source if I have to change it. Thanks. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:53, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have never had the problem using Visual editor to add source; however, we would not know as may be there is a rare technical issue or there was another editor editor the formatting at the same time you add the source and when both editors save their edits, the system lumped that in one edit as it happened to me before. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the fights today. Good night. Cassiopeia talk 05:54, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I only added "Catchweight 116.5lb" to one bout and it changed the entire for the whole table, so I need to be careful. I had to load the table and it affected everything for some reason. I think for those tables, it is necessary to only use source editing. Marty2Hotty (talk) 07:05, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Use source edit for table is the save bet. Thank you anyway. Cassiopeia talk 07:23, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

adding and moving fighter in list of current ufc fighters

[edit]
@HeinzMaster: Hi Marty2 Hotty and loop in HeinzMaster, each week, editor Heinz will move the fighters in certain divisions if they about to fight in diff division as per when they had debuted (date) prior the fight date and also move the fighter from "signing" section to "debuted fighters" division section accordingly. Leave it to Heinz to do the editing pls as I believe he have a database of when the fighters UFC debuted dates to slot in the right place of the division listed in the article (I used to have the fighters' UFC debuted dates store on excel in my computer. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 06:23, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
okay but did I make a mistake for those moves? I moved Jesse Butler and Punahele Soriano. I searched for debut dates of them and those in the division to put in the correct slot. Marty2Hotty (talk) 07:08, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HeinzMaster: Hi Marty2 Hotty, I dont know if the moves were correct or not as I no longer update the debuted dates since Heinz took over the tasks I havent updated on my UFC debuted dates spread sheets. Just let Heinz help on the task, for he know the in and out on this one. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 07:40, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will let him know. The moves were correct, by the way. Marty2Hotty (talk) 07:47, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fighters' page fight event to new names

[edit]

Hi Marty2Hotty, I saw you edited some of the fighters' page for the new event name. Just wonder have you done all the fighters pages and List of current UFC fighters from UFC on ESPN 58 onwards? If not let me know which one have not been done so I will do them. Just want to be sure all are updated. Since I am here, just to let you know that the norm is that if a certain editors do certain edits in regular basic, we usually let him to the work and not take over the edits, if so then only 1 or 2 editors would be needed and not a collaboration work and sooner or later, the experienced editors just left Wikipedia as their interest only in mma specific. I understand you enjoy to contribute but do consider my point. If an editor no longer have time or not longer interest on the edits which they usually do, then we take over the work. There is only a handful of us that is really active and experienced and many mma editors come and go, so just do make sure the handful always around since they have the knowledge and experience and able to welcome, educate, support and do constructive talk page disagreement settlement. That is the reason why I ask you to let Heizn to do the moving fighters and update the fighter in original country and division and same here I will always remain work on the update bouts and results on the page. If I am away for certain reasons and unable to update, Heinz will step in without I need to let him know as we work for awhile to understand the pattern of our edits. I hope you could understand and thank you for your contribution. Let me if if there is a "sector" of edit you want to do in List of current UFC fighters such as update the rankings of each week. I will welcome that if so. Let me know and thank you. (This is the same reasons, there is certain editors moved the announced bouts to fight card and update the results after fights which we all let the do the work. Cassiopeia talk 06:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I updated all the ones that had the event name changed to my knowledge from the fighters' pages. I do not know when Fight Night event names change. It depends on when a new UFC event is added. When that happens, I guess the same can apply. Moving fighters to the appropriate section after debut is not a big problem, but I will let Heinz know. It looks like the country and number of fighters need to be updated. The "List of Current Fighters" page was good but I cleaned it up a little. The editors who move the announced bouts to the fight card do a good job too.
I do enjoy editing. It is Wikipedia. I think people are free to edit. If it is your task to update a certain part, you can do so, but I guess if I am available, I can do it too if I am available. If I do it and make a mistake, you can always double check as you do, and I can double check others'. Marty2Hotty (talk) 13:27, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do you find out about the names of "ESPN" or "Vegas". I do not know where they are officially listed. Marty2Hotty (talk) 13:32, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thank you for your updates on the fighters' and list of current UFC fighters articles of the event name changed. I understand you enjoying editing Wikipedia and you are free to edits whatever pages you like. I mentioned to you to let other editors to edits just so that we dont drive the experienced editors away since they have nothing to edit in MMA related pages since you have updated them all, and eventually they will leave Wikipedia for I have seen it many times. It is always good to have experienced editor around so we can educate and welcome new editors. I used to create all the fighters' pages, updated all the announced bouts, fight results, bonuses, championship, rankings and all other related article with only one or 2 other editors involved and it was a lot of work. I educated a few editors later and they joined to help the editing and Heinz came along and he started to create fighters' articles and other came to update the fight card and announced bout and that was the time you came. Since then some experienced editor left because they have nothing to update since the new editors have done all the work. So what I am saying is that, let some of the work be updated by other editors so they also can contribute. If they dont do the work anymore for whatever reasons, then we pick up the work up. So if possible, leave some editing on certain sector for other editors to update and not do all the updating yourself alone even you are available/free to do it so we can keep experienced editors around.
I am glad you clean up the pages, pls do them as you see fit.
The UFC event naming started long time ago. Since there is no name announced by UFC for they just announced "UFC Fight Night on xx month yy date". So the media, started by MMA Junkie, name the Fight Night by number on they article so they can keep track of the events and Sherdog database used it as the fight event name. Then in recent years, not sure which media started to name event in APEX (during Covid) Vegas XX event name and that is how is was started and one editor add that in the article. Here in Wikipedia, the name was used as UFC Fight Night XXX and then also use the TV channel that broadcast the event. It is a long standing how the names are created here in Wikipedia. Once we know which event is broadcasted ESPN or ESPN+ or ABC then we will change the names according and redirect the previous to the articles with the new name. It is a process of moving the articles so the history log remain in the article with the new names. Cassiopeia talk 04:45, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your explanation on the names.i guess they are not official names by the ufc but once you find out the channel, the name is changed? Do you wait for a source to announce what network it will air on.
Why was last week's one only ufc on espn and not "ufc fight night xxx". Which source do you use to name the page.
When can they be both? We follow mmajunkie? Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:36, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thank you for explaining. I don't really update the announced bouts to main card. I think to create all the pages, move, do all the bouts, it's a lot of work. I can do them when I watch the events and I usually watch them. I think heinz still works on other stuff too.
I don't think I want it to be a job that I'm not paid for but I want to update when I'm free and it's enjoyable. I don't know exactly what heinz does but I'm sure he does a great job. I think he updates other company ones.
I usually keep track of the UFC records but recently the current fighters.
I am not sure how long I'll do this for though. I don't want them to leave but they can always check for errors like everyone else does. Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:39, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty crazy that you created all the pages and did everything before Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:40, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is good now that there are about a dozen of us who are regular editors to help up on editing and updates. Back some 6-7 years ago, there was only a few of us and so many notable fighters were left without a page and list of current UFC was hardly edits and I expanded the fighters double the info today. Heinze used to update UFC announced, cancelled bouts and updated UFC fighters pages and other things. Since some of you started to be regular editors and understand the norms and some editing guidelines, nowsaday he just updates the UFC current fighter list, moving the fighters to different divisions, updated the debuted fighter countries of origin, released fighters and suspended fighters. He also updated former UFC fighters who fights in different promotions as I didnt have the time to do that. As for the fight event name - we also create the events name with UFC Fight Night XXX except for PPV events. We will change the name when the fight event name change in UFC.com event page when the main event is set. We then will change the event name again when Sherdog updated if the UFC Fight Night is aired in ABC or ESPN or ESPN+. If the event is aired in ESPN+ then that is considered UFC Fight Night XXX event. If the event is aired on ESPN or ABC channel then we will change the event name to UFC on ESPN XX or UFC on ABC XX (Note for all fight night event in regardless on ESPN, ESPN

"Hounding on Wikipedia (or "wikihounding") is the singling out of one or more editors, joining discussions on multiple pages or topics they may edit or multiple debates where they contribute, to repeatedly confront or inhibit their work. This is with an apparent aim of creating irritation, annoyance, or distress to the other editor. Hounding usually involves following the target from place to place on Wikipedia.
Many users track other users' edits, although usually for collegial or administrative purposes. This should always be done with care, and with good cause, to avoid raising the suspicion that an editor's contributions are being followed to cause them distress, or out of revenge for a perceived slight."

Archiving

[edit]
L Marty2 Hotty, pls read the Keys/Note on List of current UFC fighters section: We use Sherdog info as UFC is considered not independent nor reliable source (UFC is a promoter and a private company - info they provide has not third party to vent accuracy or fact, just like any other companies, not like a major newspapers. Moreover, it is not about which country or countries they fighter(s) want to represent, (pls note a person might have dual citizenship), but it is about the info is source by independent, reliable source especially when his birth country is known like Belal which is United States and not about their ethnicity, heritage, bloodline, which country they want to represent and etc. Cassiopeia talk 23:37, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.
So, for Belal, we use the USA flag? Also, on UFC 304's page, they wrote "Mick Parkin" for the bonuses as that is the name he goes by when fighting and in most media, but Sherdog put Michael Parkin. So for the "list of current fighters" page, we should use what? It should be consistent with other pages, or can it be Michael Parkin on "current fighters" and "Mick Parkin" on the bonus/fight card section. Marty2Hotty (talk) 01:01, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, USA flag. We use Michael Parkin as per Sherdog; however, if a page is created for Parkin in Wikipedia and sources indicate Mick instead of Michael (WP
COMMON Name guidelines), then we will change to Mick. Remain Michael until such time. Thanks. Cassiopeia talk 01:55, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
UFC 304's page lists him as Mick. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:56, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
UFC is not a reliable nor independent source. we only use extremely limited info if we can find the info directly about the fighter in other independent, reliable source. Cassiopeia talk 04:09, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
UFC 304 on Wikipedia. The editors put him as Mick. Marty2Hotty (talk) 04:35, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=List_of_UFC_records&oldid=prev&diff=1237634514 a user reverted my edit of Belal and says to use Palestine. Marty2Hotty (talk) 19:22, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
:I think I forgot to change the country's total. I only minused the number from the division. Marty2Hotty (talk) 14:29, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HeinzMaster: Hope you enjoy your holiday in Croatia. Hi Marty2 Hotty, The editor above that you mentioned above - see HERE-hist diff you mentioned), Here-2 Admistrator's Notice Board/edit warring and Here-3 Editor user page, reported by @User: User:Nswi, and the editor is being block for 2 weeks for WP:ASPERSIONS. We add/removed fighters country of origin on country and total when a fighter moved from one division to other division, add debuted fighter, and removed released/retired fighter from the table. I used to recount the info once every 6 month and later User:HeinzMaster do the same two years ago till now to make sure we count it right and didnt forget to make an entry. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 22:53, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to recount this week. I did my best yesterday but some didn't add up.
I think that editor did his best and had good intentions. I see his point about Belal being Palestinian. I guess he doesn't have a citizenship but he represents them. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:01, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for offering to do the recount : Note to @User:HeinzMaster. As for blocked editor mentioned above: As this is Wikipedia, we do not take what the subject (Belal) wants or intention of which country/countries he wants to represent but we adhere to the WP:ETHNICITY guidelines which apply across all subject in Wikipedia. Thank you and have a good day. Cassiopeia talk 02:06, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Recount is done as of now. Took a number of hours over two nights, but it's done! Marty2Hotty (talk) 15:25, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:ProdigyUpdates looks like he takes part in Wikiproject Pakistan and claims to have been on Wikipedia for 10 years, perhaps with another account not associated with this one. I do think Belal can be considered a "Palestinian-American" (on his intro) based on his parents being Palestinan and him having so much coverage relating to Palestine. Marty2Hotty (talk) 15:01, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have not been calculating the fighters' "scores" on List of UFC fighters. User:HeinzMaster. Marty2Hotty (talk) 17:51, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HeinzMaster: good day. Not the "scores on the fighters' divisions". What I meant was the recount on "Debuted fighters' countries of origin" as we sometimes forget to update when a fighter was retired, released or change weight classes". :::::Btw Marty2Hotty, The intro (the lead) section, can not stated the ethnicity, bloodline, heritage as per WP:ETHNICITY in regardless which country he wants to associate with that goes with all other subject in the entire Wikipedia. We can state his heritage (supported by independent, reliable source) on the Background or personal life section. It is very important for us to adhere to Wikipedia guidelines and not what we see fit or what our opinions. There are some guidelines in Wikipedia I dont agree such as I think every editor should have an account (you dont even have to provide your email address to sign up) and to have strict rules on vandalism (In German Wikipedia, they will only give you 1 or at most 2 times for offenses and they will block you and it works very well in that site. This can only apply to English Wikipedia if the vandalism is extremely serious), but since I edit English Wikipedia, I adhere to the guidelines here and not what I think. Btw, editing 9 years in Wikipedia does not correlated to knowing the Wikipedia guidelines. User ProdigyUpdates has only total edits of 217 and only 171 edits on mainspace - see - here. Thank you for doing the recount. I know it takes a lot of time. Appreciate it. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 22:13, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you revert my Kennedy post
Mma junkie received confirmation from someone who had knowledge which is why they reported it on their website. If it's not confirmation along with lima's post, they wouldn't report it. The text says:
"With the addition, the UFC 308 lineup now includes:
Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov
Rinat Fakhretdinov vs. Nursulton Ruziboev
Dan Ige vs. Lerone Murphy
Kennedy Nzechukwu vs. Marcos Rogerio"
Which means the bout has been added to the lineup in mmajunkie's eyes Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:04, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If a fighter posts they are fighting, and MMAJunkie reaches out to someone who wanted to remain anonymous who confirmed Kennedy was moving to heavyweight, and then subsequently reports it on their website, that is as good as a confirmed report as per journalism. Someone with knowledge told MMAJunkie about Kennedy's move to heavyweight, not specifically about the bout, which was sufficient enough for MMAJunkie to report it on their website. Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:13, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We dont take fighter report as that is not independent nor reliable source as as we dont take info from UFC or any company unless we state that is a quote with supporting source. Secondly, media can always take the info from whoever which they have to confirm the source is reliable. In this case, MMA junkie didnt as it says a person who know the info did. If MMA junkie sure of the source, it will usually state the fight is booked or set and not stating XXX says there are fighting YYY in the article title. You can find another source to add the info in. We do add info just because it is out there so we can add it as quickly as we can, but we wait until reliable, independent source is available. Cassiopeia talk 00:20, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In journalism, they do not announce who provided them with the information, but when they receive enough sources, they publish it, as was the case here. I'm sure you know how journalism works. Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:23, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The bout was added to the lineup of the card as per MMAJunkie's page. It was strong enough reporting to add the bout to the lineup. Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:24, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes in journalism they dont provide their source. We trust reliable source, because there is a reputable source which always provide accuracy info. I have to disagree with you on this even there is a line up info as per the content of the source. We wait. Wikipedia is not a breaking news and not a news media but an enclyopedia. There will be source available in next few days if the bout is confirmed as other news media will announced it. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 00:27, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fighter pages UFC.com awards

[edit]

Hi Pls do NOT remove the info from the Achievments section. If you want to remove the "# ranked" go ahead but keep the info on the achievement section. Cassiopeia talk 08:51, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is not necessary to include #2 to 10. This was not done from 2008 to 2023. @Heinzmaster What do you think Heinz. Cassio is adding #2 to 10 for all UFC.com awards. It is not necessary to add this for all fighters for the UFC.com awards. Only #1 is usually done. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:53, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am ok if you dont want to include the ranked but do not remove the info. If we can find the source for other year awards, then we can add them in. There are some fighters have few differents award such as fighter, knockout and fight of the year. Pls do not remove them. Cassiopeia talk 08:56, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I dont understand what you mean. Please write proper English. It is not necessary to include Ranks 2-10 on the fighter pages. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:59, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have the source for all the 2006-2023 awards. It is not necessary to add #2-10. I tagged HeinzMaster. Historically, editors only put the award winners for #1. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You also have a ton of typos on all the fighter pages. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HeinzMaster: Correct the typos if you like and it does not violate any guidelines for having typos. There are editors who just correct other editors/content typos and grammar. Just like I keep on correcting and educating editors about guidelines and work on counter vandalism. #1-10 should be all included and 2023 was included in the fighters pages. For example, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Tom_Aspinall = Aspinall was #6 ranked fighter of the year for 2023. Is that necessary to include that on his accomplishments? I do not think it is. There are fighters who are always on the top 10 fighter of the year list. Will they have each year added.
Jon Jones will be on the list for almost every year. Is it necessary information? Let's discuss before we continue with this. Only the winners should be included. Please reply with proper English and explain why #2 to 10 for these awards should be on each page. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:07, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can put #1 to 10 on the "2024 in UFC" page, but Ranks 2 to 10 do not need to be on every single fighter's page. Let's get other editors to agree before we continue with this. Otherwise, fighters' pages will be filled with these awards that they are runner ups to. Having a #3 to 10th ranked Knockout is not an accomplishment or achievement. The winner is. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:08, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please tag autoupdateposter, heinz and other editors. we can reach a consensus as to whether to include all ranks #2-10 for the ufc.com awards. This goes all the way back to 2006. I personally think it's excessive and not necessary.
User:AddedUpdatePoster User:Gsfelipe94 User:HeinzMaster Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:05, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
::: You update all the strikes, punches, submissions, etc of fighters and you do every week and some editors think it is excessive and not necessary and if it is sourced then I am OK. This is sourced and these awards are significant and it should be added in. If you want to reword it then go ahead but keep the info. Cassiopeia talk 09:10, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you going to do the UFC.com awards from 2006-2023 for ranks #2 to 10 as well? Is that necessary? Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:11, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I reworded them and changed the format for now. I am okay with a line of these awards, but for example, Jon Jones' awards from 2008 to 2024 should not take up 30 lines of that section. Do you agree? I personally think it's not necessary, but I can format it to not take so much space, especially space away from his major accomplishments. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:22, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know 4 languages and English is my third. You dont need to correct any copy edit if you dont want to but if you want then be polite toward the editors who made the edit. If you want to reword or change the format then do all of them in the same format and same wording as Diego Lopes (fighter) and Dricus du Plessis which you edited are not the same format and wording. Cassiopeia talk 09:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I still do not understand your sentences here except that English is your third language. I am deciding a way to format the runner-up awards on the pages. I do not think someone who has runner up awards for four of these deserves four lines. Jon Jones will have 40 lines of these awards which takes up too much space. Do you agree? I am working on the format to keep it clean.
I will not go back and add 2006-2023 awards for runner ups. Last year, I added the winners for all of those but not #2-10. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:31, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You did not address my point about Jon Jones. If he is on the awards from 2008 to 2023 for many of these awards ranked 2-10, should I list all of them on his accomplishments section? It would take 40-50 lines of these. Is it necessary? What do you think. Please check your English with an app before replying to avoid unnecessary correspondence. I encourage you to do this for all the pages you leave a comment on their talk page as well because I saw many editors who did not understand your points and it led to a lot of back-and-forth. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:33, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just put UFC.com awards not "2024 Runner-up awards: " for it does not make sense. For fighters who have many UFC.com awards (not many fighters thought) we can use the POTN format. Let agree on the format first before changing them. Cassiopeia talk 09:45, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will exclude runner up awards or ufc.com awards and will add "small" for vs. Are you going to add 2008 to 2023 #2-10 awards too? Please answer. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:50, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will add 2008 to 2023 #2-10 awards in the next few weeks when I can find the info but let agree with the format first. Cassiopeia talk 09:57, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please stop changing the wording and format until an agreement is achieved so we dont need to edit the same page so many times. Cassiopeia talk 09:59, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2024 #5 Fighter of the Year.
This is the best wording. I think it depends on the fighter and how many awards they have for the format. For "vs", we can include the "small" format. For those with multiple awards in one year, we can include it in the same line if you want. For fighters like Jones or Anderson Silva who have 20-30, a new format will be needed to keep things clean.
Is this fine? Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was kidding about 2008 to 2023. I have all the sources for them somewhere. It is not necessary for you to do them. I was just making a point. For someone like Jon Jones, who will have like 40-50, perhaps a separate section can be put if you do this, but I do not think you have to. Since you are so insistent on doing it this year, we can start from this year. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:59, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pls do not kid around as this is not a social platform. We collaborate and support each other to work on the project so let's focus on that. We have agree in the format and wording. For Jones case and fighters who might have a lot of UFC.com awards, if the agreed format would resulted in many line, then we use other format for such cases. But we have to agree with a default format and wording first. You can suggest if you want to. Cassiopeia talk

AGAIN, PLS STOP edit until we agree on the wording and format. Cassiopeia talk 10:09, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I typed a lot but the edit conflict from your post deleted my post. Please check your English for every comment you post because English is your third language. Not just my page, but all the editors' pages you post on. I have seen many conversations with that went too long because the other person did not understand what you wrote.
Format again: "2024 #4 Fighter of the Year" / "2024 #10 Submission of the Year" (not "Submissions" because that makes no sense). If there is a "vs", add "small" for that fighter. If the fighter has many awards in one year, include it on the same line to avoid taking too much space for runner-up awards.
If a fighter like Jon Jones or a top fighter who has a ton of awards over ten years, a new section like "UFC.com Awards" might be needed but I do not think it is necessary to make rankings for #2-10 for 2006-2023.
Does this make sense? Please check the English with an app to translate, and please proofread your English before you comment to avoid having us correspond too much. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:14, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am fixing your typos and do not have much time tonight. Please add a space after ""2024 #10 Submission of the Year" [ADD SPACE HERE] vs. Yair Rodriguez
We will keep your awards on the pages.
Is this okay??

I think most of your typos include
"2024 #2 Submissions of the Year"vs.Diego Lopez =====>> Should be "no 's'" for Submissions and Newcomers ===>> "2024 #2 Submission of the Year" vs. Diego Lopez (correct spacing). Is this okay? I am fixing a lot of those. Please proofread your posts before applying your edits. This seems to be an ongoing problem. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:25, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 #5 Fighter of the Year - "#5" does not give the "placement/ranking" - what do you think if we put "2024 5th place Fighter of the Year" instead. I am OK with these two - (1) For "vs", we can include the "small" format. (2) For those with multiple awards in one year, we can include it in the same line

Example for Brian Ortega page

note: no 2 as it is the fighter and not the event name

Let me know what do you think?

=== I do not like the "5th place". #5 is fine. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We also do not need "UFC.com awards" for each fighter unless the fighter has a lot of awards. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The "half year awards" also has a ranking of #1 to 10. Just to let you know. "5th Place" seems complicated.
"2024 #5 ranked Submission of the Year" might be okay. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:28, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It just seems more wordy. No other page has ranked #2-10 awards. There are many media outlets that have ranked awards and usually #1 is listed on the page. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, #5 does not give the impression it is ranked/placed 5th on the awards listing (just liked in fighter ranking we update each week, we put ranked #5 but not only #5) The info here is UFC.com awards and not other media awards which they ranked 1 to 10 for each of the 5 category. Secondly we have POTN and FOTN so we should have UFC.com awards. We dont have an agreement here, so we wait until other editors opinions before change the wording and format. So pls stop changing info until such time. Have a good night. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 10:34, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please proofread your English with a program before commenting?
There are too many grammatical mistakes for me to understand your writing and what specifically you mean. Please use CoPilot or Chat GPT to correct it. It only takes one second.
How about "2024 #5 Ranked Submission of the Year"
Is that okay? Also, I am editing to fix your typos because you did not check them before you submitted. Please make sure you check your edits before submitting. When you communicate with other editors, please use an English program because it is a waste of time to communicate back and forth otherwise.
Also: there are awards from MMAMania, BleacherReport, MMAJunkie posted on some pages. They do NOT have ranks 2-10, so why should UFC.com??
Also: there are half year awards from UFC.com - should we add #2-10 for those too? Think about how much unncessary information this is. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:38, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I asked CoPilot to correct your sentence and got the following in one second:
""Well, #5 does not give the impression that it is ranked/placed 5th on the awards listing (just like in fighter rankings we update each week, we put 'ranked #5' but not only '#5'). The information here pertains to awards and not other media awards, which rank 1 to 10 for each of the five categories. Secondly, we have POTN (Performance of the Night) and FOTN (Fight of the Night), so we should also have awards. We don't have an agreement here, so let's wait for other editors' opinions before changing the wording and format. So, please stop changing the information until then. Have a good night. Stay safe and best wishes.""
Please do the same. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:40, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even with this, the information doesn't make much sense. It is tough communicating with you, to be honest. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:41, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"2024 Ranked #5 Submission of the Year"
How about the above. Chat GPT says this might be the best. Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:43, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will edit with this
""2024 Ranked #5 Submission of the Year""
There are a lot of typos and missing spaces on all the fighter pages you edited. So I have to edit.
I like your idea of "UFC.com Awards". For example, Alex Pereira - How is that? Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:50, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I assume English is your native language, and it might be the only language you know. I’ve provided you with Wikipedia guideline links multiple times in the past, yet you’ve still edited content in ways that didn’t adhere to those guidelines—guidelines that were not written by me. I’ve lived in six different countries and have many friends from diverse backgrounds. Even when English is their second language, I don’t find it difficult to understand them. I assume you also understand what Khabib or other Russian fighters say, even when they speak in broken English.

How about below - all in one line ?

          • Please see my recent edits. I think UFC.com Awards section is good.

All in one section is good. However, for "Fighter of the Year" - the winner - I think it deserves its own line. For the #2-10, give it a second line - together. I think the main award is more significant. See my recent edits.

The one above is good.. but for the winner, it deserves its own line. See Ilia Topuria. Is that okay?

--- As for English.. Khabib is not editing on Wikipedia and providing guidelines to other editors. Those who do this like yourself need good English to avoid confusion. Please input all your comments into an AI app and then copy the revised one. This will help a lot. Many editors have had difficulty understanding your English, especially on Wikipedia and coaching-related reasons. You will be communicating with people with high ability English, so you must make sure you understand what they are saying and your English to them must be clear and concise. They are often broken. Also, when you make an edit, you need to preview your edits before confirming. When you do this, you will see the comma, spacing, broken link errors that are often seen. Again, I type all of this but you might not understand, so you should copy and paste this on a translation app to avoid confusion. When replying, please make sure you quickly check your grammar. This is not just for me, but for every other editor you communicate with. I have seen a lot of confusion from others and threads that could have been closed earlier. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:08, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See Alex Pereira and Ilia Topuria. Both are #1 fighters, but they have other awards that can be put together on one line. Is this fine? Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:11, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer listing all awards from the same year in a single line to avoid confusion and save space. If you dont agree then let's see what other editors think about this. I really need to go to bed as I need to get up 5:30am as I have early start for work. Good night and we continue to talk about this tomorrow. Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 11:22, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ranks 2-10 take up a lot of space, but #1 does seem to deserve its own space because it is the main award that was "won". Rank 2-10 are not won, so they can be grouped on the same line, I think. Regardless, there are very few fighters who have a #1 and runner up rankings.
Please use Chat GPT before commenting. This will help everyone who interacts with you and you interact a lot. Trust me. This will save time for everyone. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:24, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
but to avoid confusion, we can just group it. I personally think it takes away from #1 if there are others grouped with it, but whatever. Again, please get used to proofreading your posts. I think *UFC.com Awards is better than **UFC.com Awards
Other media awards are using * as well. Okay? Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:33, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey you are making many typos again. The ", and &" are for awards with the same vs opponent. | is to separate awards of the same year. See Kayla Marty2Hotty (talk) 01:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For Alex Pereira, I tried grouping all five awards, and it looked messy. With the current style, the "winning #1" award deserving its own line is nice. The other awards can be grouped. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Stop editing. You are making a ton of typos and duplicating the years. You put 2024 2024, twice Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:54, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find the 2006 top 10 UFC submissions list in the sources. If I've missed something, please let me know. Cassiopeia talk 04:50, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the link for 2006 submissions. I'll fix the 3 here on wiki
Please do not get mad. The 2005 ones exist and i have only the source of the menu but the links no longer work.
However, i was able to confirm with Gerbasi. He sent me the full articles and they are on my wiki page.
Not all awards have a source because some are too old like this one but you can be rest assured that they are real!
Please let me know if you have questions and good job.

UFC Honors

[edit]

Hi, Please look for a website (UFC or others) for a source, and do not use YouTube as the source. Cassiopeia talk 04:39, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

They make their announcements only on social media and it's official from their page so there is no problem? It's their awards. They will post it on their website but it will replace the 2023 awards. Marty2Hotty (talk) 05:57, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
it's UFC's awards so why isn't UFC reliable. Why do you allow UFC.com awards to use ufc.com as a source. They are merely announcing their own awards from their own website. Marty2Hotty (talk) 05:59, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, other media outlets do not report UFC Honors' winners. Only UFC reports their own winners.
Please answer why you allow ufc.com awards to use UFC as a source Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:02, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We dont use social media source (You tube). UFC is not reliable nor independent source just like all other private companies, social media, org, edu, gov sites, except news, book polishers, reputable magazines and etc We only use it sparingly when we can really find other source. Strictly speaking as per Wikipedia guidelines, we cant use UFC as a source. Please look for a website (UFC or others) for a source, and do not use YouTube as the source. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 06:44, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you allow UFC.com awards to use UFC's source. Your answer is not sufficient. Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:55, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How is UFC not reliable when they are reporting their own awards? Please answer both questions.
Why are you making UFC.com awards pages and using ufc.com as a source. Marty2Hotty (talk) 06:56, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(1) As I said, we use the website sparingly for certain info that we think is important yet cant get from any sites and the info is most likely to stand, such as awards, fighters' stands, etc, but not from the social media. We previously used the reach and stand info for fighters and know we can obtain the reach from Tapology. You can remove all info/content sourced by UFC website if you want. (2) "How is UFC not reliable when they are reporting their own award?" - As per Wikipedia, sources such as from private companies, org, gov, social media, and blogs are all not reputable sources for "reliable sources re published sources with a reputation for "fact-checking and accuracy". This means that we publish only the analysis, views, and opinions of reliable authors. Examples (i) an annual report from Google, AT&T, or any private company or gov, edu, org, etc., we do not know the accuracy of the source (who is checking the accuracy from third parties?). For such, it is considered unreliable. We use private companies sources in Wikipedia unless it is as a direct quote or stating / according to "XXX company reports ........". We can remove unsourced, unreliable, and/or not independently sourced content from Wikipedia articles.
That is the reason why you see not reliable sites always get the latest news they find the info from X or social media sites, and those reliable sources such as Sherdog, and MMA Junkies consistently report that info a few days later because they need to check the info before publishing the article. A good example here - mymma.pl stated on Jan 8, stated that Leon Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena are scheduled to headline the UFC London card - see UFC Fight Night 255. On Jan 13, 5 days later, Sherdog stated Leon Edwards and Jack Della expected to headline UFC London - see HERE -1; and MMA Fighting stated the bout/headliner is targeted - see HERE-2.
Some big news companies, such as Al Jazeera, is state sponsored and it is considered unreliable sources. Sometimes, you will hear some breaking news, showing some video clips, and the new reporters will say they can't verify the info because their reporters have yet to be on the scenes or get confirmation/checking the info.
I hope it answers your question. If not, then let me know. Cassiopeia talk 07:50, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
you didn't answer my question. You repeated drivel that doesn't relate to what I said
If UFC are the people that have their own awards, why is that not reliable. Who fact checks the company's awards. You bringing in Google and government is not related to the posting of awards and bout information from the own company.
For Al Jazeera and Russia, they are reporting information that might be subjective. So that's why independent is important.
For a company's awards and bouts,
So now you are saying, UFC awards is okay to use UFC.com as a source?
For UFC Honors, the website changes so the website does not have the 2022, 2023 information whereas the video will have it. The video is the same information
Social media is not reliable when it comes from a random person. But if it's from the actual source itself for bouts and awards, it can be
For UFC Honors, other media sites do not source it. People have used the UFC website for a source but it updates every year and the old information is gone. So what do you suggest here?
Also: Do you think runner-ups for these awards should be noted Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:19, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay "we use the website sparingly for certain info that we think is important yet cant get from any sites and the info is most likely to stand, such as awards, fighters' stands"
You said this but the UFC honors page changes every year. We cannot use the page and the archive website does not include the information
In this case, the videos have all the information. We might have to reference the official YouTube video of UFC for that reason. It is reliable because it's from the direct source.
It's their awards. They announce the winners so why does mmajunkie need to post the exact same information on their website.
If it's about a scandal related to Dana White, then UFC will not be reliable because he owns the company. In situations like this, we need an independent source. That's the info you keep telling me
But you don't seem to understand the Wikipedia guidelines on why independent sources are needed.
For UFC awards, rankings, you choose to allow UFC as a source. Your answer is just "we can use it sparingly", so the same can be done for UFC Honors?
The source keeps changing so "sparingly" we will need to use YouTube because the website doesn't exist for the information
Makes sense? Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:24, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The point here is "fact checking" - who is checking the source. Just like, Google says they earning is 50mil on January, who is checking it? I understand you point but that is not Wikipedia guidelines. MMA Junkie posts the info for the check the info first, we use reliable (mma junkie) as source. You tube is not a reliable source and it will set precedent for future use. If the award is so important and significant, we will see them at least in UFC website. We can do without the info. Strictly speaking, it is better to removed UFC sourced content in Wikipedia articles then having them for UFC is not independent nor reliable source. Cassiopeia talk 08:37, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So for awards, events, rankings, it's okay?
It's straight from the source so we accept it.
So you don't really have an answer for why it's acceptable to use UFC for their own awards, events and rankings?
Your answer is we can use it sparingly if there is no other source. The same apples to honors. Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:55, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
but you allow UFC. Com awards? Marty2Hotty (talk) 08:56, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My answer, strictly speaking, it is better to removed UFC sourced content in Wikipedia articles then having them for UFC is not independent nor reliable source. I am OK for UFC.com awards info to be removed from Wikipedia. Cassiopeia talk 08:58, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How about rankings and events pages. we use the UFC page
I think you do not understand the Wikipedia guidelines.
Independent sourcing is necessary if they are discussing information that can be subjective.
But even for UFC, MMA junkie just reports gate and attendance that the UFC say at their post fight press conferences so they are not really fact checking Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:07, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.ufc.com/news/ufc-announces-ufc-honors-introducing-end-of-year-fighter-awards
It says:
"When and Where Will UFC Honors Award Winners Be Announced?
All UFC Honors Award winners will be announced at the end of December. UFC Fans can visit ufc.com/honors, or UFC’s Official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels for the announcements."
The official announcements are done via social media. I think we can "sparingly" make an exception for these awards similar to the Events page/Rankings/UFC.com Awards and more.
Independent fact checking is necessary if they talk about something that is subjective. Usually, the media outlets just report what the UFC announces for events, bout announcements, gate/attendance, stats. Media outlets take the UFC's word for it. This makes the UFC a reliable source for their own information. Do you understand? Marty2Hotty (talk) 10:45, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is very hard to find the UFC Honors 2020 awards and nominees. I can find the video but it is very hard to find a web page. The videos from official social media accounts show everything. Honors is meant to be a social media event for fans as well.
For example: 2020 POTY candidates: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=401389274492738
On web archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20200311001553/https://www.ufc.com/honors/presidential-award - it is very hard to locate the information on this outdated link. I can find it using coding but for Wikipedia readers, it is not easy to find. Therefore, I think some exceptions can be made for UFC Honors.
What do you think? I am having a lot of difficulty for the 2022 ones, but if I cannot find web page reports, I think the video is the best option as it is still a very credible source, and maybe even better as readers can see the video.
This is "sparingly" as you say when we have exhausted all efforts.
Luckily, for UFC.com awards, the pages can be loaded, except the 2005 one. Marty2Hotty (talk) 15:53, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine to leave UFC awards. They are unofficial awards.
For honors, i guess if you don't want YouTube to be a source, we can put the award on the page without a link to the source because the information can easily be searched Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:05, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think for undisputable information like rankings, events, stats, bouts, we are currently accepting UFC as an accurate source because they are the company that holds the events.
This is obvious. So your answer of "we sparingly use it" is not sufficient.
If we follow your rule, then we cannot use rankings, event page, stats from UFC even though the media sites use those pages as the direct source.
Do you get it? When Dana announces an event, it is official from UFC, so all media sites merely report it. We can use the media sites but we cannot use UFC? Think about the logic here. Marty2Hotty (talk) 09:11, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will create a UFC Honors section for the years' pages. The web archive does not have a good link for 2022, but for 2023, they do. I can use the UFC Website as a source, but for older ones, I might have to use YouTube if I cannot find a web report for the links. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:07, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm sorry. Yesterday, I got off my computer for certain things that needed my attention. I saw you used other media sources and some archive info for the source. Cassiopeia talk 08:20, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the tricky thing is UFC Honors is meant to be a social media award and was for the fans to see so a lot of their announcements are on Facebook, X or Instagram but from their official pages (verified).
It's very hard to find media sites to source so YouTube might be the best and acceptable source because those links have a better chance of surviving than the UFC honors page which keeps updating every year. For example, previous editors linked a 2021 award to the ufc.com/honors page and the page was updated to 2023, so the source doesn't actually show the winner information, whereas the social media or video source would
This might be the time we can "sparingly" use social media, especially if it comes from a verified UFC account
UFC only updates the honors page but archive didn't do a good job of keeping the old info.
I might have to use social media if the archive is not kept
Hope this is okay and thanks. Good job on updating all UFC awards Marty2Hotty (talk) 12:08, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Right now, even on YouTube, it's hard to find the nominees for 2019 UFC Honors.
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=168121921088383 (example of nominees - and it is hard to find - but official UFC Facebook, verified)
Facebook, UFC's official page, is the only place that has the nominees. I found one article with the winners of fan choice, though. It is very hard to find 2019 winners, so "sparingly", I might have to use these.
Web Archive cannot find 2019 winners on ufc.com/honors. No media outlet reported the winners of UFC Honors, that I can find. Marty2Hotty (talk) 14:56, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It was incredibly hard to find the 2019 Honors nominees and winners, and they are ONLY on facebook from UFC's page. The UFC Honors was a facebook thing. There are no UFC website pages that report the winners or nominees. There are no media outlets that report the nominees or winners. The videos are good for readers to see, I guess. This is the rare exception that we can use social media as UFC Honors is a social media award.
Took me a few hours but I found the links. The titles were unsearchable on Google. Sources for the winners and nominees will have to be from Facebook, BUT the official UFC verified Facebook page. The only place that the nominees and winners were announced. The Ufc.com/honors page changes every year so the old data are not available to be seen on Wikipedia, whereas the Facebook ones are permanent. This is the rare exception I think we can "sparingly" use it.
Luckily, the UFC.com webpages are retained except 2005, but I got Gerbasi to send them to me. Marty2Hotty (talk) 15:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Facebook is social media and cant be used as source. Cassiopeia talk 22:05, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is no other source and UFC Honors are announced on social media pages from their official accounts. I searched. An exception might have to be made here. UFC Honors was meant for fans to vote on social media and even the president's choice award was announced on social media. On UFC.com/Honors, it changes every year, so the archive cannot store the information. This is the rare exception, sadly. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:11, 15 January 2025 (UTC)\[reply]
understand but it is still social media source and can not be used. Cassiopeia talk 02:14, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is the only piece of information that links the award to the fighter for the older years. I can link to an old web archive link but there is no information. Are you able to find it? UFC Honors only posted their results on social media. No media outlet reported and UFC.com only probably posted the award for a short time and it was not archived. It is from the official account. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:20, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.ufc.com/honors/presidential-choice-award
If you go here now, it shows the 2023 award. The 2022/2021/2020 ones are no longer available on the link above. In that situation, what do you do? Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:21, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The alternative is to put a citation without a link.. but a link shows the reader the actual proof of the source. We can cite books without a link, so the same could technically be done, but I think a link for this special award is a special exception.
Also, MMAJunkie, for example, often uses social media on their website articles embedded into the article. Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:23, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#:~:text=Sources%20which%20are%20generally%20unreliable,information%20about%20the%20subjects%20themselves.
cassiopeia, the rules state
"Sources which are generally unreliable may still be useful in some situations. For example, even extremely low-quality sources, such as social media, may sometimes be used as self-published sources for routine information about the subjects themselves."
It says social media can sometimes be used if it's " self published" like the awards here. I think it's okay in this rare instance
I can understand social media cannot be used if it's a random person saying a fighter won an award
Please read the short sentence above and let me know Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:43, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
MMA Junkie in 17 years rarely reports on UFC.com's awards. They only report events, bouts, stats.
Maybe i can link to the old website and put links in the talk page or something if readers want to access very old information Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:47, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
i generally use social media on Wikipedia "sparingly" as you said, if there is no available information everywhere and no reports and if the information is relevant to the person and the social media account itself is verified
Ideally, all information will be published on a website but in 2025, social media is prevalent and i think we have to practice judgment on the accuracy of the source "if absolutely necessary" Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:49, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Put a dead link tag next to the inline citation. If someone can find it than it is good, but if UFC removed the webpage info from their system then it is lost. Not sure it was because they changed their website design a few years ago and some info is not recorded or recorded and stored in other server. If info is important, an article will be written in MMAJunkie or other media sites. Cassiopeia talk

I’m in Croatia, beautiful weather and beaches here HeinzMaster (talk) 13:49, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sounds nice. Anyways, I moved Alice Ardelean to WSW and added a number to Romania/WSW/Total, I think correctly. Also, "Moved Jake Hadley from Flyweight to Bantamweight between "Kleydson Rodrigues" and Daniel Argueta based on debut date. Edited number of fighters in England -1 for Flyweight and +1 for Bantamweight and -1 FLW total UFC fighters/+1 BW total UFC fighters because of the move at UFC 304"

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Albazi. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. 2005 Is when the Awards started. This is a note to my stalker who follows me to every page I post at. To the person following all my edits, https://www.amazon.com/UFC-Encyclopedia-Thomas-Gerbasi/dp/0756683610 - this is a 2011 Encyclopedia by Thomas Gerbasi, senior writer at UFC. He wrote "unofficial" Fight of the Night Awards/Knockout/Submission Awards for all events from 1993 to 2006.

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_UFC_bonus_award_recipients only lists the ones with a bonus award, but I am thinking of putting the unofficial awards on all the pages as well. Perhaps, create a page for the awards too.

The draft is currently being worked on here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:List_of_UFC_encyclopedia_award_recipients - I am taking sources from the book. We can credit the fighters who had strong performance prior to the introduction of the official awards. Marty2Hotty (talk)

New article on athlete

[edit]

Hi, Marty2Hotty

I hope you're doing well. I am currently working on an article about an athlete who is a sambo practitioner with a relatively low-profile MMA career. The athlete has participated in top-level competitions organized by the main body of sambo (FIAS), including the European and World Championships, as well as the World Cup, and earned a bronze medal in one of these events. I’ve gathered reliable sources supporting their accomplishments.

However, I’ve run into an issue regarding notability, particularly concerning the athlete’s bronze medal and how to present this achievement in line with Wikipedia’s notability standards. I created the article initially, but it was blocked because I disrupted regulations while doing so. I’ve returned after two years and want to make sure the article complies with Wikipedia’s standards.

Could you kindly review the article or provide some advice? I’m unsure whether the athlete's achievements meet the notability criteria, especially given the medal’s context.

I’d really appreciate your feedback and any suggestions on how to improve the article.

Thank you for your time!

Best regards.

Hello "Wiseuseraze", I got your username from the history. I do not specialize on notability. Perhaps, you can ask others who are more strict in terms on who qualifies for having a Wikipedia article. Who is the individual? I might be able to give advice, but I am no authority figure in terms of whether an athlete qualifies for a Wikipedia article. I hope you are not associated with the person in any way. Marty2Hotty (talk) 13:23, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. I understand that you're not an expert in notability, and I appreciate your honesty. If possible, could you direct me to any editors who are more experienced with notability issues, particularly for athletes? I would greatly appreciate any help in this regard.
Just to clarify, I am not personally associated with the athlete. I’m working on this project as a hobby, trying to add encyclopedic information about people and places from my country and city to Wikipedia. I find it quite interesting to explore whether an article is eligible, especially after reviewing the notability guidelines for athletes. From what I’ve read, I believe this athlete might qualify for an article.
If it helps, I can also share links to versions of the article in other languages where similar information is available.
Thanks again for your time! Wiseuseraze (talk) 17:25, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some articles that you can review:
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Basic_criteria
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Reviewing_instructions
Cassiopeia might be able to assist you with further questions. If the user cannot, you can refer to the articles above. I understand that there are athletes with little to no information, but if you are able to find strong sources to show that the user is notable, you will be able to publish the article. Earning a bronze medal in one big event might not quality, I think, but you can try.
Peace. Marty2Hotty (talk) 23:50, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
