GA review

With respect to this GA review, I'd like to point a couple of things out to you. Articles don't have to be perfect to become GAs; they just need to meet the GA criteria - see WP:GACN for common mistakes. "Use the release date and duration length templates, like on "S&M" for example." - what's the point of this? It just autoformats the data rather than requiring manual formatting, and in fact would make the article take a longer time to load as more templates are involved. Also, things like accessibility and reference formatting are not at all covered by the GA criteria, so they don't need to be enforced when reviewing GANs - it is still good to point out such issues, but I just want to let you know that they aren't required under the criteria. I don't mean to criticise or patronise you, andsorry if I come across like that (I'm just trying to be helpful). Happy editing. Adabow (talk) 11:03, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Lotus song articles

You've been doing an excellent job on the Lotus song articles! I for one, never expected "Lotus Intro" to have information for a stand-alone article, but I guess I was wrong! It's such a good album, it sucks to see how poorly it did!  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 22:41, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks :-). At first I didn't really like it, but I do now. I love "Just a Fool". AARONTALK 12:27, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Red Hot and Lotus song articles

The funny thing is that the "Critical reception" section was my job, and you just try to "fix it perfectly" to receive a Good Article nomination, trying to do everything "perfect" and changing all the editing that I did, including the "Audio sample," which was took (also from Make the World Move) without telling me (just because of one simple "GA" nomination). This is not good! Of course, the "Background" and "Live performances" were just taken from your article (because it is not necessary to create new informations about the Background in every article, because The Background remains the same). Many editors did with Beyonce's 4 song articles, for example. For the record, I'm also editing Lotus song articles, and Make the World Move, for example, was extended and it was not THAT necessary, taking the edits that I did, and turning them into yours. FanofPopMusic (talk) 01:30, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

What do you mean it's "your job"? You had used sources that I've never seen before, just added quotes, poor MoS and incorrectly formatted references. For example, why on earth did you use a newspaper parameter for MTV?? It needed overhauling as it was not good. You hadn't even distinguished reviews from composition info, which I did. I removed the audio samples because User:J Milburn put non free tags on the articles saying that they were too long, if you had of looked at the revision history for the articles, you would know that, but you obviously didn't and blaming me instead. The background is not the same in every article actually, the ones I've worked on are worded differently and have different information. Again, you've clearly not read them. I'm not turning anything into mine, User:Status will tell you that I originally wrote all of "Make the World Move", "Red Hot Kinda Love", "Let There Be Love", "Lotus Intro" and "Blank Page". You just added a poorly written review section, nothing in comparison to what I've done. Instead, you copied and pasted several sections from "Let There Be Love" which I wrote first and then pasted it into "Army of Me". I wrote that Live performance section, and you copied and pasted it. You're saying about the Backgrounds being the same (although they aren't), yet you haven't addressed the fact that you copied and pasted what I wrote. AARONTALK 11:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Leona's others songs

Do you think there's going to be enough material out there for articles on the charted songs "Forgiveness", "Whatever It Takes", "Take a Bow", "Yesterday", "Here I Am", "The Best You Never Had", "Angel" and "Misses Glass"? At least someone wouldn't come along and AFD them for not having charted! –anemoneprojectors13:44, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm just starting on "Take a Bow" again, I redirected it last April. The only other ones I would say have enough info is "Whatever it Takes". I would love to do one for "Yesterday" because it is simply stunning but I don't think there is enough info to be honest, alike the rest you listed.  — AARONTALK 13:45, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Well done! I have a feeling we're more likely to get more info about her newer songs than these older ones. –anemoneprojectors15:47, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, "Homeless" and "Take a Bow" were hard to do.  — AARONTALK 15:49, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

It's okay. Composition can be combined with it. I think the background will be quite informational. Live performances also need to be added.  — AARONTALK 19:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I expanded the section.  — AARONTALK 20:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (Irish Citizen Army Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  • United States Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  • Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  • Chicago HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of British Empire The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Re Whatever It Takes (Leona Lewis song): we do not need under construction tags for empty articles. Develop your article in user:Calvin999/sandbox and when it is ready, move it into the (article) namespace. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

No, I'll continue doing it the way I and all of editors I know always have.  — AARONTALK 23:28, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Under construction banner was there for a reason. Sure way to piss off a constructive editor like myself.  — AARONTALK 23:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

OK, so what was that reason? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:17, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Because it was under construction...? And I was about 2 minutes away from publishing what I had spent ages doing.  — AARONTALK 17:38, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
If it was two minutes from being published why on earth did you need an under construction tag? What was the probabilty that someone else was going to put up their version in those two minutes? Which of all the editors you know does this? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:57, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation pages

Hello, Calvin999. When you changed Homeless into a disambiguation page, you may not have been aware of WP:FIXDABLINKS, which says:

A code of honor for creating disambiguation pages is to fix all resulting mis-directed links.
Before moving an article to a qualified name (in order to create a disambiguation page at the base name, to move an existing disambiguation page to that name, or to redirect that name to a disambiguation page), click on What links here to find all of the incoming links. Repair all of those incoming links to use the new article name.

It would be a great help if you would check the other Wikipedia articles that contain links to "Homeless" and fix them to take readers to the correct article. Thanks. R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:44, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Greetings, Calvin999. I have undone your change to Homeless. Please do not create disambiguation pages having only two pages; such situations are generally handled with a hatnote. See WP:TWODABS. Also, please do not create disambiguation pages at titles for which there is a clear primary topic. See WP:PRIMARY. If you wish to contest this change, please discuss by proposing your preferred revision through Wikipedia:Requested moves. Cheers! bd2412 T 12:58, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

The bot thinks that the article has existed for a number of years, which it obviously has not, which would make it eligible for a couple of bonus points as part of our encouragement to expand old stubs. stay - Rihanna feat.Mikky Ekko writing credit

Hi, Justin Parker, Mikky Ekko, Quest Management ( MIkky's management company) and Spilt Milk Management ( Justin's Management) have all changed the information about the writing credit which you have then reversed. This song was written over a year ago by Mikky Ekko and Justin Parker only. Elof who we also know, was called into to help produce it at the behest of Mikky Ekko himself. He did not write it. What is written on the booklet is wrong. We have asked Island Def Jam to reverse on the next run of product manufactured. As we asked when we changed it today, please check with Sony Atv Publishing to verify this. This song has been getting tv and synch requests around the world and this inaccurate information is causing a lot of work for us to undo. Another person you can check this information with is Janice Brock who publishes Mikky and Justin in the UK.

Elof's management is Adis Adamson at this company - http://www.ten.se/. We also know him and he can verify this fact with him too. I can give you his personal mail address if you'd like. As i said - i really wouldn't care about this except that its making our workload triple for this track as we keep having to reverse the writer splits for synch etc when we get requests through. I appreciate that you are just being a very diligent wiki guardian.. but this time you are reversing accurate information, and we know all this information as i have been managing Justin for years and we put in the writing session to begin with! Elof wasn't' even in the country when this was written in London!

My name is LIzzie francis. I manage many uk songwriters. My company is Spilt Milk Management in London.

if you want more info just let me know . my mail address is lizzie@spiltmilkmusic.co.uk Mikky's management details are: tony@quest-management.com or mike@quest-management.com ( Tony Beard and Mike Mayer).

many thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.129.187.243 (talk) 02:07, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Until new booklets are produced, or if "Stay" is logged on BMI/ASCAP, and it does not credit Elof, then we will leave his name on the article, as it is currently sourced as so.  — AARONTALK 13:04, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

List of songs recorded by Cheryl Cole

Hey. Of course we can talk here. My concern is that of how the text flows. I know you may disagree, but when I read the lead, I read some sort of indiscriminate collection of randomly chosen facts instead of three paragraphs with a good flow. I see that you have 3 supports, which means that most users agree that the list is up to standard, although I'd like to see some improvement here, before or after the list is promoted (There is always room for improvement). I think that what you have to do is to try to make all sentences somehow connect to each other. — ΛΧΣ21 19:54, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

What do you want to see written in the paragraphs? Information about genres?  — AARONTALK 20:01, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I was just giving examples. You can write what you feel is most important from her songs. The main point is to make whatever is written to have some sort of connection. I would give you a hand there, but then I won't be able to close the FLC. — ΛΧΣ21 20:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Challengable material

The statement that I removed from Music of the Sun is challengable and requires verification. It is based on the assumption that the demo versions of the songs were included on the album. If the information is important enough, a source that can verify it would thereby establish its notability. Otherwise, it isnt an issue to not have the "recorded" parameter of the infobox filled. Hello ... I had checked and thought the prior version (no spaces) was correct, here. Just dropping by to check your thoughts. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:03, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

No.  — AARONTALK 09:36, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
OK. I had thought in a quick check I saw it without spaces. But see now that it is both ways, and looks like more with spaces, and I can't quickly find the official, and this is no help.--Epeefleche (talk) 09:55, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
What? If you had of checked it properly before you made the edit you would have seen you was wrong. It is "Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary" only, not "Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary", so no, both are not correct. And what is the relevance of the link you have provided.  — AARONTALK 10:18, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
I said that I saw it both ways. The relevance is that I was seeking how it was printed when it was published. What -- who said both were correct?--Epeefleche (talk) 10:20, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
You said that it is done both ways, but it's not.  — AARONTALK 18:06, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
That's not true. I did see it reflected the other way.--Epeefleche (talk) 16:00, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
That's a contradictory statement, You did: "I had thought in a quick check I saw it without spaces. But see now that it is both ways."  — AARONTALK 16:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
How is that a contradictory statement? I said that I saw it reflected without spaces -- and I see that it is also reflected with spaces. Your assertion, on the other hand, is flatly incorrect. Where do you see any contradiction whatsoever in my statement?--Epeefleche (talk) 16:41, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Because you said that at a quick check you saw it without spaces, even though it's not. And that after I had pointed it out, you then realised that it does have spaces. You then said that you had seen it both ways to start with. That is contradictory. Anyway, make sure you pay attention to linking before you quickly change things. It was correct to start with, and by your incorrect and quick glance, you made it wrong.  — AARONTALK 17:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Your error

You erred when you said (multiple times) that Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary does not appear without spaces. It does. See for example here and here and here. I have no problem, upon further investigation, with adding spaces as that seems to be more prevalent, and I have not seen an official url either way. But I just wanted to point out your mistake, so that you don't improperly accuse others in the future of mis-statements.--Epeefleche (talk) 17:14, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

We don't go by how critics spell it, we go by how it is spelt on iTunes and the album booklet, as they are official. Furthermore, the article is "Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary", and that is the main thing. So I am still right in the matter. Furthermore, I believe I had closed this conversation.
You didn't say "we don't go by ...", or "yes, you are correct, it appears both ways but ..." You erred, in insisting multiple times that it does not appear both ways. Obviously it does. Anyway -- that's interesting ... iTunes is an RS that is determinative of spelling of song names? Where can I find support for that notion, so I can refer to it in future discussions? Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 17:59, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
It's not my fault if critics misspell it. With spaces is correct, without is not. Nowhere on "Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary" is it written without spaces, so I am still correct. We use iTunes a lot for track listings and song lengths and the booklets for credits and personnel. I am finished with this discussion, again. You're obviously not familiar with music articles.  — AARONTALK 19:30, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2. London Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3. New South Wales Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Alaska Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by British Empire The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Your recent reversion of the edit I made to this article reintroduced an incorrect reference to Chronicle Live, a sports talk TV show which is completely unrelated to the website cited in the reference I modified. This is also why I also removed the link to the network that broadcasts the show. I'm going to re-fix it; please don't revert again. Thanks! 69.181.245.156 (talk) 03:19, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Chartbot review

The bot to repair the Billboard site revision catastrophe has undergone its initial test run (see Special:Contributions/Chartbot). I uncovered a few small bugs in the initial edits, but any that I didn't revert are, to the best of my knowledge, good. If you have any issues with it, Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Chartbot is the place to bring them up.—Kww(talk) 20:45, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey. Would it be possible for you to take a look at the article and provide some feedback on PR raised? I am planning to take this up to FLC for the centenary of Indian cinema in May. One of the editors (User:Tomcat7) has provided some inputs. Any feedback would be appreciated. - Vivvt • (Talk) 18:19, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Dance/Electronic Songs

I think we should not remove Dance/Electronic Songs from S&S charts since there is nothing about this chart on WP:USCHARTS. I also think we should include Dance/Electronic Songs on the Applicable U.S. Charts since it ranks the top-selling electronic dance music singles in the United States through a combination of single sales, digital downloads, club play and radio airplay. That means Hot Dance Club Songs is a componet of Dance/Electronic. Since Dance/Electronic Songs is a new chart I think we should keep both charts.--Albes29 (talk) 12:56, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

I would like to be able to use all US charts, but the rules apply. Dance/Electronic is a form of Hot Dance/Electronic Digital Songs, therefore it is a still a component.  — AARONTALK 13:09, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
It is not like that, Hot Dance/Electronic Digital Songs is a component of Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. This is from the Hot Dance/Electronic Digital Songs page " On January 17, 2013, Billboard added a new chart, Dance/Electronic Songs, which tracks the 50 most popular Dance and Electronic singles and tracks based on club play, single sales, radio airplay, digital downloads, and online streaming. As such, this chart serves as the main component for the Dance Club Songs, Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Dance Single Sales, and Dance/Electronic Digital Songs charts.( http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1510640/new-danceelectronic-songs-chart-launches-with-william-britney-at-no-1 ). If am not wrong the main Dance Chart is the Dance/Electronic Songs. Mostly because Dance/Electronic Songs chart match the methodology applied to The Billboard Hot 100.--Albes29 (talk) 14:48, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
If they are changing the components and introducing new ones then it needs to be raised at WP:USCHARTS.  — AARONTALK 16:19, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Run

Hi. Finally I have free time (one week). Do you have time to do "Run"? Also, why do you think about creating a WikiProject or The X Factor taskforce about Leona Lewis? Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 16:36, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey, yeah I have the time. A wikiproject for X Factor already exists, and I tried making one for Leona, but it didn't get enough support to be created. So I would probably say no for the time being.  — AARONTALK 16:39, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I was busy with 4Chan at Tokio Hotel. OK, then let's stsrt with it. It is possible, with information about the original version, and "Other versions" transformed to prose. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 18:40, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, and there is next to no prose about Snow Patrol, and Leona's could be expanded a LOT. Start tomorrow?  — AARONTALK 18:47, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Exactly. OK with tomorrow, I may make some tweaks today. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 19:06, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah that's fine, I'm going out in a bit so I can't.  — AARONTALK 19:07, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Per DYK/Supplementary ruule: ""Five days old" limit should be strictly enforced only if there is a large backlog of hooks. Otherwise nominated article may still be approved if it was created or expanded after the oldest date". In this case there is a 25 January nomination. The article had aprox. 9,700 characters of prose, now it has 15,000, and just two sections have been improved. With the whole composition section, critical reception, lead, covers from list to prose, music videos, expand Lewis's chart performance, etc. it will have the ±48,500 characters that are needed. Also, we can nominate it if it is not complete, and request a little more of time. It took me one week to finish sourcing and expanding Miguel Ángel Mancera's article after I nominated it. They are more worried about verifiability than time. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 19:30, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

What about Leona's though? It's bound to be different.  — AARONTALK 23:52, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
