Update from JSR

[edit]

I have been trying to bring up mining in India to a fully sourced version and have made some progress. Make sure to take a look whenever you find time :-) JSR 0562 20:54, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New user - small problems

[edit]

Hi, my name is George and I made an account on the English version a few minutes ago. I am a amateur photographer and I will like to put some pictures where I think they are needed. I tried to put one on a page about a village in Netherlands, Eckelrade and apparently I have don't have the rights so far. I would like to know if U can help me in this problem. I have an account on the Romanian version with the same name. I also have a page where I put photos that I like http://haiducul.deviantart.com/ This is just to check me out. I hope I will have an answer soon. All the best, George

P.S. By the way, I appealed to U because I saw U started the article about Eckelrade. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Haiducul (talkcontribs) 13:29, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Academy

[edit]

Today afternoon, I shall be participating in the deliberations of Wikipedia Academy [1], Chennai. For this purpose, I shall be using a different user name also: GBPONDYCHERRY. With this username, I may be editing sandboxes or other sub-user pages of User:Bhadani. Cheers! --Bhadani (talk) 02:41, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was really a nice experience to interact with around 25 persons interested to learn more about Wikipedia. I thank the organizers. --Bhadani (talk) 17:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hats off to your efforts here. There ought to be a Wikipedia page similar to Wikipedia:School and university projects to track the newcomers from these academy meetups. This way others can pitch in to motivate them through the first steps of editing here. I would like to know your thoughts on this. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:30, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gr8 to see you have inspired potential wikipedians in Chennai. I was also planning to attend but had to attend to some other work during that time at the last moment. Anyways Thanks a lot for your efforts -- Tinu Cherian - 13:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update from JSR

With Best Wishes, JSR 0562 13:36, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would appreciate your guidance

[edit]

Hi

As a new wikipedian,I was keen to create two articles on a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada . Both are highly respected societies but I am trepidated to note that there has been some debate as to whether their members merit sufficient notability!!!To my way of thinking they do but I would welcome your advice as an adminsitrator (specially so from Chennai).

Edits required on 'Martial law'

[edit]

The Indian section in the article on martial law is irrelevant and inappropriate; you've commented on the discussion page but just wanted to bring it to your notice again. you're way more senior than most of us here and can obviously do something quicker. thanks! --Sayitaintsojoe (talk) 19:15, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I just saw and recollected my comments on the talk page of Martial law: comments contents contained under the section India is really ridiculous and reveal the highest order of ignorance as well as point of view. This aspect of the Project is its weakest aspect (I mean consensus at the cost of encyclopedic contents) as people who know the correct position face assault if they try to do modifications, and the bogey of consensus comes into play; and consensus is sometimes built in mafia-style by group of editors who drive away good editors. As such, I have generally surrendered myself, and have stopped effective editing of Wikipedia! --Bhadani (talk) 17:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yezidi and their Indian origin

[edit]

There is a person who despite many links and reference that I have given continues to edit my writings (I have no problems with that) and is threatening me with withdrawal of my editing privilege. The person's attitude is found vindictive by me. Please help. I have written by verbatim quoting various sites including official yezidi sites that there is evidence of the origin of the yezidi faith in India. Please help. I am writing to me as you welcomed me to Wikipedia. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 04:21, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Um... you are completely misstating the entire interaction we have had. I have made no threats and have no power to threaten anyone. In addition, you are not responding to my carefully explained concerns about the reliability of your sources and the fact that your work contains significant levels of original research and original synthesis. Ogress smash! 04:48, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The said smash! is a smart operater and indulges in bullying by using pronouns like we, and alludes to write on behalf of Wikipedia. When she failed to intimidate me and I raised the stink she gives explainations. After series of vandalism she has applied for edit protection and got it. She has a much better hang of Wikipedia and therefore I am no match for her. Please help me. Please refer to the following links for details. Please spare your time. Wikipedia looks like it has a anti-India slant, see POK, all because we are all silent. I'll put the links together hold on.

I sincerely convey my thanks and regards to you. I feel that Wikipedia lies deep within my heart. On account of my job-related commitments, I am currently not in a position to add real value to the Project. However, I am confident that despite aberrations of different hues and colours surfacing here, we are a strong community and we shall continue to build the best encyclopedia in the human history - it is just the beginning. I am sure to do much more once I have some little free time. --Bhadani (talk) 16:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bhadaniji, I came to know of you a few months after I signed up with an account here. Initially I was obviously awestruck by your edit-count; only later I learned to appreciate you commitment to the project, the stoic balance you bring to discussions, and the guidance you provide to other editors, even more. Youthful enthusiasm is in abundance on wikipedia, and much needed; but the mature and open-eyed view you bring to the project is necessary too for the encyclopedia+community paradigm to work. I am sure that, whatever the pace of your edits, they will be directed towards improving the encyclopedia. Regards. Abecedare (talk) 17:16, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking help against vandalism

[edit]

Hi Bhadani,

User:Walky-talky is constantly vandalising the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh page. He introduces soapboxy content that does not exist, claiming that it exists in sources. When asked he evades reply. I tried to discuss, plead several times. But he just reverts back things.

A scrap from somebody in his talk page, which he reverted back made me suspect that he is a sock puppet of banned user [User:Kuntanan] [3] From his very first edit he seems to know all rules of wiki. His style of editing seems to confirm my belief.

Please guide me on what I could do.Thanks nihar (talk) 11:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have carefully noted your points. However, I feel that the editor concerned should be allowed to edit in whatever way he/she likes to add/delete content. He will probably get bored and vanish. In the meanwhile, you may continue to modify the content suitably with sources/ references, etc. Currently, I am not editing and will not be of any help in this matter. I request you to seek the assistance of other active editors. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 17:00, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are right Bhadani. I might soon get bored and vanish. However, I am slightly eccentric and so I will keep coming back. I know sane users like you will continue / protect the vandalism I have initiated. Walky-talky (talk) 06:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Nitish Kumar On India Today Cover.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nitish Kumar On India Today Cover.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Problems created by a WP User...

[edit]

Hi Sir,

One user named AlexCovarrubias is typing untrue statements on the article Newly industrialized country. I corrected the information and put a note in the discussion section but he reverted them for no proper reason. He is a Mexican citizen and puts untrue information about Mexico in the article. I got the following facts from two very credible sources. The information is: 1) Mexico is classified as a developing country by the CIA World Factbook. Here is the source: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/appendix/appendix-b.html 2) The planning commission of Government of India classifies only 27.5% (and NOT 77%) of the population as the people under the national poverty line. He has typed the converse of these facts on the page Newly industrialized country. I do not want some body to edit these data and type something amiss (wrong) about any country in particular- India. Please protect the articles- Newly industrialized country, Developing country, Iyengar, and Vadakalai. I will keep you posted of other articles that are subject to mishandling, posting the wrong information, and/or vandalism of any kind. Please prevent this person (AlexCovarrubias) from making edits on Wikipedia (WP). Please protect the contents of WP. Awaiting your urgent attention and help in this regard. Thanks for your time. Hi Bhadani,

I saw that the list of yoga postures page had a redlink to Añjali Mudrā so I went ahead and created this page, not realizing that you had already created a stub for Anjalimudra. I've set up a couple of redirects to Añjali Mudrā from alternative spellings (actually, alternative punctuation and accents) but I didn't want to change an existing page into a redirect without checking with you first. Please advise how we should proceed.

Thank you.

Welcome back, Bhadanaji...!!! you may want to see WP:MBL3 also :) -- Tinu Cherian - 16:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your wishes. I am confident to have a more productive stint this time - in the 5th year (and onwards) of my life as a Wikipedian. Currently, I am on deputation (from Bank of India) to Jharkhand Rural Bank as Regional Manager, Hazaribag Region, Hazaribag. The Region covers four districts, namely, Hazaribag, Chatra, Ramgarh and Koderma. I have extensively toured all the four districts very recently and the life here is very different compared to the developed states of South India where I spent around a decade of my working life. I had lived and worked in this beautiful small town (Hazaribag) long long back in 1975 for about a year. And, thanks once again for welcoming me. It gives a lot of encouragement to learn that friends are watching my page. And yes, Tinujee, I saw WP:MBL3. I am happy to see the same. Sadly, I may not be able to join as I am in the process of understanding my role and the Region. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 17:03, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you have your camera with you on the tours. All four district articles can use some expansion and pictures. Geographical areas outside Karnataka, TN, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra and West Bengal are often poorly covered on wikipedia. Abecedare (talk) 17:14, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Hi! How are you? 19:04, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I read your comments here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pallavaram. I think that the page requires better inputs than deletion. In case, this page is deleted than many such pages of English Wikipedia waiting for better inputs will have to be deleted. As such, I request that such pages should not be deleted rather attempts should be made to develop the contents of such pages. I think you agree with me. --Bhadani (talk) 14:33, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help tracking down a higher resolution picture of the Devadasi dancers

[edit]

Greetings Bhadani, from Australia. My name is Rachel and I am a research assistant looking for heritage photographs of Devadasi dancers for a chapter to be published in an academic work. The Devadasi file you uploaded [4] is lovely - but would it be possible for you to point me to a higher resolution version? With kind regards Rachel —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.187.250.125 (talk) 12:48, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Indira 1974 Smiling Buddha.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Indira 1974 Smiling Buddha.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 21:46, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing datum on an article you wrote

[edit]

In March 2005, you began the article on Vinodini Tarway. However, you did not mention whether or not she is still alive; we do not know whether this article belongs in the category of Biographies of Living Persons.

I hope the rest of 2009 is pleasant for you. DS (talk) 00:49, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Bhadani! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 4 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Cressida Dick - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Aroon Purie - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Rising to your challenge

[edit]

I have written and added to some articles about Rapti Zone based on my travels there as a volunteer in U.S. Peace Corps many years ago, plus new information I've found online and gotten from friends and colleagues. I was posted to Pyuthan Jilla so I've written about the district, Pyuthan Khalanga, the temple at Swargadwari, Dang District and Rapti Zone.

Of course there's much more to do and it would be wonderful if people living there now or recently could correct the errors that have probably crept into what I wrote.

Here is a long list of historic and religious sites in Nepal including dozens in Rapti Zone:

http://www.nepalheritage.org.np/inventoryofheritage.htm#_Toc81987692

I only saw a few of the ones listed for Pyuthan, but it would be great if Wikipedia could get articles about them by local people.

I found your notes on the talk page for Dang-Deukhuri District and throught I should introduce myself. LADave (talk) 16:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Perhaps you can shed more light on this comment? I fully intend on responding, with other issues getting in the way, but I need to take time to peruse the article history and commentary (much of it POV gibberish) to craft an appropriate response. Hi. [5] You started this article in 2005 with Dictionary of Hindu Lore and Legend (ISBN 0500510881) by Anna Dhallapiccola, as the reference. Some of the statements in your draft still remain. Can please let me know the page number of the book to which the statements are referenced. I want to take this to FA in the next few months. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:01, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A brand new editor recently created this stub, which was subsequently tagged as a CSD G3 hoax. I declined the speedy deletion as I don't believe it meets the criteria - seems quite plausible to me. At the same time, I can't find much online to support the existence of this village, and it's not one of those listed in the Baglung District article - which you originally started. I'm curious if you have any insight as to the existence (or non-existence)of this village?--Kubigula (talk) 04:36, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing the issue to me. However, it appears rather difficult to exactly deny or accept the physical existence of this village. We will have to ask editors who are better informed about the district concerned and its villages. After all, any district in Nepal should have a number of villages. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 05:36, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

iHello Bhadani, I am not sure if you will check this site but I am in desperate need of your help. You posted a picture on the Devadasi wiki page. Hi. Probabaly sometime back, you had asked me the source. I regret that I could not respond at that time. I had scanned the picture from a book as the copyright has since expired. Why did editor Moonriddengirl ( http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Moonriddengirl#Bhurshut ) delete the rewritten post which had no copyright problem? Elsewhere you say there is no issues if the article was rewritten and so was it done to avoid any possible copyright violation. A tag has been placed on User talk:Pizzahut2, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Require help on article Barabanki district

Hi! I need some help on the article's history section. A user insists on removing a piece of information from the article. He thinks it is trivial. He insists using barabanki.nic as current W:RS for article. I have been insisting that info is relevant, etc. Can you check whether it is so? May be the user is correct but I'm not sure whether a piece of info which is properly sourced is all together non-worthy to be allowed little space in article. May be I'm incorrect, I just want issues at the article to be sorted out, either way. --Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 08:27, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Alok Kumar Misra has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 21:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. I have added a reference and would try to improve the article. --Bhadani (talk) 05:17, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't think a commercial website counts as reliable since the subject's importance is related to being the Chairman of that company. Look for news articles (not press releases), etc that have no relationship to the subject. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 05:39, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. I am trying to collect some more references. Here in India, the problem is different. Even an important person may have negligible web presence, the easiest source of reference whereas in countries like France or the UK, even a flower vase in a soap opera will have 100s of references :) --Bhadani (talk) 07:02, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ignited Minds has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article appears to fail the criteria of WP:BK for notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. (talk) 23:25, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is fine if the article in its current form does not meet WP:BK, it will surly be deleted. There is no issue as such. Probably, the community, at a future time, may be able to create a better article on this book conforming to WP:BK guidelines! --Bhadani (talk) 12:45, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For future reference. --Bhadani (talk) 14:17, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Kelly hi! 17:40, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. --Bhadani (talk) 18:36, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
However, I recollect that the image is from the site of the Smithsonian Institute, and a number of their images may be used for non-profit entities like Wikipedia. I am sure that you have carefully taken this aspect and made an in-depth study of the rules and regulations pertaining to lowering of copyright parameters by the Smithsonian Institute for such a purpose. I am afraid that if a proper stand is not taken in the matter, the deletion would tantamount to removing something from the “sum total of human knowledge” as propagated by our Projects to solicit donations from the public. And, in my opinion, it is really wastage of time to notify the initiator of a page on Wikipedia about deletion as the originator does not own the page once it is created! --Bhadani (talk) 19:10, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could I ask for your assistance? Two users by the names of Twilight Chill & Tuscumbia are vandalizing the History of Azerbaijan by removing citations to scholarly texts indicating that Azerbaijan was a part of Iranian territory for thousands of years: any serious student of history knows this, and the books cited to are from the Near Eastern Studies Department of a major University. Nevertheless, they keep removing citations from books (and rewriting history). It requires the oversight of someone such as yourself. Thank you for your assistance (and great quote from Robert Frost ... "and Miles to go before I sleep ...").

The article Padmanabhapuram Palace has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced, poor style and no indication of notability. Also written as if it may be a copyvio.

╟─TreasuryTagChancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster─╢ 11:41, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Padmanabhapuram Palace for deletion

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. ╟─TreasuryTagstannary parliament─╢ 11:29, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Bank of Bombay.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Bank of Bombay.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:18, 24 May 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Damiens.rf 18:18, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Free rationale for File:Ignited Minds.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ignited Minds.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. I've sent a message via your blog, but just in case you fail to receive it, I will also post it here.

My name is Hannah and I am an MSc student at Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. I am currently working on my thesis titled ‘The Relationship between Quality of Collaborative Knowledge and Authorship: A Comparative Case Study of Google Knol vs. Wikipedia’. I’m aiming to compare quality of articles from Google Knol and Wikipedia and I need your help in identifying what authors do to make sure they write the best quality article.

If you agree to participate, you will be interviewed via email, Skype or any other means of your choice.

With your help, I hope to learn about the impact that the unique structural design of the two services have on article quality and thus hopefully for the Internet industry, increase awareness of the implications of design choices for the quality of user-generated content.

All data you provide will be anonymised and stored confidentially. You may withdraw at any time without prejudice and without providing a reason. In the event of withdrawal, data you already provided will immediately be removed.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at hannah.kim@oii.ox.ac.uk. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

Delicatue nominated for deletion

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Delicatue, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

it has multiple issues that are listed on the talk page

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cynwolfe (talk) 16:10, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Hussainabad block requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor

About me: I have been a Wikipedia editor since 2005, and have a background in film, video and audio. My userpage can be found here: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Victorgrigas

Yes Victor, I feel delighted. Thanks. I had replied to your mail received in this connection. We shall remain in touch. --Bhadani (talk) 16:46, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indian villages

[edit]

Hi Bhadani. I saw you wrote "some one should create pages for each village" as an edit summary on the Sheikhpura district article. I agree that we should eventually have a page for each town/village, and I think it should be linked to from tehsil sites (which still need to be finished... I'm working on the maps now). We should probably start organizing a village page creation campaign eventually, and keep it organized amongst one another, since it's a huge job that will last for years. An example of what it could look like is this page, which is one of the two subdivisions (what they call tehsils up there) of North Sikkim district, listing every single village in the subdivision (admittedly very few -- it's North Sikkim, after all), the info for which I found here -- the only site I've seen which lists every village in India. I stopped making those articles, though, because I figure they might eventually release the census info for each village, and it's best to wait until then. Have you heard any info on if they plan to release village population figures?

Cheers, Bhadani. PhnomPencil (talk) 14:04, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and nice to hear from you. I have seen your contributions for last few days - yes, last few days as for many quarters, I have remained mostly inactive on Wikipedia. I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, as also your response to the "summary" indicated above by you; and, I do understand that it is a mammoth task to create even a stub of few sentences for each village of India. Yes, it will take years and involvement of many editors shall be required and the efforts will have to be coordinated well and efficiently. As rightly suggested by you, tehsils will have to be completed first and villages have to be linked to them. In a state like Jharkhand, administrative sequence is more or less like this: State - Divisions headed by an IAS Officer - Districts headed by an IAS officer Sub-Divisions headed by an Sub-Divisional Officer belonging Jharkhand Civil Service - Big and small urban and semi-urban cities/ towns - Community Development Blocks headed by a Block Development Officer belonging Jharkhand Civil Service- Panchayats having elected Mukhias, etc. - Villages. There are a number of other administrative and elected functionaries. As regards, the release of village by census data, I do not have any information. I will have to up-date myself and we should watch for the release of the same, if not released till date. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 14:40, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Revival of COTM

[edit]

Hi,

You may be aware that Collaboration of the Month has been revived by members of WP: India. For January 2012 there are 2 articles - Indian COTM - Premchand and Indian COTM for GA - Mahatma Gandhi. As a senior and respected editor you are requested to partake in this activity. Cheers, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 15:22, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my notice. For almost last 3 years, I am not in active touch with Wikipedia and so as a novice, I am trying to have a feel. I shall certainly try to contribute to the two articles mentioned by you. Best! --Bhadani (talk) 15:25, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sir, WCI 2011 recognised you as a "Noteworthy Wikipedian" - that was wrong. Your not just a Noteworthy Wikipedian but a Legendary Wikipedian in my opinion! Any contributions from this legendary novice are welcome. We would appreciate if as a "father figure" you could help some of the new editors taking part in this activity. Nice to hear about the winter, reciprocating your Warm Regards, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 10:34, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Bhadani,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 15:50, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Raghubar Das. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:11, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, are you sure a 3-hour block is sufficient? This user has just come off a 3-month block, and has resorted to a large amount of vandalism, including BLP on at least two pages stating that Danny Dyer is leader of a group of criminals called Millwall Bushwackers known for football hooliganism, riots, fighting and arson. Please could you consider extending the block. Thank you.  ⊃°HotCrocodile…… + 14:53, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. I will extend it to around 2 weeks. In case, after two weeks, vandalism continues, the community/ administrators may decide further course of action. --Bhadani (talk) 15:36, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
