Duplicate words
Hi! I can't count the number of times you've removed a duplicated word for me (most recently here), just wanted to thank you for that! Clearly I'm totally blind to them in preview mode – I think that's a known phenomenon when there's a word at the end of line and the same word at the strat of the next, but I just don't seem to see them at all (until they're pointed out to me, that is). So, many, many thanks – and thanks for all the other good stuff you do, too! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:47, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Justlettersandnumbers - I'm just a little WikiGnome doing what we gnomes do.
What bemuses me is that most browsers these days include spelling and grammar checks, do people turn them off? (I could point out the word is start, not strat, but I'm too polite to do that!)
Anyway - thanks again - and happy editing - Arjayay (talk) 18:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)- The damned spell-check/auto-complete messes with about half of what I write, constantly substituting wrong spelling for correct. I don't have a duplicate-word detector, and wouldn't use a grammar-checker if I were paid, in the conceited certainty that my grammar is better that that of those who programmed the thing. So your help is much appreciated! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:59, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Justlettersandnumbers - I totally agree about auto-correct and auto-complete - I once made an application for a new borehole, there being no mains water, and the auto-systems changed "borehole" to "brothel" throughout the entire document - fortunately I caught it, before sending it, although a friend pointed out the possible association of ideas! Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 20:56, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

IMDb is non reliable as per WP:IMDB. This source clearly says "Vijay-starrer Beast managed to earn Rs. 227.3 crores worldwide, according to IMDb" [1]. Therefore remove this link as it is unreliable. 103.70.199.87 (talk) 01:25, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Parsan, Chitral
If you look at the history, I had reverted the hijacking, and was waiting for the article to be moved back. It was the article on Mirkhani Valley which User:Chitral view hijacked & moved (in a double move) to Parsan, Chitral. The relevant parts of the history are here. I had warned him about another hijacking earlier in the day, but he always ignores warnings (including some from you). Obviously WP:CIR, so I have reported the problem to WP:ANI - David Biddulph (talk) 19:01, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, BHOLA RAI. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Varoon2542 (talk) 15:18, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Varoon2542 - shame I'm allergic to cats!
There have been multiple editors, over a long period of time, trying to falsify the religion statistics on the Mauritius, Religion in Mauritius and Hinduism by country pages, usually trying to take the Hinduism figure over 50%. Thanks for keeping an eye out for such vandals - Arjayay (talk) 15:38, 7 February 2023 (UTC)- Hope the kitten doesn't make you cough and swell to death !
- The current census is on its way. The figures can be updated when the new results will be published. In the meantime, the 2011 census figures are the only authoritative results. I'm also from a Hindu background but I only care about accuracy when it comes to wikipedia articles

I made the article in 2016, but it disappeared in 2023
Hello Arjayay, I made the article Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu on english Wikipedia in 2016, but it disappeared in 2023. I can't understand why. Please help me restore this article. This article is available in other languages at Wikipedia: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki Aliaksandr Aliakseïew ru.wikipedia.org/wiki Алексеев, Александр Алексеевич (фотограф) be.wikipedia.org/wiki Аляксандр Аляксеевіч Аляксееў All the best Aivarris Aivarris (talk) 12:18, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry Aivarris, but there is no record of their ever having been an article called Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu on the English Wikipedia (maybe it was spelled differently?), so it can't be restored. You have made 23 edits since your account was created in 2014, although your first edit was in 2016, and none of your edits have been deleted, as seen here
I have no idea who Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu is/was and only create articles for subjects I am particularly interested in. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 13:12, 8 February 2023 (UTC)- Thank you for the answer Aivarris (talk) 13:25, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Revert on Dr.Karunanidhi's original name
Hi you reverted my change on Dr.Karunanidhi's original name
https://www.britannica.com/biography/Muthuvel-Karunanidhi
Please see above. He was born Dakshinamoorthy and changed his name because of the Darvidian movement in Tamilnadu
Thanks Peelusrinivasan (talk) 16:41, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your post Peelusrinivasan
As stated in my edit summary "misconception - see "early life" section". This section states- "There was some misconception that his birth name was Dakshinamurthy, later changed to Karunanidhi as influenced by Dravidian and rationalist movements, Karunanidhi himself stated that C.N. Annadurai asked him to keep his birthname "Karunanidhi", since it is already popular among the people."
- I may have misunderstood the statement " asked him to keep his birthname "Karunanidhi" " but that reference is based on a now-deleted video, so we cannot check. Given that the name has been described as a "misconception", whilst Britannica is not much more reliable than Wikipedia - (also see Wikipedia:Errors in the Encyclopædia Britannica that have been corrected in Wikipedia).
I don't know where that leaves us. - Arjayay (talk) 17:24, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Redirect terms
Thanks for restoring those. If you haven't seen many such redirects before, it is probably because people don't pay attetion to how many rivers, mountains and passes lurk around in pages. They are almost the norm in all the Himalayan and Tibetan pages. Now that the Sino-Indian border is quite "live", they are all important. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 15:30, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Kautilya3 - The problem is that so many India-related pages just have random words picked out in bold. I know that redirects should be in bold in the target article, but I think there should be a way of marking these to save hours of checking. Perhaps there should be a hidden text <!-- redirect --> after each redirect target?
The other problem is that having words "legitimately" in bold, without any explanation to the reader as to why it is in bold, makes it look like it is acceptable to embolden words, so editors who don't know (i.e. most of them) just add random bold to the article about their village/school/favourite film. End of rant - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 15:47, 16 February 2023 (UTC)- I can try to add comments stating they are redirect terms. But it is kinda obvious that names of rivers, peaks and mountain passes are potential search terms. It is better than having a hundred stubs like this, which will never go anywhere. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:06, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

RM - Hoshangabad
Hi Arjayay. Based on this recent RM, Hoshangabad was 'not moved' to Narmadapuram. However, as highlighted by you in the RM, Hoshangabad district was incorrectly moved to Narmadapuram district, without any discussion. The article should be moved back to its common name - Hoshangabad district, and I don't believe a RM is needed for it since the earlier move was without consensus. Request NPOV
I received a request from the Minnesota History Project to review the Dakota War article. I did and responded it was in need of a complete rewrite. The existing article has a poor lead for an Encyclopedia article. It fails to introduce a chronology that leads to a summation of the hostilities. The body lacks balance, substance, neutrality, and precision. Presentism is given undue weight that is not properly identified or discussed citing biased sources. I did a rewrite that I posted only to have it reverted immediately. It was not reverted for pov, ci, accuracy, or vandalism. The revert was for "too much at one time". From that I learned the article has two primary editors. It is my opinion that both have NPOV issues and one has taken ownership of the article. The other should have a COI tag for all articles related to the Dakota War as they have a problem with neutrality. The upside to that revert was I continued to work on the balance of the rewrite.User:Mcb133aco/New sandbox I have reached the point where I would like a outside input, actually I very much need it. I have asked a number of editors now, to no avail. It is large, however a review of other "war" articles shows that they all are way over the Wiki preferred standard. Thank you for your time and thoughts.Mcb133aco (talk) 18:47, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk) 18:47, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Deletion
Dear Why you dell article from this Fahidwaqas786 (talk) 09:35, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Fahidwaqas786 - Firstly please don't put your post in the middle of an existing post about a different subject.
- As for your question, I did not delete the article Lala, Narowal I deleted the long list of people without a Wikipedia article that you added. I then explained why on your talk-page " a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists."
I note that you ignored that explanation and re-added those people together with other unsourced claims. I have, therefore, had to delete these and havere-issued a warning about adding people without Wikipedia articles, and added a warning about unsourced additions and changes. - All information added to Wikipedia articles should be sourced to a reliable source where the accuracy of that information can be checked, or as we would say, verified.
Wikipedia is only interested in what published reliable sources have already said about a subject, and these need to be properly cited. Please see Referencing for beginners for how to do that. Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 14:28, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Melsolh - I assume you are talking about this edit made on User talk:149.3.154.3, the talk page of a previously blocked vandal - so I obviously wonder if you are, or have some connection to, the same vandal?.
The edit [2] made back on 16 January 2023, made numerous, totally unsourced, claims, such as " on February 3rd, 2022 Judge Charbel Bousamra irrevocably and fully dismissed these accusations." such a claim needs reference(s) from reliable, independent sources published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking - No blogs, no self-published sources, no bodies with a conflict of interest, no promotional sites no vanity publishers, no predatory publishers.
These sources must be properly cited in order to support any information added to, or changed in our pages, so the information can be verified as true in the future.
If you are unclear, please see WP:reliable sources and Help:referencing for beginners - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 20:30, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

- TheruralGuy - I am reverting your edits, as I have repeatedly explained to you, because they contravene Wikipedias rule of WP:NOINDICSCRIPT The first few edits you made, were probably an innocent mistake, because you were probably unaware of WP:NOINDICSCRIPT. However, having explained it to you, you continued to add Indic script, and after further warnings, you started deleting hidden text, that told you not to add Indic script, and promptly added even more Indic script. You, therefore, cannot say that you were unaware of WP:NOINDICSCRIPT, having been warned on your talk page and by the hidden text you removed.
As for your post above, I suggest you read WP:No personal attacks - Arjayay (talk) 17:55, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Word count
Hi @Arjayay, I saw you added a WP:PLOTSUM banner to the Sorority Row article because the summary went over the recommended 700 words-limit. As MOS:PLOTLENGTH says, "There is no universal set length for a plot summary, though it should not be excessively long." It also says, "However, particularly complex plots may need a more lengthy summary than the general guidance." I’ve further reduced the word count by removing as many details possible. If it still isn’t sufficient, then I welcome suggestions on what specifically should be removed without making the summary confusing or awkward to read. Spectrallights (talk) 16:22, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry Spectrallights, I read your post on my phone and then when I got to my desk-top, I forgot to reply. As I have never seen Sorority Row, it would be inappropriate for me to make changes. MOS:FILMPLOT states "The summary should not exceed the range unless the film's structure is unconventional, such as with non-linear storylines, or unless the plot is too complicated to summarize in this range" The plot appears to be linear, and does not too look complicated from the synopsis. Hi Arjayay,
Thanks so much for correcting my duplicate word in this article! Just wanted to give you a heads up that I've reverted part of the edit (re. the street name) to be closer to what the article originally looked like. This is because the street sign actually reads the Coast Salish name instead of the English one.

disruptive Italian IP range and user
This one is the same disruptive Italian IP range [3]... Thanks for the reverts. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:29, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Fylindfotberserk, this isn't my usual Sicilian vandal, who sometimes crosses to the mainland. An Italian-based pro-Sikh vandal ? - I've checked and it is not a proxy - probably need to apply for a range-block - Arjayay (talk) 11:38, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, an Italian-based pro-Sikh vandal. Yesterday, while requesting for a PP at Ludhiana district, I talked about rangeblocking, but obviously we have to do it at ANI. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:00, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
Question
Hello, I'm sure you know this by now, but there are a lot of fluctuating 93* IPs that geolocate to Italy that have been vandalizing South Asian articles in Wikipedia for about a year, and occasionally they have made accounts to serve that purpose such as [4]. Their MO being to make random, unsourced changes to figures and percentages within articles. I've reported some of these IP ranges to AIV, but they always seem to return with yet another range. I've also noticed that you have given a lot of warnings on these IPs' talk pages. My question is: why not report these IPs and accounts to AIV instead of giving them warnings on the talk page; they're clearly never going to change or stop, they've been at it for almost a year and have received hundreds of warnings, but we can reduce the number of IP ranges at their disposal with the hope that they'll eventually be forced to stop. Thanks. Southasianhistorian8 (talk) 13:22, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Southasianhistorian8 Thanks for your post - I haven't actually noticed a pattern in the 93* IP adresses, so have not been looking for a range - Have you kept a record of the IPs and/or the pages they attack? If so, perhaps you could suggest some ranges? Admins usually require multiple specific examples before range blocking, including seeing how much collateral damage such a block would inflict.
I have a particular problem with a Sicilian IP hopping vandal, but so far (famous last words) they have not attacked India-related articles, and none of their IPs are 93*.
I considered reporting the account you linked to above, but did not, as they had no warnings at all before I came across their edits, and some admins will dismiss such reports as "insufficiently warned", or "no vandalism since final warning" making them more difficult to block later on. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 13:48, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for correcting my mistake re: Draft:Vladimir Aleksandrovich Savenok
Thank you for correcting my mistake. 10 years ago at NAMM I took photos of guest musician with Take 6 band after their show in 2013. After the show we spoke and I saw his prosthetic leg and listened to the story of his survival as a disabled musician. He soon left and never came back to US. Later I found him on YouTube and this year I watched him with Poyushchiye Gitary again and I was carried away after watching his performances... he is still active performing now during the War in Ukraine, and knowing that he was almost killed by russian police and is still standing and singing songs for peace!!! The draft was just my effort to give this disabled musician a chance on Wikipedia. I am not a very experienced editor, and may miss things being disabled (vision and amputee) myself. Your diligent supervision is highly appreciated! Steveshelokhonov 02:05, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Syed Abdul Hameed Dewani
Syed Abdul Hameed Dewani was a politician turned Jihadi/militant from Bandipora, Kashmir. He hijacked the Air India Plan, which landed in Lahore Pakistan. He was arrested in Pakistan and later involved in political struggle. Interestingly He worked in both Indian and Pakistani military. He is the topic of discussion while books written on him are available, but his information is not updated in Wikipedia. How his information can be updated in Wikipedia because I have a dozen books written on his life. Thank You Letseejnk (talk) 19:45, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

If, and only if, that article is accepted, then you can add him to relevant lists. - Arjayay (talk) 20:23, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Hamirpur and related articles
Hi, looks like this IP range is here to promote his relatives. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:22, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Fylindfotberserk - you say "here to promote his relatives" which I do not understand.
You also say "range" but have only linked one IP - from Omaha, Nebraska. Widening the range to /32 shows lots of other edits, but only one other IP, with any edits relating to India, a single edit at Talk:Flag of India.
I deleted the IPs edits at Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh at 16.55, but their other edits have not been deleted. I know nothing about the people listed, other than they do not have Wikipedia articles, and know nothing about the cited web-site, although it looks promotional. What do you know about the people and/or the website? - Arjayay (talk) 18:50, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- I couldn't find anything about these 'freedom fighters' in a prelim search, I'll try to dig deep tomorrow. As of now we have a non-HISTRS promo website. The range or may be the person is using proxies, but they are from the US. Some of their edits [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]. Seems like they have been doing it for sometime now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:07, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Fylindfotberserk. So we have three IPs from Omaha, Nebraska using Cox Communications, and one from Madison, Wisconsin (420 miles away) using Comcast cable; however, according to a proxy search, none of them are proxies. They have been making these additions since March '22. Given the slow rate of additions, and different locations, I cannot see a rangeblock would work, as it would be unlikely to be for more than a few weeks/months. Our advantage seems to be that they only attack a very limited range of articles. Please let me know if your search uncovers anything. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 22:01, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- I was able to find a few news sources [11] and some books [12], but they are not HISTRS. These sources at max can be used to draft an article on the subject and then including them in the list of notable persons, but nothing is History Section worthy IMO. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:27, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Fylindfotberserk. I think the Wisconsin IP is unrelated, as I can see no additions of Rani Rajendra Kumari or Dewan Shatrughan Singh, which seem to be the names that they are trying to promote. I have, however, saved searches for both names. Please note, we do not "draft an article on the subject and then including them in the list of notable persons," as only people with articles are eligible, and we never link to draft articles in any case. - Arjayay (talk) 12:50, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info on the Wisconsin IP. By including them, I meant draft then reviewed then include, but it wouldn't be easy now. I mean these two [13] [14] have been deleted from mainspace twice. Would require a lot of good sources. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:59, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
Another topic. Looks like the same person readded the content [15] using an Irish proxy. You have reverted them here, that time the IP was from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, possibly the real IP. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:52, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk I'm not sure where your claim of "Irish proxy" comes from? According to my checks it is from Washington DC and is not a proxy ? - Arjayay (talk) 20:00, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Whois Gateway shows geolite2 as Ireland and geo_ipinfo as Forest City, North Carolina, US. IP has restored the exact content that the IP from China / Rawalpindi, Pak / Sanjwal, Pak (per various trackers) added → [16], which you reverted. Perhaps some sort of meatpuppetry? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:11, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

- Wikipedia is not interested in who you are, what you own, nor what your "expertise in the field" may be (at least one Nobel Prize winner has been temporarily blocked in the past)
- Wikipedia is only interested in what has already been published in reliable, independent sources, published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking - No blogs, no self-published sources, no bodies with a conflict of interest, no promotional sites, no vanity publishers and no predatory publishers.
- You were advised not to link to user-pages, but you ignored that advice, and added another such link, so were advised again
- You were advised on Wikipedia's policy on conflict of interest editing, but you ignored that advice and re-added material about you and your book, so were advised again
- You seem to be trying to use Wikipedia to promote yourself, your book and your concepts, which is not what Wikipedia is for, and, if you continue, you are highly likely to be blocked

Wikipedia is only interested in what has already been published in reliable, independent sources published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking - No blogs, no self-published sources, no bodies with a conflict of interest, no promotional sites no vanity publishers, no predatory publishers.
These sources must be properly cited in order to support any information added to, or changed in our pages, so the information can be verified as true in the future.
The responsibility for providing citations is solely on whoever adds or changes any information, to provide references from reliable sources that support those additions or changes.
You are repeatedly failing to do this, which is why your edits have been, and will continue to be, reverted, until you do add proper references.
Please see Help:Referencing for beginners for the "how to" guide. - Arjayay (talk) 19:50, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
