June 2023
[edit]Hello, I'm Arjayay. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, First Mithridatic War, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 11:27, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- When I edited the first mithridatic war, I simply provided the sum of all the deaths in the conflict. 75,000 Roman soldiers, 150,000 ponic soldiers and 100,000 Roman civilians killed in the mithridatic massacres. Together, they make up 325,000 dead so I didn't think I needed to provide a source. Romulus Cyrus (talk) 05:39, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Reliable sources and citation formatting
[edit]Hello there. A random web page like Necrometrics.com is not a reliable source (eg citation of T A Dodge's 19th century books; the section on the Cimbric war blatantly violates WP:CIRCULAR). Especially for featured articles, take care in assessing the reliability of claims that you add to articles; the best sources are modern academic sources written by professionals in classical studies.
Many articles also already have established citation styles. In this instance, it would be a bibliography and SFN-only style. Those styles should be retained and edits made consistent with them. Ifly6 (talk) 14:01, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Battle of Carrhae into Crassus' invasion of Parthia. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 03:14, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Nomination of Octavian's march on Rome for deletion
[edit]The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Octavian's march on Rome until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

Copying Within - New Pages - July 2023
[edit]Hi there, and welcome to Wikipedia. It is good to have new and enthusiastic editors here, and you really are very welcome. However, in editing Wikipedia, you will find there is a lot to learn about how we do things, and I just want to bring something to your attention, so that you can better focus your edits.
As per DanCherek's message above, when we copy text from one page to another, it is very important that we keep the attribution to where the text was copied from. Please have a read of WP:COPYWITHIN for more details. Also, it is not a good idea to copy text from one page to create essentially the same article (or part of the article) but under a new title. These create redundant forks of the content. A redirect is sufficient to point to where the article may be found, if you think there is a better title for those.
How about getting some experience of actually editing the existing articles before attempting to create new versions of these. Editing the articles will be a great way to get to know the community and gain experience as you go.
Happy editing. Sirfurboyđ (talk) 08:09, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 11
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Liberators' civil war, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Legio VI. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ ⢠Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 18:10, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Caesarians
[edit]Re reversions on at 1 and 2. I agree with the reverter. Please don't add teleological factions such as "Caesarians". By 43, Julius Caesar is dead; his mantle is claimed by multiple people and for different reasons. Most academic sources describe the events in terms of leaders rather than "factions". Recreation of a recognisably Caesarian faction occurs at the end of the war with the lex Titia. Anachronistic teleology (especially around Antony who became more radical because of Octavian's assumption of the Caesarian mantle) should be avoided. Ifly6 (talk) 21:37, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
