Consider archiving now
You should consider archiving your talk page now, because it contains an entire year of discussions.
Please do the following steps while archiving:
- Go to oldid 933439795 and copy all of its text onto a new page titled User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2019/July-December, with all of the text above the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Online Multiplayer listed at Redirects for discussion" section header replaced with {{archive|User talk:Anthony Appleyard}}.
- Merge all of this user talk page's edits from last year (23:58, 31 December 2019 and earlier) to the history of User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2019/July-December.
- Move this user talk page's remaining history to User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2020/January-June.
- From the page User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2020/January-June, replace all of the text above the '"St Peter's Square (disambiguation" listed at Redirects for discussion' section header with {{archive|User talk:Anthony Appleyard}}, and also remove this latest section I am adding here.
- After moving (without redirect), this user talk page should now (temporarily) be a redlink. All of the "permanent matter" (i.e. the "Temp links" section and everything above it) as well as this section I am adding here should be copied back to here.
- Finally, links to User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2019/July-December and User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2020/January-June should be added to User talk:Anthony Appleyard/Archives.

- @GeoffreyT2000: Done Thanks for reminding me. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:43, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh, and one more thing: You should also move the "How to deal with some old edits in a deleted draft" section from the top of User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2020/January-June to the bottom of User talk:Anthony Appleyard/2019/July-December, because it is clearly from last year. Ajay Devaloka
Hi Anthony,
Can you please restore Ajay Devaloka · ( talk | logs | history | links | watch | afd ) · [revisions] which you deleted as spam recently? It does not appear to be very spammy, and it does have a lot of revision history by several editors including yourself, suggesting that at least some revisions are OK. 23:01, 5 July 2020 (UTC) User:Graeme Bartlett

Hi Anthony, thank you for your corrections, but SBB is a graphic designer and editor so 'books edited and selected' are quite important. I will go through them, and the list of exhibitions, with Stuart today to edit them / cut them down. We were going to do that anyway, but I suppose you guys are faster! Reason for revert
Hello, just wanted to pass along that I reverted your move at Cal State Northridge Matadors because our WikiProject goes off of common name. A rebrand a that occurred few days ago will take some time before the media starts to go with the schools' preferred name. Thanks, Corky 09:10, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Undelete and move Talk:Lost and Found (2016 movie)
The page Talk:Lost and Found (2016 movie) has some deleted history that belongs at Talk:Lost and Found (2016 Indian film).
To make the history appear at the right place again, you should then do the following two steps:
- Undelete Talk:Lost and Found (2016 movie).
- Move Talk:Lost and Found (2016 movie) to Talk:Lost and Found (2016 Indian film) without redirect, deleting the existing target page during the move.

Hey Anthony Appleyard, I came across Talk:Bhut jolokia and Talk:Naga Bhut Jolokia today, and I can't work out what's required to unscrew them... It looks like Naga Bhut Jolokia was moved to Bhut jolokia ages ago, but the talkpage was left behind. I think it requires a histmerge to fix, but given I have no idea figured I'd ask rather than just list it. Thanks, --Jack Frost (talk) 11:21, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

I noticed you indefinitely semi-protected Black sheep back in 2011 due to vandalism. Perhaps it might be worth it after 9 years to unprotect it, especially as the vandals seem long gone. Thanks!

Dear Anthony,
Please consider this request to have Kobi's draft approved. Kobi Arad is currently blacklisted, and this blacklisting was removed by you last year, as requested by User:ComplexRational. The page stood online without any issues for nearly one year, until another editor removed it claiming that undisclosed paid editing was involved. This time we would like to get it right and avoid all paid editors.
As a friend and long-time fan of Kobi Arad, I would like to clearly and unequivocably disclose my conflict of interest. I am a fellow jazz musician who is in no way paid to edit Wikipedia for him. Kobi had previously tried to hire paid editors to publish his Wikipedia page, but this was rejected by the community.
Kobi is already on the German Wikipedia and many other language versions of Wikipedia, and he clearly meets notability standards. German Wikipedia's notability requirements are actually stricter than the English Wikipedia's notability requirements, so there is no reason Kobi Arad should be blacklisted from the English version.
All we are doing this time is to translate the currently existing Wikipedia pages in German and other languages and adding a few minor updates to the discography in an effort to bring non-English Wikipedia content to the English Wikipedia content.
You can request to run CheckUser checks on me to confirm that I am not related to any of the other previous paid editors.
We would also like you to look at the amount of news and notability and collaborations with many other related artists of similar notability and not decline due to COI, since we are clearly disclosing the COI. Kobi has numerous music awards and is clearly meets encyclopedic notability criteria.
Thanks and blessings from your fellow jazz musicians.

- Salted pages at Kobi Arad and Draft:Kobi Arad. Proceed with caution. Primefac (talk) 23:16, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, this was salted before for good reason. The past paid editors had created a mess, and we would like to fix this with the Wikipedia community's full consensus and approval. Kobi and I want to engage directly with the community and not pay anyone to do anything that would violate the WMF's terms of use. Thank you all. MosheKabbalisticSefer (talk) 23:20, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- The fact that he has an article in other language is completely irrelevant. The English Wikipedia has more stringent standards for inclusion.
- I have changed the create-protection of Kobi Arad so that any extended-confirmed reviewer who approves the draft can move it to main space.
- This new draft bears little resemblance to the paid versions, so it deserves a fresh look by a reviewer. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:44, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
20th Television merge
Hey Anthony,
I'm hoping I did this right, but basically, 20th Television was merged into 20th Century Fox Television and both renamed to 20th Television. Merging the old, smaller 20th Television article into "20th Century Fox Television" (since that's the main studio and primary article); and then renaming it to "20th Television" doesn't seem controversial. So, I've gone ahead and merged the content.
If you don't see any concerns, please do the histmerge and then rename the surviving article (20th Century Fox Television) ---> 20th Television. — Starforce13 05:09, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Starforce13: Sorry :: if 20th Television and 20th Century Fox Television are the only pages involved, history-merge between them is not possible because of WP:Parallel histories. 09:20, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for confirming. I suspected that might be the case, but I wanted to be sure before the page move is done. — Starforce13 09:29, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Fictional organizations designated as terrorist requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. - @C1K98V: Sorry, Not done, these 2 pages are WP:Parallel histories. And these 2 pages are very different at any possible supposed cut-and-paste point: see this file-compare. It seems that, while you were working on an article about the film called Bulbbul, someone found that someone else was already further ahead in making an article about the same film Bulbbul. - @C1K98V: A complication is that the main user who was recently editing page Bulbbul, seems to have recently asked for his username to be changed (to Vanished user 278d8b9e769f74365327e651fab9a44b ) for reasons stated at Wikipedia:Courtesy vanishing. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:54, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

- @C1K98V: Page Wikipedia:Courtesy vanishing explains the situation. Its first (oldest) edit was at 01:05, 18 March 2007 (13 years ago), so likely courtesy vanishing has been around from that time or before. I do not know who chose to use the word "vanishing" to describe this process. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:10, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Anthony Appleyard, I will read the article vanishing. Could you please elaborate why their is a green tick, I see in the new page feed on the Aashram article. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 12:12, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- @C1K98V: The panel including the green tick that appears in page Aashram, seems to be caused by page Ashram calling a template called "Infobox television". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:24, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Move Talk:Ziaur Rahman to an archive
The page Talk:Ziaur Rahman, where you have recently reverted a page move, only contains old discussions. You should therefore do the following:
- Move "Talk:Ziaur Rahman" to Talk:Ziaur Rahman/Archive 1, not leaving a redirect behind.
- Undelete the deleted edits for "Talk:Ziaur Rahman".
- Tag "Talk:Ziaur Rahman/Archive 1" as an archive.
- Finally, add the {{archives}} template to "Talk:Ziaur Rahman".

Draft:Comparison of GNOME and KDE
You rejected the history merge of Draft:GNOME Vs KDE - 2019T00465 into Draft:Comparison of GNOME and KDE citing parallel histories.
While I understand that having a parallel history should default to "not done," this still leaves us with the problem of attribution if and when Draft:Comparison of GNOME and KDE is accepted. Is there a standard method for preserving a history in a case like this, given that pages in Draft: space, including redirects, are routinely deleted after 6 months? If there is not a standard method, do you have any recommendations?
It looks like this came up before, with Urbit and Draft:Urbit. The latter was made a redirect to the former. Somehow, it is escaping routine G-13 deletion. Ironically, that situation did not have parallel histories if you don't count the 2016 redirect, but as there were two independently developed articles with only references copied over, I can understand why it was not history-merged. Sidebar: Talk:Urbit looks like its first edit actually belongs as part of Draft:Urbit's history.
If there isn't already a standard practice, I'm considering proposing a formal way to tag pages in Draft space to not be G-13'd in order to preserve the edit history. That would make them usable in {{copied from}} templates in article space. What do you think? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:16, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Put a history information section at the start of its talk page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:16, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was hoping for a better solution, rather than falling back to the old-school 2000s-era attribution-preservation method. In any case, it's done. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 13:59, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Histmerge request
I believe the first version of FAU-G was an exact copy of this version of Faug. Doesn't that make it a good candidate for a histmerge? —BarrelProof (talk) 21:36, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof: That version of FAUG now seems to be at Draft:FAU-G. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @The9Man: Yes. But also there's now another copy of it at Fearless And United: Guards (FAU-G), with some further refinements added. How about histmerging that back into Draft:FAU-G? (There has also been some vandalism at Faug.) —BarrelProof (talk) 18:35, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof: I have moved that to Draftspace. The topic is just news anyway. I don't see any notability factor yet. - The9Man (Talk) 20:14, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support the merge too. - The9Man (Talk) 20:16, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, looking at the two drafts, I think the one at Draft:FAU-G is more mature than the one at Draft:Fearless And United: Guards (FAU-G). The second one forked from an earlier version of the first one, so perhaps a histmerge of those would not be appropriate. —BarrelProof (talk) 20:35, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof and The9Man: There are only 2 edits at Fearless And United: Guards (FAU-G), and both are redirects. Draft:Fearless And United: Guards (FAU-G) and Draft:FAU-G are very different and cannot be parts of the same edit history: see this diff. All the information (except references) in Draft:Fearless And United: Guards (FAU-G) is also in Draft:FAU-G. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:58, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- FYI, there is now a similar article at Fearless and United – Guards. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:03, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- FYI: The one that The9Man moved to Draft space at 06:14, 5 September 2020, was further edited and then moved back to article space at 16:51, 13 September 2020, by OceanHok. The one at Fearless and United – Guards was created at 13:23, 13 September 2020, by Abishe, and I moved it to draft space at 23:04, 15 September 2020. The one with the longer edit history (created at 15:31, 4 September 2020, by HKChakladar) is now at FAU-G, as the result of a request at WP:RMTR to remove the unnecessary disambiguator "(video game)" from its title. (A third and even slightly older variation, created at 12:56, 4 September 2020, by 2409:4043:2e09:8918:9ee5:3966:47db:2c93, can also be found in the edit history of Faug.) —BarrelProof (talk) 00:56, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Zathura: A Space Adventure
Zathura:_A_Space_Adventure has been locked apparently since 2012 by User:Anthony Appleyard (or perhaps it was locked again since but a quick skim of the page history didn't show anything). Does it still need to be locked? Shouldn't page locks have an expiry date? -- 109.78.198.70 (talk) 14:54, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) It isn't "locked". It's semi-protected. You just need to be a registered user, with an account at least 4 days old and with 10 edits, to edit it. Semi-protection doesn't need to expire for pages that have experienced much vandalism in the past. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:13, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Wikipedia claims to be an open encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Semi-protection or locked or whatever you call it there's a lock symbol on the page. It doesn't seem necessary at all, and an indefinite lock rather than a temporary lock goes against the claim that Wikipedia is open for anyone to edit (maybe it shouldn't be open by default but that's a whole other discussion).
- WP:WNCAA. I am allowed to not have an account, and I prefer not to have an account, even though there are occasionally minor downsides such as this. Sometimes though, if asked nicely people will remove the lock. So this is me asking Anthony nicely to please reconsider if 8 years later the page really needs to be locked indefinitely. -- 109.78.198.70 (talk) 17:06, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- @109.78.198.70: Do you understand what "anyone can edit" means? It doesn't mean "anyone without restrictions", and it definitely doesn't mean "everything on Wikipedia is open to everyone". There are some pages accessible (both read and write) only to administrators, by necessity. There are some pages accessible to experienced editors. The phrase "anyone can adit" simply means that Wikipedia has encyclopedia content that anyone can edit; and indeed, there are millions of articles you can edit. And there are some you can't. You can edit that specific article if you choose to do so, but by declining to create an account, you are effectively choosing not to edit that one.
- By the way, the proper venue to request reduction in protection is WP:RFPP, where other admins can evaluate the request. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:58, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Anachronist: Another case of necessary semi-protection was page Duck, which (due to many people's silly opinion of ducks) was subject to an incredible amount of vandalism by IPA users. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:26, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, there's something inherently amusing about ducks; people can't help themselves. I have no objection to unprotecting Zathura: A Space Adventure as an experiment. Even though the individuals disrupting the article 8 years ago have now grown up, if the film is still popular, the problems are likely to persist if unprotected. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:19, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- There are a few small things I'd like to adjust, maybe expand the Critical response section, maybe expand the Production section if get lucky with sources.
- I'm also thinking the film might be due a reevaluation (if it hasn't had one already) either because there have been two more Jumanji films or because people are so pleased with what Favreau has done with the Mandolorian.
- I'm fine with Flagged revisions if you want to take the cautious approach. Thanks. -- 109.78.198.70 (talk) 22:41, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- @109.78.198.70: would you mind proposing some of your changes on the article talk page? If they look reasonable I can unprotect the article for you to add them. ~Anachronist (talk) 17:52, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- I had hoped you would have opened the article already, it seemed like like you'd already said yes. It is a Start class (or maybe generously a C class) article with many obvious deficiencies, it could do with a lot of work. I would be strongly disinclined to submit edit requests on a one-by-one basis, especially if it was in the strict form of change X to Y.
- If anyone was willing to work on the article then a good place to start would be the "Critical response" section (see WP:MOSFILM, that's what it should be called) which is anemic. Only 2 actual reviews. No Roger Ebert, no Variety, no Hollywood Reporter. The reference to CinemaScore is not a good reference, it is an empty search box.
- In the Production section there is a reference to VFXWorld, it is dead. It might be fixed using an archive copy.
- I might do more than that, I might not. -- 109.77.197.79 (talk) 01:26, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Histmerge for Si Ouey/Si Quey?
Hi. This was marked as having parallel histories, but I believe the versions from Si Quey up to 00:22, 9 September 2020 (oldids 977458630 to 977462336) should be okay to merge to Si Ouey (which received a manual merge at 19:22, 09 September 2020)? The target page had been a redirect with no edits since 12 February 2018. It's not a big deal either way, but I'd like to know for sure and avoid broken requests in the future. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:11, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Recent move
Hi Anthony. You recently moved Asynchronous transfer mode to an all-capped title. Less than two years ago there was a lengthy discussion with a lot of people weighing in on both sides of the issue and the consensus was to de-cap. I don't know if you saw this in the history but it's there to check out. Thanks. Primergrey (talk) 04:25, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Primergrey: See Talk:Asynchronous Transfer Mode#Requested move 16 September 2020. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:27, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- So it got moved from its lower-case title, which was the result of a spirited debate, at the request of one user, and then you open an RM a day later to move it back? Is this normal? Primergrey (talk) 03:24, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Primergrey: There seemed to be a dispute about the matter. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:04, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Anthony, I'm asking if you could please correct/move UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao → UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandão as a technicality issue appears with the letter "a" (should be ã) in Diego Brandão's name. Thanks! Best, --Discographer (talk) 12:03, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Edit history removal request
Hello, I’m wondering if it is possible to have a history merge that was conducted awhile ago on Draft:Your Name (upcoming film) be reversed. The edits were done by an editor blocked for sock puppetry. At some point several IP addresses made history merge requests to reinstate draft edit histories deleted when they were blocked and the Your Name draft was one of them. It’s an issue I highlighted here.
Thank you. Rusted AutoParts 18:36, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Rusted AutoParts: The film seems to be called "Your Name" all through page Draft:Your Name (upcoming film)'s edit history. Where do you want its edit history split? Do you want the old part or the new part moved? Where to? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:31, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- I guess specifically the January 26, 2019 edits. It's of their separate draft. Rusted AutoParts 21:34, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, Anthony. Rusted AutoParts 22:11, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi
For the oages, is it worth just getting rid of the initial ip edits and just merge the two pages together? My draft existed and content was added earlier but people added content by repurposing a redirect. A comparison of the two pages indicate it siginiticantly copied from the draft and adapted from there. Heck, even the first sentence uses the exact same format. Starzoner (talk) 11:11, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Starzoner: Scream 5's and Talk:Scream 5's edit histories contained only redirects, so I plain moved Draft:Scream 5 to Scream 5, and its talk page with it. Page Scream 5 is WP:Parallel histories with page Scream (2022 film). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:03, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Anthony Appleyard contents of the page also exists at Scream (2022 film) and Starzoner is claiming that they're the original creator of the article and want it merged with Scream 5 so that they'll be the original author of the page. What do you suggest should happen here? —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 12:08, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Nnadigoodluck and Starzoner: That would have to be a text-merge, not a history-merge. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:16, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I think the history could still be merged? Starzoner (talk) 14:50, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Nnadigoodluck and Starzoner: Page Scream 5 is WP:Parallel histories with page Scream (2022 film), and they cannot be history-merged, for reason found by clicking on WP:Parallel histories. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:41, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- oh :(. I created a draft and all that is thrown down the drain when someone directly creates it in mainspace and those edits and efforts are now useless. Starzoner (talk) 12:56, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Undo controversial and undiscussed history merge from Draft:Laycon into Laycon
- Hello Anthony, a problematic and controversial history merge was done without discussion from Draft:Laycon into Laycon. See log.
- The Draft:Laycon history started from 2 September 2020 to 25 September 2020, see [1] while the history of Laycon started from 28 September 2020, see [2].
- I'm asking for an undo of the history merge because the versions and creators are totally different and the page histories should be separated from each other.

Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality
Hi, I see you've moved this template to a new name. This appears to have broken some 2,700 articles on the individual municipalities, see for example Losone. Is there a plan afoot to fix this? Thanks —BillC talk 11:16, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BillC: That move was requested by User:TerraCyprus in Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests at 23:33, 7 October 2020 (UTC). I have reverted that move. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:43, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, I see it is now back to normal. I don't know what the route forward is on this but I will get in touch with TerraCyprus. —BillC talk 11:46, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Please do again, "broken" likely been caused by Template:Infobox Swiss town, called by Losone, redirecting to Template:Infobox Swiss municipality and redirect not having been changed after move [3] - double redirect bot probably couldn't fix, since redirect is template protected. So this time change Template:Infobox Swiss town to redirect to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality. Then it should be fine. TerraCyprus (talk) 14:34, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- Unfortunately this has once more replaced the template with a redirect notice. If it is important that this change take place, then it probably should be done by a bot changing out all instances of Template:Infobox Swiss town, to Template:Infobox Swiss municipality. —BillC talk 01:16, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BillC: redirects are fine, and if one wants to change the calls from articles, one still needs to move the template first. But WP:COSMETIC does preclude a bot just for changing the calls. And it isn't needed since transclusion via redirect works fine on thousands of articles. TerraCyprus (talk) 18:20, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

- @TerraCyprus and BillC: Done Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BillC: @Anthony both must be done:
- move Template:Infobox Swiss municipality to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality, as done 8 October 10:54 [4]
- fix incoming double redirects, e.g. from Template:Infobox Swiss town, as done 24 October 20:12 [5]
- thousands of pages include Infoboxes via redirects, but it doesn't work via double redirect. TerraCyprus (talk) 16:54, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BillC: @Anthony both must be done:
- @TerraCyprus and BillC: Which of these moves remain to be done? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:09, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- It looks to me like it's working, so I'm happy. Thanks for your work. —BillC talk 11:40, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BillC: the two changes have been undone. Both should be implemented. TerraCyprus (talk) 02:56, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: one move (Template:Infobox Swiss municipality to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality) and afterwards fix double redirect(s) (e.g. [6]). TerraCyprus (talk) 02:55, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- It looks to me like it's working, so I'm happy. Thanks for your work. —BillC talk 11:40, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- @TerraCyprus and BillC: Done as asked by TerraCyprus in the previous line here. But this move has left several dozen Swiss towns with what looks like a link to a redirect page which transcludes Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality :: how long will it be before the double-redirect bot catches up? (See Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality.).
- @TerraCyprus and BillC: Many articles about Swiss towns and cities, and a few articles about other towns and cities, contain a full text describing that town, but prefixed to that text is the line "{{short description|Place in Switzerland}}", which now displays as "1 REDIRECT Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality, which displays not as information about the town being looked for but as instructions about how to call a Wikipedia infobox. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:33, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: you have to do two things. MOVE and FIX REDIRECT. First move, then fix redirect. Each time when you moved, you didn't fix the template protected double redirect. And once you changed the redirect [7] but didn't move. Please do both things. First move, then change redirect like [8]. The double-redirect cannot be fixed by bots, since {{Infobox Swiss town}} is template protected. TerraCyprus (talk) 23:23, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Template:Infobox Swiss town
- When you moved Template:Infobox Swiss town to {{Infobox Swiss municipality}} and left it as a redirect, you broke over 2,500 links. Mörel, Switzerland is typical. I fixed Riederalp by hand. Narky Blert (talk) 11:21, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert: When I obeyed TerraCyprus's instruction in the discussion hereinabove, Narky Blert complained as in the next message above. Please discuss with him and BillC. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:49, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- You didn't 'obey', you only moved, but didn't change the redirect. TerraCyprus (talk) 23:23, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert, TerraCyprus, and BillC: I have now reversed that move (by moving Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality to Template:Infobox Swiss municipality) to remedy the damage that it caused and Narky Blert complained about. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:58, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fixing the double redirect would have removed the damage too. TerraCyprus (talk) 23:23, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @TerraCyprus: Which three pages were involved in that double redirect? I had the impression that every town in Switzerland's article was the start of its own double-redirect chain. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:54, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- The articles use {{Infobox Swiss town}} (template protected) which is a redirect to {{Infobox Swiss municipality}} (my request, since it is about municipalities not towns). So, when {{Infobox Swiss municipality}} is moved to {{Infobox Switzerland municipality}} the redirect from {{Infobox Swiss town}} should be changed to point to {{Infobox Switzerland municipality}}. TerraCyprus (talk) 23:59, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert, TerraCyprus, and BillC: This current bout of trouble seems to have been caused by someone wanting to replace the words "Swiss" by "Switzerland" and "town" by "municipality" everywhere. The fault with the current situation is that (e.g.) Mörel, Switzerland calls "{{Infobox Swiss town", with the name Mörel inserted in its parameters correctly, which formerly directly called a template Template:Infobox Swiss town, and everything worked. But instead of "leaving well enough alone", someone seems to have moved Template:Infobox Swiss town to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality, and bridging the resulting gap in template call continuity by a plain #redirect (which does not pass paranmeters on) and not by a template call which could pass parameters on. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:09, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert, TerraCyprus, and BillC: When I started looking at this situation, each Swiss town's page, e.g. Weiach, instead of an infobox, called a one-line fault display resulting from trying to access a nonexistent template. So I tried to bridge the abovementioned gap in template call continuity by creating a new template Template:Infobox Swiss town, which contains the one line "{{Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality}}". As a result, looking at page (e.g.) Weiach gets a display which displays a parameterless call of the moved template Template talk:Infobox Switzerland municipality. What is needed is for someone with skill in writing templates that use parameters, to edit Template:Infobox Swiss town to make it pass all its call parameters on. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:22, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- It may just need #REDIRECT - compare Template:Infobox town. Narky Blert (talk) 14:29, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert, TerraCyprus, and BillC: #REDIRECT does not pass the template call parameters on. If I write for example "versin(x) = 1 - sin(x)", "x" is the called parameter being passed on to the contained function call. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:38, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- Infobox town does. Narky Blert (talk) 14:47, 29 October 2020 (UTC) London
- @Anthony Appleyard: thousands of articles include templates via redirects, the variables are allways passed. TerraCyprus (talk) 22:53, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Complaint
Pardon-me, but why the heck is this mess going on for over 20 days?!
And IMHO it was unnecessary as well as counter-productive.
Please, first of all, would you mind to move this whole talk thread to where it belongs, namely to the talk page of the template–whatever its name may be!
Secondly, please take into consideration at least the following:
- A Swiss town has a distinct difference compared to a Swiss municipality, see List of towns in Switzerland.
- Thee are many more municipalities than towns (i.e. a municipality not being a town).
- Not all Swiss towns are also a municipality, though most. However, some towns are just a part of a municipality, and could also be a former municipality! (conceptual error since the beginning)
- A former town is not necessarily the same as a former municipality.
I also wonder why it should be called Infobox Switzerland municipality instead of the grammatical correct version Infobox Swiss municipality?
And finally, if you already change the template('s name) would you mind to complete the entire task, e.g. also to update its documentation etc.?! I consider incomplete execution as a rather bad style.
Thanks for appreciation -- ZH8000 (talk) 14:18, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @ZH8000: I am currently working on my new gap-bridging template Template:Infobox Swiss town to try to make it pass all parameters on to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality in the parameter as called in the infobox in each town's article. See the end of section #Template:Infobox Swiss town hereinabove. Someone (not me) had the idea to replace "Swiss" and "town" by "Switzerland" and "municipality" everywhere, and I merely obeyed the resulting requests that were passed on to me. - @TerraCyprus: With help from User:Frietjes, my link-template Template:Infobox Swiss town has been finished and works and passes its parameters on to Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality. But the previous plain #redirect version may or may not have called the template, but it did not pass the parameters on to it. Please, best "leave well enough alone", now that my and Frietjes's version works properly. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:51, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: it doesn't work properly, please can you come to your senses and just make it a redirect. This is getting out of any logical area. I told you at least three times that you have to create the redirect AFTER the move. @Frietjes, ProcrastinatingReader, Jonesey95, and Primefac: can one of you intervene and end this? And also fix any subtemplates so that they redirect from Swiss town/XYZ to Switzerland municipality/XYZ. TerraCyprus (talk) 00:26, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

- I just wanted to apologize for any problems I generated for you from the initial request I made in regards to this film. I wasn’t expecting this move request to cause such headache, or trout whacking. Sorry again. Rusted AutoParts 07:51, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello, there. I just noticed that you made mainspaced article named Infobox Switzerland municipality which seems like an copy of Template:Infobox Switzerland municipality. I don't understand why it's in mainspaced. Thanks. — A. Shohag (pingme or Talk) 11:46, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

{{trout small}} For your move of Sunoco to Sunoco LP contrary to WP:NCCORP at 21:10, 24 January 2020 (UTC). You know better than that. — BarrelProof (talk) 14:34, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

- Yes it was in January, but that doesn't make it a good move. RMTRs should be screened for reasonableness, not just executed without question. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:38, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you for your move request response, regarding the page Casey Calvert! What do you think of my research and improvements to the page during a recent deletion discussion, compare before with after? Thank you, Right cite (talk) 16:54, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Can you also move these 2 pages as well?

- If I recall, AFDs are generally not moved following a page move; this is to keep the history of the logs etc working. Primefac (talk) 17:54, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Primefac, what happens if someone creates a 3rd deletion discussion someday? Right cite (talk) 18:25, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, because the new name doesn't have a disambiguator, the 3rd discussion will properly link the previous discussions (it's based on Special:PrefixIndex). Primefac (talk) 20:27, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, and/or can solve it with some redirects as well. No big deal. Right cite (talk) 20:38, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Help me with page you helped with previously
Hi Anthony, I was wondering if you could please have a look at the following article Gabriel Kunda Jr, which you helped with previously, but has been nominated for deletion, when all the references meet the criteria of the article, and has official professional club website links I added of said athlete. Thanks (talk) 16:58, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Vivalionel1: As the deletion notice says, click on "deletion discussion page", that will take you to page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gabriel Kunda Jr, and click on "[edit]", and type your objections in. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:23, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: I went to the link provided in the discussion, to see if the article met the criteria which it did. I previously had added official club websites, and news links that the player recently played for, making it eligible to remain in wikipedia. Vivalionel (talk) 21:48, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi Anthony, can you delete this article redirect that was mistakenly created by me, please. Thanks! Best, --Discographer (talk) 11:28, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Rewriting Draft:Kit Yates
Hi Anthony,
I recently submitted my article 'Draft:Kit Yates' for review which was very quickly turned down and deleted. I now understand the reasons behind this speedy deletion and I wanted to check with you if it would be okay to rewrite the article with the same title in a form that does not violate copyrights.
I am a new user of Wikipedia and this is my first article, I of course intend to complete it in a way that follows all the rules of Wikipedia and I would hate to have my article deleted again as this set back hours of progress for me.
Many thanks, HUBEDYBUBEDY (talk) 15:48, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Request to merge

Perhaps mistake?
Hi, I noticed that you moved Talk:Trade and use of saffron to Talk:Saffron (use) without leaving a redirect behind but you left the article page Trade and use of saffron as it is. Talk:Saffron (use) redirects to Talk:Trade and use of saffron (version 2) and Trade and use of saffron (version 2) redirects to Trade and use of saffron. This is a complete mess. ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:05, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- The article should be at Saffron (use) and the related talk page should be at Talk:Saffron (use). Isn't it? ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:08, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAafi: I see that you have tidied this up already. Thanks. But I still think that it might better if that article and its talk page were at Use of saffron. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:50, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard:, I didn't noticed this one earlier. I would also prefer a plain title, rather than a disambiguated one. ─ The Aafī (talk) 16:55, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Əliağalı
Hi, you recently renamed an article to Əliağalı. Why did you use non Latin characters in theEnglish-language wiki? Is this not a violation of the naming policy - Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). It states "Names not originally in a Latin alphabet, as with Greek, Chinese, or Russian, must be transliterated into characters generally intelligible to literate speakers of English". Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:34, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Laurel Lodged: The name is an Azerbaijani place name, and all the letters in it are letters in the Azerbaijani version of the Roman alphabet. Similarly to ğ in Turkish and ł in Polish. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:34, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- I don't understand your reply. It does not appear to address the concern that I raised. I'm aware that the letters are Azerbaijani. The point is, per the policy, the letters should be Latin or Romanised. Is this not the case? Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:15, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Laurel Lodged: See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Query about a special letter used by one nation among Roman-alphabet letters. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:39, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Two users reverted my edit, one calling it "nonsense", other says it is the "last warning" although I never had a warning by him or by other user on that article. Relevant diffs:
- https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Azerbaijan_(Iran)&diff=990131141&oldid=990130477
Second user says: "Azerbaijani" has nothing to do here, last warning.
Isn't that lying. And do you see any disruptive editing here? I changed the language to south Azeri instead of northern version, and added category for Azerbaijani irredentism, while the article mentions irredentism. Could you please say your opinions? See relevant talk. Btw found your name here. Thanks in advance. Beshogur (talk) 10:04, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello. If previous version of Tutorial (video games) was moved to Level (video games) then could you move new version from Game tutorial again to Tutorial (video games)? Eurohunter (talk) 11:34, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

- Game tutorial is an article.
- Tutorial (video games) has 2 edits, both redirects.
- Level (video games) is an article.

What's the point of having a record of histmerges at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge when they don't matter? Little Mix song article move request
Hi Anthony, can you please move No Time for Tears (Little Mix and Nathan Dawe song) to No Time for Tears (Nathan Dawe and Little Mix song), as the artists' names in the former have been mistakenly flipped from that of the corrected order of the latter // Talk:No Time for Tears (Little Mix and Nathan Dawe song) — Thanks! Incorrect technical move
This was clearly not an uncontroversial move. A discussion was ongoing at the Talk page and a move request discussion had been started by the same user who made the technical request. Nor did the user link the consensus (which doesn't/didn't exist) which they claimed to have in their request. Please be mindful of the move history of such articles. Thanks. - Hi, Anthony. I just wanted to let you know that I was an IP for around 8 years or so, and you were one of the few people here who always took my requests at RM at face value. You were always one of the most reliable people I would run into. I used to look for C&P moves when I was an IP & you would always fix em up. You are actually one of the reasons why I enjoyed (and enjoy) WP so much; you were just doing what you were supposed to be doing and didn't let things bother you. Keep it up, and happy editing! from Draft:Ashoka Tano (TV series) to Draft:Ashoka (TV series) Starzoner (talk) 23:20, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- Not done, I see no evidence of a copy/paste pagemove in there anywhere. Primefac (talk) 00:43, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Starzoner and Primefac: I can't see any evidence either. And page Draft:Ashoka Tano (TV series) contains no useful substance. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:05, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Starzoner and Primefac: Someone moved Draft:Ashoka Tano (TV series) to Linjiang Subdistrict, where it was used as a form-filling-type blank to start a new article. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:25, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- I did. I just repurposed it as a new article. Starzoner (talk) 15:35, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleksoj
Did you mean to leave the redirect at Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleksoj behind? I was going to speedy-tag it but I saw your name and figured you might have left it behind on purpose. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 14:20, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Thanks. I have deleted it. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:26, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- OK now I'm really confused, the redirect at Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleksoj (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) is still there, but User:Vakssssss/sandbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), which is where you moved the content back to, is gone. So, the content is gone, and now there are TWO incoming redirects to the sandbox thanks to the user doing some other moving around. The other redirect is at Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleskoj (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 15:07, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: At 14:32, 16 December 2020 User:Vakssssss moved page Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleksoj to Pravo pravičnosti u srednjovekovnoj Engleskoj to correct a typo :: "ks" to "sk" near the end. I have undeleted User:Vakssssss/sandbox. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:15, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Looking back, I should have said "I was going to speedy-tag the leftover redirect as G2." That would have avoided confusion. I apologize if I mislead you and caused you extra work. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 15:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

- Bah. I undid that merge, and then thought to look for any notes on your talk page. As above, Swale has summed it up neatly. Regards, --The Equalizer (talk) 19:04, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Crouch, Swale and The Equalizer: I was asked to history-merge Draft:Kings Clipstone, Nottinghamshire to Kings Clipstone. I obeyed that instruction. As I obeyed that instruction, I noticed that Draft:Kings Clipstone, Nottinghamshire had only one, short, edit. After that, I reverted off the junk last edit that that sort of history-merging creates, but it seems that someone had already done that, or a system glitch happened. I see that someone has put it right :: thanks. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:54, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
