Hi Solise! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
Adoption[edit]
Sure, I'm glad to adopt you. If you have any questions, just ask on my talk page. Superm401 - Talk 21:05, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! That's kind of you. Let me know if I can help. Superm401 - Talk 09:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Redirect pages[edit]
Good question. The purpose of a redirect is to say that one topic is discussed at another page. For example, Ford Motors redirects to Ford Motor Company because both names refer to the same company. As another example, the scientific name for a lion (Panthera leo) redirects to lion. There is more information at Help:Redirect; let me know if I can help further. Citations[edit]
A 'citation' is how you say where you found information. For instance, if you find a fact in a book, you add a citation to that book (often with {{cite book}}). There is more information at Wikipedia:Citation needed, Wikipedia:Verifiability (an important policy that says everything in Wikipedia should be verifiable/citeable), and Wikipedia:Footnotes (explains technical details of how to make citations). You may also find ProveIt, a tool I helped develop for citations, helpful. Superm401 - Talk 02:56, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
Adding an image[edit]
First, you have to upload the image. If you made it yourself, or it is free, you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons. If it is not free, you may be able to upload it here under the non-free content policy. You can ask me, and I'll let you know whether I think it can be uploaded.
If it's already uploaded (by you or someone else), you just need to add the markup to insert it. There are some useful examples at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. A simple example is putting:
- [[File:Blue Marble Eastern Hemisphere.jpg|thumb|200px|Eastern hemisphere of Earth]]
to add the image on the right:
There are other options too, some of which are explained in that tutorial. Superm401 - Talk 01:01, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Paragraphs[edit]
To start a new paragraph, simply add two line breaks after the last paragraph. It sounds like you are putting spaces before the first line of the paragraph. That formatting is not used on Wikipedia, and that's the reason you're seeing a gray box. A correct example is below. Superm401 - Talk 03:58, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Example[edit]
This is the first sentence of the first paragraph. This is the second sentence.
This is the first sentence of the next paragraph. This is another sentence of the second paragraph.
