Real inventor
[edit]There is a mastermind word version board game from the late 1970's, 4 and 5 letter versions that is a spin on Mastermind using letters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:89:2010:3C94:8086:77FE:89FD (talk) 22:01, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Did Wardle created it or just simplified/adapted old idea? Wordle seems to be a simplified version of Lingo (American game show) 89.69.127.250 (talk) 10:37, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, this is mentioned twice in the article, including the first paragraph. Belbury (talk) 08:52, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Is this a game of skill or chance?
[edit]So - a friend keeps on sending me Wordle emojis of her solutions, which she is clearly proud of, so I came to Wikipedia to discover what it is all about. I ask myself "Is a high Wordle score admirable?"
To get the word in one guess is clearly chance, and that decreases as you go lower. But is that due to intelligence, skill or facility? (I take it no one is going to argue that people vary in intelligence? - or is that a forbidden subject?).
I have never felt that intelligence was demonstrated by 'knowing things' - that's just a result of being taught things and having a good memory. As having a larger vocabulary than someone else is. Skill is just repeating something a sufficient number of times to get good at it. Clearly good Wordle players have a particular facility, but could it change reality like Einstein, or Crick and Watson, or Harvey? Or is it just whiling away the time till death? Should one boast about it? 87.115.177.145 (talk) 12:49, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
