Talk:Nintendo video game consoles
Contradiction
[edit]The lede states there are seven consoles, but it calls the NES the first one, not the Color TV Game. It also calls the handhelds consoles, but doesn't count them in the total. This article needs a direction. ArtistScientist (talk) 05:24, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Original models sold
[edit]@Sergecross73: Why do the original 3DS sales not need to be portrayed on the infobox? Same goes for the DS and the GBA. For the PS4 it's different because the PS4 Slim and Pro do not have their own articles. The GBA SP, DSi, 2DS, etc. however do have their own pages. -- EzekielT Talk 22:44, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- @EzekielT: This is not the talk page for the 3DS (or any of those articles), and this discussion shouldn't happen here. This talk page is specifically about this article, not others. -- ferret (talk) 23:54, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- Why would you start a discussionhere? It has nothing to do with this article. Sergecross73 msg me 23:56, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- I didn't want to divide the discussion onto the GBA, DS and 3DS talk pages, that would make things confusing, harder to respond to, and harder to maintain. — EzekielT Talk 23:59, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- @EzekielT: Then bring the discussion up at WT:VG. This article is not some sort of centralized place to discuss Nintendo console articles. -- ferret (talk) 00:01, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

System names
[edit]How come some systems have Nintendo before it and others do not? I frequently see Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS, 3DS, but also frequently see "Gamecube" and "Wii". Is it official that some platforms include the company name and some do not? It seems inconsistently applied.
Virtual Boy = Handheld console?
[edit]The Virtual Boy, entirely by design, is not held in the hand. It is self-standing on a table. Why is it considered a handheld system? It's the least portable of any Nintendo system.
Nintendo Switch as home console?
[edit]Why is the Nintendo Switch put in as a home console here and the Switch Lite is separate as handheld? None of the other consoles have their minor revisions as an entirely separate console. Because the switch works as a handheld console and a home console (and actually leans more towards handheld considering the Switch Lite), I'd say it would be a good idea to add a "hybrid" section or something.
Infobox
[edit]I think an infobox should be added to this article because despite it being a company that makes video game consoles, Nintendo can also be seen as a brand of video game consoles, similar to PlayStation and Xbox. If this article were to have an infobox, it would look something like this:
Product type | Video game console |
---|---|
Owner | Nintendo |
Country | Minami-ku, Kyoto, Japan |
Introduced | June 1, 1977 |
Markets | Worldwide |
Website | www |

- Not opposed, but just Nintendo's logo would probably be more appropriate. The proposed photo (1) is too large vertically and (2) incorrectly implies Nintendo is solely a hardware manufacturer. Jtrevor99 (talk) 01:00, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate your thoughts, but I'm a bit confused about the photo incorrectly implying Nintendo is "solely a hardware manufacturer." The name of this article is "Nintendo video game consoles," and this photo shows just that. Nature Creature (talk) 01:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'll admit I forgot I was looking at the video game consoles page rather than the Nintendo page. The fact nevertheless remains that the photo is too large for the infobox: in my opinion, it pushes the infobox data too far down, and I don't think two images in one infobox looks good anyway. I recommend the logo inside the infobox, and the existing graphic with caption underneath the box rather than inside it. Jtrevor99 (talk) 02:08, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- You make a good point. In that case, we should put it underneath the infobox like you had mentioned. Nature Creature (talk) 03:44, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
