Note

[edit]

Note: These numbers are very inaccurate as compared to VGChartz - for instance, for Uncharted 4, this list is reporting total sales of 2.x million when its referenced blog post explicitly lists this number as being only first week sales, not total sum of sales. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.233.24.77 (talk) 17:16, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

VGChartz is not a reliable source because they have a tendency to guesstimate and then silently fudge their numbers if it later comes out that they were way off compared to more reputable sources. If you can find more recent numbers from a reliable source like Sony, NPD, or Media Create feel free to add them to the article. — NotJim99 (talk) 15:48, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

But is not correct to combine sales data from 2017 with ones from 2019... this referenced data set looks to be crafted to push Sony exclusives on top of there sales, while games from Rockstar, FIFA and the various Call of Duty are seen in many other top sales list (even in Wikipedia itself, see this List of best-selling video games, which IMHO looks more honest). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.58.103.102 (talk) 10:07, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Change best-selling PlayStation 4 video games to best-selling Playstation 4 exclusive video games

These are platform exclusives. It doesn't include games like Call of Duty that have sold more than a million copies of the PS4 version. Megagood (talk) 19:10, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Changing the inclusion criteria requires consensus. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 14:41, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nier: Automata, Street Fighter V and Final Fantasy XV are not PlayStation 4 exclusives but they appear on the list. All PS4 video games with more than 1 million sales should be on the list, exclusive or not, as seen on List of best-selling PlayStation video games, List of best-selling PlayStation 2 video games and List of best-selling PlayStation 3 video games. Brankestein (talk) 00:28, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List is incorrect, as stated

[edit]

This list is incorrect. Either it consists of exclusives, which should be mentioned on the page, or it should have non-exclusives listed in the table. Other similar lists for consoles don't only have exclusives, and I'm not sure what the policy is for this one. But it's missing significant information about video games sold on this console. For example, Minecraft has over 5 million copies sold on PS4, but there's no mention of it. This is not a useful list. Tim Bird (talk) 18:13, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This list is wrong and outdated

[edit]

Many of these games have way different numbers of copies sold than what you are suggesting. Half of your articles are dated 2 years of better. After looking at all your games and there numbers and finding more recent and credible articles that contradict your numbers. Please update this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.213.72.2 (talk) 17:05, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GTA V data is wrong

[edit]

I noticed that the total of 2 million for GTA V seemed a little low, so I decided to look through the sources. It seems that this figure was manually calculated by adding the different regional numbers.

Not only is this a pretty flawed method in general, as you can never be sure what constitutes a region, it was also terribly executed. The total only includes Germany, France and Asia, skipping the rest of Europe, the US and every other continent.

After a quick search on Google, I found an article from 2015 stating that the Xbox One and PS4 versions combined has sold nearly 10 million copies. Only 3 months after release, it had already sold somewhere between double and triple the numbers given here. Swaggernagger (talk) 19:16, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

At this point (mid-June 2020) the GTA V data has been updated to show more than 20 million copies - entirely plausible, but the reference given ("Sales of Grand Theft Auto V on PS4 worldwide 2020". Statista. Retrieved 2020-06-08) lies behind a paywall. There is no way to judge its validity or context without paying a premium subscription. 125.236.174.78 (talk) 12:09, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Final Fantasy VII remake

[edit]

In 3 days (at time of this comment) Final Fantasy VII Remake has topped 3.5M sales[1][2], which puts it at #9. Just noting here, and letting new data come in. Will try to get it together and updated (though it'll obviously change a lot) after bit if anyone else doesn't want to do it first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkfire420 (talkcontribs) 17:46, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Best-selling PS4 games | Statista

Statista usage

[edit]

This list has been filled with citations to Statista. Statista should be treated as unreliable for video game sales units, as they source their information from VGChartz, an unreliable source. The list needs massive review. -- ferret (talk) 16:01, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded, for the record. Sergecross73 msg me 23:34, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spider-man sales figure update

[edit]

Please, stop adding the updated sales figures based on the unreliable twitter post that quotes an unreliable Linkedin profile. No reliable sourced official figures exist to back this up. This is essentially rumor and is unusable on Wikipedia. -- ferret (talk) 16:02, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infamous Second Son - 6 million figure

The dark souls series sold way more than most of the games listed. According to wikipedia itself

you can see this at this link: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Souls_(series) 2601:782:580:EB0:CCA1:F621:7C4E:9EDF (talk) 14:04, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Yes, Dark Souls series has sold a lot of copies. But we do not know how many copies of any particular individual game of the series were sold explicitly on PlayStation 4. If you have a source for that, feel free to provide it. It MUST state exactly how many (or what percentage of the total) were on PlayStation 4. -- ferret (talk) 15:43, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. -- ferret (talk) 23:31, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - (edit conflict) You need a reliable source stating those sales, and that all those sales were strictly on PS4. Sergecross73 msg me 23:33, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Persona 5's sales

[edit]

P5's sales are currently listed as 3.2 million, but that's not accurate as it includes the Japanese PS3 sales figures. And there's no real way of knowing what the PS3 vs PS4 ratio for P5, so 3.2 million should be removed or be given a big asterisk since the PS4 version has certainly sold much less than 3.2 mil. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6080:660A:6800:4CB1:B15F:4B49:9549 (talk) 02:12, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, as much as I imagine it's like a 95/5 split like Breath of the Wild is in its Switch to Wii U ratio, you are probably technically right. Sergecross73 msg me 14:28, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a new column labeled "Last updated"

[edit]

So I was thinking in order to make this list more accurate it should have a new column for when the sold number of copies info was released. The list in it's current form gives me the impression that this list is relevant while in fact it isn't. LukeA1 (talk) 15:39, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see no problem with that. It's already handled like that at the Switch-equivalent list. Sergecross73 msg me 19:04, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we definitely need that. Some of these sales numbers are over multiple years. Some of these sales numbers are over the launch weekend only. The time frame is incredibly important and sort of left out of this entire page.

New source (The Gamer)

[edit]

User MR.RockGamer17 updated the list using this source (number 1 at the moment) - the edit was not done properly, so I fixed it. The source does not seem to cite any sources itself to make this list so it might be invalided in the future. The numbers from The Gamer look identical to source "Statista" which was used up untili this version of the article, its reliability questioned and then the source removed and list modified consequently. I think it could be a case of circular reporting. Lone Internaut (talk) 23:46, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I was also concerned about this edit. I was trying to figure out where they got these numbers, as I didn't believe any of them had been reported by any of the respective publishers before. Sergecross73 msg me 00:06, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah Serge, I think it is indeed a circular reporting case. They probably got these numbers from Wiki itself and then created the news. I would be in favour of repealing the edits and bring the article back to the 13 September. Let's see what others think about the whole thing. Lone Internaut (talk) 00:25, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was considering raising the same point, but I didn't bother to search out where they pulled figures from. I was pretty sure though Statista or VGChartz would be the source though. I think it's a massive red flag for a listicle to be used here in general, but doubly so if it doesn't include any information along the lines of "Developer announced in Month Year that..." or "Sony announces figures that...", etc. In short: Revert -- ferret (talk) 02:08, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Batman Arkham Knight is a glaring omission

[edit]

I believe Arkham Knight on the PS4 sold between 4-5 million copies 8.40.179.173 (talk) 20:52, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's lots of "glaring omissions" because we don't have any reliable sources verifying the sales figures. Feel free to add it if you can provide a reliable source though. Sergecross73 msg me 21:14, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Japan CESA Games White Paper 2021

[edit]

The CESA Games White Paper 2021 have been available for a while now. I feel like some of the sales data for Japanese games would be available through this source. --MR.RockGamer17 (talk) 16:15, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Minecraft

[edit]

In the list Minecraft is reported having sold 17 million copies. However the source for it claims 17 million players, not copies. Should we discriminate resulting in removal of the game from the list? Lone Internaut (talk) 15:06, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, if that's the only source, it should be removed, as player count doesn't equate 1:1 to sales. Sergecross73 msg me 18:20, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's the only source. Granted, it's 4J Studios claim so it's reliable in saying the numbers of players. But as player count doesn't equate 1:1 to sales, it must be removed.  Done Lone Internaut (talk) 12:40, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Add God of War 3 Remastered

[edit]

God of War III Remastered has sold 4 million copies. [4] [5] 189.4.24.136 (talk) 01:04, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A Linked In page is not a reliable source for sales figures, even from an employee. Sergecross73 msg me 01:06, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 White Paper from CESA

[edit]

The 2023 White Paper from CESA includes a number of games missing from this list with details on their PS4 sales: Tekken 7 (6.23 million), Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (4.47 million), Dragon ball FighterZ (4.31 million), Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (4.30 million), Dark Souls III (3.91 million), Jump Force (3.85 million), Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (3.22 million), Elden Ring (2.67 million), Dragon Ball Xenoverse (2.52 million), Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker (2.13 million), Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 - Road to Boruto (1.92 million), Dark Souls: Remastered (1.89 million), Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX (1.8 million), Dark Souls II (1.79 million), SoulCalibur VI (1.44 million), Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (1.3 million), Tales of Berseria (1.24 million), One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (1.11 million), Code Vein (1.02 million) and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (1 million). God of War 2018 is the Best selling by The end of it's Era

[edit]

You have never edited it since 2021 but what about Gematsu rebort that in 2022 1st of November before eight days from releasing GOW Ragnarok God of War 2018 hiting 23 Million sales I hope you can edit it and thank you. 178.52.242.85 (talk) 15:25, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To update the sales figures, we need an updated source. A reliable one that is is specifically talking about PS4 copies. Sergecross73 msg me 15:49, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So, can we use the Insomniac leak as a source?

[edit]

There is a lot of information about sales of first-party PS4 games. For example, Bloodborne being at 7.4 million (as of early 2022) and Astro Bot Rescue Mission at 1 million (as of early 2020). Yuyuluzu (talk) 20:10, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
