Requests for article creation

I came across this draft after some requests on Talk:Liam Payne to create an article. I wonder if it was still the opinion of @Rankersbo, LukeSurl, and Alanl: that this article is not yet ready for creation? I'm not sure it is necessary to get consensus at Talk:List of One Direction members before the article can be created ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:05, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

I'm not an expert on the corner of popular culture 1D exist in, my comments were based purely on the merits of the draft itself, not of Payne. I mean now I can name Styles and Malik off the top of my head, the others I'd have to look up.
Basically at the time of my comment above, it had already been decided that Payne should redirect to 1D and the draft presented did nothing to persuade me otherwise. I see and hear nothing to change my mind, but my opinion is not strongly held and should not stand in the way of article creation. Rankersbo (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Like Rankersbo I know little of 1D. However I am aware that they are a "big deal", and that the lack of a dedicated Liam Payne article is clearly a deliberate choice by editors rather than an accidental "gap" in the encyclopaedia. That is why I directed the draft creator here to open a splitting discussion at Talk:List_of_One_Direction_members which would presumably catch the attention of whichever editors were involved in that choice. AfC does not appear to be the correct forum for this discussion, as it would not involve the involved editors, and any decision to approve would bulldoze over that (presumed) consensus. However this draft seems well-made and should be retained and used if a choice is made to have a dedicated Liam Payne article. --LukeSurl t c 12:50, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
@MSGJ: If attempts to start a discussion at Talk:List of One Direction members or Talk:Liam Payne are receiving no attention from such editors then perhaps it is time to be WP:BOLD and make the article. However this will be quite a bold step, so I'd spruce up the article as much as possible first. The lead in this draft is a little messy and overlong. A few sections of this draft go too much into detail of the format of X-factor. --LukeSurl t c 11:11, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
We could apply WP:BOLD, but in situations like this I'd probably advise an editor to bring the draft up to spec, and then take it to WP:DRV. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:10, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Just to clarify, do you suggest that I rework the draft and then submit it to WP:DRV for consideration. Thank you for taking your time to discuss this topic. Beecee14 (talk) 17:43, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes I think that would be the best option. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:44, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

The closer of Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2015 October 11#Liam Payne wrote: "The consensus here is that AfC is where this should be decided, and that the three year old AfD result is not binding on a new article getting created via the AfC process."

The subject clearly passes Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles, which notes: "Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself."

Here are several examples sources in the draft:

1. http://www.inquisitr.com/2008232/liam-payne-now-writing-post-zayn-1d-songs-guess-next-album-title/

2. http://www.expressandstar.com/entertainment/music/2012/03/17/liam-paynes-journey-from-bushbury-to-big-apple/

3. http://www.thespec.com/whatson-story/5269991--humanitarian-liam-payne-urges-one-direction-fans-to-change-the-world/

Although the draft is imperfect, Wikipedia:Editing policy#Wikipedia is a work in progress: perfection is not required.

As an uninvolved editor, I accept this article from Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Would an admin move Draft:Liam Payne to Liam Payne, which is protected? Pinging User:JohnCD and User:MSGJ.

Lead Image

Now that Payne has sadly passed away, I think the lead image should be an image of him during One Direction's prime, as this best represents his legacy and highlights him as a star of the band's peak, which he is best known for. I nominate the 2012 image of Payne in Sydney that is already on the page, just not as the lead image, as it showcases him at the height of his and his band's popularity.
