Highest Rated Segment in Raw History

The "This Is Your Life" segment being the highest rated in the history of Monday Night Raw is a WWE falsehood. The highest-rated segment ever was a title match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker on June 28th, 1999. Reference here, and could also pull from plenty of Wrestling Observer Newsletters if needed. 66.190.209.173 (talk) 23:14, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

in wrestling?

Why has the 'in wrestling' section been removed? Many people refer to this section a lot.

AM Woody (talk) 17:56, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

We had a discussion in the wikiproject talk page. The decision was to remove the section. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 17:06, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Rampage was not critically received

Under "Acting career", it states that Rampage was well received but critics. This should be removed since the reference ([257]) used only states that the film was announced and makes no mention of its critical reception. It also wasn't exactly critically received (see Rampage_(2018_film)#Critical_response). Ewanb72 (talk) 00:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Images + Disputed accuracy of WWE's claim of him being their first "third-generation" wrestler

I don't want to be ungrateful for all the great images here but does anyone else feel like maybe there are too many in this article? There seems to be at least one per section header and that seems a little too much to me. I know they're all free but on the other hand, they may be distracted a little from the text.★Trekker (talk) 11:13, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Also, while WWF hyped Johnson up as their first third-generation wrestler that isn't actually accurate historically. For example, Fit Finlay had a match for WWF in 1989 and the Rougeau brothers were in WWF before. I feel like maybe this should be noted somewhere.★Trekker (talk) 11:21, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Well, I like pictures. About the third-generation wrestler, we can include a note about it. "Besides being promoted as the first blabla, some third-generation wrestlers like blabla" --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 22:00, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
A note would be great.★Trekker (talk) 10:57, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
About the pictures, I saw the article twice. Maybe the only one I would remove it's the RVD taunt. The other is key points (WM matches, Rock with the title) or have a good text (his charisma creates merchandising). The RVD one... says nothing to me. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 12:32, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree with that fully.★Trekker (talk) 13:15, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
There's a difference between family history and company history. The Rock is WWE's first because all three generations worked for some version of WWE. Besides, the Rougeau line goes back to an uncle that wrestled elsewhere, not a grandfather. Unless some source notes this supposed contradiction, we have no business putting it forward. InedibleHulk (talk) 18:12, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Something is from an uncle or another has nothing to do with if one is considered a generational wrestler.★Trekker (talk) 20:54, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
That's probably debatable. But Uncle Eddie ever working for a McMahon isn't. Or is it? InedibleHulk (talk) 05:56, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

In the synopsis at the top of the page, the University of Miami was somehow changed to the University of Mumbai.

Change the University of Mumbai to the University of Miami.

"Johnson was a college football player for the University of Mumbai, with whom he won a national championship in 1991. He initially aspired for a professional career in football and entered the 1995 NFL Draft but went undrafted. Johnson then signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) but was cut from the team in the middle of his first season there. Shortly after, he began training as a professional wrestler.[12]" Os2man4 (talk) 11:59, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Major Important Notice about this Person

To all editors, it is not necessary to use his wrestling name to identify him for any form of media work - TV program, Movie, or Video Game - as his actual name is most suitable. Anyone wishing to know his wrestling name can do so by clicking on the Wiki-link of his name within articles in which he has involvement in. GUtt01 (talk) 14:35, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Holy crap, that is important! But you ever try clicking a Wikilink to an article from inside that article? Goes nowhere. And have you stopped to consider how video game characters aren't played by the person who plays the character on non-interactive programs? They're played by the players, who pretend they're in the game and actually winning a legitimate competition. And they kind of are. But even if the guy who picked The Rock loses repeatedly because his buttons don't work, it doesn't concern Dwayne Johnson at all. Strange, but true. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:29, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Height

When are we gonna downgrade his height? Do people seriously think he's 6'5? He was shorter than Joe Manganiello, Chris Hemsworth, Vince Vaugn, Charles Barkley, Michael Strahan, David Hasselhoff. He was barely taller than Barack Obama too i think we should list him at 6'2. This is the equivalent of listing a 5'9 guy at 6'0. Friedchicken59145 (talk) 10:39, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

That's billed height. The kayfabe height, sourced from industry specific sources. Why are you worried about that? Kane, for example, is obviously not 7 ft, since he is shorter than Big Show. But kayfabe is kayfabe adn both are listed as 7 foot. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:50, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Dwayne Johnson's height information

I changed Johnson's height from 6'5" to 6'3". 6'5" is definitely a wrong information although it is written on several WWE websites or on his official website. 6'5" is a lie! I found pics here where he stands beside David Hasselhoff whome's height is stated as 6'4" and Johnson looks definitely almost two inches shorter than Hasselhoff. You can also check out celebheights.com for more informations about Johnson's height. I changed Johnson's height to 6'3" on it's main article. Please do not change it back to 6'5". I repeat, 6'5" is definitely a wrong height information for Dwayne Johnson. Dr. Samuel Hayden (talk) 12:18, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Party Affiliation

Can this part of the article just be removed? It doesn't even seem relevant for an actor's page, and it's confusing. Independent (2017-present) and Republican just (formerly)? And I don't even know how accurate him being formerly registered as a Republican is. I know there's been rumors of him running for office but that's not enough to warrant needing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:480:4000:79b0:c882:89bf:9f6e:ce26 (talk) 09:00, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

He holds both American and Canadian citizenship. – Archer1234 (talk) 01:53, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
I just reverted this same deletion, weird. But this came up years ago, so not that shocking. Neither is the bombshell that some Canadians are born abroad. Some go on to lead perfectly normal and not at all unnecessary lives, some grow up to become the first WWE Hall of Famer to win the popular vote down south. If this has anything to do with that, don't worry. Being a Canadian in no way makes a people person any less of a native American, brother! I mean, provided one parent gives birth to such a candidate across the US border.
His article says his mom handled that end of his deal, and his dad took care of the rest, so no harm in summarizing both sides of the whole happy accident in the lead. Unless Canadians and the mere notion of their existence displeases you on an irrational primal emotional level, of course.
I can see how it might burn like hell in that case. I still haven't accepted Bush X as a British brand and steadfastly refuse to drop the "X". It sucks, but that's life, eh? Such a jagged little pill. Swallow it down, wait until the dust settles and just be glad you don't have to deal with a Puerto Rican Canadian who promises to spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool in 2024 (Carlito's way would be too ironic, doncha think?) Anyway, Kane is Spanish and his entrance band is from London, but you don't see his fans (or "Kaneanites") complaining recurrently. Wonder why not. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:17, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Verbal diarrhea aside, sources indicate he's Canadian. No sources say he isn't Canadian. So per WP:RS, we reflect the majority view, regardless of whether a minority doesn't like it (per WP:IDONTLIKEIT). InedibleHulk (talk) 18:17, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

There is a link listing him as a Naturalized citizen of Canada. This is untrue. He acquired citizenship by descent. Capitalising "the"

@TaerkastUA:: It doesn't matter whether sources capitalise the/The. (In reality, some do and some don't.) We have a policy for this, MOS:NICKNAMETHE, which says: A leading "the" is not capitalized in a nickname, pseudonym, or other alias.

We just had a big RfC about an identical debate at The Weeknd because an editor refused to accept the policy. It ended with 10 to 1 in favour of lowercase. It would be great if we could just skip doing that here. If you disagree with the policy, that's fair, but you need to go and start a discussion about the policy instead of arguing on this page. Popcornfud (talk) 10:56, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

A lowercase "the" is absurd in this context, where the subject is so widely and apparently The Rock. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:00, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
InedibleHulk, it isn't though. The Guardian uses lowercase, so does Rolling Stone, so does the New York Times. And on top of MOS:NICKNAMETHE, we have another relevant policy, WP:MOSCAPS, which says to uppercase "the" only when "virtually all reliable sources consistently" capitalise it, and they don't in this case.
As with the Beatles etc, it just comes down to the style guide/preference of the source. Wikipedia style guidance is not to capitalise "the Rock", sorry. Popcornfud (talk) 00:45, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
The Guardian and Rolling Stone use "The", too. Can't paste, but check out the Related and Topic links on your pages. How do we know your examples aren't typos? InedibleHulk (talk) 00:58, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
You're grasping at straws. Please just read MOS:NICKNAMETHE if you haven't already. Popcornfud (talk) 01:05, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
I'm viewing this in context, and context gives good reason to respectfully ignore that rule. We have precedent coming out of our ears for wrestlers. The Animal, The Ugandan Giant, The Anvil, The Hammer, The Barber, The Butcher, The Disciple. You're making Mr. Johnson look weird in comparison. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:15, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
All those wrestler names should be lowercase too. Popcornfud (talk) 01:22, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Well, they aren't. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:24, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Aren't where? On Wikipedia? So what? That just means someone hasn't fixed them yet to bring them in line with the Wikipedia MoS. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.
Perhaps you mean they're not lowercase in reliable sources? Putting your names into a random selection of the usual sources that do not capitalise The in names finds lowercase examples for all of them. Popcornfud (talk) 01:27, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
On Wikipedia, for years, in the style of "The Model" Rick Martel. Your idea of fixing is fringe in this topic area, latecomer. But if you want a revolution, you should start at Wikiproject level, no arbitrary wrestler's TP. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:38, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
No idea what any of that means, sorry. Popcornfud (talk) 01:40, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Fast and Furious

Dwayne The Rock Johnson did not enable the Fast and Furious franchise to be a billion dollar franchise. The source that is cited and which is suppose to verify this fact doesn't even mention Dwayne Johnson's name.

The highest grossing film in the Fast and Furious franchise was the 7th film. This was due to it being Paul Walker's last ever film after his death in 2013. Dwayne The Rock Johnson only featured in this film in the beginning and end. He wasn't in it for the most part.

Dwayne Johnson's standalone film Fast and Furious presents Hobbs And Shaw made less than a billion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ismaela38 (talkcontribs)

I'm guessing that you're referring to this sentence in the lead: His role as Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious films, beginning with Fast Five (2011), helped it become one of the highest-grossing film franchises. The source is supporting that the franchise is one of the highest-grossing film franchises. I don't think there's an argument to be made that his role didn't contribute at all to the franchise; per this source, F&F5 made over $625million, compared to the previous movie at $360million. Dual citizenship

I was just wondering why it is that basically every Canadian actor who becomes a dual citizen is referred to as Canadian-American on their Wikipedia pages, but when it comes to American actors like Dwayne Johnson who is also a dual citizen and whos father is a Canadian, they are only referred to as being American in there descriptions. Why the inconsistency in standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Subayerboombastic (talkcontribs) 07:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

the information on the Wikipedia page is incorrect Dwayne The Rock Johnson is not a third generation wrestler he is actually only a second generation wrestler which makes his daughter Simone Johnson a third generation wrestler not a fourth generation wrestler, this is because Dwayne the Rock Johnson's father the Soul Man Rocky Johnson is the first generation wrestler, some people may say well what about Peter Maivia well in reality he does not count in relation to generational wrestlers because he is not biologically related to Dwayne The Rock Johnson this is because he is not the biological father of Mataniufeagaimaleata Fitisemanu (Ata Johnson) her actual biological father was Sione Papali'i Fitisemanu — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.10.144.225 (talkcontribs)

Bold for "the Rock" in lead sentence

MOS:BOLDALTNAMES states:

Only the first occurrence of the title and significant alternative names (which should usually also redirect to the article)[a] are placed in bold:

Notes

  1. ^ "Usually" here can account for cases like "Foo, also known as Bar, Baz, or Quux", where the "Baz" item is actually not a redirect from "Baz", but maybe "Baz (chemistry)", and so it wouldn't fit an absolute redirect requirement, but would be visually confusing if de-boldfaced between the other two. "Usually" isn't blanket license to boldface things for emphasis.

To my reading, this is saying two things:

  • Apply bold to first mention of title and significant alternate names .
  • Significant alternate names should usually be a redirect to the article. Then, the footnote expands on the "usually be a redirect" statement to clarify it.

I don't think that it's saying that a significant alternate name shouldn't be in bold unless it's a redirect. Schazjmd (talk) 14:38, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

It should be bolded. The Rock (wrestler) redirects to this page. Disambiguations count for this purpose as a valid searching term, and satisfy BOLDALTNAMES. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:45, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
My reading is, the example given in the note is when to bold alternative names that aren't redirects, implying if it isn't a redirect and not a similar situation then it shouldn't be bolded. Clarified at the end with "Usually" isn't blanket license to boldface things for emphasis. Lee is right though. I was unaware of the disambiguation. – 2.O.Boxing 15:07, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
I've reverted back to boldface. – 2.O.Boxing 15:09, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

As professional wrestling is 100% entertainment, is it really correct to utilize terms like "won his match", "defeated his opponent". Updating "the Rock" to "The Rock".

Throughout the article, we see "the" on "the Rock" in lowercase but it is part of his title name. Lm20420 (talk) 10:20, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, we are specifically requesting a secondary source (someone independent from the subject) that states that Johnson main-evented the most events in a calendar year. Even then, to be honest with you, it seems like trivia. The definition of "main event" is up for debate, and it's not really a record if no one keeps track of it.
The only bit that might be of note is to say that the Rock was champion during the most profitable year for the company, but even then that seems like a bit of a NPOV viewpoint. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:49, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
“ *Even then* , to be honest with you, it seems like trivia. The definition of "main event" is up for debate, and it's not really a record if no one keeps track of it. “
the semantics on what a main event is are crazy by the way
“ The only bit that might be of note is to say that the Rock was champion during the most profitable year for the company, but *even then* that seems like a bit of a NPOV viewpoint. “
so in other words, even if i did provide secondary sources, it wouldn’t be enough. so why not just say you’re not open to edit man? it sounds like you just don’t want what’s written in his wiki page to change, no matter what is presented to you. it’s ridiculous. who put you people in charge of this site? Lm20420 (talk) 22:59, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
I'm hardly in charge - although as an admin and bureocrat it's perhaps difficult for new users to understand there is no hierarchy on Wikipedia, outside of requirements of tenure to edit certain articles. However, we don't just include any old piece of information just because we want to.
If you did find secondary sources that talked about this, it might be different, but I can't really see how the Rock being on last on a series of house shows makes him (objectively) the biggest WWE draw. Like I say, I don't think unless a lot of sources specifically mention he has a record of some sort for main eventing in a year (not, say looking on cagematch and just taking down the number), then there's not much there. And, him being champion during their highest profits is somewhat encyclopaedic, but business was hot for lots of reasons. Lots of people were champion during that year. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:20, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
he literally has the national record for most 10000+ arenas sold out as a maineventer. most 400+k AND 500+k ppvs headlined. and the highest rated segments on wwe cable tv history (8.4 and 8.3, this is your life and the cage match vs shane). not to mention that they sold a record 120 million in merchandise while he was the face of the company and top merchandise seller of 2000.
how is that not the strongest drawing wrestler of all time? all the business metrics show that he has the best individual numbers. Lm20420 (talk) 03:34, 31 December 2023 (UTC)

First, the provided EW source, while secondary, does not come close to supporting the proposed addition on the front of merchandising (as the source is presented) as it only mentions total WWF merchandise sales not Johnson-specific sales (much less anything approaching a statement in support of him having "peaked" in any of the categories listed in the proposal). Second, the requester now has the permissions needed to edit the article on their own, which they have already done. Third, given that those edits by the requester have been reverted multiple times, this proposal will require consensus here on the talk page before being implemented or having this or another edit request reopened. -- Pinchme123 (talk) 22:01, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
@Lm20420: I can understand why this may seem frustrating, but I assure you that everyone here is not messing with you, but instead is trying to help while also maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. You are approaching this backwards. You have a narrative you want to communicate, and you are trying to backfill it with a variety of sources that don’t actually match the tone and content you are trying to add. I would suggest you shift gears, and instead look at some of the accolades that Johnson has received in the press, and use those to create more neutral content. the following quote is from the above webpage
“the WWF was bringing in $120 million in merchandise sales per year, *thanks solely to Johnson*”
that better? Lm20420 (talk) 07:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
"Thatviralfeed" seems like it wouldn't be a reliable source. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:55, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

are those “unreliable sources” as well? you know, i’d have a lot more respect for you if you just said “we’re not open to stating facts, but rather only non-definitive statements that come from only the mainstream sources of our choosing”.
say that and we’ll call it a day. Lm20420 (talk) 23:14, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
Without any oversight as to whom wrote that piece on Cengage, it's not reliable. If you can find a WP:RS that states a specific statement you want to make, you'll be on the right lines. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 23:23, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Unretirement?

He very clearly just challenged Roman Reigns. Do we wait for the match to be announced to declare he unretired or do it now? Sneakycrown (talk) 01:27, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

While it will most likely lead to a match, there is always the possibility it could lead to nothing. Until we do officially hear something, he should remain retired. im eating cum (talk) 21:55, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Please don't use the phrase "unretired". "Return" is probably fine. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:57, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Section heading

There's a bit an edit-war on a section heading for this article. Originally "Commercial success (2011–2020)", it was changed to "Megastardom (2011–2020)" [2], then to "Stardom (2011–2020)" [3], then "Blockbuster run (2011–2020)" [4] and finally back to "Commercial success (2011–2020)" [5]. It's now been back and forth from the last two a couple of times. Can we please discuss this here to get consensus if this should be changed and to what if there is consensus for the change? Ravensfire (talk) 13:15, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm not a fan of the "Blockbuster" and "Megastardom" section headings that are starting to pop up (mostly in Indian actor / actress articles). The terms are not really neutral and feel more like something I'd see on a personal website or a puff piece on a tabloid-ish site. It's not something I would expect in a professional product as Wikipedia strives to be. At least right now, I'm against changing it to any of the terms that were used. Ravensfire (talk) 13:21, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
I disagree. A blockbuster is a highly successful film. And DJ delivered consecutive blockbusters between 2011 and 2020. Blockbuster run defines this phase of his career perfectly. Your only argument against this is that it doesn't sound professional. It is a fact. I can pull multiple sources from box-office mojo alone to prove this. Parminder Sarwara (talk) 17:02, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
Although commercial success refers to box office success, it doesn't count for the massive scale at which DJ had success in this period. Blockbuster run not only defines success, but very high level of success. Parminder Sarwara (talk) 17:05, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Why not add comedian to what he is too?

He's a straight man, when he's not hitting it hard and getting the girls and winning fights, he's a crowd pleaser who enjoys making others laugh. He often makes funny one-liners and knows how to have a good laugh at it. This is not always the case, on Voyager he was a dangerous and lethal adversary who didn't laugh and wanted to hurt Seven. 2603:9001:A000:6E4:14E:BB24:CD18:FFF8 (talk) 03:10, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
