A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Invitation for Userboxes subcategorization
I've been going through Category:Userboxes and some of its subcategories to move userboxes to a more narrow category, which is one of the tasks of this WikiProject. I've reached an arbitrary milestone: there are no more userboxes sorted under letter A in the category. In this process, I and Ahunt have created a couple of new categories for user templates: about animals, office suites, and photography (full list below).
I invite you to help with organization of userboxes into categories. It is recommended to enable gadget HotCat to make the process faster. Please make sure the template categories go inside <noinclude></noinclude> tags (see WP:CAT#T). Also, there is a glitch where HotCat will break parameter {{{nocat|}}} of Template:Userbox while trying to remove {{nocat}}. —andrybak (talk) 15:07, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Next goal — Category:Interest user templates
All of Category:Userboxes has been categorized. Special thank you to User:Catfurball for helping with this task. Now, the next goal of this task is Category:Interest user templates. —andrybak (talk) 19:15, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- I've also started a discussion for merging of Category:Interest user templates to Category:Userboxes. —andrybak (talk) 19:29, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Userbox colours
@Jamesmiko and Sabbatino: Regarding this discussion at the administrators' incidents noticeboard on sports team user boxes and their accessibility: for NHL teams, the navboxes were modified to use colour borders, in order to meet accessibility concerns. Perhaps this would be a good approach for userboxes as well. isaacl (talk) 04:44, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Isaacl: Which version are you referring to? Examples would make it easier. – Sabbatino (talk) 19:59, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- The current version of NHL team navboxes use colour borders, such as {{Montreal Canadiens}}. Userboxes could, in a similar manner, use the team colours for the borders of the userbox, leaving the text legible. isaacl (talk) 21:46, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Isaacl: I tried that and did not succeed. Perhaps someone who has more knowledge with userbox formatting could help. – Sabbatino (talk) 08:01, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

I think with some other tweaks, this could work. I'm not a fan of process blue as the color for the team name, but I think it works for accessibility. James Miko (talk) 22:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- I'm glad you find my suggested approach amenable! To be frank, examining this recent change you made, if I were looking to put a Rangers userbox on my user page, I'd rather create my own than use that one, as the small 8 point text in thin red letters on a blue background is nearly completely illegible to me. isaacl (talk) 02:21, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Here's an example using the {{box-shadow border}} template that is used by the navboxes.

- @Isaacl: Good catch. That actually follows the design used on the NHL teams' pages, which is good since the pages that are monitored by WP:NHL are pretty much the only sports pages that deal with accessibility issues. – Sabbatino (talk) 06:22, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I mentioned in my first post. It's been discussed at the baseball WikiProject, but no consensus has been reached to modify its associated navboxes, tables, and so forth. isaacl (talk) 07:07, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Isaacl: I doubt any of the projects related to specific team sports are interested. While there is some sort of agreement on ice hockey userboxes, the opposite is with basketball userboxes. Basketball userboxes should also use the same format as basketball navboxes (this is what I had implememted into the NBA userboxes until the other editor decided to treat Wikipedia as a battleground). – Sabbatino (talk) 06:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Isaacl: Seeing that it is almost a week since last message, I assume there is consensus for the NHL userboxes? In addition, Jamesmiko has been blocked indefinitely for continuing his edit warring with other users. – Sabbatino (talk) 07:54, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say a consensus; nothing has been done to attract the attention of other potentially interested editors. (Though it does seem that Jamesmiko was agreeable to using colour borders.) My out-of-the-blue guess is that there is an indifference, since no one is compelled to use these specific user boxes: they can always just create their own if they prefer. isaacl (talk) 17:17, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
